DONT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY WITHOUT GETTING A CHAIR AND SITTING DOWN TO READ EVER PAGE, I THINK THERE WAS 8 PAGES, ANYWAY AT NO TIME WAS I TOLD THERE WAS NO SMOKING IN THE CAR, NO STICKER ON CAR OR WHEN I RENTED IT NO ONE SAID ANYTHING, SO I FIGURED IT WAS OK TO SMOKE. I WAS NEVER CONTACTED OR TOLD ANYTHING, I GOT MY CREDIT CARD STATEMENT AND THEY CHARGED ME 400.00 DOLLARS EXTRA, IF YOU READ THE FINE PRINT THERE IS A SHORT STATEMENT SAYING NO SMOKING. I WILL NEVER RENT HERTZ THEM AGAIN.
I went to pick a car up and they got the key out of a bag that said dirty cars the car stinks I paid over $50 a day for an suv they gave me a little wagon and said it's an suv I called the customer service number the dont even car and refuse to help I'd walk 600 miles b4 I rent from this company again
I booked my rental a week before my travel because the price was cheaper than where I usually rent out to (CAR ALREADY PAID FOR). I got there to pick up my rental and was told they no longer have the vehicle I booked and cancelled my reservation and left me a voicemail. I was told that I can book a bigger vehicle for more money per day, I declined and was told my refund would be in my account within a few hours. I'm 5 days in and still don't have my money. They could have offered a discounted price to upgrade but they didn't, I will never go through them again, knowing I paid in advance and no appreciation!
We rented a car back in Dec. 2021 and when we drove off it reeked of body odor and cigarettes. We had the car less than 24 hours. We returned it the next morning because it was gross. They charged me $1617. 19 for the 2 week reservation. We got on it and were later told they would refund us $1517. 19 and charge us only $100 for the night. Ridiculous?! YEP! It's gets better. They only refunded us $1400. 39. I've been calling and fighting for the $117.19 discrepancy since Dec. I'll end up letting it go, but not w/o a nasty review and a warning to everyone out there. If you have an issue with your rental at Hertz, good luck. You will talk to someone in India and they could care less about you. They will give you reference numbers and tell you they're working on it and it will be escalated and you will receive a phone call in 24 to 48 hours. I've talked to Louis the Jerk 3 times, Javan and Iris and the list goes on. I have 6 reference numbers. It's ridiculous. Right now I'm talking to Iris and she says she's refunding the $117.19 right now. Yeah, RIGHT! Don't rent with Hertz. And if you still do. You've been warned.
I had to rent a car through my insurance company, idk why I chose Hertz and not Enterprise. I had to drive all the way downtown Cincinnati for 1.2, when I got there one guy said he didn't even know how to process a rental through insurace, so I had to wait another 45-60 minutes for the "manager" to get back. Before even going down I tried calling 6-7 times, no one ever answered the phone. 3, a week after I returned the rental my cc was charged $120 for no reason and I cannot get anyone at any location or customer service for that matter to answer the phone. DON'T RENT FRON HERTZ!
I have been a loyal Hertz Gold Card member for many years. I rarely rented from any other company given the company's helpful phone assistance, the pick up and drop off process, and overall dependable vehicles and rental experience. I have to say after the company emerged from bankruptcy, still the largest rental company based on vehicles rented, I am completely fed up with the current rental experience. A few weeks ago I rented a mid-sized car to be picked up at the Hertz location at the Phoenix airport on May, 20th of this year. I rented the car for seven days with a scheduled drop off at the McCarren Airport in Las Vegas on May 27th and the total cost was supposed to be $1,065.
N…
Rented a SUV for 1day for business from Hertz at Ottawa Airport on May 11th and was told if I returned it by 12:30pm next day, my charge would be $187. Returned at 1:54pm they charged me $319:46 an extra $132 for an extra 1 hour 24 minutes! This extra charge is outrageous I will never rent from Hertz again!
NEVER RENT A CAR FROM HERTZ IN IRELAND! I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 40 YEARS BOTH AUTOMATIC AND MANUAL VEHICLES. I RENTED A CAR FROM HERTZ IN IRELAND THAT ENDED UP HAVING CAR ISSUES 4 DAYS INTO OUR 10 DAY RENTAL. THEY CHARGED ME FOR A TOW BACK TO THE AIRPORT, THEY CHARGED ME 60 EURO A DAY UPGRADE FEE BECAUSE THE ONLY CAR THEY HAD LEFT WAS AN AUTOMATIC, THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE CLUTCH THAT HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THEY ENDED UP CHARGING ME AN ADDITIONAL 1,906.39 EUROS ON TOP OF MY ORIGINAL 1221.28 EURO RENTAL. TOTAL SCAM! I ASK QUESTIONS IN EMAILS THAT ARE NEVER ANSWERED. I CALL AND LEAVE MESSAGES WITH NO RETURN PHONE CALLS...COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED!
Reservations for car 12/16/2021 to 12/20/2021. Cost $476.40. Flights were canceled and we could not pick up car until 12/17/2021. HERTZ CUSTOMER SERVICE gave us a new price for 12/17 to 12/20 of $3,740.00! Yes they did this! I asked multiple times to clarify. "OUR PRICES HAVE CHANGED". This is the worst example of price gouging have ever seen!
NO WE DID NOT TAKE THEIR CAR! And NO…. I will NEVER use HERTZ AGAIN FOR anything at any price.
You can not get a live person, the website loops around and a around just like the loop while trying to call outsourced employees that give you the same numbers you already tried employees at there locations are rude and do not care, We went to to 4 locations that confirmed reservations to find they had no cars
Now im having an issue with extending (they didnt give me my rental record so i cant do online)
Also have an issue with billing and they just send me back to the loop
OUTSOURCING SEEMS TO BE THE TREND and automation. ALL TO SAVE A BUCK but what about the customer service
I was in the process of renting a car at the Hertz counter at Dallas Love Field Airport when I encountered a problem. When I entered my Chase credit card for payment, the transaction was denied and I was routed to the fraud department. After answering numerous questions to prove my identity and long periods of waiting on the phone, the transaction continued to be declined. The Chase representative suggested the problem was with the credit card machine at the Hertz counter - a ridiculous suggestion since numerous people had come and gone and the machine worked fine. However, we moved to another register and made another attempt(where I left my driver's license). Eldon remained calm(me-not so much) and we went back to the first register where Eldon made a call on my behalf. The transaction was finally processed(no thanks to the Chase fraud department). Eldon walked me out to the lot and helped me select a safe, clean, practically new vehicle for my drive from Dallas to Harrisburg. A few days after my return to Pennsylvania, I received my driver's license in the mail. Eldon, I can't thank you enough! Management - take note - this man deserves a raise!
We landed in Oklahoma Thursday eve 8:45 pm for your sons college graduation. We had a SUV rented and even provided our flight locator number. When our family got to the Hertz counter at 8:45 they were closed. We we stuck without any transportation and was 27 miles from our hotel. No one at corporate would answer they were also closed.( we were not the only family left without transportation). HOW COULD THEY JUST LEAVE KNOWING THAT THEY HAD CUSTOMERS DEPENDING ON THEM? We called AMEX the next morning to let them know of our situation. Then after many attempts we were able to talk with a hertz representative who stated the it was our fault. To add insult into injury the conversation was extremely unpleasant. We are furious nd we still have not gotten to speak with a hertz representative. We never received an apology. Now that hertz corporate is relocated to Estero, Fl. I will most probably go there in person. I still want to speak with someone from corporate! Silence is not golden!
Hi, we had a very disappointing case with car rental in Italy, Venice (Hertz franchise). A clear dishonest treatment. We had a car accident (fortunately not serious damage!), and after a very detailed investigation by local police (Slovenia) who did an exceptionally professional job we got an official report, that clearly claims that it was the fault of the other driver (local) and he also paid the fees (in accordance with specific paragraph of Slovenian legislation). All the documents, including Insurance, were forwarded to the office in Italy (where the car was rented). Despite a clear-cut case, they judged that we were guilty anyway and had to pay for the damage. It wasn't even an official response with arguments. Seems like the whole documentation was just disregarded 'by definition' (pictures, police report, insurance form). As it's an apparent contradiction to the facts! Presumably, a person will not be judged to pay a fee if s/he is not guilty, doesn't s/he? The worst thing is, that when we tried to appeal to the headquarters company in the US, they didn't intervene but just concluded, that the "Local office you rented the car claims that it's your fault'. That's it. They charge the credit card and no way that they find you 'clear off'. This is a way to force a customer to pay 'full coverage' just in case. It's a trick. Be careful!
On Friday June 9th, went to Hertz counter to pay for rental and they refused to accept my credit card because it said PayPal on the card. This is NOT a pre-paid PayPal card, just a standard mastercard that's also linked to my paypal account. A card which I had USED BEFORE at Hertz and was saved in my GOLD PROFILE from previous uses. They also had a list of other credit cards they'd refuse to accept. So beware that just because you have a valid form of payment that you have used before with Hertz, they may not choose to accept it.
We escalated to 2 levels of management and they basically told us to F off and rent somewhere else. The only positive thing I'll say is that the local manager Mark tried to help us out, but corporate management refused.
On May 2,2022, I rented a car at Austin-Bergstrom Airport. My 85-yeard-old mom had fallen at a family event and was taken to the Trauma unit at St. David's South hospital in Austin Texas. My husband returned the original car we had for the weekend and I rented one for myself since I stayed longer to assist with my mom's care.
Since I did not know how long I would be there, I could not provide a length for rental to the agent. She told me that she would put down "one week" but that I could return it earlier and be charged for the days I used it.
I returned the car on May 4,2022. Upon receiving the receipt, I was charged for one whole week at a rate of $786.57. Since this ended up being the charge for just two days, I filed a dispute with my credit card company who went to bat for me. I did not expect to be charged for more than the days I used it.
As it turns out, the final negotiated amount came to $561.33. This is a reduction in charges of $224.33. However, this is still a very high amount for just two days.
I was never able to get ahold of anyone at Hertz by phone and received only an invoice with the adjusted amount. I'd like to say that I'll never rent from Hertz again, but maybe they don't care and it won't make a difference.
Be careful out there when dealing with Hertz rental.
We returned our car 3 weeks ago. We paid $15 for gas (which we expected) and were told we would get a bill for the tolls we used. I noticed a charge on my credit card for $40 saying "Hertz toll fees". I never got a bill, invoice, NOTHING! I'm just supposed to believe I spent that much on tolls (WHEN I KNOW I DIDN'T) and let them take whatever amount they want from my credit card. I called them and none of the Hertz employees could (WOULD) help. They said it's a separate company that does the tolls... THEN WHY DOES IT SAY HERTZ? I asked for a supervisor. Of course, none were available. One was supposed to call me back, but I still haven't heard from anyone. If I owe tolls, no problem, I will pay them but how can they take money without (1) giving me a bill and (2) getting my permission? Oh. And I found out there's a $30 admin fee and $4.95/day of your rental (up to $24.75). So, that doesn't even make sense. We had this car for over 2 months (airbag recall) so that would be over $50 in their fees... I'm BEYOND mad. I can't believe a company just takes money like this!
We asked for an SUV with enough room for 4 people and luggage - when we arrived the vehicle couldn't hold 2 suitcases so we had to 'upgrade' which of course cost us double. There was trash in the car and zero windshield wiper fluid - for a road trip this is quite important! When we told them after returning the car we were told that we needed to tell them immediately so they could meet us and rectify the problem - how about NOT! We were on vacation travelling through AZ, UT and WY not taking the time to meet up with them to get windshield wiper fluid! Of course there wasn't a gas station in sight and had to deal with a million dead bugs as our view for a couple of days - to get that response added insult to injury - I will NOT be using Hertz again.
We went to see my brother in law and family, my brother in law is VERY sick. We needed a car rental, so we made a reservation to pick up in Fayetteville, Saturday, July 3rd.We arrived 15 mins after the time we were supposed to be there. The lady was still there, but REFUSED to clock back in to give us the rental, even though she was cleaning a car. I will DEFINITELY let EVERYONE I know, that Hertz employees have NO compassion whatsoever, shame on them! This will probably be the last time my husband gets to see his brother! Thank you for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, EXCEPT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Lisa Chevalier
I travel a lot, and I've used multiple car rental companies over the years, so far I've had the worst experience with Hertz. I booked mine from one of the airports in Florida. First, while I was waiting in line, one of their customers came very unhappy trying to exchanging the car because the one he got the previous day broke down, and had to be towed away. Then, I finally got my rental, which went OK, after whole bunch of extra charges it was supposed to be close to $150 per day (for a small suv). I got stuck in traffic the next day when returning it, and was 20 min late (meaning 20 min after 24hours), So, I was charged another day of rental, even though I was told that they will only charge for an extra day if I was over an hour late. So, I was sure, I would not be charged any extra fees, until I checked my credit card charge. When, I called to speak with someone and tried to dispute extra charges, I was getting different information from different staff contradicting themselves about timing regulations. Of course I could not get any charges disputed, and ended up paying close to $300 for a day of car rental.
Felt like a scam. Do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else.
I rented a car to go from Fort Wayne In to Lexington Ky. The car broke down 2 hours after picking it up. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get a hold of roadside assistance. The came got the car and took it ot their garage in Indianapolis! The Fort Wayne Hertz employees told me that the only way to get another is to have brought the key to the broke down one back, really why would I keep the key? Anyway they proceeded to charge my credit card EVERYDAY for 15 DAYS even though they had possession of their car back. Good thing my credit card company blocked all the charges because the customer serivce at HERTZ IS HORRIBLE! I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!
Answer: Unfortunately scam is a kind of normal for hertz.com
Answer: ENTERPRISE! Go there, they have way better rates and won't screw you over.
