I joined Monzo in August for 'day-to-day spending' but when it came for me to activate my physical Monzo card, it prompted me to activate it on the app I have, but my card never arrived so I e-mailed Monzo:
Dear Monzo
I am typing up this e-mail to ensure that I have signed up and joined Monzo, I typed up my address in, but after waiting until the end of August, my card never arrived and I have the app and I can't activate my card, there's no way on the app that I can get in contact, so I had to type up this e-mail.
I wanted to use my Monzo card for day-to-day spending, but with my card refusing to turn up, is getting ridiculous. I can't add another optional address line on your app and there's no way for me to do this.
And then they replied:
Hi James 👋
Thanks for getting in touch!
I understand that you're enquiring about your card.
Please send a selfie of you either:
Holding up your ID
OR
Holding up a piece of paper with today's date on it
We need to see both your face and your ID or piece of paper in the same image
We'll never ask for your PIN, long card number or 3 digits from the back of your card, so keep them secret – even from us! Please find below an example photo:

Then I sent them a photo on the attachment via Windows Camera as I have a webcam, and then this is the message I recieved:
Thank you for submitting your selfie and ID.
The photo you sent of your ID was too blurry, so we couldn't verify your account 🔍
Please can you submit another attempt?

First of all, it has good lighting there's no flash on my webcam and they keep asking me for documents so I held up my passport as a form of ID.
And this is the reply I got:

I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but we need you to kindly resend your selfie as need to see both you and your ID in the selfie.
The one you've provided is invalid and cannot be accepted unfortunately, which I do apologize for.
Kindly resend your selfie holding up your ID and make sure it's clear and readable so I can verify your identity and assist you further.

And then this is the final straw for Monzo that I have e-mailed them back again that I want my account closed becuase I can't deal with those heartless clowns ever again. All I asked that my card didn't arrive, and they didn't listen to my question, then they replied 'Verify this, verify that' this is why I do not trust those heartless clowns at Monzo.
I hope they need to stop doing all this 'selfie' nonsense as this fad has died down a few years ago. Revolut is better than Monzo and I use it for recurring payments for both Netflix and Disney Plus and also eBay funds.
Do not join Monzo.
