Went into the Reading store around 2 on a Wed - empty. Immediately met by a GG person offering to 'help'. Told him my situation: I have like-new irons (TaylorMade P790s) and driver/woods (SIM2 Max) that I can't hit to save my life... impulse buy, new, 3 months ago (bought them based on reviews, NOT demo'ing - BIG mistake...) Used 3 times at the range and 3 rounds of 9 - mint condition, not for me - I need more forgiving irons and probably driver/woods. My goal TODAY was (a) try 3 or 4 different brands and (b) trade my set in - TODAY - for something more forgiving.
He immediately said they don't do that..."we're not supposed to let you just hit a bunch of balls. We can't change shafts and driver heads, and you're trying all different sets of clubs..."
He obviously misunderstood me... I told him I'd been researching easy-to- hit irons, and the same names always came up: Cobra, Rogue, Ping G425s. I just wanted to hit 4 or 5 balls with each (maybe a 7 or an 8) to see which I liked the best - 15-20 balls tops. If I liked one, I'd trade in my like-new P790s. Same with the Driver - wanted to try (supposedly forgiving) Cobra, Ping G425 and Rogue drivers - which ever I liked the best I'd take what I could for SIM2 and buy the new Driver. I thought this is the kind of thing they do...apparently NOT.
He said: "We don't do that. We're not going to let you hit a bunch of different irons - different brands and clubs and what not, changing shafts and heads and all that - we don't do that". Two bays in back - both empty. Entire store empty. 15 minutes of "we don't do that" and him talking over me and two high school kids stroll in, walk straight to the back and start hitting golf balls...
I said: "Really? I CAN'T just hit 3 or 4 balls w/ a Rogue, Cobra and Ping 7-iron before buying one?" Well...no, you can't just come in and hit balls...we don't really do that.
Thinking maybe he thought I wouldn't buy - just play around and leave like the high school kids were probably doing - I told him if - for example - I really liked the Pings, I'd buy them today. He interrupted - "are your clubs in the car?" - Yes... "Well, we can't let you just hit a bunch of clubs, change heads and shafts, - that's $100..."
At that point, frustrated, I said: OK forget it, this is WAY too much effort. 20-minutes of him telling me I CAN'T hit a couple clubs before dropping $800+ on a set - but if I pay an extra $100 I sort of can - meanwhile a couple kids walk in and immediately start hitting balls. Ridiculous - I said "never mind...forget it - I'll just go to Golf and Ski Warehouse in NH. Thanks anyway, see ya".
Wait! Wait! You can hit balls...wait! As I walked out.
Never again.
The staff at GG are great but the company is trash to deal with. I placed an order for some new clubs, something I have never done before and going through GG couldn't have been a worse experience.
I ordered the clubs online because I wanted to make sure my specifications were imputed correctly. I paid for the order with my debit card (because this matters) and all was good. My card would be charged upon shipment per GG's policies but this is where things went drastically wrong. My order was placed on Feb 5th, order shipped around the 14th/15th from titleist. I received the he updates of shipments from UPS stating they have been shipped and on the way. I checked my bank account and the money left, everyone was paid and happy, or so I thought.
My clubs arrived on the 22nd and I couldn't have been more thrilled, splurging on something I've never done in the 23 years I've played golf. Fast forward to March 5th, I woke up to an email alert stating that my checking account was over drafted. GG decided to charge my account a month later after the original purchase was made! After speaking with a customer service manager and explaining my position she agreed that GG was in the wrong and I should be refunded the amount I lost due to errors made on the company's behalf. Fast forward 2 months later my money was never refunded, I've called several times and no one returns my phone calls or request of a follow up.
For a company that makes millions and millions of dollars I was told that because I used a debit card, this was the total reason why everything went wrong. In the world of 2023 where we can pay with a fake currency or send electronic transfers without delay, using my choice of payment is the reason why they could charge me at some random time and not when the clubs shipped as per their own policy!
This is how they will treat you, the consumer looking to splurge on a purchase that maybe a once in a lifetime thing. I find it extremely disconcerting that a billion dollar company will have an issue with any form of payment that they accept, but when I payed for (custom) wedges a month earlier, there were no issues. GG made an error and refuses to own up to it and will screw over a customer that has been very loyal to them. I will never recommend shopping with GG or $#*!s Sporting Goods as they do not care about the consumer. If you do shop with them, be forewarned that this could happen to you and no one from their office will care about the predicament they put you in.
The staff in the stores are great but dealing with customer service or corporate is a waste of time! They do not care about the consumer and I will never support this company going forward
Titleist irons and callaway wedges. The refund policy is whatever makes sense aka money for them but it’s taking ownership for their own mistakes.
