Where do I start…?
Re TRAFFIC SCHOOL ONLINE COURSE
*DO NOT fall for adding additional crap like buying your copy of certificate! Cert will be sent to your court & DMV automatically and you can access your certificate at completion from the 3rd upper toolbar icon that they never mention, plus in email upon completion.
CRITICISMS?!? You mean ASIDE FROM THE GODAWFUL PAINFUL RIDICULOUSLY SLOW TIMERS ON EVERY ONE OF THE NUMEROUS PAGES PER CHAPTER AND NUMEROUS CHAPTERS PER LEVEL (which seem to go on forEVER) THAT TAKE TEN TIMES LONGER TO COUNTDOWN LONG AFTER YOUVE FINISHED READING THE PAGE?!?!? OMFG.
OK, sure:
Priced too high

DID I MENTION THE TIMERS ARE A TORTUROUS DEALBREAKER?
They make it so you are prevented from moving to the next page until they run through to t-minus-zero and lemme tell ya, there are a LOT of pages and every page is a grueling wait. IT SUCKS! I would NOT recommend anyone suffer through this or any online course with timers throughout! There's gotta be some that just let the time run out after completion so you can walk away after the final exam! TAKE ONE OF THOSE. How this recd such accolades is some kind of advertising scam and it bloody well fooled me.
Horrible initial experience on the California IDriveSafely course. I took the course over many days, passed all the section tests, and sat down to take the final. After completing the final I pressed continue and was hit with a test score of 0%, plus I was notified I had taken the final twice and was locked out of the course (you only get two chances to take the final). There was no indication as to why I had failed the exams. I was told I had to retake the entire course and take the final again, and of course I had to pay for the course again. I did not close any windows (that automatically registers as an exam failure). On further examination and after several phone calls I was informed that I couldn't have any other tabs open on my computer (using Google chrome) which I did. Going back through the original material I reread the warning given at the beginning: "closing the window" (my quotes) prior to submitting answers will count as a failed exam. Checking my Google Chrome FAQ I found the definition of closing a window: to close window press the red "x" in the upper right corner. Technically I had never closed a window by Google Chrome standards. I had used this technique throughout the course on the quizzes and had no problems. I, in fact, used the open tabs to google relevant information on the quiz questions, taking the attitude that this was like an open note quiz. I actually learned a lot doing this and felt this was the intent of the program and part of the learning experience of the program. (This was my first experience taking an online traffic school course). Doing this on the final exam, however, constituted "closing the window" so I was given a 0% score. My chief complaint is that I was never notified that I had failed a first attempt on the final. There should have been a fairly big deal made at the point that I failed and why, and I should have been notified that I was now beginning my second and final attempt on the test. There was no such notification. Second, the course is extremely out dated in some parts (airbags were not yet required in all vehicles when parts of this were recorded). The final exam requirement that the window not be closed is also a throwback to when browsers would not support multiple pages open in one window. This warning needs to be updated. As it is now stated, I did not break any rules (I never closed the window at any time during the exam). By the way several of the final exam questions included material that was not even covered in the course. I took detailed notes throughout the course and actually paid attention to the information. THIS PROGRAM IS OUT-DATED AND DESPERATELY NEEDS SOME UPDATING. "Closing the window" needs to be replaced with "minimizing or opening another tab or closing the window" in the warning at the beginning. I was also told verbally there was a 60 minute time limit on the final exam, but that material was not in the initial warning about the final. There was no feedback that I had taken over 60 minutes (don't know if I did or not - no feedback on the exam results page), and there was no timer shown on the screen. THERE NEEDS TO BE A VERY CLEAR SEPARATION BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND ATTEMPTS ON THE FINAL EXAM INCLUDING A VERY CLEAR STATEMENT THAT THE FIRST ATTEMPT WAS A FAILURE (AND WHY), AND THAT THE SECOND ATTEMPT WAS NOW BEING STARTED. I have over 30 years as an educator making and taking tests. The IDriveSafely final exam testing procedure gets an "F" in my opinion. I was told by the supervisor with whom I spoke that they get 4 or 5 complaints such as mine each week. After talking with two different customer service personnel and one supervisor, I was told their hands were tied by the state of California, and that I had to retake the course and pay for the course again. It wasn't until I got to my 2nd and 3rd supervisor (I just kept calling back and getting different folks) that I got a change in my favor. After being told I would receive a call back within 24 hours (yeah, right), I called back 3 days later. This time I was told by the supervisor that I could take the final exam over the phone with him which I did. I passed and was told the results were being electronically sent to the court for proof of passing. I received a certificate yesterday in the mail for the same. A big ordeal that wasn't necessary, but ended with a satisfactory outcome.
After I finished this course I paid extra to have the certificate mailed out the next day. I still had a month before my deadline was up but I wanted to have the certificate on hand.
Fast forward to 4 days before my due date and I have still have not received the certificate. I called the customer service department and ask when the certificate was mailed out. Simple question should have been a simple answer. The customer service rep stated the date I completed the certificate. I explained to the customer service rep that I know that date is not accurate and that I would like the date that it was printed out and dropped in the mailed. Again she stated the date I completed it. I told her that is incorrect, that was the date that I completed it and I finished the test at 11:30 pm and I know that there is not someone at the office that late anticipating the completion of my course so they can drop it right away in the mail. It was hard to reason with her because she was just so uncaring and indifferent. When I could no longer get a straight answer out of her I asked to be transferred to a supervisor.
The supervisor also had a very indifferent attitude about the situation. This made me wonder how someone like him could become a supervisor. His lack of proper communication skills made it hard to take him seriously which made me believe he was not actually a supervisor. I explained to him I only wanted the date that it was mailed out. Since I paid extra for it to be mailed out the next day, the date it was mailed would surely be documented. He told me there was no real way of knowing. I questioned why the date it was mailed is not documented since this is a document that is to be used in court. I also explained the first person who I spoke with told me it was mailed on a certain date. I asked who was lying. He then agreed with the previous Customer service rep, it was mailed on the date I completed the test. I gave him the same reason for the date being incorrect that I gave the previous girl and he explained that I need to give it 2-4 weeks to get my certificate.
At this point in time I am sure we can all agree that it had…
1. Been 2 almost 4 weeks
• When I explained this to the supervisor they said that it had to be business days so the weekends don't count. (Where are these numbers coming from and why do they even think they make sense)
2. If they mailed the certificate the next day, I should of most certainly had it before the end of the month
• I live in Austin and it was being mailed from Houston. Good judgment says that I should have had that certificate in a week
This would have been a great time for the "supervisor" to be helpful. Try to make it easier on me (the paying customer) and try to find a solution. Instead I just went round and round with him till I asked to speak to another supervisor. I just didn't feel like arguing over something so small and easy. He agreed to transfer me and put me on hold and never came back
I decided to give it a couple of days (even though at this point in time it was obvious it was not coming in the mail and it would be past my due date). I called back a couple of days later and the customer service rep was actually nice but not as helpful as he could have been, but at least he was open for suggestion. Here is our conversation.
• ME: Yes I still have not gotten my certificate and my due date is past
• CSR: Well it was mailed out on this date (date I took the test)
• Me: Listen I know you don't know what date it was mailed, that's fine I need to know what I need to do going forward
• CSR: Well it does take about 2-4 weeks to get
• ME: It has been 2-4 weeks I should have had it by now
• CSR: Well we don't count the weekends. You should have it by next Wednesday
• ME: Okay let's look at this reasonably. You're in Houston and I am in Austin. Regardless if you mailed that certificate out the same date I took it, or even a week later I should have it by now
• CSR: You're right you really should have had it by now.
• ME: Alright great, so you see where I am coming from right. (Finally starting to see hope, but I can tell I will still need to push this guy in the right direction). At this point in time I think we can both agree it's not going to come in the mail. What am I supposed to do now?
• CSR is confused
• ME: Look sir, you said that I should have it by Wednesday; do you think it would be unreasonable to call back if I don't have it by Wednesday to have another one dropped in the mail? You know what…. I will even wait till Friday. Do you think that you could write a note in the account that if I call back Friday you can have another certificate reissued?
• CSR: Yeah I bet I can do that ( The CSR sounds unsure and confused)
Amazingly the confused CSR was able to write the note and I was able to have it resent on that next Friday. B in customer service for this man, F in critical thinking.
So today I just got back from court asking the judge to dismiss my case. It was dismissed, but Idrivesately.com made this process so much harder than it should have been. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this website. There are better options out there to take a driver's safety course.
