“Don't even think about it - just subscribe”

Justyn C.
2/20/21

Having worked in financial services for 25 years I feel like I can attest to how much rubbish is spouted by financial advisors. Yes, some are good, but most are simply selling mutual funds with no expertise other than sales skills. I learned more about good long term, life changing investing and wealth management in the first year of a subscription than I did in the entire time I spent on Wall Street.

We're sorry to hear you were disappointed by your experience. The order page explains that your subscription will automatically renew at the then current price. Additionally, you can find your renewal date on your account page.

Upon purchase of any one subscription, the automatic renewal feature is turned on. Your subscription will automatically renew at the then-current rate until you notify us of your decision to terminate your membership. For subscription terms greater than three months, we will email you about the length and price of your renewal before we charge you. The terms and conditions set the boundaries and nature of our relationship; these were agreed to at the time of purchase.

I believe I was able to find your account - if your service renewed on June 3,2023, you received a copy of your receipt (Subject line: Your receipt from The Motley Fool) on June 3,2023. Your renewal notices were sent on the following dates:
Mon May 15,2023 Action Required! A quick reminder about your renewal
Wed Apr 19,2023 Action Required: Claim your renewal discount today!

These emails explained that your Rule Breakers membership was set to renew for one year at $299. They also said that if you do not take advantage of the early renewal discount, your subscription will automatically renew. Unfortunately, as you are far outside of the 30-day, money-back guarantee, we are unable to issue a refund.

The owners of Motley Fool just sell subscriptions and they know that 85% of Americans can't even get a hold of a grand right now so they've shifted to going after folks that have a ton of money invested elsewhere and they're trying to convince them to shift over to Motley Fool! All of their tax burden advice etc. you can find anywhere online! All they do is sell stock pick advice which well trained chimps can do! Once you buy a subscription for $99, after 30 days, they will continue pounding you with sales calls and e-mails to get you to make an even bigger mistake and pay $2500 just for stock advice! If you invest with them the only one who is the fool is you! Besides we're about ready to go through a massive correction cycle! If you're smart you'll run to cash….not these clowns!

I used their services for over 5 years and lost over three hundred thousands from their recommendations. This is a company made of two brothers: one is purely momentum trader and suggests stocks that are going up and the other one suggests stocks that trade far away from highs. They do not understand what makes a good stock or bad one. Except for those well know stocks like Apple, NVDA, 90% of their recommended stocks are junk and now become penny stocks.

Tip for consumers:
They once suggest that you should use Shopify as the foundation stock (meaning your should buy a lot) and buy others that are now penny stocks. When a tock is doing badly, they ask us to hold for 5 years. For example, Boston Beer dropped from 1400 to 800 in one day. I contacted them what I should do. They say just hold it and it will come back in 5-8 years. Now the stock is 200 and never come back.

Unfortunately, we're unable to find any accounts with the information you've provided. There isn't a financial publisher, The Motley Fool included, that can promise that a recommended stock will not encounter market fluctuations. Investments are inherently a risk, and the market will fluctuate. When we recommend a stock in any subscription or strategy, we are doing so with the intention of holding that stock for 5 years, minimum. As long-term investors, we recognize that stock prices will fluctuate. That being said, we won’t always recommend a sell just because the stock price drops. We prefer to hold stocks in companies that we are confident in for the long term.

When I signed up for their service they were heavily promoting CFLT as a stock to buy. I bought it at $65.00 a share and sold it 15 months later for $24.10. It was not a good recommendation.

I know it’s hard to be accurate when evaluating stock picks, but this was a very big miss.

If you'll review our investing philosophy, https://www.fool.com/about/investing-philosophy/ you'll see that we encourage our members to buy at least 25 stocks that they plan on holding for a minimum of 5 years. I lost half of my account because of my trust in motley fool. I should've know better than to blindly listen to these yahoos. Every week they give buys and they are really the worst timed, worst suggestions that I've encountered. I listened to their pod casts and read all their articles. Thet just want your membership. The catch is, the subscriber is the fool! Do not waste your money. Afterwards, I did much better just putting all my money in the SPY.

Unfortunately, we're unable to find any accounts with the information you've provided. Some of our services, such as Stock Advisor, issue recommendations on a set schedule, and will continue to do so. You may disagree with a particular recommendation, or feel it isn't the right time to buy, and that's ok!

We do not expect all our members to purchase every recommendation we release, as every investor's journey is different. One of the principal tenets here at The Motley Fool is that the best person to handle your finances is you. Although we provide research behind our recommendations, we encourage our members to do their own research as well. It is our firm belief that it serves every investor's best interest to encounter and consider opposing viewpoints.

We're sorry to hear you've been disappointed in the performance of your service as of late. It's important to keep in mind that no financial publisher, The Motley Fool included, can guarantee that a recommended stock will not fluctuate. Investments are inherently a risk, and the market will vary.

Never using this site again as it is very dodgy.

I receive their email regarding renewal of my subscription. I have then quickly replied to their email and advised I do not wish for the recurring payment to be processed. However, they never answer me.

I tried to call to their phone line as well but it just said all representatives are busy and I must levee a message for them to contact me back.

Very unprofessional service.

If I cannot contact them by the end of next week, I will take action with my bank.

Zoom, Invitae Pinterest, all losers since 2020. If I would have held them the recommended 5 years I would have been worse off. When Tom and Dave Gardner were running Motley Fool the recommendations were far better. I lost 10s of $1000s in these terrible stocks. You are better off piggy backing Warren Buffets recommendations, I made my money back on his picks.

After you sign up for their basic plan you will literally get bombarded with a constant stream of emails desperately trying to sell you more and more. You think you're buying a stock buying advisery service, however it won't be long before you're feeling like if you don't sign up to their additional offers you're actually only getting their third rate service, at best. Their methods are low-class and nasty. The attached photo is one of dozens of sales emails.

After taking my non refund subscription they sent me a list of stocks I should buy for the long-haul. Within three months every last one of them is down 50 to 60%. - four times as bad as the S&P performance over the same period. Bottom line they sent old outdated news that put me closer to the poorhouse.

I have been a subscriber of MotleyFool's Ultimate growth service for close to 2.5 years. This premium service charges $1499 in annual fees. That portfolio since its inception (well over 2 years) has returned -42%. During the same period ASX has returned a whopping +28.65%. Out of the 28 recommended stocks only 2 stocks is is positive territory while the rest are outright losers.

The Motley Fool produces content like a spammy ad blog site, pushing out content that is favorable to the institutions and individuals that pay them to write biased "articles". None of what they write is credible or unbiased. For the first several years, they were a great resource but over the years, they've really gone down the gutter. A site full of misinformation and biased rhetoric. Avoid anything they say or sell.

So buy this stock and pay us $100 is what is in the "news letter". Who do you think buys the stock first? Every look up a stock on Yahoo and see a bunch of stories by these guys? Why are the stories either very negative or overly positive? Read the disclaimers, it depends on if they own the stock... not very fair if they are giving you what looks like a "news" article. I been burnt by taking their advice and would like everybody to understand who is making money here.

People complain about the Fool's marketing overload. That's not the real problem with these guys. The real problem is they have TERRIBLE recommendations. I've lost thousands on stocks recommended by these idiots. These numbers should tell you all you need to know:

APPN? Down $15,800 (I just saw another "buy it" article on the fool today. Great advice.)
LMND? Down $11,900
SKLZ? Down $4,100

Morons. But they ARE good at marketing, and at suckering people for $. Unfortunately, I include myself in that group. Beware.

I signed up for Motley Fool and paid for some of the premier services (SA and Rule Breakers) - I'm pretty disappointed with the content. I'm fine if they recommend over-hyped companies / momentum names, but the analysis is very weak. I'm looking for some fundamental and technical analysis - numbers, exhibits, trends, margins, financials. What I get is a few paragraphs on high level trends. Perhaps the in-depth analysis is part of higher tier subscription which is the next complaint.

The constant up-selling, click bait to sign up for the next level service is super annoying. I already spent $300 / year on this...

Strong Pass.

They suck unless you have big money to get all of there constant upselling. Do your own research. Everything is available you just have to look for it on Google. Motley fool is joke. Only lure you in with a small membership fee and only give you obvious choices that for the investor that is just starting out is a waste of money. And the only thing you will get out of it is the feeling of disappointment. That's it. There customer service sucks too. Everything about them sucks to be honest.

Of course Motley Fool has responded by stating they cannot find my account, this is "text book" marketing actions of a business trying to discredit a disgruntled and unhappy customer and not taking responsibility for the business poor performance. Well here is the respond they sent me.
Please note the standard words in their response, but more importantly the time frame has extended to 10-20 years and the last paragraph expressing there legal position.
We are now 16 months in and the portfolio performance has just got worse! Some stock are down 40%+

Hello Lindsay,

Thank you for contacting The Motley Fool.

There isn't a financial publisher, The Motley Fool included, that can promise that a recommended stock will not encounter market fluctuations. Investments are inherently a risk, and the market will fluctuate. We invest in companies in which we have long-term confidence, and encourage our members to do the same.

The market has its ups and downs, but over time, it goes back up. In the short term, anything can happen — including market corrections and even crashes. One of your holdings could fall by 20% tomorrow but if you're holding for the long term, you can ride out the downturns. While it might seem devastating today, that drop won't matter in 10 or 20 years. If you ride out the dips, you'll likely benefit from the long-term wealth-building magic of the market, which is why we are long-term investors at The Motley Fool.

One of the principal tenets here at the Fool is that the best person to handle your finances is you. By your use of our Services, you're agreeing that you bear responsibility for your own investment research and investment decisions. You also agree that The Motley Fool, its directors, its employees, and its agents will not be liable for any investment decision made or action was taken by you and others based on news, information, opinion, or any other material published through our Services.

Beware of high price services, they are definitely not worth paying, and customer service is poor

So I joined MF on a basic service, then was bombarded with offers of services that claim significantly better performance then the S&P500 ETC. After careful consideration and reading their growth statements I upgraded my service to Blast off 21, at nearly $2000AUD, and invested a significant amount of money!
After nearly 6 months the portfolio is over 20% down, whilst the S&P is 15% up. They state to hold for 3 years for returns, that said the current losses will most likely take at least a year to recover, if they do.

When I wrote to them asking what, or if there is a strategy to help improve the performance of the portfolio. I receive an unbelievable response stating "they take no responsibility for the performance of the recommendations", and I am "responsible for the investments", even though the whole intention of the service is to recommend stocks and follow their recommendations to the letter, which I initially did. Along with some statements clearly expressing their legal responsibility.

So you will only hear about the wins and the outstanding performance of some of their stocks, but not the losses, and don't expect MF to offer any useful responses to when they don't perform.

Of course all companies will state their wins, I completely understand this, but its when things go wrong that the true measure of a company and its customer service will be evident.
I also understand that stocks can go down significantly with market swings. But when a service is openly and clearly marketed, and sold on its performance to against another and then fails miserably one has the right to be upset.
The most disappointing part was their response to my question.
This clearly showed them to be a marketing company and not a true investment advisory company

As a remember I did exactly what they said but 15 of their recommendations and I watch my savings go down the tubes. Nearly all the recommendations our growth stocks with no value. They are hoping a couple of those happen to be the next apple or Amazon which will make your returns, The rest will likely fizzle out to low valuations equal to their book value or go out of business. When the market dip 10% spring 2022 my entire savings was cut by 55%. Some of the stocks are down 85%, none are up. Probably more than half of the stocks they recommended were pandemic favorites that had crazy unsustainable profits during the only pandemic of my lifetime, I guarantee they'll never go back to the price I bought them at.

Tip for consumers:
Understand their pics are gambles.

Thank you for your feedback.

Unfortunately, we're unable to find any accounts with the information you've provided. We're sorry to hear you've been disappointed in the performance of your service so far. It's important to keep in mind that no financial publisher, The Motley Fool included, can guarantee that a recommended stock will not fluctuate. Investments are inherently a risk, and the market will vary.

We encourage our members to build a diverse portfolio of at least 25 stocks that they plan on holding for 5 years, minimum. We believe this pairing is the best way to counteract the whims of the market.

Paid $1300 plus tax for the premium service. First badge of recommended stocks are down considerably after just three weeks. Seven out of nine are down, 5 are down more than 20% each. One is already down 40% (which will require a 60% gain from the current price to get even). The remaining two stocks gained just a little bit. What a mistake! The Motley Fool can verify my result by comparing the day the first badge of recommended stocks on 2/9/2021 and the closing price at the end of today (3/2/2021).

Thank you for your feedback.

At The Motley Fool, when we recommend a stock in any subscription or strategy, we are doing so with the intention of holding that stock for 3-5 years, minimum. This is especially true for our portfolio services, which it sounds like you purchased.

As long-term investors, we recognize that stock prices will fluctuate. That being said, we won’t always recommend a sell just because the stock price drops. We prefer to hold stocks in companies that we are confident in for the long term.

The Motley fool company has a service called 'stock advisor' for a 199 $ a year. This service is committed to provide stock recommendations. I have subscribed to this service on June 17 2021.After a short while I did not find this service useful for me. I think the result of people adhering to a recommendation might result with a short term hype and stock price can increase after the motley fool company has purchased it. However, the supporting data provided for a stock recommendation is not professional in my opinion. Since I had already committed to a yearly payment then I've just forgotten about it. On Feb 19 2023, I revealed that the Motley Fool charged me additional 199$ on June 17th 2022 for another year!I have immediately written to The motley fool service team. I kindly requested a refund mentioning to them they can easily see in my data. I was not getting into their platform for almost the entire period except for the first few weeks. Also, I told them that there was no option in their portal to cancel the service or remove the credit card details, and so I was surprised that they still allow themselves to Auto Renew this service. To me, it seems an unfair business conduct to auto renew an account that can not be canceled online. Also, to auto renew unused accounts. The Motley Fool support team did not respond to my claims and the request to refund the 199$ fee for the second year. They just wrote that they can cancel my subscription at once, although my payment for the entire period will not be refunded OR let my unused account stay as is until the end of the period I have paid for. Obviously, I canceled the account at once.

Tip for consumers:
Be careful from getting surprise charges as you can not cancel your subscription online and you will not be notified on charges. Motley Fool are auto renewing these accounts that you can only cancel by approaching to customer service to cancel your account.

Thank you for your feedback.

Unfortunately, we're unable to find any accounts with the information you've provided.

We understand your frustrations if the website and your service have not been accessed/used much since you signed up. We still delivered the service to you, even if you didn't use it. I've been a member for many years. They stopped the daily market report and now what I mostly get is a lot of marketing and upsell e mails. In addition, they flaunt their successes and ignore the failures, like recommending Radio Shack about one month before they went under. I tried to cancel my subscription today but they will not refund for the remaining unused portion of the subscription so I'm stuck with them through July. I think there are better options out there.

Thank you for your feedback. One of our representatives has reached out to assist with your email settings.

If you’re unhappy with the amount of emails you receive, we’d like to help you fix that. Simply log into Fool.com, click on “My Fool Membership” in the upper right-hand corner, and then click on “Account” and then “Email Preferences.” This will allow you to adjust your email settings to your preferences.

We're sorry to hear you feel we don't share times when our recommendations didn't succeed.

Looking over your account, you placed an order for an early renewal in May of 2022. Although that renewal offered a 30-day, money-back guarantee, we are unfortunately outside of that window. The automatic renewal for your subscription has been disabled and it will expire in July 2023.
