Even utilizing YouTube tutorials building a site isn't very user friendly. Primary reason I used HostGator is to build my own site and not have to pay others. Email isn't very reliable. I'm always having to re-login to send or read emails due to error codes. I've also lost content that was published. Example, where I went back months later and a page was missing. Yes the price was reasonable, but outside of saying I have a website. There's been no benefit of the website outside of personal email as a resource.
I had choose Hostgator for the rapid assistance and team experience but unfortunately thing has changed, Chat assistance are usually not expertise or work at random. An exmapl one of your tech was working on a problem of mine to installed prestashop on one of domain. But this idiot deleted my main website ans i don't know how, the chat was closed cause there was no one to attend my request. It always take a few interactions to my my issues resolved. The assisting team are not dedicated or willing to help. They also lack experiences, cause most of the time i had to resolved my issues by myself. As a web agency i no longer advice my client to use Host gator. It is not practical for us. we have better service elsewhere
Best price for the upfront cost. I have used Hostgator pages for web education for years. I was however disappointed to find I had to manually install SSL as I have asked others and they didn't have the problems I did with this process even though it looked super simple in Wordpress. Email didn't immediately work and I still can't use the default client in windows to log into my mail even using the very specific email instruction and videos that look so easy. Honestly considering a refund so far.

You MUST update your website with clear guidance if live chat does not work, "try another browser in incognito mode!". I spend hours trying to figure out how to get help. Getting the ancient 'documents help'. Please. I'm sure other people have had this issue. I had to go to facebook to complain and got help from your Facebook team. I want Hostgator to do well. This is a communication issue that should not be there.
Prices increased more the 100% + the features of the old product decrease. We are forced to accept the new changes if we want keep our product. No longer unlimited domain in baby plan. Now we should pay for privacy which already was included with ssl and more

Pop email and NOT Microsoft 365 or Google as backoffice. Like most other providers are moving to Though I am considering switching hosting providers over the jump in prices for my plan since that is a 56% increase for me to keep my current features with no value add. Even though paying in advance reduces that bill overall if feels like I am being pushed into a corner. No it is not a ton of money but every dollar counts in this economy and it is only one of many things in my life that now costs more.
Hostgator had a competitive 1st year offer. Renewal prices are not terrible but they are terrible at domain management and charge an extra fee for privacy which they do not do very well. When I paid for domain privacy, I still got emails and calls from solicitors and then when they finally fixed that it deleted from my account prematurely.
Found it on a youtube tutorial. Gave a 2 star right now since the loading time's taking too long. I cant get anything done on my website. Asked for help yesterday, you guys resolved it, and now it's back.

Hostgator has gone downhill steadily since it was acquired by EIG. The ~90% price increase with ZERO notice or explanation to its customers was pretty much the last straw. I'll be moving my hosting to a new service within the next 90 days. Hostgator used to be pretty good, but it just sucks now. If you are looking for hosting, Hostgator ain't it! Look elsewhere!
Email issue re-occurred and support isn't focusing on the problem. I've tried all of their suggestions and told to wait 24 hours for resolution. I went through the same issue last December and it took 8 days to resolve. I would think that they kept records of how it was repaired the last time and fix again. Very frustrated!
I chose HostGator because we used at work and it was fine. However, for a non-website professional, this system is NOT dummy proof so I will call the help desk again tomorrow. Totally frustrated with this whole thing. After posting this initial review, the customer satisfaction team reached out to me and they where absolutely wonderful. Information is hard to find. Layout and navigation is pretty confusing. Lot of things related to billing that were available before like previous orders etc is now gone. The site seems geared more now towards marketing of products rather than customer service.
I spoke with someone extensively yesterday about moving to HG from Google's app engine and she said it was possible. But once I sent the website backup to the team overseas to begin the migration, they implied (never said) that HG can't take a Google site. They sent a link to documentation to that effect. I don't know if the woman yesterday was desperate to make a sale or what, but now I have to dispute the credit card charge and go buy hosting somewhere else. HG support has made a difficult project (getting internal control of our company website) unnecessarily difficult. Not at all pleased.

I've been using HostGator for 4 years and I've never had any problems with use or service, but in recent years it's been doing a lot of updates and changes completely and you have to go through the process of learning it all over again, and that causes some kind of confusion.So that's why i rate with 4 stars.

I called this morning, my visitors can't visit my site, because it said, the web is unsecured; I got a very pleasant rep answer my call. She tried hard but can't resolve the problem, then she got more help from other department, worked on for hours, still can't resolve the problem. She said I will be notified of the out come. The day is almost over, I did not get any response nor notification. Now my site is totally down.

Answer: If you go straight to smartchat, it is very easy - you only need to find the smartchat button. I have worked with the Internet since web browsers were invented, so I know most of the answers already. That means that when I have a problem that I can't solve, it is going to be a real stinker for HostGator support to solve - I only bring them the difficult ones. Recently, I had an ISP who gave me terrible service, and the internet kept dropping out every few minutes. The Hostgator smartchat expert kept contact with me on and of for about an hour and three quarters until he had worked out the answer for me. That is what I call RELIABLE service.
