In January of 2024 I purchased the CRV that I had been leasing. In March, Honda sent me an invoice for a tax assessment that I had already paid to my local municipality. But I (mistakenly) assumed that Honda knew what they were doing and had correctly sent me an invoice, so I paid it. So I paid the same tax bill twice, once to Honda, once to the municipality. I have spent the better part of the last year calling Honda at least once or twice a month to follow up on when they would refund me the money that I shouldn't have sent them in the first place. I have a list of contact names/dates that I have called, and each time the customer service rep requires me to go through the entire story, and spend hours on the phone reiterating the fact that Honda sent me an incorrect bill and won't reimburse me for it. I have explained that Honda, a multibillion dollar corporation, should "own" their mistake (they should never have sent me a bill for a car they had no ownership on), and make me whole, while THEY wait for the tax office to refund them. I said I am an individual, arguing with a mega-corporation, and as the customer, they should make a business decision to reimburse me for their mistake, while they wait to get paid back. Why should I have spent the last year making call after call, sitting on hold, re-explaining the situation to a new representative month after month? It was their mistake to send me the bill in the first place, so why can't they do the right thing and simply refund it to me? I should never have paid it, but I relied on Honda thinking that I didn't understand something and I must owe it. Only afterwards did I realize that they simply made a mistake! And now I'm paying for it, for nearly a year! Time and effort, aggravation, and frustration because Honda can't simply say "we made a mistake and we'll make it up to you." The amount of the tax bill is small, this is more about the principal - the large corporation making a mistake, and then forcing you (the little guy) to pay for their error! I told them that I have been a lifetime customer of Honda's, and this refusal to correct their own error has cost them any future business from me. I want to make sure that someone at Honda understands that their $70 mistake, and refusal to "own up to it" and make me feel like a valued customer, has cost them any future business from me. That is a loss of many tens of thousands of dollars, just from me. I'm also making sure that everyone I know rethinks their decision to look at Hondas in the future. A smart company would have corrected this right away, reimbursed me, said they're sorry, and waited for the tax office to repay them. Instead, they have me run the gauntlet of customer service every month for nearly a year, with no result. How much is the new CRV worth? Well, this $70 mistake just cost them whatever that is, $30k, $40k? Whoever is in charge of monitoring this type of situation is not doing their job. Horrible company, horrible response, no attention to detail, no appropriate response to the customer. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. The best I can do is to spend my next $40k on a different car company.
There have been over 40 phone calls with Honda, explaining the situation with rep after rep, only to hear 'that's above me and someone will reach out to you'. No one reaches out. When the month-to-month lease was renewed back in December 2022, your Honda Finance representative explicitly stated that once I no longer wanted the car anymore, all I needed to do was drop it off at any Southern California dealership. That very question was clearly asked and answered.
The Signal Hill dealership refused to fix the car's condenser after the problem was diagnosed in Downey, arguing that Signal Hill would charge me for its own diagnosis. I decided to return the car there, at Honda Signal Hill, per the only information ever provided to me via Honda Finance. The owner said he would not accept the car and would thus file it as abandoned if I do not pick it up.
I placed several calls to Honda Finance to ask why he was refusing to accept the car. Your representatives were telling me instructions as to what to tell the owner so he would take it. My response to your reps was, "YOU tell him!" Their response was basically 'that's above me and someone will reach out'. No one reached out. I finally got someone to at least try to assist. From there, your Finance Department wrote a letter to Honda Signal Hill, asking the owner to accept the vehicle. The owner again said no. I told the owner he is unfriendly and incompetent…but I was only half way right. While he indeed is unfriendly, the title of incompetence goes to Honda Finance.
It took 13 phone calls before any Honda Finance representative said, for the first time ever, that the Signal Hill location was not a location which accepts corporate cars. This would explain why the Signal Hill owner was so baffled when Honda Finance wrote the letter asking him to take it. Honda Finance didn't even know its own protocol. It turned out that it is Honda Cerritos which takes corporate returns, a dealership which is only a 15-minute drive away. I would have happily returned it there on 17 June if Honda had instructed me to, as it is even closer to my home. It makes absolutely no difference to me as long as I am informed properly. It took 1.5 months to even figure out what the problem was.
Back in August, I sat down with the Signal Hill General Manager John Pill. He flat out told Honda Finance you guys are doing this all wrong and that you have been giving me the "runaround" for quite some time. From this very lengthy call, this was the first time EVER that a third party called "True 360" was mentioned in any conversation. It turns out that True 360 would need to come to a location of my choosing for an inspection. 3 months after dropping off the car at a dealership Honda Finance approved, I was finally told, for the first time ever, that all we needed to do was have True 360 come to Honda Signal Hill. Keep in mind John Pill also called Honda Finance several times, asking for instructions. He got the same confusion I got. True 360 went to Signal Hill Honda in September I believe.
So you think once True 360 finished, you guys would relocate the car and we are all done. Right? No. The car sat in the Signal Hill lot for months before the dealership arranged for it to be towed over to Cerritos (I do not know which dealership paid for it). Once it got to Cerritos, I was told I was months overdue, with an outstanding bill. Pretty much, Honda is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life.
CFPB,
Honda Financial Services is breaking the Covid19 executive order preventing auto repos until May 11,2023! I work for the State of IL IDES and am off work per my doctor since 8/2022 for severe stress after all at work bullied, mobbed, and dumped all the work on me for almost five years while they sat and talked and ate all day! That is what caused me to get sick. I was working all the OT too and driving two hours round trip to the office in Effingham IL do 60-70 hour weeks! Treated me the same in the Mt Vernon IL offices too and another single mother. I am twice widowed.
They also denied my workers comp and disability while I am off to have had 0 income for six months. I still paid my car payments halfway through Dec 2022 and have paid them for the last five years the car will be paid off in Oct 2023!
Now Honda Financial Services has padded my account for $1000 in repo fees and marked it as a repo! Five days ago my payoff was quoted as $5,413.00 by Cedric and today Whitney in the Irving Texas office quoted it as $6,233.06 and said it could change! She was threatening and intimidating a government employee as were the bullies she sent to my door and the others I called who were verbally rude and abusive, all also lied about everything, with different answers and amounts from everyone, one would say all was fine, the next was sending people to try to take my car. I have filed complaints with the CFPB, FTC, and IL Attorney Generals' contacted Pritzker, Biden, Durbin, and numerous Republican reps Bost, Miller, and Weideman, left messages or referred and have not helped!
No one is doing their job, no one is enforcing the laws and Honda Financial is breaking the laws by trying to repo my car and committing fraud by padding my bill! I need your help! I can't even leave the house due to all of it! Please contact them and deal make them cease and desist all repo efforts and harassment, remove it from my account and my credit report, remove the fraudulent and illegal $1000 in repo fees they padded my bill with, and fine them! My credit is ruined due to all too! I cannot get a loan, have no savings left, cannot get a credit card, and cannot refi! They have also negatively affected my and all four of my parents and stepparents health who are in their 80s and 90s and have had cancer and put our lives in danger due to keeping me from being afraid to leave my home with their threats of repo and intimidation and harassment of a government employee!
Deceitful, liars, manipulators, and intentionally try to repo cars at the end of the note to try to gouge for fees, especially those like mine financed for only four years!! They are the lowlifes, go to a bank or borrow from family! I am going to stop buying from these arrogant, dishonest, SOBs and switch to another auto brand!!
Auto loan.
