Claim Your BusinessI lost my keys and needed to have my remotes synced to get them to work properly. Everyone I dealt with at the dealership was very helpful and bent over backwards to see that I was happy with the service. All remote processes work properly now. I can always count on the crew at Gurnee Hyundai to get the job done right!
Short version: Get the car you're looking at someplace else. The low prices online do NOT include reconditioning fees (which was $3,000 for a used car less than a year old). You can get the same car at another dealership for the same ultimate price or less. Long version: I reached out via their website to express interest in a gently used 2019 Mazda CX-5 and emailed back and forth with Daniel from sales support all day Monday. I live in Indiana 2.5 hours away so I asked my brother who lives in Chicago to check it out for me before I spent the time and money to go up myself. He had the day off on Wednesday so he agreed to do it. Daniel said that would be fine and made an appointment for him to meet with a salesman and see it on Wednesday. My brother gets there and no one is aware of the appointment, they give him a bunch of grief about why I'm not there looking at it myself, and don't even offer to bring the vehicle out for him to look at until he threatens to leave and tell me to buy the car somewhere else. I call the dealership Thursday and speak to Roger in sales who promises to keep an extra close eye on the vehicle until I can get there Friday night. He also says he'll email me his contact info so I can reach him directly. That email never came. I call back Friday to tell him I won't make it there that night after getting out of work late and ask if there has been any interest in the vehicle. He says he'll ask the other sales people and call me right back. He never does. So I call back again and tell him I'll be there Saturday. Of note, in the first email from Daniel in sales support he states the vehicle was "still in stock and ready for immediate delivery!" However, I was later informed they don't ship cars unless it's much farther than a neighboring state and that I'd have to find a third party myself to transport it. Maybe that's standard practice, but I would think if they don't ship cars themselves they shouldn't be making claims like "ready for immediate delivery!" Sure would have saved me a LOT of trouble I traded in my 2008 Acura MDX with quite a few miles on it but zero accidents. Cars.com, CarFax, KBB, Edmunds, and NADA all reported my vehicle had a trade in value of $2,800-$5,700 after taking into consideration those miles. Gurnee Hyundai offered me $1,500 I ask Matt, my salesman that day, to try again and he comes back with the exact same offer. I tell him I won't sell it for that and he brings his sales manager, Leonides, over who proceeds to throw numbers at me without explaining what they are as an "explanation" of why they can't give me $3,000 for it. I tell him I don't understand what he's trying to tell me and he repeats the EXACT same thing. Now, I'm a young woman under 30 who has never bought a car before so unfortunately, I expect this from slimy car salesmen. They also know I traveled there for the car and was hoping to not have to take my old one home as well, although my fiancé was there in case we needed to. They offer $600 more so I cut my losses and take it. The price for the CX-5 that was advertised online was $3,000 cheaper than what I ended up paying for it. Matt said there was a "rebate" on it that brought it down to the advertised price listed online but when I was signing the final paperwork there was no "rebate" and the price was the same if not more than that at other dealerships I had seen online. They kept me at the dealership for 4-5 hours with all their back and forth gathering paperwork, which by the way they screwed up at least half the time and had to redo. I later called to inquire as to the breakdown of the price since that paper somehow never made it into my stack to take home and was informed by Mike in management that that information could not be given to me, the car purchaser, via phone or email due to the company's privacy policy. I could instead drive the 2.5 hours and pay the tolls to come into their dealership again where he could explain everything to me verbally. And in case you think they can't really be THAT scummy... They called me a few days after I bought the car and told me that if I left them a 5 star review online, they'd give me free all weather mats for my new vehicle. You better believe leaving this accurate review of Gurnee Hyundai's slimy sales tactics and lack of integrity is worth every single penny I spent on quality, custom-fit all weather mats. Look them up on Better Business Bureau. 1 star reviews across the board and their accreditation was suspended 2 days after I purchased my vehicle.
Be aware and stay away from these scam artists. Foolishly, I thought the days of slimy car salesmen were over, unfortunately, I was dead wrong.
Once I arrive at the "dealership", I found that the fair online price (Cargurus) required an additional $3000 in useless accessories including a fee of $2,495 for paint protection (the vehicle has multiple scratches) and a fee of $650 for a LoJack system that does not work. Regardless, my son fell in love with the vehicle so we decided to purchase it. Then somehow during the financing process an additional $2K was added to the overall price of the car that wiped out the value of his trade-in vehicle.
When my son and I called and questioned the discrepancy a day later we were given the runaround by the dealership staff who would not call us back to address our concerns. Two days later we visited the dealership for the third time in person and left in shock at how our salesman Rodger D. Lied to our face and how the slimy manager, Leonides condescendingly responded to our concerns. I understand that car dealers need to make a profit but give me a break!
This dealership did nothing but destroy the reputation of the trusted Rohrman Auto Group name by price gouging a first-time buyer out of roughly $1800, which they most likely would have made back 10-fold in service and repeat future business. Instead, all that Gurnee Hyundai will receive is additional horrible business reviews. Doubt they will care, I guess the days of slimy car salesmen will continue to live on at Gurnee Hyundai.
