“Fiverr gave me a refund when the seller was crooked”

Arthur H.
1/1/24

This review began as a 1 star, and I changed it to a 5 star. There is a deficiency in the Fiverr software that made me have to rewrite my complaint every time the seller responded. I thought that the seller had figured out the perfect system to make sure the review never reached Support. However, it did reach support, and support resolved the issue within a few hours after I made the complaint.

“Prepare to be spammed”

Sara A.

I needed a flyer made more appealing and found someone who did a good job quickly. After completing and tipping (fiverr takes a fee of both project and tips) I started to receive cold solicitations for work. I deleted my account, but they still come and customer service won't do jack about it. Don't use the platform if you like having privacy and not using your time to sift through these solicitations.

This site is a great resource for purchasing cheap assets for websites/print/video. I have purchased illustrations and backing music tracks. With pricing, you definitley get what you pay for so remember that when bidding jobs out. Also, several artists will advertise their prices "start at" $20. However, in my experience, once you discuss details, you never get a job completed at the lowest price advertised and I have been asked for $10 the amount at different times. Be careful to read the reviews of the artists you work with as some take a very long time getting final products and some have very poor English language skills which can make the design process arduous at times. Also, be sure to specify the file formats you need because if you accept a final product and later need a different format (for print for example) you can expect to pay again. Overall, this is a good resource to have avaialble, just remember the results can be hit or miss depending on the artist(s) you work with.

Tip for consumers:
This is a great resource to reference for pricing out art jobs

*Edit- I was able to get my money refunded and put back into my paypal account; for this, I improved the rating. * I picked an artist based on the image he had with his profile that demonstrated his level of expertise/work. What he offered after I paid was not even close; I requested to cancel the order and get a refund. He begged me to give him a chance to make it right. I really did not want to continue but I acquiesced and gave him a chance. I was right he still tried to beg me but eventually agreed to cancel my order. There are no features on the website show me how to get to my money or communicate with anyone. Links don't seem to work. The email I received from Fiverr did have instruction i was able to follow and received my refund within just hours of requesting.

Tip for consumers:
Request a lot of samples of their work. Ask if you can see what what material was provided that they worked from. It's extremely difficult to get your money back - it's left in the system as a credit.

I signed up for an artist to create a cartoon rendering of me with my dogs in my sports car that I can use for marketing. I'm so upset with the outcome.

My first time using Fiverr, after using Freelancer for years. I should have known something was wrong when the response I got was to do SEO for my web channel.
I asked for an update to my resume and paid for bespoke resume creation. I asked for modern and contemporary, editable resumes. I agreed and paid 3 x the standard price to have this service. I received PDF of templates taken from Microsoft. I asked for more options and editable copies. I received again my content in a Microsoft template. When I asked for what I asked for, or a refund the freelancer blocked me and went MIA. Taking it to Fiverrr support while responsive was repeating the same emails over and resent me what he already had which was useless. I worked with them and I thought it was going nowhere, I was pleasantly surprised to find a refund. This indeed made up for all the chaos. I am grateful

Fiverr.com can help you build recognition as an independent sales person in your niche market and is a very easy website to use and the communication from staff is friendly and conversational.
A cont of Fiverr is the limited ways to get paid, mostly relies on Paypal with additional fees.

Tip for consumers:
Fiverr has three seller levels, these levels are freelancers who have varying job completion statuses and ratings.

I joined fiverr years ago at the recommendation of fellow authors. I hired several people to submit to newsletter promotion sites to save time, but 99% of these sites did not list my book which of course there's no way to know until the day of your free ebook promo. I also purchased some blog ads, but received no sales, making me think these author blog sites do not receive much traffic. The problem is that the site demands a review of a sellers services well before you know the real outcome which skews reviews positive. The only seller I'd really recommend for author promotion is BKnights. I've since deactivated my account. Not wasting any further money here.

Tip for consumers:
do your research outside just reading on site reviews before buying

There are lots of services being offered on Fiverr. Some of them are so bizarre and unothordox that you will doubt them. I have used Fiverr several times, and I have only been disappointed twice. Many people claim to have their orders cancelled at the last minute (among other numerous complaints), but I'm not sure Fiverr itself is to blame.

I have spent much time at this portal but a very little response than my expectation. They really need to improve if they want people to work through them.

I am a voice artist and have been on fiverr for over 6 years now. I have completed over a thousand voice overs during that time and have excellent reviews and am highly rated. When I was just starting out in voice over I had experience with theatre, teaching, training, etc. So even though I was new to the voice over business I had background experience and training. Fiverr was a great place to get my feet wet, to gain experience in the field even though I was getting paid a very small amount. However over the past couple years fiverr has changed in that regard. They have so many people registered there that it is completely saturated with talent. Fiverr expects those on the site to advertise on their own and bring clients to fiverr even though we get paid much less than we would on any other site. If I am going to advertise I will be sending people to a site where I actually make decent money. So even though I get a lot of return customers on fiverr, there are seldom new ones that I get because I am not advertising and the site is too saturated. A lot of good talent are starting to leaving because of this. I am considering it myself. Another couple of issues is that being on fiverr means you will deal with people who want to rip you off, pay you next to nothing and expect you to do things that any professional who knows anything about voice over would not expect. Some of these people will even threaten to leave bad reviews if you do not do extra work for them. Fiverr needs to do better on protecting their people on the site. Also, the automatic way they evaluate some of the metrics is not always accurate. I cannot count how many times they have lowered my status due to inaccurate calculations. And of course they can't or won't correct the problem until the next month. So I have just learned to ignore my status and know that those who have used me for projects in the past know my quality of work and will use me again. So Fiverr was a somewhat okay place to work a few years ago, even with the sucky customer service, but starting a profile now is not a good idea because the site is too saturated with talent already. I have also hired services on fiverr and feel that what I get for the money is a great deal! It requires you to do a little searching before hiring and willingness to communicate with the person you hired. They cannot read your mind. If you are not willing to do that, then don't bother people on fiverr. They are getting paid next to nothing to help with your project. Please make it easy for them to understand what you want, and most of the time things will end up good. The value you will get for your money will be great. And if you want stellar quality, pay someone who charges more money and has more reviews. Yes, there are some scammers on there, just like any site. I suggest you do a smaller paying job with someone first to see if you are a good fit before hiring for someone for a bigger more important project. Also, the prices on fiverr are so much lower than what should be charged. Please do not ask to have an even larger discount. It really is insulting.

Tip for consumers:
Communicate what you want. If you want stellar quality, hire someone who is not charging $5. You will get a great deal for the amount you pay, but don't be a cheapskate and expect people to give you $500 worth of work for $5. Please do not ask for a lower price. The price is already so much lower than the standard so it really is offensive when people ask for an even larger discount. Do a smaller paying job with someone first to see if you are a good match before hiring for larger projects.

Ive used the website on two purchases, one was a business plan in which u can tell it's been ported from some where, it's was very very basic not what I had expected according to the gig explain action.
Someone else did a nice resume for me, I added extra 10.00 to him so he can release me the soft editable copy, until today I'm still waiting it's been months, I stopped asking him. I'll use them for quick fix but not my favourite.

Many people complain a lot, but I've not had worse than average results the few times I've used services by merchants on Fiverr

Tip for consumers:
Ensure to sample a merchants previous work before you order from them. Don't just read their reviews. Ask for previous work as well as the client for whom it was done

I used Fiverr from both perspectives in the past - both seller and buyer.

As a seller you have to offer something special because there are so many other sellers that often over promise. The bad thing is as others mentioned here the refund policy - if the buyer doesn't like your work, he'll get the refund no matter how good your job really was. Even if you do everything right, you will simply lose the money if the buyer isn't 'satisfied' - often the case is that buyer wants just to save money.

As a buyer you have to be real: nobody is making you a great original logo with source files for $5. Read the reviews, think about whether it's possible to fairly deliver the service you're interested in for the money seller wants and then decide whether it's real or not. You can find there lot of scammers, but also lot of good people that will do awesome job for really good prices

I've use Fiverr many many many times and I see their is a problem. If you do get a poor job back the vendors at fiverr, they will beg you not to give them a bad rating. So I leave a good rating because for what I paid how can I not. Wish Fiverr would put a stop to their vendor base begging for 5 star reviews which makes us feel awkward. I also have had many very good projects completed with fiverr vendors. I give it over all a thumbs up.

I've been buying on the site for like 4 years. I've mostly ordered voice overs and art work which I always end up fixing it to my liking.
Since I'm already aware that the sellers are usually students and non professionals.
The fees went from $1 to $2, then lately tax fees. OK. If there's added taxes just like Amazon or any other store. Then they should add a cart to their site.
I discussed about my bulk orders and their opinion about single payment fees before but I was denied.
I feel stupid bringing it up again now that there's added tax. So simply I quit.
If you order often, like 20+ orders a month it is better to hire one of those professionals who charge hourly rate. Because you will end up paying more on fiverr.
Because with goods transactions, ex. Today I bought 5 clothes clothes from amazon, each has 0.65 tax which is govt. Tax law.
Shipping was $5.99 fixed, or UPS $9.99 or free shipping.
Why should Digital goods from same store cost like $3 each... up to $50 to ship/deliver bulk items?

I've ordered about 8 "gigs"... had some really good work done and have only had one bad gig that totally didn't deliver what they had promised, and I gave them a correspondingly bad review. However, reaching out to Customer Service for a different issue has been a major pain in the@#$. They take a VERY long time to respond and then finally come up with an answer that doesn't even match your question.

I agree with the comments about potentially exploiting talented individuals for little pay but hey, no one if forcing folks to sign up to sell their skills and it does provide a commercial arena to build ones experience. What I have the biggest issue with is the fact that they use copyrighted artwork and music illegally potentially putting the buyer at risk for legal action and damages. I have notified them of this on several occasions and still they offer gigs like "The Minions" BE VERY CAREFUL - it doesn't matter that they sold it to you, if you use it, you own that use and are subject to legal actions against you.

I used fiverr a lot of times, tried different sellers/gigs and had both positive and negative experiences
Positive. A lot of sellers, various and very interesting gigs, cheap cost - 5 bucks for everything. And easy to cancel the order if seller failed to deliver on time
Negative. A huge number of scam sellers. My examples, I bought 500 twitter subscribers from US but got only 200, mainly bots and part not from America. Or translation, seller sent me german translation of my article and i'm pretty sure he used Google or something. But no chances to prove something to Customer support

If you guys ever liked the Fiverr, it's especially because of honest sellers as me. I have drawn hundreds of portraits so far and made families, couples, kids and lonely people happy. Best quality for a low price and it was not for the money at all, I was having fun.

But I won't be on Fiverr anymore and please don't prefer working with them either. They are actually making their profit on freelancers by taking %20 of our revenues (this is too much to be fair) but have a look at this case to see their true face and how freelancers are being treated.

I've got a warning on my Gig to remove the "Simpsons" word from my Gig description. In fact "Simpsons style" is the name of the style and adopting this style is not against the copyrights act. Due to copyrights act A STYLE can't be a property of anyone! No body can have the copyrights of Manga style drawing, or Impressionism or Surrealism. This would be ridiculous. I have removed the word from my Gig title anyways, their codes which was supposed to guide me on the process malfunctioned when I was trying to fix the Gig but I have managed it. But then it appeared that still there is a "Simpsons" word in the "Gig description" but not in the Title and My Gig was removed immediately without further notifications or discussions and I have never been allowed to edit and restore it again. My access to it forbidden permanently and I hardly could get my FAQs and Description texts from Customer Support by an email. I have been working on it for years and invested lots for backlinks. I could build my own website and my own trademark easily with the money I have invested and they have cut from my revenue so far. I am very upset for it but especially for how I have been treated later.

I was not obsessed to get my Gig back, (This was a big shame on them and I can't keep working with them and risk my future investments so I have decided to built my own website) but I am surprised after I see how they ignore their faults in this case. I've just kept investigating the matter and found out some facts.

Here are the facts I have discovered about the process which took several days with 3 different support staff and lots of email traffic.

1. I am not warned and/or guided PROPERLY

2. Their codes MALFUNCTIONED in the fixing process.

3. Removing the "Simpsons" word would solve the issue in the first place. But they have tried to manıpulate me on this matter and told my drawings violates the copyrights as well. This is not true. Even if it is true, violator images could be removed not the whole Gig.

4. My Gig was removed immediately after saving the Gig so I didn't have a complete chance to make it right. They could contact me and tell me about the consequences properly. I was shocked when I saw they have "removed" the Gig and won't let me edit and restore it.

5. It is still possible to restore the Gig, by removing whatever they think against the copyrights but they don't want to do that for a reason that they don't share with me. In fact they don't have a valid reason but they want to oppress their freelancers to save from their expenses. This way is easier for them than helping freelancers to remove anything which is against the copyrights.

6. Customer support haven't actually read what I have written at all, they are obsessed with some wrong ideas on copyrights act and never want to learn or think about it. Never talked on the points which they are wrong and I am right. Never accepted their faults on this matter. Never discussed or explained my points properly. Just keep telling the same thing: "Your Gig violated the copyrights and won't be restored."

They are just ignoring these facts and never have a word on them no matter how hard I try.

By the way still there is dozens of Gigs on the Fiverr which includes "Simpsons" word on both titles and descriptions and these artists are adopted the similar styles we call "Simpsons Style" but they don't have any actions on them. (Which is the right thing because they are nor violating the act). They advice me to "report" them instead!

I am very upset. They have just wasted my time, efforts and investments on this Gig which took years. Their decision is ridiculous and don't even try to offer any valid reasons. When I try to explain this to myself, I find these words: OPPRESSION, DISCRIMINATION, EXPLOITATION. I hope these are not on their company vision and mission.

I wish the best for you my friends. Thank you for reading this post, thinking on it and for making your judgements. I have been pushed to think on very essential values humankind have after seeing their attitude. I am upset but mostly I am afraid after I saw how people can easily ignore and refuse to think and act according to moral reasons. I want to believe that we, the humanity still have some unique and common values as WISDOM and JUSTICE.

Please contact me if you want to act on these matters as a freelancer either. We may constitute a syndicate or something.

Best Regards.

Fivver is one of those site where you have to take small steps in using a seller. After using fivver a few times, I relized that $ 5.00 gigs was the bare minimum service for most sellers. The more you want done the more it's going to cost. Yes, there are some sammer on there, but you have to order with caution. When working eith a fivver seller, know what you want. Be able to communicate that in great detail with seller. If you don't give detail of your project the seller want know what your project needs are. Communication is the #1 key factor in using fivver. When a seller doesn't deliver on time or communicate with you, cancel the order and try someone else. It's nothing lost, because fivver will refund your account. You then take your refund and try another seller.
Over the past couple of years since I've been using the service, I have had some good 5 star service and serveal canceled orders. But overall, I have found fivver to be a great business tool for those who work on a small to no budget. With anything shop with caution. Some of the thing I've had done:
1. Business phone line greetings
2. Facebook advertisement
3. Flyers
4. Logos
5. Fundraiser Donation letter
6. Product mockup
7. Product package design
And more

Great way to make a quick $5 as long as you have something of value to offer and it's in demand. The worst thing about this site though, is that when you do successfully make a sale, they place your payment on hold for 2 weeks! After that you can then withdraw through paypal, but keep in mind Fiverr does keep $1 so you really only get $4
