Great customer service with prompt responses to any questions I had. The GFRP bar supplied is very good quality. Pleasure to desk with
I tried reducing the number of emails. Then I tried unsubscribing entirely -- several times. Then I tried emailing customer service -- several times. I am STILL getting daily emails. Spam is illegal, Madewell.

First time I ordered a pair of shoes, they arrived and they didn't fit. Madewell said I needed to place a new order to get a new size, they were out of stock and couldn't help. Okay, crummy luck… but oh well. A month later I ordered 3 pairs of pants, when they arrived I received 2 pairs of jeans that I did not order. When I contacted customer service they said I had to place a new order. But guess what, the items I originally ordered are now out of stock for the next 4-5 months! Madewell did nothing to compensate for the inconvenience and instead gave me label and told me to return the items they wrongly sent. I get mistakes happen, but honestly not worth the hassle shopping here.
Bought this shirt at after season sale last summer. Consequently didn't wear it until this summer. Wore once- button broke. I sewed an extra they had included (( hate sewing). Wore the adorable comfortable shirt. This time 4 buttons broke. I called Madewell they don't consider this defective. They did credit 50% refund but still, for less than 4 wearings? It's defective. Beware of Madewell buttons!
Returns are a huge pain with this company. Lots of hoops to jump through just to get a refund or a different size.
I really don't understand why they try to make us feel better by making the jeans like 2 sizes bigger than the marked size? I don't want to have to use the size guide and then get a completely different size. Just make the jeans the normal actual size as marked! Like cool I'm super glad that they have extended sizing and all but when I order an xs short I don't expect them to be like size 30... And the size 25 jeans were 28 inches around. How is that a 25? WHAT IS GOING ON?
I really like the style and quality of Madewell clothing, however my most recent purchase was sold out after I purchased it. I found out two days after my online purchase. This wouldn't be such a big deal but this is the FOURTH time in a row this has happened (all different items) and they send me the same verbatim, generic, scripted response every time and do nothing to make it right. I do not have this issue with any other company. This is a terrible way to run a business. I will not be wasting any more time with Madewell in the future.
Ordered a pair of slippers on 11/20 for a Christmas gift. They don't fit so I tried to initiate a return. They have a hard and fast 30 day return policy. This is the only company I know of that doesn't lift their 30 day return policy for the holidays. I even called the customer service line thinking they would surely lift the policy for a holiday order - but no. I will not buy from Madewell again.
I purchased several items from Madewell. One was a long sleeve the dye shirt. I had this top for about two months and I noticed several small holes in the stomach area. I also ordered several t-shirts some are muscle shirts. I had the same exact thing to happen after several months small holes started to appear near the abdomen area. The t-shirts also faded easily. I always wash my clothes according to the tag and hang them to dry.
Free returns are a joke. Supposedly 30 days but it starts when they mail it out and must be received back in their computer system by the end of 40 days. They told me it can take 2 weeks once you send it back to be received! My return always seemed to be processed 2-3 days after the 40 day window. Nearest store is 2 hrs away. I'm done shopping there- will choose the stores with good customer service.
I'm an easy going person, and asked a very valid question with their chat team. I was brushed off and then was the equivalent of hung up on. I accidentally checked out as a guest, as opposed to my insider account. Which means I lost all the insider points made on that purchase. The chat assistant basically said too bad, there's nothing we can do, nothing to help you feel taken care of, and left the conversation. I was still talking. I'm sure this happens to people a lot. I'm sure the company could choose to fix this kink in their network. They choose not too. They choose to be greedy, uncaring, jerks. It's disappointing. I can live without their clothes. There are so many indie shops doing what they do, only better, anyway.
Tip for consumers:
Just know that if you're unhappy, you'll stay unhappy. They have zero accountability.

Well, I wanted to keep all but one item, but since it's clear how they treat their customers... I'm just going to return it all.
This is a first for me. I have never paid for an item only to have the company cancel it. Very disappointed.
I love Madewell's products and they have awesome sales. They are, however, dishonest with their mail returns. If you return your purchase and it's received within 30 days of the purchase date, you're told you'll receive a FULL refund. When you submit for a free return shipping label, you're even told within the email what date Madewell must receive your return by in order to get a full refund.
I mailed my return and tracked it online. I saw it was received 5 days before the return cut-off. I kept waiting for an email notifying me that they'd received it and were refunding my credit card. TEN days after the online tracker showed they'd received my return, I got an email saying they'd *just* received it and were issuing me store credit with shipping taken out because my return was past the 30 day cut-off.
I called customer service and said I should receive a full return to my credit card. They agreed that Madewell had made a mistake and said I'd receive a full refund to my credit card. The next day I got an email showing I was refunded for the shoes but shipping was taken out. I had to call Madewell a second time and point out this error. The customer service rep agreed that it was an error and separately refunded the return label charge. Point is: if Madewell rips you off, they'll take care of it IF and only if you call their attention to it. But you have to stay on top of it. It's frustrating and dishonest.
Tip for consumers:
Best to purchase and make returns in-store if you live near a Madewell shop.
I'm fed up with Madewell. Their prices are high for what you get. Their processes are broken. For example, they say if your a Madewell insider you get free shipping and returns. But, more often than not, they charge me $7.50 for using the return level. When I ask them about this, they say that it's because I am past the 30 day return window... So, about this 30 day return window; it is not defined anywhere on their website. But when you talk to customer service their definition of 30 days is from the date Madewell ships it to the day they process your return.
Madewell shipped a shirt to me on September 3. It arrived at my house September 14th. I mailed it back September 17th. Madewell processed the return on October 10th (today). So, according to Madewell, I did not meet the 30 day return window so they gave me a gift card. The amount of time it takes for shipping to occur and Madewell to process the return is completely out of my control. I don't know why Madewell (1) has a ridiculously tight 30 day return window (2) processes are setup to be NOT in the customers favor (3) why they define 30 day return the way they do and why they don't communicate clearly with customers.
It's kind of killed Madewell for me... if there's a Madewell purchase to be made, I recommend Nordstrom to buy Madewell instead of Madewell directly. Nordstrom has a much better return policy and knows how to treat their customers, unlike Madewell.
I have always bad experience with this store either I shop offline or online. The employees are always rude and obnoxious. They are not willing to help you at all. They don`t even seem be to be interested in making profits for their store. This places needs changes!
Their contact us page says they are available by chat every day, from 9am to 11:59pm ET and by phone 7am11:59pm ET, seven days a week.
There is no way to access their chat.
And I called them last night and also at 7AM today and was on hold for an hour before I just hung up.
I thought all money spends the same green, could not get any help from any of your sales people, but helped all the Caucasian women that entered the store, very bad for business

Did not know it takes them a week or longer to process the order. So far, not a happy customer.
