Was hesitant to try but it works better than Verizon plus it's free. Can't go wrong with FreedomPop. Service everywhere I go with LTe speed. Love if!
I ordered their $10 plan online, but the order never showed up on my online account. I emailed them and they stated the sim was shipped but failed to respond concerning the account issue. After 12 days and still no sim card, I contacted PayPal and disputed the order. After a few days, Paypal reimbursed me the $10. The sim card finally came after 15 days but does not work. Still no response concerning my account issue. They are obviously a scam now.
FreedomPop is loaded with hidden charges - even if your billing shows $0 due you may still be charged. They have a variety of hidden "services" that are also billed but aren't considered part of your 'Plan' since they fall under services. Ignore the next payment amount due on their home page and make sure you look at ALL their pages to see what other charges you will incur. It takes a lot of work to get their "free" service to be free. Also note that once you navigate through their maze of hidden charges and get to actually not paying them anything, they will throttle your speed.
Poor phone service (at one point I wasnt able to make calls) but great texts as long as you don't send photos. My friends are telling me that sending them pictures through their port has ruined their phones. They also take advantage of your account and don't inform you of changes or charges. I went from 500mb to 300mb to 200mb without warning. I'm not sure how long they will be able to carry on this way, but it doesn't seem like long. I guess for free they think people will put up with it.
FreedomPop has all manner of gotchas to get you to inadvertently sign up for monthly charge services, and should you try to inquire about a problem they state you should get a response within 4-5 business days. When they do respond via email you have 48 hours to answer them or they close the ticket assuming it has been resolved. The help I have received has been sub-par.
A dispute of a billing charge will lead to your account being terminated.
Call quality is mediocre and sometimes text messages mysteriously show up long after they were sent, and sometimes not at all.
It is a free service once the phone is paid for, so it has that going for it, but between the spotty call quality and horrible customer service, you may be left wondering if the headaches are worth enduring for the free phone.
So now my account is cancelled, even though my Novatel MiFi indicates devices are connected, two phones indicate they are connected to FeedomPop, but there is no internet connection since 11. 01. 17, my account has a $10.00 credit and has recently 11 been billed a $4.99 monthly charge, which I still don't know what that charge is for, FreedomPop customer service says my account is terminated because I complained about unapproved monthly charges for what was supposed to be free internet. My card was charged, for three months, $34.99 for a service plan and $4.99 for monthly service. From day one I indicated, in writing, all I wanted was the free monthly internet, with the option to top up, no phone service, no other internet plan. I discovered the sneaky charges when I OKed a $15 top up charge and was alerted about the suspicious charge by the credit card company. So I checked the billing and account and saw the extra $40 a month charges. I demanded FreedomPop refund the charges. They "as a courtesy" refunded one month's charges, and the $15 top up charge, which I actually had OKed, but I demanded all 3 month's charges be refunded. Which they were. Then I saw they had charged another $4.99 monthly charge, for the free internet, so I added $10 to the account to cover any top ups. But I did not say yes to automatic top up charges. And I did supply a credit card to the account. So now I have no internet from FreedomPop, and no response for several days to emails sent to their customer service. Truly, it looks like this offer was set up to get access to credit cards for suspicious charges. I am appalled.
I am not saying that you should never use this service... what I'm saying is that you pay $20/mo... and you'll get what you are putting into it. If all you can afford is what they can provide for cell service then subscribe but don't expect their customer service to do anything. Expect to spend hours on the phone, only to get somebody who will hang up on you, or just transfer you. I work in a call center for a bank, so I know how the game works.
Really great CONCEPT, free internet. BUT, after seeing a report on the news this morning I decided to visit their website to have a look. Somehow I think they are doing a little data mining, because after browsing around and clicking off the site I noticed that my "junk folder" had messages by guess who? Yep, freedompop! I didn't give out any info when I viewed the site, so just how did they get my email address? NOT COOL.
So the commercial says a lot of attracting information encouraging you to signup but the customer service says another thing. It apparent the free internet is 119.00 not free.
Get free internet or free cell phone service. Service plans start at $0.00/month. Find cheap mobile wifi hotspots, smart phones, SIM-only service, tablets, and more!
