Seller Review - Good Concept, good result, some comments with recommendations for improvement
September 2, 2022

The MaxSold concept makes a lot of sense and can provide an efficient way of disposing of a wide variety of content without having to move it. The staff was good and those in the lead on site made good suggestions and were pleasant to deal with. On some items, we made out much better than expected, on others we got less or no bids. This is not surprising for a no reserve auction. As more people learn about this platform, the situation should continue to improve. Overall things balanced out and the take home total made it well worthwhile. Due to the large size of our estate auction, the MaxSold managed option $800 flat fee was worth it. For a small quantity of items, I would probably recommend the Seller managed option. Preparing in advance and having the items accessible / layed out really helps. Our auction was large and the pick up day required the coordination of the pick up of over 380 lots. It was a busy day, there were a few no shows, which is largely unavoidable and two lots that were only partially picked up. One of those was due to an honest misunderstanding and we arranged an opportunity for the buyer to return later but there was no logical explanation for the other occurrence, which should have been obvious to both the MaxSold employee accompanying the buyer and the buyer himself. Overall, the pick up was well organized and executed considering the level of activity and there was no house damage.
Some overall comments and recommendations for improvement:
1. Very few employees on site seemed to have visible identification or name tags.
Recommendation: All employees should have name tags. This is simple enough to action and would make it much easier for the seller when coordinating with the dispatcher as well as to provide feedback.
2. The biggest problem we had was that one of the bidders who had bought several items did not pay, apparently their credit card was declined. This resulted in a series of lots left over, therefore having to be disposed of by other means and a loss of revenue while those that were outbid by this person could have paid and taken the items.
Recommendation: If someone's card is declined as the auction closes, the item should immediately go to the next highest bidder. Instead, two full days went by, and the pick up day was initiated with an apparent hope that the person whose card was declined would respond and get the issue addressed on this third day. It was not until late in the day that this strategy was finally abandoned and the next highest bidders were contacted and asked if they were interested and available to pick up the items. This worked for some items, although it extended what was already a long day. However, several other items were left over. This likely could have been avoided if immediate action had been taken at the auction close. No clear logic or explanation was provided as to why things happened this way. If someone from MaxSold responds and wants me to contact them, I can provide more specifics.
3. The final auction statement which summarizes all the lots, prices, commissions and amount due is a good document. However, it indicated that there was a partial refund given to a bidder because of a "partial lot missing". To put in context, there was only one such occurrence on 380+ lots so that is good but the matter was never brought up to us.
Recommendation: The amount involved was small but the financial implication of any refund is 70% on the seller and only 30% on MaxSold. As such, this type of issue should be brought to the seller's attention ideally during the pick up or as soon as it is discovered with an explanation of the situation.
4. During the pick up day, a MaxSold employee asked if they could simply take some of the lots that did not receive any bids with them when they leave at the end of the day. They asked more than once during the day. This seemed odd as the thought had been to offer the no bid lots to buyers of other lots as opposed to employees.
Recommendation: This probably should not happen as it makes it seem as if some employees are there with the objective of getting free stuff. If this is sanctioned by MaxSold, recommend employees be instructed to wait until the end of the day to ask or preferably until the seller asks if anyone working wants the items left over. Otherwise it puts the seller in an awkward position. I reported this to dispatch but if someone from MaxSold responds to this comment and wants me to contact them, I can provide added specifics.
5. The head office advertised speed (i. E. number of days) at which the process can be executed after the first phone call is likely overly optimistic most of the time. In our case, once the task was passed from head office to the local MaxSold unit, the realities of scheduling and staff availability set in and flexibility on both sides was needed to get this done.
Recommendation: Head Office should have a better view of the level of activity of local units in the region applicable to the Seller and provide a more realistic timeline based on the actual/current situation on the ground as opposed to the ideal scenario that likely assumes that a team will be available instantaneously.

Horrible customer service! Would not purchase anything!
July 3, 2022

I purchased $100's of dollars of auction items thru this company. Upon picking up at my first auction site I tripped on the sidewalk that went from cement to brick. An ambulance called, I went to a trauma unit was admitted to ICU with a brain bleed, a broken nose and multiple face lacerations. I was told by the ladies at the auction site pickup not to worry about other site pickups they would let them know what happened and I wouldn't be picking up on the specified pickup day. I was in ICU for 3 days before being transferred to a regular room then being discharged. When able to finally call, due to not having a phone in ICU, all I was told is we are working on it you will get a call or email. No call or email so I call called back when out of ICU. Tranferred 3 times, finally a very arrogant entitled sounding man told me Yeah I seen you called read what happened, they are working on it. I finally get an email from Supervisor Ben. Telling me they emailed me 2 days after the accident and I didn't respond. Hello! I was in ICU, wasn't sitting on the phone waiting on ur email! So I finally get contact info and get home. None of the sellers were made aware of the situation. I've made arrangements with one seller, but one that I paid $107.40 to for items told me she donated everything I purchased, I asked for a refund and got a very rude response stating it is Maxsolds issue not hers. Take it up with them with a smiley face. Maxsold says not their issue they don't speak to sellers. So MaxSold lied they never spoke to sellers even though I was injured at one of their pickup locations. Not just a bloody nose. Too bad it's not going too work out, and I feel bad that You deal with sellers that would be so broke they resell out from under someone that has already paid them for those items. I would not deal with a company that just doesn't care about someone's health and well being and doesn't go the extra mile to make sure items that were paid for are either picked up and put in a general location when something like this happens, or at least informs the seller. They take ur money from ur acct as soon as the auction closes, all about the money. I was told by Ben ( a manager) they "normally" don't speak to sellers. I asked so this is what you consider a "normal" situation? Poor Ben, you need to send him to management school, not something to say to someone that was injured at one [f your pickup sites. I want my $107.40 back. Figure out who needs to pay it and get it back into my account you have my information.

Probably wouldn't buy from a Maxsold auction again. Go through a reputable local company
September 29, 2021

Maxsold is the bargain basement of online auction sites. Sort of the Redfin of online aucitons. You seem to get a software framework but no real knowledgeable workers to help. I bought a serger (a type of sewing machine) from a Maxsold auction. When I went to the house to pick up the serger there were several Maxsold employees, but they didn't know anything about the auction items; all they could do was direct traffic & pickup times. I asked if the user manual was with the machine & a Maxsold worker glibly told me I would find the manual online. I told her the manual was not online. Someone from the family took me upstairs to a very dusty, jam packed room & I found the serger hadn't even been moved or unplugged. The accessories were nowhere in site although they were probably in that room somewhere. I left with the serger & a sewing box full of old sewing items including the bobbins for another sewing machine in the room. A reputable local estate sale company would have worked with the owner to clean up the house a little and the employees would have been smart enough to find the manuals & accessories & group them with the proper machines. I felt sorry for the family member because he was having to field so many questions & sorry for myself because I'm going to have to buy some accessories for the machine to make it fully functional & those accessories will cost me just as much as I paid for the machine. Not much of a deal! Also, for people looking to sell with Maxsold, their photos are just terrible and the auction lots are not always logical. This is a real turn off for buyers. Sure, you might find a treasure others have missed. But if you're looking for furniture or appliances, dark photos are not helpful. Also not described was the condition of the house. It was smoky smelling and dusty. I've never been to a sale where the house was in that sad of condition. The seller was definitely making as much money as he would have with a good estate sale company and he had a very big cleanup job after the sale was over. Maxsold software also didn't work when I tried to schedule my pickup time. I mentioned it to one of their employees & was told that it's a Canadian company. As if the country makes a difference in programming quality! Just avoid them if possible.

Tip for consumers:

This is not like other online estate sale sites you have used. It has poor photos & will not clearly tell you the condition of items. Since it is one-time sellers & not an estate sale company, the sellers are not worried about their reputation.

Products used:

Kept the serger I bought but will have to buy additional parts to make it fully functional.

CATCH AND BAIT ROUTINE.
June 21, 2021

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, IT'S UP TO YOU. The first thing that should be a RED flag is you will not speak or its near impossible to reach a live customer support agent to assist you. Second "Please dont fall for the " Its better than your belongings going into a landfill jargon! BE Aware every sales item or large group of items starts at $1. Meaning if you have a precious item you dont want to perhaps be sold for a $1. Don't put it in your sale. Especially any Gold coins, jewelry, Sterling Silver or precious stones. If you care to gamble, go to Las Vegas. It is not weighed or tested in any way before the sale. I cant say that quality goods don't sell well because that would not be true. But it is an extreme gamble.
You will be expected to set up all of your sale belongings. Once you have done a tremendous amount of work putting like minded items together, Maxsold has the final say on the quantity of items in a lot. So sometimes 6 lamps will be sold at once. Resellers love that. If its a great quality stained glass lamp or high grade item they will probably sell it alone. Yay!
If your home is not set up on par with Maxsolds needs to proceed, you will be told a "SET UP FEE" is required at $100 per person, per hour to accomplish this. So if you have not set up properly and gotten everything out of boxes, this can cost you most likely $200-$600 extra depending on how much you have to set up. The in home Maxsold associates receive absolutely none of that additional money they charge. So the incentive to do a great job by the associates is NULLIFIED. The video tutorials that are supposed to guide you are extremely vague. If you decide to continue the process, associates will, measure, numerically tag and inconsistently and sometimes poorly photograph your precious items while at your home. Some associates do a good job while others just dont care. Many times the descriptions are done by an off premise group of people that will write rudimentary descriptions. They are not there to actually see the items live so the photographs provided by the in house team are paramount to the description being well written, but what they write is mostly basic at best. The photos are sometimes blurred, poorly lit and out of orientation. Many times these imperfections are not corrected and obviously hinders the value of the sales items and over all profit of the sale. They make money on both the seller and the buyer. 30% plus fees for commissions from the seller and 15% from the buyer. They dont care how much an item sells for because they are making money either way. They certainly dont care about the finished product of a catalog. They are so ridiculously busy and understaffed they don't care. Sure they want a profitable sale, who wouldnt. Sometimes a catalog does come out great. Many times repeat buyers and resellers are there week after week to scoop up your items and resell them at huge profits. Keep in mind that picking up, storing and moving items is a huge task, time consuming and costly, so buying items cheap for a turnaround is what resellers are looking for. When they are coming back week after week, you know that they are doing well reselling your stuff. Maxsold preys on timing. Many times sellers are pressed for time and find there is no choice. Ebay is tedious and local market place sales like Facebook are difficult. Here is the big kicker. When possibly everything of good value sells, and some will sell well if the market place warrants that, even with the massive saturation that is going on, what does not sell will be up to you to get rid of at a massive expense. Most of the time even if you make a profit selling your items you will have the profits go down the tube by having to get a dumpster or junk haulers to take the unsold merchandise away. Most of the time its furniture. If you are able you can load it and bring it to your town refuse dump for a fee. But most of the time the sellers are elderly people without any way to do that. If your goal is to clear the house for a sale and you dont care about profits and supplemental people having to fulfill your goal, then this could work for you. From a buyers standpoint many times you are purchasing items that are broken and you cant get a refund as seen in many, many reviews here. They get around that by saying "untested" in the descriptions. Now you're stuck with a paper weight. Oh, by the way any damage that happens to your home during removal of items is on your homeowners insurance policy. They cover NOTHING. I could literally go on for pages. Please consider other alternatives first. I will never say that the Maxsold process will not work. But you need to have zero expectations. If you can have that in your mind and digest that, its all up hill. I wish you all peace of mind, fairness and most of all good health.

EXCELLENT Service and Process! 10 stars out of 5!
March 30, 2021

Hello Patti - first my apologies for this review being later than I planned. Some unexpected family business came up and has delayed many things that I had planned to do earlier. This is a review and recommendation of the team that was responsible for our Account.

The team on both days (initial review and pricing and the second was the final delivery of the merchandise to the buyers) was lead by Kim Athenson and included Ann Foley Collins, Theresa Napolitano, Ann Marie Sullivan. Steve Smith was a member of the initial team. I cannot say enough about their work, attitude, and how they never stopped from the moment they came to the house until they left. They were friendly, all very nice, and obviously had a system.

After walking through the house with me and my husband to review what was going (or not), Kim reviewed the "Plan" with them... who was going to go to which room, view of the process (numbering system etc) and they went to work. OCCASIONALLY one of them would ask a question and then move on. NO idle chatter, they worked non-stop. They brought their lunches and ate while working... they took all of their belongings with them on leaving - lunch wrappers, paper cups and all.

We were really impressed with how they grouped the items for sale and with their writeups (which needed almost no corrections when we received the draft, later THAT NIGHT!

We left the house after they arrived on the day of distribution, but when we arrived home later that afternoon, Kim was there with a full description of how things went (only about 2 or 3 people didn't show to pick up their purchases). It was an amazing process and the people who we were lucky enough to have assigned to us were I am sure part of the reason it went so well. They are true professionals and we had NO hesitation about leaving them in our home when we were not there.

I would NOT hesitate to use MaxSold again, have RAVED about it to all who asked how it went, and hope that we get the same crew in the future should we have another need for the service. We will NEVER go any other way to downsize etc in the future. MaxSold is IT!

Please thank Kim and crew again for us... it was a wonderful experience and they made it so! Margie and Frank Mosher. 53 Robbins Road, Walpole, MA

Keep in mind the auction business (in general) is risky for both buyers and sellers
March 22, 2021

I have purchased several lots from Maxsold. Overall, I've been very happy. I appreciate that they start all auctions at $1 dollar. I also like that if there's a sniper bidding last minute, the bidding is automatically extended. It will continue to extend for every bid done last minute. This is something I wish other auction sites had. Sellers, these low starting bids draw more buyers. If this is not something you agree with, look for another way to sell your items.

FYI Sellers are charged 30% of the sale price and buyers are charged an additional 15% of the sale price.

As far as auctions go, they are risky for both parties. Do your research to see if the "auction" business is for you. No sense complaining after the fact. This type of auction is not for people trying to get top dollar for their items. This type of service is for sellers that are in a pinch and need to clear a house asap.

Sellers, keep in mind that buyers can't preview and inspect your items. So this can be risky. Buyers, keep in mind that you are bidding on items that are often "not tested" "uninspected" and are sold "as is".

For sellers managing your own auctions, you would get much more for your items if you highlight flaws and take pics of any damage to your items. Test and list your items as "tested and works". Take pics of hallmarks, give the history and add as much detail as possible. For example, if you have a piece of furniture that has drawers and the inside of the drawers has stains, mention it. Or include a pic of the stains. Buyers don't want surprises like this. Not knowing will bring lower bids. Remember, more pics, better descriptions and total honesty brings higher bids. This way bidders are bidding more confidently instead of imagining the worst. Regarding furniture, look online and see what things are selling for and if it's unacceptable, don't list it. Furniture is hard to move. It often requires renting trucks and helpers.

Sellers hiring Maxsold to do all the work, leave notes with special items BEFORE they come and take photos. Example: Take pics of the bottom of this item, this item works perfectly, this item should be highlighted, this item is an original, etc... Anything that would get YOU to increase YOUR bid, they need to know. If you've ever watched antique roadshow you know people love provenance. Help them increase your bottom line.

PS: Sellers or buyers that think your max bid is somehow viewed and exploited, I can attest that I have won the majority of my items less than my max bid amount. I can't comment on sellers bidding on their own items. But I can say that if they did and won their own items, they would end up paying 30% on the sellers end and 15% on the buyers end. That means that 45% of that sale price will go to Maxsold. So you better really want to keep it.

Improvements Maxsold could do is adding a feature where you can zoom in on pics like on ebay & amazon. Take better pics, take more pics and give better descriptions so buyers are more comfortable bidding or increasing their bids. This was the 1 star ding.

I love the auction world so I will continue buying on Maxsold!

Awful, abusive customer service
February 14, 2021

I have been a regular Maxsold customer for years. Maxsold is an online auction site which allows bidders to bid online for items photographed and described on their website.

I recently bid on and purchased an item which was nothing like its description. It was listed as "antique burred wood". When obtained, it was clearly not wood but some veneer applied to some cheap substance. If you had seen this thing at a garage sale, you might have been generous to pay $5 for it. Instead, I competed with a number of other buyers who all must have read the description as I did, and I barely got the item for $340 after outcompeting other bidders. You can see from the photo I attached below, that if it really had looked like that, then it would have been a beautiful piece. But it wasn't an "antique burr walnut endtable". It was a $5 dollar item with veneer pasted on some substance. And the veneer wasn't even glued on all that well.

My husband picked it up for me, so I didn't see it till he got home (and he wasn't the one who bid). When I saw how shoddy it was and how it clearly was veneer stuck on something, and not actual wood, I immediately wrote to Maxsold and asked for a refund. Keep in mind that I have been a VERY loyal client, and spent well in excess of $10,000 on the site, as well as having a sale of my own. AND I have never asked for a refund since starting on Maxsold maybe more than 6 years ago.

I received a highly abusive and threatening email that basically said that if I wanted a full refund, they would give it to me but ban me from the site for violating their terms and conditions (because the item was removed from the site and I didn't register a complaint until after I saw it at home). Note that they made this threat after reviewing my file, so (a) they were well aware that I was a regular and very good client and (b) that despite spending well in excess of $10,000 at their site, I have never before asked for a refund. Note also that they violated their own manifesto which says that they will carefully describe items, and describe them "as we would want them described if we were buying or selling them".) Alternatively, they could provide me with a 40% refund and not ban me from the site.

I should also mention that in the sale I did through Maxsold, one item was an oriental carpet. The person who purchased it was given a full refund after they complained about the quality, and no, the complaint didn't get made on the premises because I was on the premises that whole day, assisting with the sale. So the first email I got about my purchase, which said that they wouldn't even entertain a refund because they never refund an item once it has been removed from the premises, was a lie since it had happened in my own sale. Once I called them on the lie, then I got the abusive and threatening email.

I am unbelievably insulted by their threats. I get that all items are used and "as is", but with COVID, we have no choice but to rely even more heavily on the description of the items at the Maxsold website. Moreover, I expect that as an excellent repeat customer, I will be treated with dignity and respect. To instead receive an email that suggests I am trying to pull a fast one, and steal something, is degrading and uncalled for, given my track record with this company.

I am so very sorry for having recommended this option to all my friends and family members.

This is no way to treat a loyal customer. And news alert: If you're willing to dump a customer who comes back year after year, recommends your company to others and spends more than $10,000, over a dispute over $300 - maybe you'd better rethink your customer service strategy.

Tip for consumers:

Buyer beware. Obviously they don't care all that much about proper descriptions of items which can only be viewed online, so you can see how a client can be scammed if Maxsold can't be bothered to to their best to provide an accurate description.

Products used:

It is an online auction site, so there are all kinds of items.

Disappointed & Insulted!
November 29, 2020

Samantha,

I would recommend & endorse your company wholeheartedly except for a couple of things which I'll get to later.
With some of the things you said & especially didn't say in our email correspondence,
I became skeptical & leery about your operation of the auction process.

Your staff was excellent!
They were friendly, polite, professional, knowledgeable, well informed and thorough.
Both at the front end & back.
I had no problem with them whatsoever.

Where I had the problem was with your auction process!
I was totally disenchanted with it.
It was almost as if you were working for the bidders/buyers & not the sellers who are paying your bills!
It seemed like I had no say in the process at all!
And that's not how it should be!

1 - There is absolutely no reason or any excuse that you can come up with to justify a starting bid of one dollar ($1.00) on all items/lots!
Especially the big ticket items!
This is 2020 not 1920!
People will wait to the last minute to try & steal an item for your one dollar ($1.00) staring bid.
You're doing a disservice to your company & especially a disservice to the sellers!
I was insulted!

If I go to a live auction, each item has their own starting bid, depending on size, category & potential value.
You can take any lot you guys put together, if you use pennies on the dollar as your cost,
You can come up with a bottom line value of around ten dollars ($10.00) +/-.
Kitchen cupboards with 200 - 300 items, as an example, big ticket items, etc. would fetch that easily.
A staring bid of $10 will not break the bank for the bidders/buyers and will appease the sellers!
Starting bid should be up to the sellers discretion!
If they want to start at $5.00 or $20.00 or whatever, that should be a choice between both parties with the sellers having the last say!
And your company makes more money this way.
You need to give the sellers more say in this area!
We know we won't get top dollar, but we'd like to come out with something that isn't insulting!

2 - Fact: The penny was decommissioned/phased out in 2013. Why are you letting your bidders bid in penny ($. 01) increments?
It doesn't make sense?
I found that insulting!
It's a disservice to your company & especially a disservice to the sellers!
Bids should be in one dollar increments ($1.00) until you reach the end of your first phase or however you work it.
After all, we'd like to make a little money but not that little!
That just baffled me!

3 - You need to put in a fail safe price for items to protect the sellers.
To have a dining room table & six chairs sell for $6.00 or two bedroom sets sell for under $20.00 to one buyer or a $1,000.00 reclining chair sell for $8.00 is ridiculous!
I could have sold them myself & gotten a couple hundred dollars for each one.
If you had a higher starting bid it wouldn't be as much of a blow but at one dollar ($1.00), it's an insult!
I had no recourse in taking it off the sale.
One of the bedroom suites was my Mother's and if there was a fail safe price I would have been able to take it off the sale & keep it instead of it selling for under $20.00!
If I had a fail safe price in place, where the total bid price didn't reach my price, ie: $75.00 for each set, I should be given an option of taking it back.
If the price where the total bid price did reach my price, ie: $75.00 + for each set, I would forego the option and the pieces would sell to the highest bidder.
That choice should be mine.
There might be some items with sentimental value that I would want to take back if a reasonable price was not attained!

4 – Because people where bidding at the last minute for your minimum one dollar ($1.00) bid a number of big ticket items were gone. That is totally unfair to the seller.
Not to mention insulting!
When items are placed on my front grass and taken pictures of, to sell on Kijiji for probably 50 – 100 times their purchase price on the same day, you're not doing the sellers any favours at all!
It gives one the impression that your company could be receiving some sort of kick backs from buyers for keeping prices low?
If I wanted to give items away, I wouldn't have hired you guys!

You need to revamp your auction process & make it more seller friendly!
It benefits your company & the people who hire you.
If you were to change & revamp your process to incorporate the above suggestions, I would fully endorse your company.
The way things are now, my skepticism & gut feeling were warranted and spot on!
If someone were to ask me about MaxSold, I would tell them to be careful and explain all of your shortcomings.

Because of my health situation and time constraints, I couldn't shop around like I normally do.
Otherwise I probably would have gone & used someone else!

As a Clearing house:
I was happy that you were able to move most of my items out.

As a Auction house:
The Sellers have to be involved more.
You need to revamp your process, as per above.
You need to make sure the Sellers get Fair Value for their products.
I wasn't too thrilled that you took almost 50% of the take.
I was totally disappointed with your process and the fact that you practically gave away most of my items for next to nothing!

So as you can see, I was disappointed & insulted with your auction process.

Negative reviews are scams
October 2, 2020

I'm saddened people need to slam companies like MaxSold in order to get more business for their own company. I'm a MaxSold buyer & praise MaxSold for their professionalism! I've never bought from a company that cares so much about clients. For example,
BEFORE BIDDING/ASKING QUESTIONS/LOOKING FOR ANSWERS:
MaxSold answers client questions via email within a 24 hr period, in an easy to read/understand, professional tone. At the end of the email, the client has the option to (1) click on a link provided at the bottom of the email to complete a survey regarding the email exchange/answer satisfaction/experience with MaxSold. The survey also includes an open-ended question on how MaxSold can do better to improve the email process, or (2) not click on the link/complete the survey.
BIDDING:
There are descriptions for every auction item/group of items. Some descriptions are more detailed than others (corrective feedback for MaxSold: BETTER ITEM DESCRIPTIONS PLEASE!). However, pictures are included & that helps determine if the item(s) is(are) worth bidding on. MaxSold is careful describing an item's current functionality including if it: (1) works/has been tested or not; (2) is heavy/needs multiple people to lift/carry, &/or (3) has scratches/dents/marks/stains/missing parts/etc. (coupled with pictures showing the damage). In this manner, the bidder knows EXACTLY what s/he is bidding on.
YOU WON THE AUCTION!
MaxSold:
1. Handles all the details perfectly including (1) maps/directions to the auctioneer's house to pick up the winning items, (2) easy/quick check-in, pick up, check out, (3) friendly/helpful workers to guide you through to get the items, & (4) as stated earlier, this review is from the bidder's perspective. I've never been a seller. However, if I found myself to be one, I would DEFINATELY use MaxSold!
2. Explains in many places throughout the website and its documents "To check all items before leaving the auction site to make sure everything is as it should." This affords the winner to bring problems, broken items, items not as described, etc. to the attention of the MaxSold workers.
3. Workers are professional, nice, patient, articulate, organized, prepared, trained/proficient experts. It's a pleasure having on/off-topic conversations while picking up items.
4. Makes sure everyone is safe during COVID-19. From mask-wearing requirements to social distancing to dedicated item pick-up times, everything & everyone is coordinated/planned and works together like a fine oiled piece of machinery.

Honestly, anyone giving MaxSold poor marks either caught them on a bad day or are vindictive individuals who are cutting off their nose to spite their face. MaxSold asks people for input and is using people's feedback to make positive changes to the company. They just started a V. I. P. Program which includes newsletters (articles on auctioneering, what to look for in antiques, etc.), surveys, and games to play for points=trade in points for swag. There is a community/bloggers/question boards for people interested in auctions (buying/selling). I trust them as a buyer. Win an item and see for yourself. Good luck and happy bidding!

Shady business
November 25, 2019

A few times I picked up items that were damaged (not advertised as such) without asking for refund because I had travelled over 2 hours by public transit.
Recently, I went to pick up a coat that I felt was fake so I told the seller I don't want it and asked for a refund. Twice before I had picked up coats from this very seller that did not describe the condition as having any damage even though they did. Since I thought those previous times that the items were at least genuine I picked them up.
This time I was adamant that I did not want to pick up. This is regarding the store now operating from 181 Cocksfield in North York, Toronto. This guy who called himself Edwin started making it kind of personal by repeating "I know fur. This is real fur." He had no shame about the fact that I had picked up coats from him that were damaged. Yet, he wanted to make a big deal of this rather than retain a repeat customer! It looked like he was making it about his ego and getting very unprofessional. As he started lying, his claim about "real fur" got more dubious.
I was telling him I don't want it since it's made in Korea and he kept saying "I know fur." Hoe does he know this? He is not even a furrier! I bet they make up titles with names of some animal. These items are not checked by furriers.
I said to him I know Maxsold has a policy and he just said, "We are not Maxsold. This is a store. We just advertise on Maxsold." Imagine that! I told him I paid Maxsold. I bought this off of Maxsold. So he started getting more flustered and angry. He just kept repeating "I know fur" in response to everything I said so I just said to "Ok, but I don't want $#*! from Korea."
At this point he could more angry and told me I was giving him attitude and that he will get me a refund but have me banned from Maxsold and started walking me to the door. Now, I said I don't care I just want my refund. As I was standing outside in freezing cold I remembered to ask for a receipt that I did not pick up the coat. He said very sternly No, I will not give you a receipt and he even did not want to give me his full name. So I came back inside (no aggressive, physical anything at this point) and I just called Maxsold and customer service at this point was nice enough to email me a receipt of item left at store for refund. Edwin had called in the owner and was lying to him that I said the F-word. I told him he was a liar and told customer service that this person is lying I said the F-word, and telling me he will get me banned from Maxsold. Then I heard Edwin muttering "As if I have the power to that." He said (changing his words) that he just wanted to get me banned from that store.
Two other customers walked in and at this point my phone call with customer service was still going on and Edwin still kept chiming in, while owner was clearly on his side. So I said yes, your other customers should also know what kind me business you are running here. The owner just started shoving me. I told him this is assault. Why are you pushing me! So he created the excuse that I am tresspassing! Imagine you have paid for an item that they are claiming they will refund you while refusing to provide a receipt and I am the one trespassing because I am asking for a receipt? These people have my money! They are not giving it back and want me to leave the store even without giving me the coat and I am tresspassing? I am in the wrong? I told the owner he has no right to touch me! "I was just getting my receipt. The store is his property but my body is my body and he has no right to touch me!"
After I left and came home I wrote a complaint to Maxsold support telling them there are no cameras in these stores and the selling is blatantly lying that I said the f-word to exaggerate and escalate the situation. Then the owner is getting physical using the excuse that I am the one trespassing while they refuse to provide me with a receipt. I also wrote that I am starting to wonder if these stores are safe spaces at all. I also wrote that the customer service rep was witness to the sounds at the point when the owner started shoving me.
What was Maxsold's response. This was literally a reply to the complaint email I sent to Maxsold. It seems to be a generic message saying basically that due to numerous complaints against you, we are banning you from Maxsold. This is what you get for raising the concern that your stores maybe unsafe spaces because there are no surveillance cameras on site. Instead of replying, this highly unprofessional business reacts by clicking somewhere with a generic response to ban me. What does it mean when I am complaining that your stores seem to be unsafe places. Does it look like I will go to these stores again?
The response, just like Edwin's reaction and his whole attitude looks like a matter of trying to save face!
I am literally complaining that I don't feel safe going to your stores, as in I will not go to them again, and the response is to ban me!
I had also written in the email that I have lived in China for three years (solo travelled to South Korea and so many countries in Asia) and this has never happened to me anywhere! I got assaulted in Toronto!
To make it worse, I was coming back on a bus and two guys started verbally fighting. A third guy goes up to one of them and shows him a knife to tell him to stop fighting. Is that my fault too? This is all happening in Toronto? Why? Because the authorities don't do anything. I will be reporting this incident to the police since Maxsold is so highly unprofessional and shady. This kind of business should not be allowed to operate here. There is no knowing if this Edwin is even legal in Canada. At most jobs nowadays you have to give a criminal background check (even when working for uber)but of course with this business, I woulf say not!
