My rental went out without a hitch. I got a better car than I requested because the one I asked for wasnt available. I could see all of the ways it COULD have easily gone wrong. Leave time in case something does and be prepared for things like... staff being away from the phone and not getting right back with you, or your choice of car not being available. Be prepared to be flexible and you should be fine.
While each person at customer service has been polite, I am afraid I have to leave a negative review. WORST WORST WORST. My car was left for me to pick up with candy wrappers, ground chocolate in the carpet, spilled dark beverage on the seat, a half a case of water bottles, a section of the front bumper missing, not washed on the outside or inside vacuumed. I have made several attempts to resolve this since 11-4-15... as of today, 12-11-15 not heard back from claims.
When we dropped off our car we were told it was rented starting that evening. Because we had left it for a month we were "guaranteed" a minimum of $250.00. About 10 days into our trip I received an email that said our head lights needed to be rewired and we either paid for that, $425.00 or our car would be pulled "out of service". I said pull it out, that's too much, I have mechanics that will do it for nothing (in our business). About 2 weeks after that they informed me that they had gone ahead and fixed it, and GOOD NEWS it was only $300.00 so we wouldn't be getting any payment for the month. Pissed me off that when I told them not too, they did anyway. An email war began, me in the jungle in Guatamala, and someone on the east coast (or Chicago?) anyway, not what you want to be doing. When we got back we had a very difficult time getting anyone to pick us up, finally just grabbed the shuttle guy who worked for the hotel that they have there office at. Car was clean, all employees were friendly and nice, but I can't rate it any hirer because we didn't get what we were promised, they fixed our car when I specifically said not too, and pick up was quite the hassle. They just started up in Portland, so maybe it'll get better, don't think I'd do it again.
I got connected with the company through CheapOair.com (terrible customer service there and would not use other than to look up rates). I got an email confirmation about my FlightCar that was vague as to where the car was and how I was going to be shuttled to it. I had to dig to find their number and finally got picked up and taken to the lot. I picked a car. Options were limited and it had lot's of cosmetic damages and was told the radio didn't work. Not given any record of this information. At the time I had not read the reviews and assumed this worked like a regular rental and that they were keeping track of any defects. Started driving and the sun visor kept drooping down and the windshield was dirty. I tried to use the wipers but they were so poor it made it dirtier and I could hardly see with the sun glaring. Other than that the car worked fine. I returned the car and attendant took photos all around. I asked if she had record stating that radio didn't work because I didn't want to get charged for it. She said they don't keep records of that? Now I'm worried that I won't get my deposit back.
The best thing was the price.
I love startups but this is not well thought out. I guess that's why rental companies have to charge what they do. It costs money to provide consistent service, documentation and reduce liability. I hope they get it together.
We used Flightcar for parking and airport transportation when going on vacation just prior to Christmas. The actual location is a little obscure. We drove by twice before locating the entrance. The actual business is in a trailer with limited parking making both the drop-off and pick-up a little chaotic as we weren't the only ones doing so at the time. The biggest complaint is payment for the rental. The day after we arrived at our destination I got an e-mail say the car was rented. Upon our return to pick-up the car, we were told a check for early $49 was on the dash. We found no check in the car. The attendant was trying to handle a number of customers at once and said he'd send the check out the next day. We waited more than a week but no check. So I e-mailed Flightcar and did get a reboreply saying I get a response within 24 hours. I waited another week but there was no further response. I sent anoter e-mail so there has been no response period. My advise – if they owe you money, don't leave without it in your hands.
Flight Car sounds like a cheap way to rent a car but there were no cars available when I tried to do it!
I was impressed by the innovative concept and the staff is nice. We used flight car twice now.
1) The first time was apparently without incident and we were told the car was not rented.
2) The second time, we were again returned the car and told it was not rented. However, when we returned home, we found a receipt for 7-11 and potato chips in the car. My fiancé reported this and it turns out it was rented! We never received any notification and certainly did not receive our payment for them using our car. The management was very apologetic and offered our payment, but it is still very concerning that this happened and we would have never known had we not reported it.
And, now in retrospect, after our first time, I did find an old decomposing fried chicken wing stuffed in the side door pocket - weird since I don't remember eating chicken wings in the car in the past year and certainly would not have stuffed it there for future consumption. I am very suspicious that it could have been rented out before...
I think my fiancé still is willing to use their service, but I think I would rather just pay for a taxi.
