I used IRA resources to be the custodian of a self-directed IRA. At first they were OK, during the first couple years. The statements would come regularly at first, then become later and later. They were however, good at charging me their custodial fee. I found out a few years later that what I was investing in had sadly become penny stocks. It made my IRA almost worthless. Never did IRA resources contact me to let me know. They were never around answer questions, don't care about the client, and - as far as I'm concerned - they don't do anything to help administer accounts. Stay far away from this scammy company.

I found this company after looking far and wide for an IRA custodian who can take care of check book IRA account for real estate investment. Talked to the owner and found that they have decent fee, similar format like most others. I have an investment club and lots of members want to invest in real estate using our unique method for higher return. The owner offered me a setup such that i can bring these members to her service. After exchanges of lots of emails, I keep following up with next step (getting an agreement done). After few months of excuses, things went silent. Followed up with another email, none replied. Placed several phone calls, no answers. Now, 9 months passed, I want to put a closure to this. Called her up, 4 times (either back in an hour so call back, then after 2 hrs, she's not in the office). Finally, she called back, oh, we are not the same company, same focus anymore. So, you are not IRA custodian anymore? Yes, we are. But blah blah. Ok, i get it. You dropped the ball so long, you are ashame of living up to your words. So much for blasting Equity Trust as being too big too lousy at customer service at IRA. Stay away and don't get fooled by their low fees.
Tip for consumers:
Ask them for documents of their service, they might not be able to deliver. But do insist that they'll send it to you some customer's review and they'll go away.
