“I loved 100% of my order”

Martha M.
2/11/22

I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a haul of ModCloth items. I've been thinking about ordering form this company since 2011 but was always scared. I ordered 12 things: two pairs of shoes, 2 skirts, 1 dress, 3 sweatshirts, and 4 blouses. I ordered it on 2/3 and got my order today, 2/9, so shipping was incredibly fast. Because of my excitement I started reading some reviews and was nervous bc of the horrible reviews that were left on here. I spent a lot of money on my order so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not sure what people are buying or why their shipping is so slow but my things came super fast. Then of course I started trying everything on and everything fit like a glove and was beautiful high quality material. I'm not sure what everyone else is talking about but my experience was very positive. I will be ordering again. I'm so excited for my new things! I love them.

“Poor shipping status and customer service”

Crystal W.
2/23/24

I have ordered a few items before from Modcloth and shipping status has never been great which is why I gave them two stars. I recently purchased two dresses on Feb 2 for a wedding on March 16, so I thought plenty of time. Modcloth's standard shipping is ground economy which means the shipping status is not going to be great, but after 18 days of not seeing the shipping status change and no notice from the company, I reached out to Modcloth customer service. Their response was "We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay in shipping and any missed messages during checkout. Our warehouse is currently undergoing a move, which has resulted in temporary shipping delays. However, we have been advised that shipping will resume by approximately 02/29/2024." No where did their website indicate there was a possible shipping delay so the customer could decide to order or not (some folks may not have a deadline). I asked for expedited shipping and received this response "Due to our warehouse moving, we are currently not offering expedited shipping. We are also unable to make any changes to an order after it's been submitted." While shipping on 2/29 would still get the dress to me in 7-14 days (if the shipping estimate date is correct and nothing occurs with the carrier), that is too close to the date I need the dress and I would not have had a chance to try it in time to exchange. I requested a refund, and I am not sure I will use this site again when there are many clothing options out there

They do have some cute stuff, at a hefty price tag. I prefer "Unique Vintage" myself. That being said I have ordered from Modcloth before. The sizing range is all over the place. Even looking at sizing guide and taking my own measurements with a ribbon measure I can never seem to get the size right. It's like one thing will fit then the next is way off. Also I recently ordered two dresses during their cyber Monday/Black Friday sales. It said they shipped out a few weeks later, then a few days after that one of the dresses was refunded and is now sold out. Absolutely ridiculous. The other dress is stuck some place several days late and has no updated date for delivery. I just don't think they should take my order, hold my money for weeks then go oops this is actually not available.

Hi, Sydney. I'm very sorry for any disappointment regarding your recent experiences. In terms of size and fit, we know that our products can vary, since we receive items from many different brands. Please rest assured that we're always working to improve sizing with our own internal teams, as well as our external partners. If you ever need assistance with finding the right fit, our ModStylists (https://bit.ly/3sToArh) will be glad to help. I also apologize for the oversale within your recent order. This can happen during bigger sales, such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, when stock is turning over very quickly. Sometimes, the site does not catch up to our physical inventory right away, and there aren't as many of an item available as are showing on the site. I understand this is frustrating - please know that this is not intentional, and something we're always working to improve upon. I do hope you received your other item, but if not, please reach out to our Customer Care team (https://bit.ly/3EOyTzw), and they'll be glad to assist.

I gave them a 4 star review for a jacket I really liked because it had a hole in the pocket and receive an email saying they won't post my review because it's unsatisfactory.

I really like many of their clothes, but they are over priced for what the quality. I just recently bought a few sale iteams and I wore the bathing suit once in a hot tun for about an hour and bam! Tore in the cleveage area. It is particularly annoying because I cannot return or exchange a status it is a sale item. I like the patterns styles and such, but the quality just isn't worth the risk for me.

I want to start this review by saying I've never had a problem with any ModCloth products once they have arrived- however, that's were the good news ends. I've been shopping with ModCloth for years now and every year the shipping gets worse. It never delivers on time so if you ever need an item for an exact day I'd add at least a day or two to the estimated delivery (once it actually gets out of processing hell that is). This time they didn't even bother to bring my package to the office or my apartment. I'm lucky that I have kind neighbors that took the time to come find me otherwise after 9 days I still would be wondering what in the world was going on and fighting with customer service. I know that a lot of this has to do with the carrier provider selected for deliveries but this is truly disappointing from how things were run 5 years ago. Still plan to continue shopping here but I do hope that something is done about the shipping process eventually.

Otherwise the products are still cute and unique and overall fairly good quality with a few outliers.

Hi, there. Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. I sincerely apologize for any shipping inconvenience! When it comes to processing orders, we do try to be as speedy as possible, but in times of sales we sometimes experience a delay, due to high volumes of orders. Please rest assured that we are always working to improve to avoid any future delays! I'm also sorry to hear that your packages tend to take longer than expected to be delivered after they have shipped. I will certainly share your feedback about this with the appropriate teams!

Yet again inflated prices for double digit sizes and sub-par quality. I will say that the styles and options at Mod put them above other plus size online retainers

I have purchased MANY items from Modcloth - most are quite overpriced, so I shop there almost exclusively during sales. Or sometimes I'm willing to pay the higher prices depending on the uniqueness of the clothing, since they do have a lot of items with really fun patterns and styles. For the most part, each time I have had an issue with them, everything has been resolved very quickly. However, I am a little disappointed in the quality at times. Also, more recently, I had a return for about 150$ worth of merch in my car which was stolen when my car was broken into. I reached out to Modcloth shortly after the memorial day sale I missed, hoping for a coupon promo code or something so I could place another order, and explained the situation of how my return package was stolen. I figured I had nothing to lose by asking, and while I didn't necessarily expect them to just hand over a coupon, I've been a customer for about a decade... they could have at least replied. I found this quite rude to just ignore me after I have bought so much from them, and it's definitely making me think twice about ordering again.

I love looking at the Modcloth website on a regular basis because I think the clothes, shoes, and accessories they have available are always super duper cute. But the clothes and shoes are way too expensive and I could never justify spending $65 on a sweater or $100+ on a non-formal dress. The accessories are always super cute, unique, and affordable though.

I purchased a huge wool coat and a few other items. I only bought the coat bc I saw that they offer free returns. When the items came, the coat was HUGE. It is not at all what I expected. In the box was a fedex return label. I called customer service bc where I live, there is no fedex drop off aside from drop boxes, and this is a HUGE box. She said that within 24 hours the warehouse would be emailing me a usps label. It never came. Two days later, after emailing to say never receiveced, someone emailed me the "label" only when I opened their attachment, it just took me to their website about how to return via fedex. So now it appears that I am going to have to pay over 20 to send back this item due to their apparently being unable to provide a return label that I can use. It is a shame because they have some really cute clothes. I was hoping this would be a long-term relationship, but that cannot happen now. Had I known I would have to pay the large shipping price for the coat, I would never have taken the chance. I emailed the csr back and said that the attachment didn't work, but I am very doubtful that I will ever get my usps label from Modcloth. So unless my item will fit in a fedex drop box, I cannot order there again. Not worth the additional expense and all the trouble.

Hi, Jennifer. I apologize for any inconvenience! I hope that you were able to get in touch with our Customer Care team to receive that label. We are always able to provide free USPS return labels, if FedEx is not an option, so it sounds like there may have been some technical difficulties here. In any case, please know that I have shared your feedback with the appropriate teams.

I have several pieces from ModCloth - I love the quality and style of all their designs and ordering and payment was sleek and smooth. Unfortunately, my Bank here in Malaysia has experienced a lot of Credit Card fraud with this Company and they have now blocked all transactions with ModCloth. I now need to get special authority each time I wish to make a purchase. This has certainly taken the fun out of online shopping for me. However, I will still follow this Company and their lovely selection of styles and dresses. The dresses are totally worth the hassle - it's just not as easy as it was before.

ModCloth is great when you first discover it. They have a huge selection of clothing and accessories and almost everything looks really cute.

Then you start ordering. I'm basing my review on MULTIPLE transactions and not just one purchase. It's important to really look at images online to get an idea of what fabric is like. Colors online are often misleading and very different in person. Most of the items are quite overpriced, especially when the item arrives and the fabric is disappointingly cheap. I have no problem paying more for a dress if the quality is better.

I've also been burned in the sense that after ordering an item, I did some research into the brand and was able to discover it cheaper at another retailer. Since then, I've always tried to find an item I want cheaper at another site and most of the time I do. (Sometimes the mark-up can be as much as $20).

It's not all bad though. I've gotten a few dresses that I was very happy with, but they were all pretty pricey. There's pretty much no one website where you can find this great selection of vintage and vintage-inspired styles. I think the great thing about Mod is that they have things for many price-points.

As another side note, I ordered many items with the free "savvy saver" shipping and shipping took about a week. I then ordered another item with the $8.00 standard ground shipping and that package arrived literally one day earlier. It's not worth it at all to pay for shipping if you're not in a rush.

Customer service has always been a breeze and I've never had a problem returning anything. Returns are always prompt and they don't take a long time to return funds to your account. It usually only takes 2-3 days after they receive it. I called customer service once and the CSR was really nice and helpful.

I don't want to completely discourage people from shopping with ModCloth because I've found a couple really great dresses, but you need to be smart about it and do research to avoid big disappointments.

I found a dress that I absolutely loved on ModCloth. $190. Looked up the actual designer of the dress, 50 British Pounds (~$66). Free shipping from the other store even, arrived in 6 days!

I suggest looking up the designers you find on ModCloth and determine if the "convenience" of this site is worth the difference in price.

Hi, Nataliia. I apologize for those unexpected fees! I know that customs costs can be an inconvenience. Please know that we are currently working on a solution to make the shopping and customs experience better for our International customers, so hopefully that will be improved shortly! I know that at the moment, the site is closed to the EU, due to GDPR, but please know we're hoping to have it re-opened soon, so that you can start shopping again, with ease!

I genuinely love the clothing design of this company, BUT every single item I've purchased has SHRUNK, either by huge or not so huge amounts (although still noticeably). Even after washing the items on delicate and in cold water, they still shrunk. Which is very maddening since they are not cheap! The one tunic I ordered was a flannel type with sleeves that were supposed to button to keep them held up, well one arm was missing the hole for the button!

We ordered a party dress on sale for a special event using the measurement recommendations on the website. We were excited and I didn't mind paying extra shipping to get the dress early. Unfortunately, when it came it was too large. I called to see if we could exchange it and NO, we could not even do that because it was a 'final sale'... returns I understand, but exchanges? Really?

I have been waiting for my order and thought I'd check the tracking. Couldn't find it. Couldn't find my order whether I was logged in or not by the order number. Started a chat (took forever to get a response. That's ok, they're busy, I guess) he finally found my order but it had not even begun to ship yet. Was hoping to wear the bell-bottom jeans to my upcoming high school reunion but that doesn't look like it will happen. The guy says it is shipping today so we shall see. I hope the item actually gets here and isn't junk like so many here have said. I'll check back in later to tell you how it turns out.

Hi, Willie. I apologize for the wait with your previous order! I do hope that you received the package, and in plenty of time for your event. Packages typically only take a couple of business days to leave our facility, but during heavy sale or promo periods, that can take a bit longer. I'd like to start off saying I was a long time modcloth shopper! I started shopping there around 2008 and I made some very memorable purchases with them graduation dresses, to my wedding dress. I shopped at modcloth 3-4 times a year, usually for a piece for an event. This year I placed an order for a red dress and was severely disappointed with the quality of the garmet for 60.00 it felt more or less like a Fast fashion dress. It came wrinkled! I was surprised how different it apparead from the photo.
I had an order for a jacket not too long before the dress and again the item was around 70.00 and looked really cheap. The prices seem to rise and the quality does not.
I don't think I'll be ordering again, and if I do it will be at a way discounted price on eBay!

Wish I could give 2.5. It's not that they're terrible, because even that would be something. They're just really inconsistent. I ordered 2 items... one looked and fit exactly as I was led to believe from the site; beautiful dress, no complaints whatsoever. The other piece had ratty hems with threads unravelling and hanging off, the color was not the same shade as what was displayed on the site and it was the only red option so it's not like I inadvertently messed up the order. Just not the quality or even the color that I was sold on and the fit wasn't right either.

The same goes with the customer service; one interaction, smooth and friendly. The next time, I got some hateful beast from hell who acted like I was the biggest jerk ever for bothering her.

The clothes are beautiful but I wouldn't order again; I don't feel like the products or service have a consistent standard. Buyer beware.

First off, I love, love, love the clothes. They are quirky, unique, and really fun. My problem is with customer service. I exchanged an item for a different size. Later, when it became obvious that the item was not available in that size I reached out trying to get the exchange funds converted to store credit (they give you an extra $5 for store credit instead of a refund). I emailed them twice telling them to please convert the exchange, both times I got canned responses. It was obvious that the customer service rep didnt even read my questions. Ha! This is the first time I have run into any problems with them. If another time should happen I will stop shopping here.

I used to love shopping at Modcloth, the customer service department was so giving and helpful. I ordered so much from them because of this. Now since they changed their policy, i don't like them anymore. I do order from them every once in a while, but not as often as I did in the past. They used to offer free returns was one of the features that I miss. If i forgot an item in the past on my order, they used to send the item free of charge. These days? No way. So many little things they stopped doing that made a difference.

I've been shopping since 2011. Over the years I've spent thousands of dollars. I made it a ritual to check the website almost daily (Swoon and Noon and Nine!) because they would always have such delightful, fun, interesting and appealing items every day.

Since the merger especially, but even before that, the quality and experience has definitely gone down hill. I'm not going to complain about something I ordered not fitting me right. That's just what happens when you shop online. Quality of clothing varies and fit can also vary widely. That's not ModCloth's fault.

But the quality of the overall shopping experience as a whole has declined: $70 for dresses that used to cost like $50 (I'm looking at you Coach Tour), daily updates feature like 6 products instead of the dozen or so we used to get, and the updates now are just... so drab and uninspired and depressing and uninteresting. It boggles the mind. ModCloth used to be FRESH! And Unique! And I feel like the clothing they select now is not as cute, interesting, or unique as it once was.

They've also started slowly discontinuing long-time favorites like the Charter School Cardigan, Coach Tour dresses, Soda Shop dresses, etc. They discontinued home items which were so much fun and if they carried bedspreads in larger than Queen I might have actually bought some.

Now it's easier and more exciting for me to just get the names of the brands they order from and go directly to the designer to get stuff whenever I can. I can usually find additional cute and exciting items right from the designer rather than waiting weeks to get excited about anything ModCloth shows up on their New Arrivals.

Customer service remains a positive experience for me. I've had a lot of assistance over the years and everyone has been super.

What used to be my go-to clothing store, where I exclusively bought ALL of my entire wardrobe, is now just a disappointing, sad mainstream store with an uninspired and disjointed product catalog. There are still some really adorable unique gems on the site, but finding them now is fewer and farther between. Less money spent on the ridiculous photoshoots and more money invested in buyers might be a good idea.

In the past, I had been satisfied with both the quality of products and the customer service I had received from Modcloth. It is lovely to be able to buy unique and vintage clothing which I couldn't otherwise find in shops which were not online.
This said, the last couple of times I have shopped with Modcloth, I have been quite disappointed with my experience.
I had ordered a pair of simple, cream coloured shoes from the site and once they arrived I noticed they were marked, and the soles were scuffed. Clearly not new as advertised! However, I was quite pleased with the service I had received on this occasion as the customer care team sent me a new pair free of charge, and I didn't even have to send the other pair back.
My most recent experience has seriously put doubts to the Modcloth name in my mind, at least. I jumped at the opportunity of a free shipping order to Australia, ordering big because usually it's so expensive to ship down here. Unfortunately, and not Modcloth's fault, the package has gone missing in the mail system here and it's unlikely I will receive this order. Again, not Modcloth's fault and they have launched an investigation with Australia Post. So when I contacted customer care to see what I could do from here, I asked the team member to resend the items of the order which were still in stock and refund the rest to the credit card I had used for the order. She misunderstood me and just refunded the whole order to store credit. This is not what I asked for! So when I contacted her again, she told me there was nothing she could do and I'd just have to use the store credit.
Know the package going missing wasn't their fault, but the customer service team could be a bit more attentive to what is being asked of them.
Having been dissatisfied with Modcloth on two occasions now, rethinking investing there any time soon. Shame though, the clothes are really quirky and unique. But in the end, probably better to shop where you know the service staff can actually help you and the items are new.

I've been a ModCloth customer for years. I love their selection, and they have a fair amount of promotions. However, their returns have gotten much, much slowerit takes 3-4 weeks for me to receive my refund once I ship something back, and I don't even receive a confirmation email from them that they've received my shipment. Their CX agents are very friendly, their live chat is great, and their marketing emails are some of the best in the bizhowever, the overpriced, inconsistent-quality clothes and slow shipping and returns makes me think twice about shopping here.

It was my very first order frm this website. I got the Shipment notice the very next day I placed my order. And while waiting I started reading reviews from other websites including here. When I read abt their shipment delay I was really concerned. But I got my order on time, infact I placed the order on a saturday and the clothes were delivered on Thursday.
Abt the quality, it was ok. I feel the price I payed was huge. Shops like Macy's may sell tht for the price I payed. Well, the most imp thing was the size. Even though the website said, true to size I felt the dress I bought was very large. So I called customer service and told the same. They asked me to go for a quick exchange If I wish to buy a smaller size. So its like they placed a new order for a size smaller and for the original dress I had to return back for a full refund. The new dress arrived this Monday which I felt was a very quick shipment, considering the fact that they did not even charge for my shipment.
I believe other bitter experiences mentioned here, are mainly coz they might not have the items ordered instock.
But, will i recommend this to others? Probably now, mainly because I felt items are too costly. Also people who are fit conscious should gamble here.
P: S The new dress arrived was also not that great fit for me. And it was a size 'S'. Cant go lower than tht.:)
Hope this helps

Canadians beware!
Most products will cost you extra duties and shipping upon delivery Calculate 18% duties + 15% tax +10$ to be payed upon delivery if you choose regular shipping. This is on top of the american shipping you paid at checkout.
That being said, the products i received were very nice and came in good shape. I recommend this if you don't mind paying a lot of extra fees.
