Truly horrific experience and a waste of money.
May 30, 2023

Truly horrific experience and a waste of money. Please do NOT believe the slick reviews and marketing. I received terrible service. Yes, the slapdash resume they produced definitely looks more tailored than my original one but it is not worth anything like $600 (I think the woman who did the work probably spent a total of 90 mins plugging in key words and revising the format). It will have to do until the happy day I find a professional who is TRULY interested in working with me to create a good resume.

Here is the background story, I am an IT professional earning good six-figure salaries. All of my job offers for the past couple of decades were from resumes I developed. I was looking to improve the quality of the resume and hopefully enter a new stage in my career so I contacted this company and everything (initially) was fine and dandy.

Then the disaster occurred. They paired me with an old school writer, heavy handed and condescending, whose methods were better oriented to the 1980s hiring practices than anything currently used in Technology. When I requested a new resume writer, who actually was familiar with IT and had worked with other IT professionals, they assigned a new person (took over a week) who again knew NOTHING about Technology (she asked 'what is Linux?' - Is she not able to do a Google search?). At the first meeting with this individual, she complained that she had to take on my resume, implying that her other clients were her 'real work' and mine was just an hassle (nice customer service).

This woman was disagreeable and not interested in putting any effort into revising my resume. My impression was she was trying to get rid of the work as soon as possible. When I asked for revisions (that I had been assured by their customer rep would be forthcoming - see the email, below) the writer made it clear she had no intention of revising the resume - and so they transferred me to a THIRD person.

This is what was promised by the customer rep:
"While our website states a 1 week unlimited revision period, we do not limit you to just 1 week. Your writer will work with you on any edits/revisions until you are 100% satisfied with your resume. Your writer will also be very responsive during your writing process and you will be in communication with them throughout. Once you have received your first draft, you may schedule another phone consultation with your writer to discuss any revisions that you would like your writer to complete."

This is Completely and 100% untrue. They were not responsive. They were not interested in my satisfaction. There was only one phone consultation and it was so unpleasant that I wanted nothing more to do with this individual. Very disagreeable experience.

They also promised lots of additional material that would help me customize my resume for specific job positions. The one page PDF they sent was a joke. It had text like this (and this is an exact copy of what they sent): "The title is your target position; change it as needed based on job posting. These are three subtitles or three major keywords/core competencies under the title; change as needed." This is information you can find anywhere on the Web, there is nothing new or helpful here.

If you are very young, starting off on your career, and you have money to burn, then perhaps this company will help improve your resume. HOWEVER, if you are a professional, with an established and successful career - BEWARE, this company is as close to scammers as I have ever encountered. I am sharing this review widely to prevent other people from being burned.

Unprofessional Experiance
December 8, 2021

My experiance with my writer is 1-2 stars. The fairly decent end product is the only reason I'm rating 3 stars. When I first consulted my writer, I was given a 5-7 day timeframe for the resume. I reached out when I still hadnt heard anything by day 9 and I did not recieve it until day 13. To say the first draft of the resume in question was ruff is an understatement. I can let the general errors and unnessessary info slide but there were entire sections and key words that shouldnt have been anywhere near my resume. These keywords not only had nothing to do with my field but are only ever used for a very specific field and I was astonished that a "professional" resume writer would randomly use them. When I asked her about it I was told she got me mixed up with another client and put their information on my resume. My confidance in my writer was very thin as we moved to my LinkedIn profile which I was told would take her a day or two. I didn't hear from her until three days after she should have had it done saying she still did not have it done. And a few days after that, still having heard nothing, I called support asking for a different writer. Unfortunatly the person I was talking to blew me off and informed me they reached out to my writer who wanted to call me. I asked what that would accomplish and again I was brushed off and they ended the call. 5 minutes later my writer calls me and lo and behold she just happened to be working on my profile right then! Everything was finally done two days after that and luckily I found no errors with my LinkedIn but then again, Im not great with resumes and stuff hence me using Find My Profession. Everything looks fine to me, certainly better than what I could have done on my own but based on my experiance with my writer I can't tell if her writing skills are as bad as her realiablitity.

Tip for consumers:

If you have a questionable writer, demand a new one asap so you can feel more confidant with the end product.

UPDATE: Trying to punch significantly above their weight...
November 28, 2020

Original review below.
Following this, Lindsay contacted me and offered to work with me personally. We discarded the original material from the previous writer and started fresh. Completely different experience. Top notch service. The quality of the work was outstanding and Lindsay offered very valuable insight along the way.
Extremely satisfied with what I got.

The moral of the story is that if you don't like what you get the first time, work with them, it's absolutely worth it.

The communication is good and they mean well, and they are probably more than adequate for mid-career work. Unfortunately, they market themselves as executive resume writers, and that, they are not. Here is my experience in detail so you can draw your own conclusions.
I am currently an executive at a Vice President level in a large public company, looking to transition to the next level (CIO). I was assigned a resume writer and as early as the introductory call, it quickly became apparent that she was unaware of the industry (IT) and was creating a resume focusing on skills and strengths significantly below what a top IT executive would be expected to have. I showed my resume to my colleague and he jokingly noted that they missed putting that I was experienced in Word and Excel, while mentioning very little around leadership and strategy.
In addition to that, the resume had style issues (granted those may be subjective) as well as grammatical mistakes. The linkedin profile link at the top of it linked to someone else's profile. We went back and forth a few times with suggestions - and after it became apparent that I was now doing the writing and we were not getting anywhere, I decided to just stop wasting my time. I asked that we transition to the linkedin profile. I specifically asked that I review the information before it is made public on the profile. They base the profile on the information in the resume, and that had some stuff that was too specific for a public profile (budgets managed, specific technologies, etc). I made sure they understood my concerns, and why I needed to review the profile before it's published. It was supposed to be done in 48 hours, I hadn't heard for over a week, checked a couple of times only to get a variant of "the dog ate my homework" and then finally, I got the email that the profile was ready, and live, without my specifically requested review. I frantically clicked the link and sure enough, it had all of the details I specifically asked not to make public. In addition to those details which I frantically started deleting, the profile was basically cut and pastes from the resume which really didn't make much sense in that context.

Honestly, for over $1200, it was very disappointing. I thought I was getting the top of the line (as opposed to other companies offering 500-750 packages). It wasn't worth it. I subsequently found out alternatives for $2000 - $3500. Honestly, I would pay the difference and get better service.

Again, this isn't an attitude thing, they try their best. I really jus think they should be operating a couple of organizational layers below what they are targeting.

Solid Recommendation
August 27, 2020

Find my profession-
I believe in providing balanced feedback on any review I give and so I want to provide just that to anyone who comes across my review in considering their purchase. The resume (in my opinion) is to quickly (6-10 seconds) grab the hiring person's attention that hooks them to gain an interview.
I am a tenure successful surgical sales rep who was looking for an edge in a very competitive market space. I turned to Find My Profession after reading the many highly ranked reviews and although it's an expensive service ($700 and up) compared to other services out there; I choose to work with them under the condition that the writer knew the medical device field. After understanding their processes and them being flexible with my time and accommodating with my communication preference, I was assigned to a writer. The writer was very good with searchable words, capturing phrases and combining them with tons of information and successes I had achieved. The layout was very good and impressive as well. The finished product and feedback that was given to me was it was "very wordy" and was being told; its too much information and 2 pages are completely full with little white spacing. After a few months of pressure testing with the new resume; the results were not good.

I reached out to the CEO, Mike Podesto and had long conversation and explained my frustrations and provided balanced feedback on the experience and outcome. After a few days of conversing we agreed and disagreed on a few topics and situations. But, in the end of our conversation, whatever final decision I decided he made it clear he would honor it. We came to an agreement to rewrite my resume line by line working together for 2 plus hours every other day for the past 1.5 weeks to make sure we get it right.
Mike asks tons of questions and challenges my responses in a constructive manner (when necessary) to produce the best statement for that point to get across. I was extremely impressed with Mike's patience, logical, consistent, professionalism and have the willingness to work with someone like myself that can come across very critical, detailed oriented and sometimes narrow minded in the sense that I had missed somethings which he was able to catch. Mike went above and beyond by even reaching out to 5 different recruiters for overall feedback which I thought was thinking outside the box and really having my best interest at heart.
Find my profession does have many challenges of having to manage so many high levels of expectations in so many industries, specialties, seniority levels, customer personalities, and overall resume search outcomes that it really can be difficult to manage them at 100% but I will say they really do their best to accommodate each individual in working together in my situation to make sure I am happy and that the outcomes I receive or as I say (pressure tested) is received as in a positive light and only time will tell. I would absolutely use this service again but I would recommend managing expectations and patience during the experience as they really try to make it the best possible resume for you.
