Once i had my state id and social security submitted for review by the online system, i was able to request and book an appointment for a video call verification of my physical identity government documents within 20 minutes; once on the video call, the gentleman checking my identity documents was respectful and gave the straightforward instructions in a digestible, step-by-step manner (i. E. question about why you are verifying with id. Me [e.g. Verifying benefits for veterans or medicare] and instruction to show the identity document in a specific manner so that there is a good amount of distance between the document and the webcam [first start with the identity document close to the webcam then slowly move the identity document further away, all while keeping your face visible in the background]) making the video call verification process
It sucked cuz one more way complicated than it should have been, staffing the fight with attacks to be able to clear the email and reset it so I could use it and it cost me 5 days you need to put in a telephone number so you can be contacted directly and not multiple emails and multiple responses that could have been taken care of with a 5-minute phone call

I needed to sign up for an id me due to possible identity theft. In order to file my taxes I was asked to provide an id pin. I spent nearly 4 hours trying to upload and sign in to the website to finally get to a page that repeatedly told me "something went wrong ". The wait time for a vide call was 59 minutes only to have the call drop. The chatbot was useless! I rue the day I signed up for this. Now irs tells me this is a lifetime thing and I have to get a pin each tax year. Further, I have to now ask for an extension because I couldn't be given my id pin in time before tax deadline. Getting my id pin in letter will take up to 21 days. Frustrating!
