If you order a larger model of TV from First Class Tvs, you will receive a followup phone call informing you that you are expected to pay an additional charge to cover shipping insurance. Nothing about this policy is listed on the product page, the same product page that explicitly advertises "This product qualifies for FREE SHIPPING". They justify this by claiming A) the shipping is free but the insurance is not, and B) that this information is available on their Shipping Policy page. It should be noted that the Truck/Air Freight Policy on the Shipping Policy page is vague and unclear as to what products require additional insurance costs. And again, there is NOTHING on the product page to suggest that the product you are buying (in my case, a Samsung 75" Q90R) is subject to additional charges. So I find myself on the phone, having just spent a huge amount of money on a TV, only to learn that I am now expected to pay an extra 6% ($225 for a $3500 purchase), at a point of vulnerability over the phone where I cannot properly assess this significant additional charge in my purchasing decision. They also claimed that they do not list the cost of insurance on their site because it is dependent on your shipping location. However, if they can immediately calculate the insurance cost while this followup is happening over the phone, then they are absolutely capable of doing that during the checkout process on their website. After some back and forth, they reduced the total cost of my order by $75, but that still leaves $150, a significant amount of additional charge, that I was not expecting to pay when I ordered my TV.
If you want to charge shipping insurance to your customers, that is fine. But the lack of transparency when you do that is complete and utter bull$#*!. If they had been upfront about the fact that my purchase would actually cost me $3725, then I would have nothing but good things to say about my experience. Every eligible product page should include language that says additional charges will apply. And those additional charges should be included at the checkout process, not over a phone call after the order has been made. To do anything less than that is exploitative, predatory, and immoral. Do not let this bull$#*! continue.
