I've funded Loona, the pet bot and everything happened as expected. Now my 5y daughter has a new robot friend. We are still waiting for the charging dock. The site is very transparent and straight forward.
I supported urban toy lab and they lied stating they didn't use toxic materials yet said shipments were made because it was too toxic🤦 They stopped giving updates, ignored hundreds of comments on their page requesting updates and Kickstarter does absolutely nothing for people supporting these sellers. Kickstarter has made it so easy for any scam to come along, take your money and run. Kickstarter needs to be shut down or they need to do things differently where both parties are protected.
We recently got funded on Kickstarter and couldn't be more pleased with the experience. The Kickstarter staff was incredibly helpful but one star off for lack of instant phone support. Other than that, we successfully launched our company thanks to Kickstarter. The best crowdfunding platform out there imo.
Has loads of interesting projects but be very careful on sending money somewhere - a good thorough research is my advice.
The service is a great idea and is full of outstanding projects people create! But as a rather experienced contributor I strongly recommend to think well before funding anything - expecially lately there are scam issues. Though these people with fake projects are easily detected, as for me.
We had a pleasant experience crowdfunding and Kickstarter was a great partner. They are definitely strict and they asked us to change a few things (totally understandable as they want to protect their community) but setting up was easy, and getting paid afterwards was a breeze. Anytime we had questions they were fairly quick, my only wish is that they had phone support.
Has lots of interesting creative projects. Some of those are too futuristic to me but most of them are worth your attention.
A good idea that works for the most part - I've never had a bad experience, but there does seem to be a lack of protection for when projects do go south.
When people hear the word "crowdfunding", the first thing they think of is Kickstarter. They do a good job screening the submissions in making sure the quality of project on their platform at a higher standard. While there has been users who’s projects are often rejected, they have been very effective overall as they are the clear leader in both artistic and tech projects. They helped my Raytoons project get off the ground.
Tip for consumers:
Make sure to include plenty of videos, pictures, and information about your project. My examples are here: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/raytoons
I was really impressed by a couple of german guys, who managed to fit a solar powered engine into a fidget spinner. The idea amused me so much, that i think, it is worth to be mentioned here. If you like, visit https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/*******/youla-the-brand-new-solar-powered-spinner?
For myself, it is totally worth it, to get a kickstarter account and order some for my family. Enjoy!
Fun site, I have good times betting on random projects however I must admit that a lot of them are BS.
First of all I'm only writing this in response to the other reviews of this site, mainly concerning what people are saying about Diaspora. I am in no way affiliated with kickstarter or diaspora.
I am here to say that if you are wondering about kick starter do not rely on the information that the people above me submitted. If they had even taken the 5 minutes to understand what Diaspora is about they wouldn't be calling it a facebook clone. Diaspora is not like a tradition social networking "site" because you run it on your computers, and it connects to other computers such as a p2p network would. If you can't even take the time to figure that out, then why you're writing reviews on it is absolutely mind boggling to me.
Our band Splitface Legend just launched it's own Kickstarter campaign a few days ago. It's still too early to tell if it will be successful but, we'll be glad to keep you posted.
Here's the link incase you are a fan of Indie-Rock and want to help make our CD a reality. (sorry for the shameless plug)
