“Just the motivation I needed”

Alexandra F.
1/13/24

I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with HealthyWage. I tried to lose weight for many years without any long-term success. Betting on myself was the motivation I needed to finally meet my weight loss goals and make a sustainable lifestyle change. I lost over 90 pounds and won nearly $10,000. The investment I made paid off in so many more ways than one.

“HealthyWage Weight Review Is a Scam”

Sarah I.

I have paid healthywage for over a year and every time I send them a weight loss video they find something wrong with it. The first video they said my feet were not level and now my most recent video they said I didn't do the side by side view as evidence. Instead of letting me submit a new video they are requiring me to do my verification via zoom. Which is fine but they are giving me a specific window to do so. I am giving them a time for a zoom meeting but I have a suspicion this won't be good enough and they will find a way to keep my money. Watch out, they won't follow through with payment.

HealthyWage is NOT a scam. We paid out over $7.6 million dollars to winners in 2023 alone! Our Referee Team is obligated to ensure compliance with HealthyWage Policies and to review and certify the results of the HealthyWager Challenge. We were really excited to see her come through again as a possible winner on December 18,2023. When we completed the review on December 19, we did have to contact her again as the video had a missing step, making it non-compliant with the steps required by HealthyWage. In order to speed up the verification process with the holidays, we provided the ability to complete the Zoom verification so we could get what was needed quickly and she could enjoy her holidays. She was provided a long period of dates and times to complete this Zoom. HealthyWage was not contacted again until January 1,2024, 13 days after HealthyWage had initially reached out to set this up and 3 days past the deadline provided. As the window passed, the challenge closed. HealthyWage provided a courtesy to Buy More Time even though the end date had passed, but we have not heard back from this participant.

I'm just disgusted that Heathywage couldn't find some kind of way to help out when so many people are struggling to support their families. Their email to me basically said that I don't have a choice but to pay. MANY companies opted to waive fees, cancel memberships, or even contribute to those in need. Healthywage is not one of them. I did what I had to do to stop the automatic payments. Bad debt vs food for my family. Which would you choose?

Hi Jayna,
With all our challenges being 100% online and through our mobile app, there hasn't been a need to cancel them as they're still running as usual. In fact, a lot of our participants have told us they're happy HealthyWage isn't automatically canceling nor postponing their challenges because it's helped them stay on track during this time and they're looking forward to winning their cash prize. The reason we don't allow cancellations is because it's a crucial aspect of the service we provide with helping you stay accountable and committed to achieving your goal, which would diminish the point of the program if you could simply quit. For participants who need to discuss their specific situation, our support team does respond to every email and works diligently in addressing and helping each participant who reaches out to us. We checked and don't see that you reached out to us regarding your challenge -- the screenshot you provided is from our automated payment reminder. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact our support team at info@healthywage.com.

So I joined to this joke of healthy wage. First of all, if you made the mistake to join, you better be prepare to loose the weight or the money cause there is not cancellation to it. Second, if you also made the mistake to joint to the challenge you would not make much. This challenges are base on a pot, which means you share the price among the winners, not without the HealthyWage company taking their share first. Said that, I entered into a pot where the entry money was $100. I won and I ended making 12 dollar approximately. Then there was another pot challenge where a made 8 dollars and you gotta take PayPal fees a as well so less that 8 dollars. Seriously?. Such as scam, and shame of Jillian Michaels on supporting this scammers. Of course you will loose the weight because you won't like to loose the money. But is this really a healthy formation of habits? I don't think so.

Hi, Jenn and congratulations on your weight loss success so far with winning two of our Fast Track challenges, including a 15% profit! Unlike our individual HealthyWager weight loss challenge where the prize (up to $10,000!) is all for you, our Jackpot and Fast Track challenge prizes are equally split amongst successful participants in each challenge, so the profit amount varies for each challenge depending on the number of winners. Our "no-lose guarantee" ensures that if you achieve the goal, you'll always win back at least your registration fee. Regarding the PayPal fee, we do disclose that there may be a potential fee processed from PayPal, but do not have control over the amounts charged. You are welcome to request a check for a flat $7 fee for any winnings, apply them towards current installments, or join new challenges to increase your profit further while you work to reach your personal goals. If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to our support team at info@healthywage.com and they'll be happy to help you!

Their rules about reimbursement need to be more clear. Rules indicate a participant will have 6 months after the challenge end to lose 10% to get their entry fee reimbursed if they don't do it during the challenge. It nowhere states that even if you lose the 10% you still have to wait to weigh in 6 months later. They do this in hopes people will forget and they can keep the money. Shady business model!

Tip for consumers:
Know that a 3 month challenge is actually a 9 month challenge.

Participants in our $10,000 Team Challenge compete to win huge cash prizes ($10,000 for 1st; $5,000 for 2nd; $3,000 for 3rd) and, if they don't win a grand prize, qualify for a full reimbursement of their entry fee if they lose 10% of their weight 9-months after the start of the challenge. We've successfully processed thousands of reimbursements for the Team Challenge.

The dates for the reimbursement were featured prominently in the participants' dashboard the entire challenge. Our rules, which are pasted below, make it very clear you must wait until the end of the 9-month period to claim your reimbursement:

"Participants who achieve a 10% weight loss 9 months after the challenge start and upload or submit a verification video during the designated verification window are eligible to receive a refund of their challenge entry fees."

We congratulate this participant on his success during the 12-week challenge and look forward to sending him his refund check in October, when he demonstrates he has maintained a 10% loss.

I signed up for HealthyWage and participated in at least a dozen challenges along the way. I was forced to videotape myself in front of a full-length mirror, go into the next room where I had a hard surface and could videotape myself on the scale and then proceed back into the room with the mirror since all of the rooms in my house with a full length mirror include carpeting and I live alone. This proved to be no issue for every single challenge that I've participated in, however, when it came time for the final way in (with the largest payback), they refused to accept my video because of the method in which I had to record myself. I'm out almost $1,600 because they decided that the method I had followed all along was suddenly "suspicious". If you ask me, their behavior is what is suspicious. I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone.

Tip for consumers:
Simply don’t do it. Find another method to lose weight.

With over $13 million paid out in 2020 alone, our team reviews and certifies new winners everyday. We take our winner verification process very seriously and fortunately, the percentage of participants we've had to ask to resubmit a second weigh-out verification to prove their weight loss is legit is extremely small (less than 1%). We understand the majority of what we may come across in a video may be unintentional, such as grabbing onto a chair for balance, which is why we do provide our members the opportunity to resubmit to still be eligible to win their challenge. We do not force anyone to do anything. We recommend participants submit their verified weight through our app as it's a quick and easy process that involves them submitting a 30-second video of stepping on and off the scale to confirm their weight.

This participant's most recent video verification was different from previous ones submitted and displayed suspicious practices. After our verifier team confirmed it was a non-compliant verification, we immediately contacted her. We have also provided images of the differences in her verification videos with an explanation of why this most recent one was flagged. To allow her the opportunity to still win her prize, we requested a second verification to prove her weight loss and even gave her an extension to do so. She has refused to submit a second verification and therefore we cannot confirm her win.

You do all they ask but you still lose all your money. It is not worth the stress and the waste of money. They find anything wrong with your finally weigh in and it just not there. Basically they rip off the ones that have small wagers to pay out the big ones to make themselves look good.
The stress form the final weigh in causer to develop an ulcer. Better off keeping your money.

Hi, Shannon. HealthyWage is not a rip off and in fact, has paid out over $6.3M to winners who have lost over 445,500 pounds in 2022 so far (and still counting!). While HealthyWage doesn't request second weigh-out verifications often, there are however, instances like yours where the weigh-out video did not follow our guidelines clearly specified in our FAQs, Rules, and in the step-by-step weigh-out video you conducted.

Our team has and is still working with you to give you an opportunity to win your challenge, as we've stated in our email correspondence with you. You are more than welcomed to comply with our request for a second verification through December 18,2022, which would give the opportunity to win your challenge and cash prize! Please reply to our email sent by our participant support for any questions and/or to move forward with your verification to confirm your challenge win. For more information on submitting verified weigh-ins with HealthyWage, please check out our Weigh-In Rules at https://www.healthywage.com/challenges/verified-weigh-in-rules.

Healthy Wage sent out an email inviting users to sign up for a healthy wager bet-the large individual bet, even if you had gained weight back from your last bet. They typically call this the yo-yo rule. They allowed users to sign up for the bet, collected our payments- and then cancelled anyone who had already succeeded. This is breaking their contract as well as an extremely poor business practice. Instead of responding, they have blocked everyone from their social media and sent emails that they appealed our decisions for us and there is nothing that can be done. They sat on thousand of dollars before refunding & were able to collect a lot of money in interest. This seems highly unethical- if not completely illegal.

Sorry that you feel that way. It looks like you've gotten paid more than $2,000 from HealthyWage. We cancelled your most recent challenge due to health reasons, you gained too much weight too quickly in between challenges. Our first responsibility is to make sure weight loss is healthy. You were fully refunded and may be eligible to participate again in the future after more time passes after your challenge.

Its a nice idea but, once you set it up and pay up, you get zero support / prompts / advice from them. No reminders, no emails. I missed my goal - partly because COVID gave me an excuse to lose momentum and partly because the "goal" was just too distant and abstract to influence my day-to-day decisions without any other support. Thats on me of course. But my rating reflects that it didn't work for me, and if it was really about weight loss (and not just money) there'd be better communications.

I noticed they are also now closed to any new UK registrations - no idea why.

Hi Jamie,
While our main purpose is to facilitate your bet so you can focus on your nutrition and activity, we do provide support through your challenge dashboard. This includes a progress tracker that is updated each time you submit an unverified weigh-in, displaying your challenge timeline of your current weight, where you should be in order to meet your goal, and how much time and weight you have left till your challenge completes. There is also a participant forum where challengers share and gain healthy tips, motivate one another, and can seek advice from our HealthyWage coach, who is there to provide additional support and answer any questions.

In addition, participants in the UK (and all other eligible countries) are able to sign up via our US site at www.healthywage.com.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our support team at info@healthywage.com.

This company is a complete scam. They had no problem taking 100 dollars from my account every month for 6 months. I hit my goal. When it came time for them to pay me my winnings, they wanted me to jump through all these extra hoops before paying me out. It became clear they never planned on paying me! I did the weigh out that was required. I then had to take off for Japan for a business trip. They sent me an email requiring an additional weigh in and 10 extra steps that was everything short of the hokie pokie. I told them I could not, as I was on business in a different country. I attempted multiple times to come to a fair agreement, they said if I did not weigh in with in 3 days I would forfeit everything. Although I already lost the weight and completed their weigh out procedure! I then said, I don't even want the winnings at this point, at the very least I want my money back, to which they refused. This company ripped me off for $600! I am looking into legal action now. Do NOT use this company unless you want your money stolen!

Hi Jared,
HealthyWage is not a scam and completely legit, which you can confirm as you won $1,000 for winning your previous HealthyWager challenge in 2020. While it's rare we ask our participants to resubmit their weigh-out videos, sometimes we are required to do so if there are any discrepancies or issues with a participant's submission. Regarding your most recent challenge, our referee team reached out to you within 2 days and requested a second weigh-out submission - even extending the deadline to give you more time. In your response, you declined and demanded a refund. If you change your decision about re-submitting, we would be more than happy to review to confirm your win. Our goal is to help you successfully lose weight in a healthy manner and win your challenge!

They don't have anyone you can talk to on the phone with an issue. They do everything they can to keep you from winning the money and adjust if you've won in the past (although the conveniently don't check beforehand, only after you paid your money in). Avoid them and use another company!

Hi, Tara. Our customer support is available via both email and phone. We are disappointed to hear your frustration in your prize, as we are extremely transparent in our FAQs and Rules regarding our “Yo-Yo Rule,” and wish that we had been contacted with any questions or concerns prior to your creation of a new account with a new email address and name. You previously found success with HealthyWage winning a prize of $1,386.16 for losing an impressive 30 pounds in 6 months under your original account. Our successful participants who document a weight gain since their previous HealthyWager win that register under the same email address, as our FAQs and Rules state, are quoted the correct prize prior to signing up as it is a separate prize structure. Our mission is to provide motivation and accountability in helping our participants in their journey, in addition to encouraging healthy habits and weight maintenance.

This company is just one step above being a scam in my opinion. They fill people with false hope that money can motivate them to lose weight. In few cases, it can. They advertise paying out $10 million to people who have won their bets. Thats great, but at the end of the day WAYYY more are losing. This company is making a KILLING betting on peoples failure and 90 percent of the time, they win. Don't take those odds. Don't pay these people for no reason. Also, YOU CAN NOT CANCEL. Let me say it again, YOU CAN NOT CANCEL REGARDLESS OF FINANCIAL HARDSHIP OR INJURY. If you get injured they will only pause your account and it may not even get approved to be paused. There is NO cancelling. Healthy wage "the company that cares so much about people" will threaten to send your account to collections if you remove your card from the service. Do yourself a favor. Lose weight on your own terms on your own time and don't throw away your money! I have lost more weight than ever and am way happier than when I tossed away hundreds to these crooks.

HealthyWage is 100% legit and has paid out OVER $55 Million to winners since 2009 and more than $2.3 Million and counting in just 2023 alone. Generally, we do not allow cancellations, which we are extremely transparent about in our FAQs and T&Cs as it's important part of the service we provide is helping you avoid quitting, which would be undermined if you could simply cancel. Our finance team does have a few exceptions to pause, such as if you’re pregnant, or have a medical condition/injury. Our amazing support team works endlessly to help accommodate each participant in need. HealthyWage is a service where you bid money for a weight loss challenge. You put in some money, and when you lose the weight, you get that money back plus a small sum above that. If you don't hit your goal, you lose everything. I joined Healthy Wage in October-November 2020 with the idea that the company was here to help encourage me to lose weight. I thought it was a great idea and a great motivator. And I was happy that this company was trying to do something good in the world. So I invested $2,000 into the program - a hefty sum under any circumstance. A few weeks into my challenge I broke my foot and had to have surgery. The surgeon said that the surgery was pretty straightforward and he would have be back to exercising in 4-6 weeks. With 5 months left in the challenge, I thought I could recover and still lose my target weight within the remaining time. However there were complications, my foot started to have massive pain. Despite that, I began working out again and attempting to continue the challenge. When the pain got too unbearable, I went back to my surgeon who determined that I require another surgery to fix the pain. At this point in time, I contacted a guy who called himself "Joe Smith" (definitely not this guys name) and asked him if I can cancel my program and they can return the money or can I extend it so that I would be able to recover and have a chance of getting my money back. I even supplied them with a doctor's note which explained the situation I am in. In both cases, I got a horrible response. They were willing to cancel my program but refused to even offer a partial reimbursement. And yes they were able to extend the challenge, but for only 3 weeks. There would be no way for me to lose 6 months with of weight in 3 weeks which means I would lose my money in this scenario well. This is insane. For a company who is supposedly designed to help people, all they are doing is hurting people and stealing their money. This is a SCAM and should be investigated by the Better Business Bureau. Shame on these guys for preying on people who need help.

Hi David,
HealthyWage is not a scam and in 2020 alone, we paid out more than $13.6M to winners (who lost over 860,000 pounds).

On November 1,2020 you wagered that you would lose 25lbs in 6 months. If successful, you would win $2,120. You advise you experienced an injury in November, but this was not reported to us at the time. Instead, as you explain in your review, you elected to continue your 6-month challenge in order to achieve your goal. You did not contact HealthyWage about your injury until April 13,2021 (19 days before the end of your 6 month challenge) when you indicated you were you not going to reach your goal and requested accommodation. Choosing to continue your challenge and then waiting until the end to request special accommodation does reduce the amount of options we have to assist you. Regardless of this, our representative Joe (which is his real name – he’s worked for HealthyWage for 7 years) provided details of our medical hiatus option. He even spoke with you on the phone, trying to work out a solution to help you.

Our mission is to help our participants achieve their health and weight loss goals, and support them in obtaining healthier lives. Please visit our FAQs for more information on how the HealthyWager works and what to do in the event of a medical injury at www.healthywage.com/healthywager/faq.

HealthyWage has helped thousands of individuals achieve their personal health and wellness goals, including this reviewer who previously won a cash prize of over $863 with us in July of 2022. This reviewer registered for a new challenge in February 2023 using his previous email, and then signed up for another challenge moments later using a typo'd email address. Our Participant Support reached out and notified him of his typo'd registration, and that the challenge was being cancelled and refunded (as our participants may only hold one account). The Participant Support also confirmed the registration under his primary/correct email address would remain unchanged and that he will still be eligible to win his prize. We didn't receive any additional communication from this individual nor requests to cancel his active challenge, which is why we're confused as to why he's making false allegations and claims against our company.

£600 and 6 months of consistent and steady weight loss to achieve my final goal after, I saw NO MONEY BACK from this company. Do not trust with your hard earned money. My weight goal was achieved, all necessary proof of that was sent to them and they still refused to send me my money back for my win. Utterly fraudulent and unethical business practice. Although it may sound like a great way to lose weight, if you happen to get your money back, it's probably more because of luck than actual results, so be aware of that before signing up for this fraudulent company. I am frankly disgusted by the way they run this business. After I tried to make the other members of their community aware of my experience, they blocked my account and deleted my post. WITHOUT returning my money back of course. Very transparent business practice as you can see. DO NOT TRUST. The money you see in the picture has never been returned to me, even after achieving my weight goal.

Our team flagged this account for suspicious activity. When we asked to arrange a confirmation weigh-out, the participant refused to cooperate. Getting paid is easy (we’ve paid out more than $10M this year alone), but your weight loss has to be honest! We do not take cheating lightly.

Verified purchase

My partner had started a healthy wage challenge and sent me a link worth an extra prize amount totaling $140 if I signed up for a new challenge as well. So I signed up. I never would have signed up if not for the bonus "boost" money because the prize amount was initially to low to be worth it in my opinion. Then once I paid my challenge fees I noticed they did not apply either of our prize boosts. We both emailed Healthywage and complained but they claimed we were ineligible because we have done a challenge before. No where on the details page of the bonus link did it mention that... and now they refuse to refund and cancel my transaction. SCAM!

Update 02/18/21
After reading my review here on Sitejabber the Healthywage team finally decided to acknowledge my request for a refund. They refused to even respond to my refund inquiries the first two times I asked but apparently if you publicly call them out on this website they become more receptive and a lot less hostile. I settled for a partial boost.

In response to the comment made by Healthywage: your terms are extremely unclear, a person has to dig through the site and the fine print to find it. Have better customer service and business ethics and post that information on the main page of the boost where it will actually be seen by people. And stop sending people emails for boosts that they are not eligible for. I received an email for this same boost a day after posting on this site about you not giving me the boost. Shady as F.

Tip for consumers:
The first time you use Healthywage it seem too good to be true... that’s because it is.

HealthyWage is not a scam and has been successfully paying winners every year since 2009, with over $13.6M in 2020 alone. We offer an amazing referral program where both the referrer and referee get compensated; however, as stated in our Referral FAQs, we do not compensate for referring existing HealthyWage customers: "Referral boosts accepted by fake or duplicate accounts, repeat participants, or accounts that have been cancelled or gone into delinquency will be removed from both the sender’s and recipient’s accounts." You were not eligible for the referral boost because your partner had already successfully referred you in 2019 when you participated in your first HealthyWager challenge. The rule against referring existing customers is neither unclear nor uncommon; most businesses have this rule, as far as we are aware. For more information on our referral program, please visit our Referral FAQs at www.healthywage.com/healthywager/referral-faqs. While we did agree to cancel and refund your challenge, you decided to continue with a $40 boost (same as the referral amount) that you were eligible for. We would appreciate it if you would update this review! Thank you.

This company is a rip off. They fool you into thinking They will charge you 15.00 a month without permission even after you cancel. I and my family have been sick from Corona Virus and have been impacted heavily by the virus. I live in New York and prices have sky rocketed and we need that money. Anyway, because of sickness and forgetting I have been charged $15.00 every month since January 2021 till now and the person from Healthy Wage had no supervisor that I could talk to. Anyway, I lost my money and I am told that they are going charge me 5 more times. I wish I hadn't agreed to it. So please don't do it. I lost all my weight from alternate fasting. It works for me so you might want to make a contract with yourself and put $15.00 in your savings account for 18 months than give it to this heartless company who even in these unprecedented times of Corona and simply don't care about anyone or anything except their bottom line profits. Just don't do it. Healthywager is a cruel heartless company.

Hi, Maria. HealthyWage is not a rip-off. We don't nor are able to charge payments without the participants' knowledge nor consent. In addition, we don't see any correspondence with you regarding your challenge. With our HealthyWager, the individual weight loss challenge where you can win up to $10,000, you customize your challenge and decide how much weight you want to lose, how long you want to lose it in, and how much money you want to wager on yourself for the duration of your challenge. Even if you meet the 6% weight loss goal you will lose your money. I am terribly disappointed. If the team did not win, I should at least have gotten my money back while my non-performing team mates (who I have never met) lost theirs.

Hi Marina, we're sorry you did not have a good experience with the team Jackpot Challenge as it can be a fun and effective way to losing weight and getting healthy. Per our FAQs (https://www.healthywage.com/faq/jackpot-challenge/), we clearly state that your team must achieve an average weight loss of 6% or more in order to win, and provide up-to-date stats in your challenge dashboard so you're able to see how your teammates are doing throughout the challenge. We also offer individual Jackpot Challenges where you're automatically a winner if you achieve a personal weight loss of 6% or more. You can view them as well as our other challenges at https://www.healthywage.com/challenges/directory.

Recently, due to the global pandemic which includes gym closures, loss of wages, etc, I have been trying to cancel my $100/month bet, with 5 months left to go. In these uncertain times, I'm not even sure what 5 months would look like from now, and it leaves me frustrated and with bad taste.

I was going to cancel and then come back when the pandemic blows over (because it was a really great idea that motivated me to lose!) but with the disappointing way Healthywage has handled this, I don't think I would ever come back.

From the start of COVID-19, I expected to receive an email from them, like literally every single company (Jimmy Johns, anyone?) stating a clause that would help users during the financial hardships. 22 MILLION Americans have since been unemployed from the virus, which is not at all an insignificant amount of the US population. HealthyWage's narrow mindset and unwillingness to help out its userbase will only alienate its prospective participants.

I am so very disappointed in HealthyWage, a program that I was VERY excited to be a part of. They have shown that their bottom line is... well, their bottom line, with no humanity, especially during these trying times.

Hi Michelle,
We generally do not allow cancelations because it’s an important part of our service we provide in helping you avoid quitting, which would be undermined if you could simply cancel. In fact, we’ve had a lot of participants tell us they’re grateful HealthyWage isn’t automatically postponing nor canceling their challenges because they’re looking forward to achieving their weight loss goal and winning their cash prize. For participants who have been affected by COVID-19, our support and accounting teams have been working with them individually. We see you contacted our accounting department, but unfortunately posted this review before giving them a chance to respond. They will be responding to you directly via your open ticket to discuss your challenge options.

I was super skeptical when starting with HealthyWage but I won $2,500 and lost 50lbs my first time around. I still had weight to lose so I entered a second (technically 3rd) bet, which just came to a close. I was notified I won and was eagerly awaiting payment. With COVID and lack of work I was really relying on that pay out to make it through this holiday season. Not to mention I busted my $#*! to better myself and win that money. I earned it fair and square.

They notified me in a very vague email that my bet had been cancelled. I emailed back and forth a couple of times and it turns out that because of the "yoyo rule" they would not be paying me out but would "do me a favor" and refund my initial investment. 2 problems with this: First, I had over a year and a failed bet in between this bet so in theory, there was no yoyo-ing. But for arguments sake, I was unaware of this rule and it was the responsibility of whomever verified my weight in at the beginning of the bet to catch this, not me. According to their rules you can still compete but your starting weight should be altered to your ending weight from the last bet. No one did this so I was not given the opportunity to possibly still win my bet. I had no idea there was an issue until the bet was over. I should not be held responsible or penalized for one of their employees messing up.

Not only was I not paid out but only 3 of my 9 payments were refunded to me and now they have stopped responding to my emails so not only have they scammed me but have essentially stolen money from me. And based on the reviews I've read they always seem to find a loophole to not allow you to win twice.

Hi JY,
Thanks for your comments. I understand that you won and were paid $2,445 with your first HealthyWager in 2019 and now the misunderstanding is with a subsequent HealthyWager made in 2020. Your starting weight for the 2020 challenge was above your previous winning weight in 2019, which is not permitted. Our one and only rule for subsequent HealthyWagers is you cannot get paid to lose the same weight twice. (But note we are looking for ways to offer prizes to winners who gain back some of their weight and want to do a subsequent challenge.)

Since you were not eligible, we refunded your wager (all 9 installments) in full on November 24,2020 to the two separate credits cards used to make payments. Please check both credit card statements to confirm these refunds. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your refund, please contact us at info@healthywage.com and we will be able to assist you.

This company is unbelievable.
Who ever heard of having to Keep Paying for something you Never Even Used nor plan on using nor want to use? There is no service- you dont sign a contract- you just sign up for what is basically a subscription you Can Never cancel! I made my first payment- never even weighed in and even emailed 2x to cancel and not to charge my card again in the future and they did. So it looks like I'm just gonna keep paying these people for the next 12 months, whether I do anything or not. The way see I it, it's a killer scam for the most part. These guys must be making money hand over fist. It just amazes me the way some company's take and take and take. Its stupid- my weight is perfectly fine for my height and age- I signed up on a whim on a day i was feeling fat and now I'm not to worried about it. But I guess I better get on the ball and start losing unnecessary weight so I dont feel so stupid they're gonna keep taking my money. Hope I dont get sick or whatever.

We feel bad that you seem stressed out, but we don't understand why you made these unkind remarks. We looked into your account. It looks like we promptly responded to your request for a refund and let you know how to request an exception to our no refunds policy, but you did not make that request. Instead, you wrote the below review, which contains statements that are false and also not very nice.

You used our service by making a weight loss bet, which obligates us to pay you the prize if you achieve your goal. You decided to pay your bet in 18 monthly installments rather than all-at-once. We allow you to pay installments as a convenience to you (we do not charge interest or fees for the installment plan). The installments automatically stop when you've paid what you agreed to pay. They do not just go on and on (there is no "subscription"). And if you achieve your goal, we pay you your prize -- we can’t cancel or get out of it. The service which you paid for and received is our legal obligation to pay you your prize if you achieve your goal. We're on the hook. Likewise, you can't get your bet back or cancel an installment plan. There are exceptions, as we explained by email, and we told you how to request an exception. Your statement that this is a scam is false.

What a scam. You don't win crap other than your own money back. You can win up to $10,000!... as long as you bet $9,800 on yourself. In other words, if you want to sign up for a forced savings plan where the likelihood of losing all your money is high, and if you do happen to win, you get taxed to the point that the actual portion that you do win is completely nullified, then go ahead and go for it! You can do it! The last 20 years of not being able to lose weight is completely going to change, if they pay you $200 to do it! Ha!

Totally false advertising when the total prize money that they quote includes returning your own monthly contribution. If they presented it honestly it would only show the amount that you actually win, over your personal monthly contributions, but then no one would buy into the scam.

HealthyWage paid over $13 million in prizes to over 30,000 people in 2019 alone. We are not a scam. Wager terms are determined by the participant before registering and ROI can range anywhere from 11% to 300% based on a number of personal factors. The heavier you are, the larger your prize. We encourage you to play with the calculator as many times as you'd like to find the right combination for you. We do not tax winnings and only issue a 1099 when required by the IRS, as all reputable organizations do. It’s ok if HealthyWage isn’t right for you, but it has been life changing for so many. Best of luck to you.

When I found out I have a medical issue and then I had a gym closure, I tried to reason with this company. I asked for them to simply cancel my challenge. I told them I was upset that I had to ask for this especially in light of all that is occurring in the world but I hoped that because of my issue, they would help me out. I stated to them that I would sign up for a new challenge once life is back in the swing. First, they responded without even reading my first email. My second email went unanswered. My third email when I was now upset and said I no longer wanted to work with a company such as this that claim they are a "healthy" wage site but their CSRs know nothing about the science behind medical conditions and weight loss and fluff you off like you are not to be considered. They again said they would push my challenge back. I reported to the BBB. All I get is that they CLAIM they have worked extensively with me (no) and that they have an offer on the table (not one that I accept, obviously, because I am now moving toward mediation) and that's all they say to the BBB. And, had they at least RESPONDED to my personal concern about my personal situation, I would consider and offer but even after reporting to BBB NEVER ONCE A SORRY for misunderstanding, or taking my situation lightly. NOTHING. Just that they are great and they have worked extensively with me to help me. Lies.

Hi El,
The reason we do not allow cancelations is because it’s a crucial aspect of the service we provide with helping you stay accountable and committed to achieving your goal, which would diminish the point of the program if you could simply quit. We’ve had many participants tell us they’re happy HealthyWage isn’t automatically postponing nor canceling their challenges because they’re looking forward to achieving their weight loss goal and winning their cash prize. For participants who need to make a change with their challenge, our support team does respond to every email and works diligently in addressing and helping each participant who reaches out to us. We see that you’ve been in contact with our support team and that both your tickets were reviewed and replied to, which included several options regarding your challenge. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact our support team at info@healthywage.com.

The company has done nothing to pro-actively address how the global pandemic is impacting customers. If you reach out they offer you can pay money to extend ($100 for every month) but they will not add to the prize amount, or you can pause for three months but if you lose any weight at all during that three months you lose the whole thing. They let me know that exercise is not necessary for significant weight loss. Their VP of finance also took the time to let me know that she considered the 25lbs I lost had lost to date was "not very much". I had felt rather proud of that weight loss, I guess I was wrong.

It's disheartening to see a company that alleges to want to support people in reaching their goals show themselves to be only concerned with themselves, even at a time of global crisis, even for those people living in the epicenter of the crisis.

I will be reporting them to the NYAG office, I encourage others with similar experiences to do the same. The NYAG office has taken several actions against companies who are refusing to accommodate during the pandemic, including ordering them to make massive refunds.

Update: After several weeks of escalating my complaints to the leadership of the company, they finally offered a three month extension at no cost. Please note, it took several weeks of making complaints and then posting this negative review and threatening to file a complaint with the NY State AG for them to accommodate me.

Hi Caroline,
Even though we are a smaller company navigating an unprecedented situation and all our challenges have continued without interruption due to being 100% online, we have and continue to work diligently with our participants who have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis. We offered you several options, one of which you accepted, so we’re confused as to why you would unfairly say we aren’t helping our participants.

In fact, many of our participants who told us they’re glad we’re not cancelling or postponing their challenges because they worked hard to achieve their weight loss goal and win their huge cash prize. During this time, we have kept our challenges running and paid all our winners as promised.

Please know that no one on our team has or would ever criticize your weight loss efforts. We care greatly about the health and well-being of our participants and are here to support all of you.

We participated in a Healthwage challenge and despite being in the top 3 teams every week, 4 teams showed up the LAST week and took all the prize money. THIS IS A SCAM DO NOT USE! If I could file a legal complaint I would, but their rules are air tight. We did all the right things and they didn't care. We even used a paid trainer, tracked our weights every week and was the highest team to lose weight and we still didn't win. SCAM SCAM SCAM!

HealthyWage is NOT a scam. Erin, you participated in a $10,000 team challenge. For that challenge format, the top three teams each win a major cash prize, and your team was not in the top three.

The teams that ranked higher than your team worked really hard too -- they just didn't weigh-in as often as your team, so you didn't realize how close the competition really was. As a rough analogy, if this was a football game, it seems like you would be saying that you were in the lead the whole game, but at the end, the other team made a big comeback and won. Is that upsetting? For sure! But is it unfair? Absolutely not! It's that nature of competition.

Your statement that HealthyWage doesn't care is way off base. Of course we care -- very much! We are sorry you didn't enjoy the experience. You might want to try our personal HealthyWager, where you are not competing against other people. Every individual that achieves his/her chosen goal in his/her chosen timeframe is guaranteed to receive his/her prize. You don't have to worry about how well the other people do. If you are still on your weight loss journey, you might want to check out that option.
