“My Opinion on Listia is THUMBS UP It Doesn't Deserve the Bad Rap!”

cindy s.
2/3/23

Listia has lots of bad reviews out there because it says "get stuff free" but some sellers make the BUYER pay shipping (I never charge for shipping). That's not Listia's fault, and you can always use the search filter for "free shipping only". I've been using Listia for years-I joined in 2011 and I still use it constantly today! Listia is an auction site for new or used stuff. As far as "free" goes, people are complaining because ALL sellers don't offer free shipping. I would like to think people understand this, but many don't. Someone must pay, and I don't think Listia deserves a bad rap because of this. But if the seller offers "free shipping", you really do shop for free because you pay for your winnings with credits! If the seller asks you to pay for shipping (which CAN'T be paid for with credits) then you can decide if it's worth it to you or not. There is always the option, too, of using the "FREE SHIPPING" search modifier, which is what I use. I LOVE Listia! I list handmade jewelry, small household or toiletry items, cell phones and other small stuff. In turn, I use the credits I get to bid on old, silver coins, SS jewelry, or craft supplies for my beading. I am more than happy with my time on Listia. When you sell something, you earn CREDITS, then use those credits to bid on stuff you want. Their aim is to keep stuff out of landfills and offer shopping for little money. Also, some sellers can be rude, or untrustworthy, like on any other site. YOU must check their ratings, verification and feedback before you buy! Now, that said you never know what you'll find up for auction! Here's some pointers: 1) List items that are small, lightweight, and cheap to ship. Some of the things I've seen listed that are cheap to ship are silver coins, baseball cards, jewelry, collectibles, clothing, electronics, and more... 2) You need to 'sell' stuff to earn credits. I suggest listing items that don't cost a lot to ship, then offering Free Shipping. Some items that are in high demand and command a lot of credits for you are Postage Stamps SS or Gold jewelry Collectible Coins Baby Clothes Cell Phones or cases Books or DVDs (and you can ask for "media mail" at the PO for a discount!) Gift Cards And much more. 3) Always use tracking numbers when you mail something, by using padded envelopes, so buyers can't say they never received it. If the envelope is still thin, put a little piece of Styrofoam or the like in the envelope so it's thick enough to warrant free tracking. 4) BEFORE you bid on something, read the description thoroughly. If it doesn't say 'free shipping' then you will have to pay it, and there will always be someone trying to make an extra buck by overcharging for shipping (ALSO not Listia's fault!). If the item is broken, not what you thought, empty...Listia will only return your credits if the ad description didn't warn you ahead of time. 5) ALWAYS check a seller's profile before buying. Check to see if they have their verification badges-or at least their phone number badge and Facebook badge (you should check their FB profile, too), negative feedback from buyers...Use caution if someone 1-has no profile picture, 2-just joined and it's their first (or one of the first few) listing. Final Word All sites, especially shopping or auction sites are going to have some issues. They are going to have buyers and sellers who are unscrupulous. Ebay has all of these. So does Bonanza, Tophatter, and many others. But millions of people still use them and love the results. Don't bash it until you've bought and sold just ONE thing. Keep it cheap, see how the site works, THEN make up your mind!

“Listia does not follow their own rules. Counterfeit coin dumping ground!”

Mary H.
7/9/23

Listia used to be very good. Around 2014 they changed everything including points as a medium of trade. These points are very hard to translate to equivalent dollars. That's one problem. However, another problem slowly came to light—Listia has no means to seek review of problems that occur. They have customer service representatives that are either unable or unwilling to provide assistance in enforcing the rules that Listia themselves created. The biggest problem is with the offering of counterfeit coins. Listia allows known offenders to list these forgeries without repercussions. They don't help victims get their money back and only care about keeping the trading going. As a result, the good coin dealers won't do business there. This company should practice what it preaches and enforce their own rules. As of today, this site is known as a place to list forgeries and stolen property. Hopefully my complaint to the IC3 site will get the wheels of justice going. In the meantime don't buy Anything there unless you can afford to lose that money.

Been active on Listia for about 2 months. Already have well over 100 positive reviews - mostly selling but some buying. Haven't had a problem so far *knocks on wood."
Couple of times I had a question for support and within a couple hours, I had well thought out, informative and helpful responses.
Only issue is that I have one buyer that doesn't confirm delivery within a day or two like everyone else. Not that they open disputes or anything, it just locks up your funds until 20 days after payment way made. That's only 1 buyer out of dozens. Seems like they have really tightened things up in a good way since switching back to Points from Ink. Fill out some surveys and it's like free money. Highly recommend giving it a shot.

It was a long boring day and I didn't know what to do in order to shorten that day. I believed that it would be cool to search in the internet for some cool shopping centers. Finally, I found listia which seemed to me pretty interesting, because it offers things for exchange for free. So you cna just give them things which you don't need anymore and then they send you some things which you need. It's okay for those people who always buy something but don't use it. I guess that this service should be paid with attention from people, because it really deserves it.

A lot of you people here leaving whiny reviews are just either lazy, boring or greedy. Listia has some of the most unique items, down to Earth people. I have ever bet! With most things in life you get back what you put into it. Some of you I can tell didn't and you don't know how to be successful and then you cry that it stinks. Listia ROCKS!

So you use credits instead of money and it's an auction site. To make sure you don't get scammed, only bid on auction with 100% next to their name. That means they have no negative feedback. Either way you can read their sellers feedback. And if you read everything, it tells you if that auction has free shipping or not. And you can always apply the filter to show auctions only with free shipping. This site is amazing. As long as you pay attention to what you're doing. I've been with them for about 9 years

I only deal with the gardening part so cant say anything about the other auctions. I do charge shipping but give extra seeds of other varieties and. The only thing i would love to see change is when people dont pay shipping there is some reprecussions. I also dont understand why listia is now taking part of your credits. Ive noticed that people are now charging more points for items. I buy alot of the seeds i sell so anything i get in shipping goes back to listia. I; m never going to get rich from what i charge for shipping but it makes it fun to be able to offer many varietys of seeds. I have only had to file a few disputes and the staff usually finds in my favor. I have gotten seeds that dont grow but that happens on ebay also. It could be my error or old seeds. I have 100 percent feedback and if someone says they didnt get it i do resend at my cost. I did get A NASTYGRAM FROM ONE MODERATOR about a item i posted it was removed but later someone else posted and sold same item. There should be rules that everyone should abide and before a someone gets banned they should get a warning and if they continue to violate then a email should be sent stating why and a way to dispute it. Moderators also should respond faster but all in all i will continue to use listia. Ive had the same experience with ebay except the nastygrams. I thought it was totally un called for since ive always had great reviews on listia. Thanks listia for a great experience and i get a chance to win seeds and have a beautiful flowerbed every year since 2010 when i joined

Thanks for contributing to our garden auctions. We're sorry to hear you receive da "nastygram". If that ever happens, please do submit a support ticket and let us know. As for removal of auctions, we try to be very consistent with all listings and users. Again, if you find that your was removed and someone else's was not, please let us know. I'm a huge fan of Listia, I'm not living in LA LA land, I know some people/auctions are scams! Read everything, ask questions and if you don't feel comfortable don't bid(simple)! I've been on Listia for about 6 months, I have a 100% track record, and plan to keep it! I only list NEW or slightly used items, and only bid on the same, I have had a couple of issues with buyers, but at the end of the day it's not worth it to argue with them, Listia is fun for me and I intended to keep it that way. :)

I've been a member for over four years. The customer service is excellent. When I submit a question or support ticket. I never have to wait over a couple if days. Most questions will be answered the same day if you submit them soon enough. I may not always like what the answer is. But I consider them to be fair. If you want to be successful on listia. Here's what you should do... follow the rules. Offer up clean and useable items. Take good pictures. Give a clear description. Pretend that you are the potential bidder. What would you like to know? Answer any good question. It makes people more confident to bid on your listing. Always send your item. No matter what the final bid is. And ship in a timely manner with good packing and tracking. Be nice, be pleasant. Occasionally, you will get that "problem bidder". It's easy to block them. Keep everything positive. Your ads, your responses, your questions, etc. People will respond to your attitude. Again, always follow the rules! There are more things that I could say. But these are the basics. If you do these things, you will love a Listia too!

I can't get enough of this site. I win stuff on listia and turn around and sell it on ebay! The best part about this site is that you spend credits, not money. You can get credits by doing surveys or giving things away. Many newbies thinl they don't have to send the item... Actually, they won't get any credits until the winner says they recieved it.

Used Listia for a few years and have had no problems. Just be careful to read descriptions and rules of the sellers. Read with your eyes wide-open and look over the sellors reviews. The best way to protect yourself.

I wonder if Listia can be used for making a true profit. Like the guy (not on listia) who traded up from a red paperclip to some crazy substantial profits.

Hi Sharon,

Thanks for your helpful feedback. It definitely is best for users to become familiar with our rules, as well as inform themselves of the item listed by each seller. That way, they get the most out of our site. We're glad to hear you've had a good experience so far and hope it continues.

Sincerely,

I have been a member of Listia for only a few days and I love it! I mainly collect Antique, Gold, Silver and Bronze British and Irish Coins, Gold British Banknotes and Bars no matter what size and shape they are. I have already managed to buy a couple of new additions for my beautiful growing collection and will continue collecting these beautiful items located on Listia. All the purchases I have made were prompt, fast and easy for both me as a buyer and the sellers. Listia is a very awesome site and I hope it stays up for a very long time :). Very cool site. The simple idea that you can get things you want just by getting rid of thing you don't want is amazing in itself. Just like any site it can take a day or 2 to get the feel of how he site works but once you get the ball rolling, everything just falls into place. Very easy to navigate around the site and you can even comment on other members auctions. And the badges make the site so much more fun. Highly recommend the site! -Shelbya09

I have been on Listia for a little over 2 years and I LOVE IT! The two things I agree with, #1 Inflation! It's pretty bad right now. With the additions of selling your points for cash and Listia Plus (I think it's called) the rate is out of whack. Give it a little time and it'll calm down. #2 The "professionals" or greedy a$$ sellers that list items WAYYYYY TO HIGH. It's sad, pathetic & the LAZY way to hustle, but nobody said you need to bid on their items, I just ignore them.

NOW, I'm going to call out all the people that are COMPLETELY WRONG and can't admit that THEY were the problem... Listia has a GREAT staff! When you're having a problem member support steps in. They are SO INCREDIBLY fair! I deal with them on a regular basis. Most of the time its great! Although, I'm not like these other IDIOTS ON HERE, I can admit when I Fu$k up! I have a big mouth and a tendency to tell people about themselves. I've gotten many warnings & suspended messaging, that I DESERVED! Im the perfect member besides running my mouth. 3500+ 100% positive feedback. They don't just punish people for nothing! These morons acted a HUGE fool in someway for their accounts to be banned. Scamming, thieving and/or being complete douchbags. I can promise you, 98% of those people running their mouth are guilty. Listia runs a tight ship, all you have to do is. Act like a decent person & follow the very easy rules and you'll have NO PROBLEMS!

On every auction page there is a "flag as inappropriate" link. If people just complain about fake items that's not much help to support. Hit that "FLAGGED link" and... TA DA It will be removed. Listia is a awesome community. I've made some amazing friends, found a new hobby, gotten TONS of fantastic stuff. This isn't the place to be if you're looking to get rich quick. Listia is a place to have fun, enjoy yourself and escape from the real world for a while. I suggest everyone try it out.

OMGosh-How can anyone whose intelligence quotia is at least part of the overall bell curve pass up an EASY WAY to turn junk into $$$$?
I have honestly flipped hundreds of designer items (most New w tags) that I have won on the site, for serious cash! There is no Thrift store/consignment shop in the universe that carries the amount of items and variety that Listia does... or that gives you the opportunity to swap your stuff right out of your house for credits to get gift cards (just like cash as they can also be flipped and sold).
Im here to tell you... if you haven't figured out yet how to make Listia work for you, and pay your rent... well then you don't deserve to get the goodies! LOL Not that hard to figure out!
Hands down, easiest way to make money and w/No taxation whew hoo!

Listia is a fun, innovative, smart website. As a developer myself I can attest to the HUGE task of creating and maintaining a website of this caliber while imbuing it with positive ambience- and a self regulating credit value system? Kudos developers and to all those that would trash talk Listia based on a less than pleasant user experience or two while completing one of the myriad offers for credits available there I would say: I have experienced a few instances of not being credited when due myself however a complete support system is in place and friendly and functional to boot... I've been asked to provide proofs of completion as well... it seems demeaning in the moment but realize validation of this sort is a necessary evil... if users can scam a system, they will. Simple as not trusting everyone because of the few. And that becomes the baseline, the status quo for what is expected in app functionality in terms of security. Listia is an example of idealized love create it let it fly and let the users' various levels of input define how the system functions; with experience comes knowledge of real and potential pitfalls to the paradigm- the creator's brainchild.
It is a secure platform. I am CNISS MCITP,
Have transacted credit purchases from Listia numerous times, and have never experienced a site security issue. All transactions have been accurate and timely, I have never experienced an unauthorized transaction of any sort. THANKS LISTIA!

Well, let me start by saying this. I had an account with listia that had almost 4000 positive reviews, close to 15 neutrals (cant please everyone), 0 negatives. I was a good seller, helping make listia a trusted website. They blocked my account with nearly 400,000 credits and no telling how many pending. I probably had 700,000 credits in all. This was back when 800 to 1200 credits were equal to a dollar. Now its like 6000-8000 per dollar. Everything was going great. I sold uv movie codes with an occasional electronic here and there. I was redeeming credits for gift cards, games, etc from fellow users. Then one day I noticed they had a rewards store. Then you could use gin to buy items, now it is all normal auctions. I used some of my credits to get a 40 inch tv. Or so I thought, 2 days after redeeming credits on this listia rewards store item they blocked my account. I was pissed. When I purchased items from other sellers everything was ok. Now since I bought from their rewards store my account got blocked. Numerous emails and phone calls but they would not unblock nor give an adequate reason why. I was pissed. Basically I lost around $700 worth of credits with no explanation. This includes the codes I sent as well as the items I sent. At that time I would have left them a -10 feedback. This review would be full of choice words, ranting, grumbles, negativety, etc.! HOWEVER!, 2 months later I decided to give it one more shot. I had opened a tictail store that was not doing well. Actually, only one sale was made and they immediately after purchase disputed the purchase and got a refund. So, I went back to listia remembering the good sales their and the great users they had. Now, 2 years later, everything is going great again. Great users, a better listia team, nearly everything. The inflation went wild a few months back but has calmed down. This is around the time listia changed the rewards store to no gin (get it now), gave more credits per $1 in the buy credits store, start new users with more credits, etc. So again, now it is more like 6000 credits equals $1. The store lists at best 324,000 for $100. But that's not the perceived value. And, later I decided to give the rewards store another shot. This was when gin was still available. All I can say is WOW! I redeemed for a few tvs, game systems, a touchscreen radio for both my car and truck, games, touchscreen acer computer for the house, a very nice surround system for the man cave. I could go on and on. Yes, you will run into an occasional butthole, or a child who just signed up, etc. But here is the key. Listia moderators will always look into every dispute and decide a winner/loser. Sometimes both are winners. At that time both keep the credits. If the buyer does not send you a verified address, do not send your item. Listia is very on point with this. Either the buyer verifies their address or you keep the credits without sending the item. Basically free credits for you. With 99% of what I list, no shipping is required. I send the code through listia messaging. So it does not matter to me about address verification. Do your research. Find some top sellers, I recommend those with 3000 or more positive reviews and ask questions. Most will help. The fasted way to earn credits is to first get verified. That's easy to do. Then list a few small items that are cheap to ship. Build your feedback to I would say at least a positive 10. List a few small gift cards. They earn the most credits and code nothing to send the info out. Then search around, there are a lot of great deals to be had! Now, am I upset about my first listia experience? YES! Due to the fact they blocked my account for I feel no reason. But I also remember all the good as well. BUT!, you know for me to leave listia a 5star review after that, this site has to be really great. IT IS! But it is very important to DO YOUR RESEARCH. Find out as much as you can. Listia considers itself to be a free version of ebay in so many ways. I assume this is for tax purposes. For us, once you learn the ropes, it is more like a trade site. Only you are using your items to trade for credits which can then be traded for other items. Im a sports fan so I relate it to this... the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees want to make a trade. Most of the trade pieces are right. But the Braves need a quality pitcher and the Yankees want to keep all theirs. All other pieces are good. The Braves have a good backup shortstop they are willing to include. The Yankees are set at shortstop. So, here comes the Detroit Tigers who have a stockpile of pitching but needs a shortstop. So now its a 3 team trade with all 3 teams getting what they want/need. Baseball fans understand this. Listia is like the Detroit Tigers in this situation. The trade would not have gotten done without Detroit. Listia is the same way. Would you give me gift cards for movie codes if you are not into movie codes? NO. But if I had credits received from others for my movie codes, would you now give me the gift cards for these credits? YES. Because you can now use those credits for purchases you are into. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Nothing on this site is free, but you can trade whatnots around the house for credits which can be used to purchase different and bigger items or many smaller items. Hope this review helps.
