Be Aware of the following fraud perpetrated by Hotwire: I purchased a hotel stay with hotwire based upon the hotel's location as promised by Hotwire's map. After I committed to their promise, they sold me a hotel outside of their mapped region. Then, I was told absolutely no refunds.
I could not add a booster seat to my car rental reservation through Hotwire for December 23,2023. The following directions to add amenities on their website are inaccurate; "please call the car rental agency at the number shown on your confirmation before the scheduled pick-up date to check availability." When I phoned Alamo Car Rental, the agent told me to call Hotwire. When I phoned Hotwire, the agent told me to call Alamo. Finally, after being transferred to three different Hotwire customer service representatives, the agent told me to request a booster seat at car pick-up and that there may be fees associated with the item. There will be fees, but my concern is that a booster seat may not be available to rent on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, whereas reserving a booster in advance would have given me cause to expect to have one waiting as part of my reservation. Hotwire should have an online method to book or request amenities during the car rental. This option would give the customer peace of mind during a stressful time. If I can pick up a booster seat at the Alamo desk on December 23, my 2-star rating stands. If not, I'll be back on sitejabber after Christmas with a 1-star rating only because 0 stars isn't an option. Hotwire Itinerary #*******449
Huge discounts on hotel bookings, ticket bookings and car rentals makes hotwire my favorite travel site. I highly recommend it.
My wife and I use Hotwire all the time and have yet to be disappointed. Note, that you should really only be booking 4 star and above hotels and have a general understanding of the area and you should come out alright. There's always a risk involved with these type of things, but if you do your homework you'll get a great deal!
I've used other sites for booking hotels but use hotwire most often. Love their map feature and have found outstanding deals on rental cars.
I have used hot wire few times and although I do not stick to this site but whenever I find good deal I will use it.
If you want to find great last minute deals - this site is a perfect match for you!
I get GREAT deals on Hotwire sometimes. The trick is to look on the google map they show you and see the EXACT streets/area where the "secret" hotel is... then click over to the search that SHOWS the names/areas of the hotels (the section with the higher prices because it's showing you the hotel names)... zoom onto the same exact area and compare which hotels are which.
You can usually almost pinpoint exactly which hotel it is w/the price you were interested in.
The taxes and fees can be high at final checkout, so make sure you call the hotel directly if you can figure out which one it is and get a price from them first.
In general, Hotwire provides a good service. I've used Hotwire probably 12 times.
BUT on 2 different occasions, I have tried to place an order and I've gotten an error message saying the hotel room was not available, and that my account has not been charged.
In reality, the money is taken out of your account and held for days. I don't know if the money is held by Hotwire, or by the card company or by whom, but if the transaction failure happens on a Friday evening, it will be Tues or Wed before the money goes back into your account.
It can be a real pain when you try to book a room, the transaction is bungled by the system, then you try again, and its bungled again, and you get charged TWICE for a nice hotel room...
I'm really frustrated by this. Hotwire's approach to it to say unequivocally, "It's not our fault."
Maybe it's not. But it definitely makes me afraid to use their service because if the transaction is bungled, I know I'll be out my cash for days and days...
Hot wire saves me time on finding flights from various airports. I can see what times, what days for different prices. What a convenience!
Very good web site and some good deals to be had at some hotel's
I've used hotwire a handful of times to book last minute hotel stays; all have been great, but I once came across a problem when I pulled up to a hotel and was informed there is ONLY valet parking. There was no mention of this when I was booking and I ended up spending nearly 30 a day to park, PLUS I of course had to tip because lets face it, not tipping is horrible. I have had flawless stays any other time I have booked through them, but this peeved me.
Good service, they are able to provide good hotels for a good price.
I LIKE TO USE THIS WEBSITE TO FIND HOTELS IN CITIES I AM UNFAMILIAR WITH. I HAVE USED IT ON 4 OCCASIONS TO STAY AT BISHOP CA. S. LAKE TAHOE CA. ZION NATIONAL PARK UT.AND ST. GEORGE UT. I FOUND OUT IT REALLY IS NOT CHEAPER BUT IT IS NOT MORE EXPENSIVE EITHER. IT ALLOWS YOU TO COMPARE ALL THE HOTELS AVAILABLE AND EMINITIES THEY OFFER SIDE BY SIDE. I DON'T USE THE FEATURE WHERE THEY TELL YOU WHERE YOU STAY AFTER YOU PAY, I LIKE TO KNOW WHERE I STAY BEFORE I PAY AND MAYBE THAT IS WHY I DON'T SAVE MONEY. I AM PLEASED THOUGH WITH HOW ORGANIZED IT WAS TO BOOK A ROOM AND PAY. I LIKE TO COMPARE ROOMS THIS WAY AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE HOTEL I MADE A RESERVATION AT. I NEVER USED IT TO PAY FOR AIRFARE AND A COUPLE OF TIMES TO RENT A CAR.
I would say Hotwire is useful in come cases, maybe I just get lucky. I know everytime I search for something on there I always end up getting a better deal than the other guys.
I have used this site multiple times over the past five years, with very good results as long as I have ony booked hotels that are 3 stars or above - there is an enormous decrease in quality beteween a 3 star and a 2.5 star. Also be warned that although they tell you the general location before you book, those locations tend to be very large, and the likelihood is that the hotel will be in the less attractive part of the area - after all, that is why they need to use this service to full their rooms. But if you are willing to accept this limitation, the rates are generally much lower than the ones that I have found on comparable sites. Also a hint - if you are booking somewhere (like London) where there are a lot of hotels, you can often figure out which one is listed on hotwire by comparing the features to those listed on hotels.com, since the two sites use the same categories for features.
Save up to 60% on hotel accommodations and find cheap hotel deals at top destinations. Book 4-star hotels, at 2-star prices, only with Hotwire!
