Hello,
Yes I have and I would suggest severe caution if using this company! I hired car on 3rd July pickup Rhodos airport through online site - Vehicle Rent part of the Carjet group - who passed the booking to Monza. The agreed cost was 148 euros for the 2 week rental and included basic insurance however when I arrived they then wanted me to take their own full insurance - another 280 euros. I said no thank you because the "extra" insurance was twice the price of the original advertised car hire cost and with more than 40 years experience of hiring rental cars I have never had the need to claim. At this point the young man's demeanour changed - I could see he was not happy. He then offered me a lower price of 200 euros and when I refused this too he asked me what a "good " insurance price would be but he wasn't happy with my suggestion. After this he went into great detail about how I would have to leave a 900 euro deposit locked on my credit card which would be fully refunded within 30 days if the car was returned undamaged but then he started to employ scare tactics telling me that unless I took their extra insurance, I would be charged 300+ euros for each and every scratch, dent that was found upon return if it had not already been noted. I still refused so we all went outside to examine the car and, as usual, my wife and I looked closely photographing anything we saw on the bodywork/ wheels and the man marking it on his sheet. When we returned to complete the paperwork we noticed on the counter a sign which said " no photos/ videos allowed within the building" which we found slightly strange but the probable reason became apparent when we returned the car 2 weeks later. When we returned the car the same young man came outside to look for any additional damage. He and I looked around the car and he found nothing that was not already on his paperwork THEN he walked back around to the front of the car, put his hand UNDER the bumper - an area only visable if you were lying on the ground looking up - and gleefully announced that he had found damage and we would be charged. Having now read other reviews of Monza car hire it is obvious that this is a technique often used by them to demand extra payment from customers who do not succumb to their demands to take extra insurance with employees making a beeline for the underside of the car to " discover" unnoted sign of damage. My suggestion would be to photograph or video this area as well to prevent this scam happening to you. Back inside the building my wife showed pictures of the front of the car to him that she had taken but this mark was on the underside of the car and hidden from view. We asked to speak to a manager at which point an older man, balding and with glasses came across and because we were not happy said they would check the previous hire records and IF the damage had been noted then we would not have to pay but we honestly felt by this time that it was not going to show anything since any reputable and efficient company would have updated their records immediatly. My wife went outside into the car park area where the car was still parked and whilst there took a photo at which point the older man went ballistic, hitting the counter, screaming outside to her that she was not allowed to take photos as he could possibly be seen and therefore identified and this was not allowed- totally bizarre! She explained that she had not been in the building but outside in a public area however to calm the situation in front of him she deleted the photo but he was still hysterical shouting that the contract was not with her but with me and feeling uncomfortable in his aggressive presence she left and went outside. At this point the older man stated that no record had been found of previous damage so - suprise suprise- I was going to have to pay but he also said that - because they had my credit card details - they could basically keep my whole deposit if they wanted to because I had signed the rental document and given my details and if I continued to dispute the police would be called. If you read other negative reviews you will see that this too is a common theme - " we will call the police and you will miss your flight home!". In the end we had no option but to pay but will be contacting our credit card company and will be spreading the word as far and wide as we possibly can to warn other about the unscrupulous tactics that Monza Rhodes employ.
