Any Garmin device is irreplaceable for all hikers and people who enjoy outdoor recreation far from big cities. You can buy the most affordable piece of smart watch or any other equipment and be confident that you are in good hands in any type of extreme situation. I am 100% sure that Garmin saved a lot of lives.

“Watches that don't last more than 2 years”

Bruce H.
8/4/22

My first Forerunner 935 failed after less than 2 years. After much back and forth and several weeks waiting without a watch it was replaced under warranty. The 2nd one has also failed after a bit more than a year. Same issues with the altimeter (which seems to be an issue for many people) and watch shutdown during saving activities and losing all data. Garmin won't replace this one as it's been more than 2 years since the original purchase. If you want something that lasts a bit longer, look elsewhere

I have been running the Astro and Alpha dog tracking for years and linking it to base camp on my computer. Went to renew for another year and was told they no longer use Birdseye imagery. Was then told I could purchase some Topo card for my device that only shows the terrain. So we have went from a google earth imagery to some outdated terrain imagery in the year of 2023. Why would you go from being able to see actual buildings and fence rows to some outdated Topo Map. How stupid.

It's not the first time I have issues with Garmin products, But it's the most expensive I've owned. The gps garmin bmw navigator IV is useless and is not recognized by garmin express to make new updates. Garmin's customer service located on the other side of the world is simply helpless. After 15 days and over 20 emails they closed the case leaving me with expensive, broken GPS. Over all terrible products and helpless customer service.

Company is useless, watches are a waste of money, don't work well and nothing you can do about it. $279 down the drain on a Vivioactive 4S bought in August. You also can't review their products on their website. I guess that should have been a red flag, but I messed up and listened to reviews from magazines and other websites. Do not buy anything from them. Since you won't accept a PDF of my invoice I can't attach it below.

Watch broke after 2 years, straight after the warranty ended. Display faded and watch showing wrong time. I have paid £160 for the watch and expected it to last quite few years. Garmin said they can replace my watch if I have paid another £78. I'm alright, thanks. Sent an email expressing my disappointment with no response. Will be looking into other brands that offer better products and customer service.

I bought this tracker 2 months ago and used less than half a dozen times and had several problem with reception. When it wouldn't acquire signal I called their customer support, several time. They gave me the run around making up excuses and advising me to change the settings. It was clearly a faulty device and they would not even offer to replace it.

Tip for consumers:
Terrible customer service.

Will not lookup addresses, by number street city state. Will not look up by building name, will not find any nearby streets. Stuck on 40% brightness, cannot adjust brightness when plugged into outlet or handheld. Can't update program because it only hooks up with computers not tablets. Wasted HOURS trying to get help from Garmin. NO USE WHATSOEVER. Constantly hung on by garmin help desk. Will not save routes when imputed into devise. POS don't waste $ on this garbage devise.

Tip for consumers:
Does not look up address when typed in search bar. Must go another page select city, go back type into address, still will not locate address. It’s next to a Uhaul outlet can be found in.00000025 sec ones on google maps but can’t find it. Can’t adjust brightness whether plugged in outlet or handheld, stuck on 49@, nearly readable. Can’t upgrade program because it only hook up to computers not laptops. WastedHOURS on phone with customer support They were less than useless. Complete waste of $

I am extremely unhappy with Garmin Customer support and would advise anyone thinking of purchasing a Garmin product to reconsider. I bought the echomap sonar fish finder and it was bad out of the box. The Customer Service jerked me around for weeks and when they finally decided to replace the transducer (a $400 piece of equipment) they wanted $900 deposit to make sure they got the bad one back. How does it make sense? It doesn't. Just another way to show they don't care about their customers. My last Garmin product to be sure.

This is the worst piece of equipment I have ever purchased. It is not user friendly whatsoever. Impossible to figure out how to use it. Whoever designed this device should be fired. I give it a MINUS ZERO as a rating. When you buy an apple product, it is absolutely user friendly and you look forward to using it. This product, the GARMIN 840, you want to throw it in the garbage. It is also extremely complicated to find out how to even start it. Beyond ridiculous. Stay away from it!

I bought a Garmin tracker over a year ago and was not satisfied with their service from the beginning. Tracking was inaccurate and spotty at best. I just got an email saying they had auto renewed by subscription when I never authorized it and haven't used the device in a year. I called customer service and demanded a refund from the supervisor and received in 3 days. This is auto renewal is a seedy practice that is rampant in virtually all subscription renewal services.

Tip for consumers:
these devices look appealing but they you will be disappointed

Verified purchase

I purchased an InReach Mini to help me be safer on solo backpacking trips. There is a HUGE learning curve to learn how to use the unit, the online accounts to get everything set up, and learn how to use MapShare program which is supposed to allow friends and family to follow me on my trip. Instructions are very user unfriendly and I still don't know how to do all of these things. Maybe it would allow me to be rescued if I am injured (I have not had to test this capability) but other aspects of use are difficult to learn.

DO NOT order anything from Garmin, go with Wahoo. Garmin has an awful customer support team that is just money hungry. Rather than fixing a defective device that's all over the internet saying it's an issue, KURT from Garmin got very snotty and said, well that's from 5 years ago so it's not at all credible. Then I showed him others and he kept making excuses that it's not a "known" issue with Garmin and I would have to PAY FOR A NEW device.

Tip for consumers:
Don't buy Garmin devices, purchase Wahoo.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Possibly the worst customer service and company ever, bought a vivo active4, one of the worst purchases I have made, lucky if battery lasts 2 days. And that's with everything turned off, and minimal usage. Spoke to Garmin and unbelievable customer service, honestly don't buy a Garmin, products, company and customer service as atrocious

Garmin fenix 3 HR. Paid over $500. In little over a year started having software issues. It's out of warranty. To replace for refurbished is $130.00 plus tax. Meaning I will have refurbished watch and it would cost me more than $600. It's ridiculous. Costumer service not willing to work something out and help. So in plain words. In approximately year and half I supposed to spend $650.00 dollars to have refurbished Garmin fenix 3 watch. For this price they should give better warranties of have some better replacements options. Now you can find this watch online for $320 brand new So decision to make is To have Refurbished for $650 Or new for $850 Since I already spent $500 year and a half ago.
Garmin costumer service doesn't care.

The Garmin name starts correctly, but only the first three letters. Should be Garbage, not Garmin. Overpriced, shoddy electronics with terrible software, hot garbage app, and no support.

I was told that I could not purchase a reconditioned watch, which Garmin calls decertified. That these watches were not offered for sale. I found a company supposedly out of Nevada that apparently does have these watches that are recertified, from Garmin to sale. So the answer seems to be no for me and yes for other companies. How about an honest answer for an outdoorsman & Boy Scout assistant scoutmaster who believes in Garmin?

If you are looking for an attractive, stylish watch the Garmin Lily fulfills that requirement, but there are numerous issues that make me recommend not to purchase it. I purchased mine in March, 2023

1. It is not user friendly when trying to adapt it for your personal use.
2. Inconsistent performance.
3. It spontaneously begins an activity when I don't request it. If I go out for a short walk without needing to track, later in the walk it launches into a walking activity and begins to track the time.
4. Sometimes after a power walk, and I'm home having breakfast afterwards, it tells me to Move.
5. The face setup even changed spontaneously.
6. I set it to track miles, but it will only track laps, which one lap clearly doesn't coincide with a mile. I know the mileage of my walk. Tech support couldn't fix it and in fact blamed my new Galaxy S23 phone's GPS as being inaccurate since the watch relies on the phone GPS. A GPS isn't built into the Lily. The tech representative probably gave me that reason just get me off the phone.
7. The menstrual cycle is useless to those of us who are past that time of our life. It took me a while, but I finally figured out how to delete it and stop reminding me.

I absolutely do not recommend purchasing the Garmin Lily unless you want to wear it just for looks. I give it one star.

This gps will tell you how far you are from destination or place you want but only as the crow flys for true mile you have to click on the place to see the real mile. We are driving not flying. Looses satellite and will say it's driver error.

I live in New Zealand and Over two years I planned a hike to the Canadian Rockies. I wanted a robust reliable GPS for the hikes I planned to do. So a month before I left NZ I went and bought a Rino 750. After arriving in the Rockies I hiked about 45km in roughly 3 days, added a number of waypoints for key places I visited and saved them each day, some of the waypoints were needed to back track to get out of the areas I hiked into. Well on day 4 I turned on my Rino 750 only to final it has reset itself all my data is wiped, when I touch "Add Waypoint" I get a "database error" message, and the device will not turn off. It will also not load any of the maps I had been using on my hikes and spent $400 purchasing for the trip. I've removed the data card with maps and tried to restart the device with out any success. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I'm now stuck in Canada with a useless device with 4 days before a leave to start a 3 week Alaska trip that I was depending on the Rino for. As far as I'm concerned the product is so incredibly unreliable and my advice to anyone considering purchasing one is don't, they are garbage.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 50lm with life time maps. I had to buy an SD card right away because the Garmin didn't even have enough memory to do an update. Then they wouldn't honor they life time maps. The wonderful product I used 4 times is garbage and so is Garmin.

TRUST THAT GARMIN COULD NOT FIX PAIRING ISSUES. I've been communicating with Garmin for more than a month. They did literally a lot to pair my Forerunner 945 to Iphone 12. Until now, they could not solve the basic pairing issue. What is so disappointing is that I first tried a 20USD sports watch to get to feel if I really need a 700USD sports watch. The 20USD watch worked well with pairing and some of the basic features that is helpful; thus, I felt the need to upgrade to FR945. I'm close to begging for Garmin to finally fix pairing issues. If only I could refund, with all the tedious communication difficulties and an unsolved basic issue, I'll never look back at Garmin again!

The site has a horrible bug. It tells me to fill in fields which are not even there, and sometimes says something like - user object as invalid fields, no matter what I do. It is the worst website I encountered in a long long time.
Besides, customer support works only Monday to Friday and there is a long waiting time.
Shame on you Garmin - the worst customer service!

Garmin sells GPS stand alone devices, etc. So far, so good. The problem starts when the devices start demanding "map updates." This becomes so annoying that you figure: ok, i'll do the upgrade since the device has been very very good to me. Here's what happens: The happy customer goes to the Garmin website, you plug in your device, pay for the new maps, and then (get ready for the ride)... NIGHTMARE! First, various HTTP 500 errors occur (i. E. unidentified server errors). Then, try calling customer service--THEY'RE NEVER OPEN DURING HOURS YOU NEED THEM. You finally get ahold of someone and you are told (in so many words) that you're a moron and that you didn't do some software upgrade. Ok, you do the upgrade... more HTTP 500 errors. Again, customer support isn't available. Repeat cycle. Here's the moral of the story: Download a directions app to your smartphone and forget Garmin.
