“I've always had good luck with HomeAway”

Cindi M.
4/4/20

I have rented numerous properties through HomeAway over the years, always with good experiences. I have found the company particularly stellar during the COVID19 outbreak. I had 3 separate properties rented in mid-March for a myriad of family memebers. They worked swiftly and efficiently with the home owners to resolve travel disruptions we experienced as a result of the pandemic. In one case, the homeowner was extremely gracious and issued a refund for our shortened trip which was quickly issued through HomeAway. A second property that my family had to vacate early (2 nights early) was challenging because of the property owner. The owner fell back on the 50% only cancellation fee for a current disruption. I will mention it was the Alamont Manor in Fort Myers, property #7084062. The owner is from Germany and not empathetic at all to what was happening with the advancing COVID crisis. I would never rent her property again. I bought trip insurance for that specific property through HomeAway. I was forced to file a claim with CSA which took numerous (7) hours to complete. Probably not worth it for 2 nights reimbursement. Which I will probably never see. Lesson here is I'll never buy trip insurance through HomeAway again. I would have been better off without it because HomeAway would have taken care of me directly. I really felt supported by the company through all this. I'll continue to use them for my travel experiences.

The place was very clean inside but had a odor smell which made us only spent one night instead of the 2 nights we booked the light in one of the bedroom was not working the property around was very bushey. We wanted to try something different but this place was not worth the price per night. If a person pay for 2 nights no need to be sending emails on check out time. I wi not recommended the place.

Our family of six thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pica Flora rental property. The scenery was beautiful. It was very peaceful and homey. Great for adults who appreciate no t. V. There is wifi for those so inclined. The plants and wildlife are bountiful. Restful areas throughout the property to sit and read or take in the views. It is like a home. Comfy. Many items in the kitchen to use... showing a loved and cared for Homeawayfromhome. Leiticia, the property manager is readily available and will meet you in town to take you to the home. We had a wonderful stay.

This apartment was a wonderful location in Old Town Quebec City. While the apt wasn't very big and sparsely appointed it was quite comfortable and very convenient. We will definitely book this property again when in Quebec City!

So HomeAway just posted better than expected results. Yet note that revenue has dropped when the economy is picking up and Q2 is when a lot of the vacations are booked. So how did they do it?
If you ask homeowners and guests who book through their website you will find that renters are getting bombarded by unwanted adds and offers. Hence the increased revenue. For the owners who post their properties on home away their is an uproar!
The ability to use other means of payment (via check, paypal or other means) has been virtually shut down. So Homeaway has increased their income by adding that extra fee on the payment to their coffers. On the other hand they have only one set of responses and communication that the owner can use to communicate with the renter, and it is impersonal, full of adds and scripted answers that do not allow for a personalized and friendly communication with the renter.

So while this quarter`s results are up, be prepared for a continued drop in revenue as homeowners find better, more flexible and friendlier sites to post their properties. Short term greed that has taken over since VRBO was purchased by HomeAway and will lead to a drop in future earnings unless they change their stance. Property owners are dissatisfied. I for one have 2 properties that I will be posting soon... they will not be going to Homeaway. And the current one we have will also leave.

Hi. I'm a holiday home owner and pride myself on the impeccable state of the property. Most of our bookings have been through HomeAway and until this past week everything has run smoothly. I had a couple arrive last week and apparently the woman had a massive allergic reaction "within 10 minutes". Whilst the house is extremely clean and neat as a pin, it is 500 years old with exposed beams and stone walls and chimney. All fresh interiors and fitting. Brand new kitchen and bathroom. Linens all professionally cleaned and pressed. The 1st email that came arrived and was nothing short of an attack on me and my home. The 2nd email was a personal attack on me. I was initially prepared to return part of the payment as a jester of good will however after the 3rd email demanding I reimburse 6 of the 7 days paid I cut this client off. Surely this comes under medical/travel insurance now? Why am I expected to wear the cost of someones chronic medical condition? There is literally no way I could foresee something like this happening. I imagine they will be chasing HomeAway now though I have been assured they do not have any serious claim. People, please make sure you are covered in case of unforeseen situations like this! HomeAway will not help you and as an owner I have to protect my loses too!

I am trying to write a review for a VRBO condo at the Seasons Resort in the Attitash Mountains in Bartlett New Hampshire. Could you post this review on homeaway vacation rental reviews property *******? I tried unsuccessfully to access that website.
We stayed at the above property from July 18-24 2015. Four adults and two children.
The condo was nice. Looks just like the photos. Everything was provided as advertised. The activities were awesome. Did Mt. Washington WOW. It's a must. Took the children to Story Land. Perfect. Thomas the Train was at the train station for the weekend. Children loved it. Diana's Baths for a short hike, swim and picnic was neat. The restaurants were outstanding. Everyone was very friendly and went out of their way to make our experiences enjoyable. That includes the resort personal who got us discount tickets and were so nice and especially the condo owner who was so kind in helping me through the rental process, sending the keys by express mail, answering all my inquiries in a timely fashion, and just being very nice to work with.
This is an outstanding, reputable, easy to use vacation rental service.

I was a bit nervous after reading all the dreadful reviews for Homeaway. I can say we had no issues with them at all. No complaints. The apartment - ground floor 59-596 A Kamehameha Highway Haleiwa - was roomy, clean, comfortable, well-appointed. The directions to find it and to get in were spot-on. It is actually located at Pupukea - a short walk across the road to the most beautiful beach, and walking distance along a shared bike path, to a Foodland and some great little eateries. This area looks very down at heel, and we were a bit alarmed at first. There is a house in front of this property, on the same block, with barking dogs and rubbish strewn everywhere. It is on a very busy road, and there are noisy neighbours. It was a relief when we got inside, but it is definitely only for inside living - no balcony or views. We discovered that the upstairs studio apartment had a balcony, so that might be a better choice if you want to enjoy the balmy evenings and the sunset.

Unfortunately, I had to attend a funeral in Rochester, ny. Once the funeral date was confirmed, I paid and book property#******* on Thursday afternoon (owner name David Culeton.) Following day the funeral date changed. I immediately contacted Mr. Culeton to explain and discuss changing the dates. He was booked on those dates. However, it hasn't been 24hrs that I booked. So he decided to take 1/2 of my payment. It's in the policy that he can do so. However, my issue is he was not compassionate and only concern was money. He did attempt to find another location that he didnt own but it was not suitable for my family so I declined. It's been exactly 11 days and I havent recieved my refunded portion. Contacted homeaway and explained what he explain to me why he kept all my money bc je said he lost money bc I was inquiring on dates 10/16-10/18 so it blocked his calendar. But nonpayment was actually made until 10/18. Homeaway said it was somewhat truthful but cant do anything bc of refund policy 30 days cancelation you'll get 100% to find or 7-14 days you'll get 50% back. So I lost money and still had to find another rental in a safe location within 3 days. So now I'm back on website looking and found property #******* (owner name isnt listed but its listed as Allure Home designs and rental)
I referred another relative about her property and he paid and booked got confirmation# 10/21. We had questions about the bedrooms, no response until 10/24. She didnt call to respond to our questions. She responded wanting more money bc she stated price on website was incorrect and she wanted 200 more dollars. Or she will refund our money. We asked can she waiver it since it's less than 24 hrs that were leaving. She called back and said she'll break it down to 80 dollars now. At this point I'm frustrated at the fact she starting to sound money hungry. After we decided to not pay more money she refunded our money and increased the price per night. I called homeaway website and explained the first gentleman I spoke with help my family out tremendously by giving us 2 options. It was extremely late by this time so I explain I'll call tomorrow and make a decision. Second guy was kinda aying tuff guy, so I spoke to the third guy and he was awesome. He put me and my family in a hotel that was paid in full so we can have a ace to stay once we arrived. The owners make the website look extremely unproffesional and money hungry!

My experience with booking my vacation rental through this site was effortless as far as contacting the owners, booking and making payments.

HomeAway has a vast variety of properties to choose from as well as prices. You have the choice of going with a luxury villa, cabin in the woods, high-rise condo or a bungalow on the beach. There really are some beautiful properties made available through this site.

Our house was exactly as pictured the only problem I had was the bed in the master bedroom, my god the beauty of that bed and room did not match the ten days of hell I endured sleeping on that bed of perpetual torture, but I can't be blame HomeAway for that.

All in all my experience with HomeAway was good and I fully plan on using their site again in the future if I'm not up for a hotel.

We have just returned from a beautiful vacation in France. We had rented two large farmhouses at the Bed and Breakfast facility "Le Four a Sel" in the village of Aubas, just a few kilometers from Montignac. The houses were clean and well set up... swimming pool was well-kept... the owners of Le Four a Sel live on site and were helpful in suggesting local points of interest and restaurants. All in all- a very positive experience!

I've used HomeAway to rent homes in St. Simon, Wrightsville Beach, Savannah, and London. In all cases, the homes met my expectations and when I've had to contact the owners, they were readily accessible and responsive.

I have advertised my holiday rental on HomeAway (originally Holiday Rentals) since 2008 and have been very impressed with the number of enquiries and bookings generated. I am currently thinking about using HomeAway to accept online payments when I renew my advertisement which is why I decided to look for reviews for the site. I am amazed they are so bad but I can only comment on them as an owner not a renter.

I see many reviews here blaming Homeaway for a bad experience. Vacation renters, please know that Homeaway/VRBO do not own any of the properties you see on their site. They are merely the marketers for property owners that pay to advertise on their site.

Homeaway/VRBO do not inspect properties, make sure the homeowners are competent or anything of that nature. They simply bill the property owners to place their properties for rent on their site.

Great folks to rent from. Home was very clean and spacious. A few things were a bit worn, but everything was in good repair. The owners were very responsive and helpful with our needs. Plan to rent from them again

We really enjoyed 7900 Estero and everything that it offered. If we weren't at the beach we were in the pool. There were 3 families and this home had plenty of room for all of us and was very accommodating with 2 kitchens and 3 bathrooms. My parents stayed on the ground level and was very helpful then they had no stairs to maneuver. Home is very well kept and furnishings were very tasteful. Property was very well maintained.

In January 2017 we spent a month at this home with our 2 dogs. The home was neat, clean and very tidy. The yard was totally fenced for the dogs which was awesome and scads of walking trails. The only issue we had was trying to start the barbeque and when we notified the owner we had a new barbeque within hours. Without a shadow of a doubt we would stay again.
