Loss of money
June 6, 2016

Had to pay for a parking lot due to kiosk being out of order (their fault). Hertz didn't reimburse the expenses, but provided me with a coupon which I don't need at all.

Probably this is one of the many reasons Hertz Dollar Thrifty has filed Chapter 11 CAN YOU BELIEVE they have paid a Software company to write in there software a charge for EARLY RETURN $25.00 and if you don't examine the final bill when you return your car or on your credit card statement which I would think 99% of the public do not they get away with over charging MILLIONS A DAY. Why doesn't the federal government do something about that.
EXAMINE YOUR BILL

Hertz charged me $250 in tolls when in reality I used possible 4 tolls my entire trip. When confronted with evidence of their mistake, they "wiped out my balance" which didn't help me since they had ALREADY CHARGED MY CARD. Then had the audacity to deny that they received any funds from my credit card company even though the charge is clearly there. I am STILL dealing with this a month and a half later and Hertz has yet to take any responsibility. PLEASE NEVER USE THESE FRAUDULENT THIEVES.

Not only they overcharge and force you to pay extra on everything but there are some big security concerns and Customer service is brainless enough to not to understand.

I suddenly got a reservation confirmation on my email. Somebody made a reservation from the Hertz Gold account from pickup from Philadelphia airport from Detroit which I don't have any relation with.

Even though I could cancel online reservations myself, I wanted to figure out what was going on. I changed my account password and called customer service. After redirecting 3 times and waiting 30 mins on each redirect, I speak with a customer representative with a very low IQ. The only thing she did was cancel the reservation. Every time I asked her about the security and why somebody able to login to my account and made a reservation under my name ( using corporate discount) she said I should talk to my bank. I tried to explain to her it has nothing to do with the bank since there are no payments yet but she was not intelligent enough to understand. I don't know if they also have access to my credit card information my personal details etc... Since I felt like it is a waste of time to explain my situation, I had to hang up. I looked at their website if I can send some kind of ticket or form to submit the issue but the only option is to go through their annoying phone service again. I prefer to leave my account security in a questionable state rather than wasting more hours to resolve, something that I probably can't get help with this kind of a customer service.

DO NOT USE HERTZ
July 21, 2024

DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ. They have the worst customer service. It is impossible to talk to a live human. I reserved a car through their app and entered a credit card. When I arrived to pick up the car I was told they don't accept that type of credit card and they could not help me and there were no exceptions. I was stranded in their parking lot for an hour in 90 degree heat while finding other transportation. Two days later they charged my card 51.00 for canceling the reservation. The same card they claimed they don't accept. I was there and there on time for the reservation. I did not cancel it...they denied me a car. I called customer service and was told it would be a 10 minute wait. The first call i held for 30 minutes and hung up the second call i held for an hour and still never spoke to anyone! The only way to reach customer service is via email and they take 3 to 5 business days to reply. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. HORRIBLE COMPANY. HERTZ ARE NOTHING BUT CROOKS! DO NOT USE HERTZ!

Our flight was canceled at New Orleans International Airport so was desperate for a one way car rental to DFW airport. All the other rental car agencies had zero options for our request but Hertz was able to take care of our needs and were able to put us in a nice ride. The rental professional at the counter was extremely helpful and one of the kindest people I've ever met, her name was Lisa. So if ever in New Orleans in need of a rental car i would advise you to go see Lisa at Hertz rental, you will not be disappointed i promise.

I worked in the call center in Oklahoma City.

This is a place that requires a disciplined individual to successfully work here, and most people in the age group they usually hire, people in their 20s, don't have that.

The first thing our training group noticed and openly commented on was when reviewing the handbook that the company seemed to be out to get their employees. Admittedly, being only 24 years old I didn't have the level of maturity they were demanding in the job, but it wasn't going to work anyways because of the petty nitpicking.

Because of this, they went on hiring binges at the first of every year. People would quit during the year, and they wouldn't replace them until they started hiring again the next year leaving themselves with a skeletal crew by year-end.

I had people in the building ratting me out and even people at the rental locations tracking my supervisor done when I advised customer of the wrong information.

After four months, I could see I attracted too much negative attention. I went into the office at the start of my shift and said I was quitting right in front of a group of new hires that just happened to be there.

I now make over $200K per year and have never rented a car from Hertz. They usually don't have the best rates anyway.

Horrible Service!
June 11, 2021

I called more than ten times in one day and when I did get an answer the guy was Very RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL. I asked for the manager and he continued to say they don't have managers so j asked for a supervisor and started the same thing. I've never been so ANGRY with a company in my life. I need to extend my car but I can't get anyone on the phone for the past two days. I feel like they're trying to take up the price like I didn't call. Now another RUDE guy answers the phone since I refused to hang up the call. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE.IM NOT SURE OF WHERE THEIR LOCATED since the agent wouldn't answer that question for some reason. Now I'm sitting on hold because they want me to hang up. I wish Enterprise was closer because they never disappoint.

As a long-time Dollar Express member preparing for post-pandemic travel, my profile needed updates for expiring drivers license and credit card. The website rejected my work-horse credit card (I use it every day) and there was/is no way to contact a human to update it -- no Chat, no 800 number on the website (anymore, it still shows on my rental receipt); the website feedback I sent has not been answered. So after standing through a zoo of a line at Love Field on Friday, today I tried again on the website and it failed again. Then I called Dollar and on the phone I pressed the car rental option (in an attempt to get a human). After a 25 minute wait, the rental booking agent came on, listened to my problem, and graciously agreed to update my profile herself (she didn't have anyone to even hand me off to!)

So I didn't know that Hertz actually owns Dollar until I saw the Hertz van with Dollar and Thrifty logos on it on Friday at Love Field; nor about the pending bankruptcy case -- but bankruptcy is not surprising because this company seems to be reeling out of control. Once a bell-weather example of customer service, Hertz is now on-par (IMO) with fly-by-night operators -- yes, site-jabber.com does have some 4 or 5 star ratings, but all I could find of those were from before the pandemic. Almost everything I found that is recent (late 2020 or '21) has a one-star rating, with tales like mine or worse. As a Dollar Express member, I feel like a casualty. This ship will continue going down if this so-called customer service goes on.

Tried and tried and tried to call the Hertz Rental car place in Orem, UT. No answer. Got lucky once and got an answer. Had questions I needed answered about the car my daughter was renting. Shawn blatanly told me I was not a priority because I was on the phone. "YOU AREN'T A PRIORITY"? Really? Well, Hertz, maybe you need to tell Shawn that every customer is a priority. And maybe you should get voice mail since the phone never gets answered.

Fraud in charges
November 29, 2020

I rented a car for my daughter Pictures, the car was extremely dirty and on top of that there was drugs found in the car. My 3 year old daughter found a marijuana pipe and manager said nothing can be done about it and also charged me $100 dollars for half of tank of gas, more then what I actually paid for the rental car. Worst rental company ever. I called tried to speak with manager and I was told they can't do anything about Billing. WORST PLACE EVER TO RENT A CAR!

Ok I say just reimburse my card difference. Well we can't do that here. Do what! Then all sudden she say hold on we don't have anything for u to take not a 5 passenger not a car hell not even a bike. Now I'm 5 hrs into my vacation traveling time down drain an they proceed to tell me that they can't refund my money either I gotta call corporate. Well I'm heading home cause no we are going to have to take our own vehicular and chance it cause no number to talk to anybody for them to get me a rental from another location the location I was at did not care they was closing at 12 noon an I try to get hold some one to refund money an nobody u can talk to on phone to do that all automated an nothing for refund they didn't have my rental. Horrible customer service! When I arrived, they told me I could not rent with my debit card that can be run as credit. I did not have a credit card active so they told me if I have my husband use his, due to him being 24 years old he would be charged an additional $27 a day. We have always upgraded our vehicle but their lot was completely empty. We ended up with a utility vehicle that did not fit in majority of the parking garages. Keep in mind we were on vacation for our wedding anniversary so this put a big damper on the excitement. Then to make matters worse they told me that if I brought the vehicle back after 12 pm on Sat, they would charge me for Sunday and Monday. Every company I rent from has offered a key drop box with no additional fees for turning in the vehicle in the evening. I called in a complaint to customer service and they apologized for all the inconveniences I endured, they then told me I would be compensated and refunded for the cost of the vehicle. 2 weeks later the fee is still on my account and when I called again the customer service rep began arguing with me about the situation and told me all he could offer is a $50 credit to my next rental. I will never use this company again so that credit is useless. I am appalled at their lack of care for the customer. I hope you read this and steer clear of Hertz.

Hertz, Dollar Car Rental and Thrifty Car Rental are all owned by the same corporate SCUMBAGS that SCAM people when renting cars BUYER BEWARE! I will go to the ends of the Earth to make sure EVERYONE knows what a SCAM Thrifty is! Upon arriving for my rental ("Manager's Special"), the attendant took my credit card and ID for a rental that I reserved, checked in via text the day prior, ALL at $169... He ('Jay' at Portland Airport) handed me back my card and a receipt for $536. I ADDED NOTHING... He said the online reservation (THROUGH Thrifty Car Rental 's website, NO THIRD PARTY) was "just an estimate"... So, my car went from $169 to $536? Yup! BUYER BEWARE! When I questioned Jay, he became so upset, he ripped my receipt out of my hand, told me he is refusing to rent to me, and now three days later, they still have a hold on my card. Refused to let me speak to a manager, refused to tell me a manager's name, took my name and number and said they would call me... NOTHING. This company is nothing but CROOKS!

Decieved
November 5, 2020

When we picked up our rental my husband purchased the insurance on top of our insurance which already covered the car. We were not made aware that this was a DAILY CHARGE. We were very much deceived by the man at the counter who purposely did not make this clear to us. Hertz charged us 800 dollars for 17 days and by the time we realized it, it was too late. I spent an hour and a half on the phone with customer service trying to explain the situation as we cannot afford this! I explained that the charge was not made clear to us, and as their customers we felt deceived. The manager that I spoke too did not care, they didn't care that we felt deceived. Worst customer service I have ever had. I asked them if they were ok if I let everyone else know how we had been treated and they seemed fine with it so here I am. We cannot afford this after all we had been through with our accident! So note that the insurances are daily charges don't be deceived. And if you can, do your business with another company.

Hertz Rental Record -******* 8th May 2023
I arrived at Dublin Airport to take charge of a car booked 3 months earlier with $A720 charge against my debit card. I was told that If I could not produce a credit card, an additional 23 Euros per day Insurance would be added to my rental. I do not use credit cards so the additional charges were added but the interesting thing was that Hertz accepted a further 406 Euro hold on my DEBIT CARD to complete the booking paperwork. On arriving back in Australia some weeks later I checked my paperwork to find that I had been charged 34.05 Euros extra per day plus 13.5% tax which became a 100.33 Euro overcharge. I contacted Hertz Head Office seeking a refund but with no reply to my email so I am informing anyone that may consider renting a vehicle from Hertz in the future to be aware of these shonky business practices.
