“Airbnb: Premium Price for Vacation Rental, but Dirty and in Disrepair”

Barbara A.
8/28/15

I booked a "Charming Historical Home" for vacation with family in Cape May, NJ. We found the place utterly lacking in charm, and poorly maintained and furnished. Kitchen was dirty w/ leaking water under sink, trash in cupboards and drawers, and 2 dinner plates for a house that slept 9. Closets were dirty, baseboards were missing, and, when a doorknob fell off in my hand, the host told me "It's a 105-year-old house, you know", and left without fixing it. Beds looked slept in, linens and dishes were of questionable cleanliness, and furniture was broken. I was extremely distressed and did not stay more than an hour. I was fortunate to find a last minute rental elsewhere. I contacted Airbnb, and told them I had to leave, as the place was not habitable for 450.00/night. I wrote a letter to Airbnb and attached pictures. I was told they would not refund my money because their policy was to give the host 24hrs to correct problems. This host was so annoyed when I pointed out some of the issues, he left and took back with him the courtesy bottle of wine! And where was I to stay while he 'addressed' the issues of cleanliness and disrepair? Never again.

This website is a scam. Do not use it. I recently booked an apartment advertised through this site by a Fred Morgan (*******@yahoo.com). The apartment was advertised a 2 bedroom apartment in Manhatten (201 West 11th Street). I asked for verification of his authenticity. He referred me to 2 so called past users of the apartment. I emailed them. They verified him as genuine. He advised the money for the apartment was to be deposited in a lawyers account. Gave me the name of the lawyer. I checked out to see if there was a lawyer of that name. There was. I deposited the money into an account $900 US. Never heard from him again. Was of course my fault for using a non safe site. I found another apartment through Airbnb at the last moment which was great. No problems at all.

I booked an appartement by the so called Owner Fred Morgan *******@yahoo.com in NYC 201 west 11th 201. Payed 600 $ to a so called lawyer named Robin Walton an never got an answer!
I complained at the website guesthousenetwork.com itself: Never got an answer either!
