Former sales associate at Homestars
December 30, 2023

I worked at Homestars as the annoying person who would always call you to sign up. The job had its great days and others were horrible! You were expected to make at least 120 calls daily and have a talk time of at least 3 hours per day. Also it was a salary job plus commission, so if you wanted me to call you after hours, I was not getting paid for that (and I would call you after hours, so if you are someone who asked for it, please pick up that phone, I hated missing time with my family only to be ghosted!)

Now, for the people saying they call all the time, it's true they call ALL THE TIME! We were expected to call you at least 5 times before you were put back into a cooling off time (a few months) before called again. The only way to get off this list is to SPECIFICALLY SAY REMOVE US AND DO NOT CALL AGAIN. If you do not say that, they will not remove you, only put you back in for a call in a few months. Also, the reps who call you, are given the lists and have to call you, so I got used to being told off multiple times a day because of how often we would call, and I had no choice (alternatively, I spoke to many who were driving between jobsites who were not interested but had great conversations and enjoyed it!). Just remember, the person calling you is getting pushed by the higher-ups to call you, so everyone is pressured, its sales, but politely saying to remove from the list is the best way to stop calls.

Next is price, damn it was expensive! You are charged based on location and category, so if you choose to go on HS, make sure you know what you want and the area or you will be overpaying and getting crap leads. Also if you are in back woods of Alberta, don't expect any leads! Basically, any leads are from major city centres, AND then you are on a rotation depending on how many other companies are in your area (and I will add they are sent through a rotation and evenly distributed). Price is negotiable as well so if it is something you want to do, hit them back hard on the price!

To summarize is it worth it, I mean it all depends, Sure reviews are important to some, but depending on what you do and the area, it can be (I mean if you install overhead doors an hour outside Toronto, hell no. If you are a handyman who does small jobs downtown Toronto absolutely (they have A TON of leads because nobody wants the small jobs)) but if you have the mindset that you are going to get a ton of leads for the price you are wrong! If you have a high-margin business and pocket 20-30k per job, then if it cost 8k a year and you get 1 or 2 good leads it sure can be.

HomeStars is ripping off company's reputation
November 10, 2016

HomeStars doesnt have any integrity & liars. When we tried to post a negative review on them on their website, they never post it. But the review is on google & all the websites...
Below is the whole story:
Please avoid using HomeStars. I registered my company with HomeStars from more than 3 & half years. We are rated #1 company in the appliances repair category in GTA. We have over 600 reviews. We got best servicer for 2016 and everything was working great. But everything has changed Seven weeks ago when we got an email from HomeStars saying they have received suspicious reviews & this activity has also disqualified our company from next year Best of Awards recognition. And the disaster started from that point. I tried to contact them to know what kind of suspicious review they are talking about. Our companys reputation is built on an integrity and honesty since 2000. We never did any fake reviews, so it doesnt make any sense to do non legitimate reviews after having more than 600 reviews & best servicer award of 2016! Then they dropped my recommendation meter from the maximum to the lowest. I sent them many emails to know what the problem is. But they didnt even reply back. I requested a manager to contact me & till now it didnt happen. I wasted many days going through 600 reviews to find out the reviews that have been removed. I found 8 reviews some of them aged 2 years ago. Though I went beyond limit and managed to send them all the proofs that these are a legitimate reviews coming from real customers to solve the problem. Then finally they posted again the 8 reviews. But they dropped my company star score from 97% to 67%. Again I tried to contact a manager or set a business meeting to solve the problem. The reply I got is our policy doesnt support meetings with companies & you cant contact the review verification team. Five days later I found 4 more reviews have been removed. Then things went more worth as now they are not posting most of my new reviews and my customers are getting very upset because I waste their time to write reviews which doesnt get posted.
Finally my success coach told me in the phone, take a break & dont post any new reviews now until things get better seriously!, is this how they solve problems. So Im paying them to destroy my companys reputation & to let me lose my customers when they see the 67% low star score.
Its almost 2 month now & the problem gets more complicated.
This is how HomeStars is treating their own customers. They dont respect them. They dont have the ability to solve problems. Their system is faulty & flagging reviews aged 2 years which was approved earlier.
I have all the proofs and everything is documented for every single customer. I will never allow anyone to mess around with my companys reputation which is based on an integrity and honesty for 16 years in business. I collected all the required documents & I will let my lawyer be prepared to take a legal action.
