“A cesspool of scammers”

Susan L.
1/4/24

I had a one-year subscription to eharmony, and in that time received about 10 matches, half of which were scammers, looking for money or online sex. I reported everyone of them and the selection never got better. I learned not to trust anyone on this site. Do not join. There is no screening at the eharmony site and there are many many bad actors on the app.

Title was a mouthful, yet I feel it is necessary to give a proper back drop story. I've been involved in numerous online sites on and off like most folks. The experience with these guys was par for the course. A lot of the problems spring from the types of people using the app and the tech support people who review everything done by participants. I joined up and paid in October 2020. Like anyone new I had a few women send me messages and several view my profile. November came and I stopped logging in until January. I met several quality women in the winter and dated one for a couple of months. We broke up and I logged back on in March. I started to notice that my profile was hardly ever viewed like it was in the fall and winter. People had stopped flirting as well. The interest level was really non existent. Another thing I did hate technically about e-harmony was the ability for people (or tech people to make it appear it was someone) to block others so easy. For instance, when I met the woman I dated for two months in January, I announced on my profile I was in a relationship. So, that I could be kind and fair to people. A viewer of my profile did not like my honesty and regurgitated my statement to me in a message with another message attached to it that she'd blocked me. The site has a pathetic way of announcing you're blocked by stating: 'so and so says GOODBYE.' Once they use that feature you cannot send them a message. I got blocked by a woman I never contacted. I suggested to admin they needed to change this feature so that no 'bad blood' would make the experience aggravating for users. They could not understand why I'd purvey such healthy dignity in how I was to be treated. I also suggested a couple of weeks ago they use a feature like Tinder (even though Tinder is garbage) to set it up where my matches could only be women who had indicated they were physically attracted to my photo or I was in their age range. It makes sense to only want to flirt with people you know would flirt back. I got a response stating that 'they want to give us as many matches as possible and LET US DECIDE'. What that told me was they wanted to keep up appearances that there were more good matches than in reality. I don't have magazine cover looks, yet when I go out in every day life 50% find me attractive 50% don't. I do about average like most well rounded men would do. You get on a site like this. One week you feel like you have something to offer. 4 months later for 8 weeks you feel dog, ugly. Maybe I just went through a batch of good women, then a batch of bad ones. It was just real peculiar how that worked. When I paid for 9 months I announced I was not renewing during the onset of the contract. I'm a guy in my forties looking to date younger out of necessity in wanting a family of my own. The women I encountered on E-harmony were mostly socially inept, insecure 'church' type people. Those tend to be more restrictive in things like age. This is not a good site for seekers of age gap relationships. No one told me that... I just sensed it. Then again it's hard to know if my profile was hidden at times or I was intentionally mismatched with women in the end so I'd crave more matches and pay for a new subscription. Two days before my paid membership expired I attempted to announce on my profile I was no longer a paying customer and could not communicate if messaged. I want to be fair to people. I got an email from tech support stating I was not allowed to announce it. Seems as paying customers we have the right to announce what we want to announce. Makes me wonder why they don't condone integrity. That same day I opened my message box to see that I'd been blocked again. This time for liking someone's comment. No message, just pressing the 'thumbs up' button. I know there are some grasping people online, but still felt it was improbable someone would block me for that. I honestly didn't remember even viewing their profile. Usually when you do there is a mechanism on the left of your profile showing who you had interaction with. I don't remember seeing the 'ghost' member who had supposedly blocked me on that list anywhere. I remembered I accidently set up two accounts from October. It appeared tech support was up to some shenanigans trying to get me angry again about being blocked by a member I barely contacted, if I had at all. Before that I had announced on my profile I was not renewing and was going inactive. The pattern was as the time before. When I either announced I was going inactive or taking a break then, all the sudden, I'd supposedly get blocked by someone. I also announced on my profile that morning: "This account is inactive. Membership expired." I got a notice that my new profile message was not accepted. I went back and wrote: This account is inactive. I never got another message telling me to change it. I think they realized they couldn't win. The same type of thing happened with my account on Match.com about a decade ago. From my accidental first account I noticed the day after my legitimate, used account expired I got a message claiming a woman two hours away had sent me a message. After months of not getting anything happening on that account from both ends. I already deleted my used account. Still working to delete my accidental one, I had to use a password. When I requested an email to allow me to change it to finally delete, it never arrived in my inbox. Pathetic. The tech support people who run these sites are vindictive, insecure people who want to control others. They lose their crap when they come across someone assertive. You have to decide whether you want to leave your dating fate up to these types of factors you can't control compared to walking up and introducing yourself on the street. I finish this review better off knowing I'll go down to the local coffee shop and get a smile and a flirty message from the barista behind the counter. I'll do that instead to get a sense of what is real in how I fit into the dating paradigm.

Tip for consumers:
Vindictive and insecure tech support monkeys. Not good for age gap dating.

I used eHarmony for a couple of years and liked it because of the matching algorithm, the detailed profiles we could write and access, and the options to tailor our matches to our preferences such as our religion. I had quite a few dates from the site. Because it was also rather pricey, I had to cancel my subscription. A couple of years later, I went back to try again. However, in the interim, they had changed their system so we could not be matched according to our religion anymore. Instead, they put in general categories like "Christian." When I found out about the change soon after I had re-subscribed, I tried to cancel and get a refund, but they wouldn't do that. I explained in written communication and over the phone that I couldn't just date and marry anybody, I had to date within my religion, that it was imperative to my beliefs, and that they had changed their site so I could no longer match with those of my faith. They said I should just write in my profile what my religion was and whom I would date. I explained that I had already tried that and guys had completely ignored it and contacted me anyway, besides which the point of the website was to help you find a love match and what they were suggesting I do instead was looking for a needle in a haystack of other religions. They were not understanding at all. I could tell the guy I was speaking with either didn't understand the problem, didn't care, or both. So I disputed the charge on my credit card. They turned around and charged me through PayPal instead. Now, years later, I thought I would give them another chance regardless because they were so helpful in the beginning and it's a popular site. I had to go through the whole setup quiz just to find out they have not changed their site back to its former excellence. If your religion is not a priority for you, you may still find the site useful, but for me and those like me who value their religion, it's lost its value.

Feeling good about eHarmony, been using the site for around a month and have a date set up with a really nice girl. A bit nervous to be honest as last date I had was through wejustfit.com a few weeks after I split with my ex girlfriend in March. Check the site out and run some searches, if you get good results then you'll be setting dates up like me in no time at all. Well worth it! Exciting times!

I've been joking with my circle of friends recently that the only way I can get dates is using a bunch of quality dating sites together (having different accounts and getting emails from each when I get a message). EHarmony is one for the list of memberships in my opinion, works well in Stockport. I also really like WeJustFit.com, in case youre interested in other trust worthy options to add to your own list! Good luck

My opinion is that this is another piece of trash way for someone to make money. In comparison of 'dating sites' a few months ago, Consumer Reports had this rated among the best. Guess they missed it this time. I've been on this site for 'bout 7 months.

I've had about 3 (maybe) appropriate matches-with long waits in between for ANY matches. I went 2000 miles to meet someone-turns out he had already met someone but didn't want to mess up my trip. We had a very nice time anyway. (no-not a hook-up thing). I've had a few uncomfortable communications with matches-what disturbed me is that this person I went to meet, and his hopeful as well, had similar uncomfortable communication with these same people.

I rated it average. Average isn't good! It means it's like the other sites that are worthless. Oh Well! I probably am done with 'dating sites'. Good luck. Too bad piano bars went out!

EHarmon works but you need to give it time. Its the same for all the really good sites though; wejustfit.com, match, etc, etc, etc. You have to be patient or you will get nowhere fast.

The difference with a site like this is the class. It's not just another rubbish looking site, everything is fresh and clean looking. I'd say only wejustfit.com or match give you that same quality feel, for want of a better word. It really does stand out and with high member numbers to boot, it's a good place to meet people looking for relationships.

Sorry to say but im not that taken by eHarmony. So far ive tried it, wejustfit.com and tinder (yuk) and eHarmony wouldnt take the top slot at this point. Maybe it will get better with time but its been a while already and even though two dates arent bad (the ladies were lovely and we're going to stay friends) im just not taken by it all. Keep your options open, that's my advice folks:-)

Wont bore you with the deets but im a single parent, my friends are all married + most have kids + the more time goes on the less opportunities I have to get out there + meet people. I work pretty hard too + as im a hair dresser it's not like im meeting cute guys day in day out. I went for eHarmony just because I have no imagination but will try wejustfit.com soon too as a few girls in the salon totally swear by it so need to see what the fuss is all about. But yeah, online dating is convenient, not traditional but it just fits better for the contemporary woman IMHO x

Unlike other sites, Eharmony delivers the matches to you, and you choose from that, it does a great job at matching common interests and character traits, but does a HORRIBLE job on appearance, it leaves appearance out of the equation, delivering woman who are WAY overweight and very UN-Attractive. I'm 57,140, slim and I take care of myself, the few ladies I find that are physically similar, most don't reply, they don't even view my profile, leaving me to believe that many members are NOT active, And EHarmony conveniently leaves out the time stamp when a member is last active, most dates have this!, but not EHarmony!

EHarmony is a nice site with a lot of nice people but ive given it a year (had highs and lows) and decided to move on. Its true what they say - what works for one doesnt always work for all. I'm going to try wejustfit.com as a few reviews say it's much better than the other sites that are available, so feeling optimistic about that one. Onwards and upwards!

Ive had a couple of dates on E harmony so I prob shouldnt complain (esp as I know people that have used internet dating agencies for longer than me and never even had a date) but I still think the site is missing something. Ill just stick with wejustfit.com I think, that does everything I need and has more search variety in my area anyways.

So ive been using eHarmony for a little over four months now and generally I like it. It's probably sitting 2nd on my all time list mainly because the number of members is so big. FYI in case your interested:

I was starting to think the whole online dating process was almost hopeless. And incredibly high percentage of the women I met did not look very much like their photos and you will find a few lunatics too. Plus it is frustrating that on most sites you are getting almost nowhere. There are only a few dating sites which are better than average (eHarmony and Mingle2day were the two best dating sites I have used) but if you get easily fustrated and impatient don't uns ANY dating site. It takes patience.

I've been trying to find love on eHarmony for what seems like forever. It's a great site but im not sure it can still be seen as the only one youll ever need. If youre serious about finding a relationship then you have to be open to new ideas and I recently joined wejustfit.com and im finding it very different (in a good way). Its made me realise that the days of eHarmony being the one stop shop for love and romance are long gone, theres so much innovation and so many options that are just as good even if they dont have the same budget for tv commercials. My 2017 new year resolution is to 'branch out' and so thats what im trying to do now. OK... rant over!

I think eHarmony are a victim of their own success because you hear, read and watch so many good things about them and their ability to help singles like me find their 'other half ', and you believe you'll at worst have lots of fun dates, and at best be married within no time! I've had one date on the site and it was a bit of a snoozefest lol! Anyway, switched to wejustfit.com after a friend recommended it as a place for serious daters (makes me sounds boring lol!) and that site is on another level, definitely sticking with it.

One would think a big site like eHarmony would have members in every nook and cranny of the country. Yet here I am, admittedly in a small hamlet in Wales, and I have better options on my old dating service (WeJustFit). Come on, I know you can do better!

First of all let me say I like eHarmony and really believe they moved online dating mainstream. But I feel like theyve got lazy. I mean how is it really all that better from other busy websites like WeJustFit.com or some of the others? I'm not sure the site is all that better than it was five years ago. Sure, it looks more modern and works on mobile but id like to see some innovation from online datings biggest name. I still use it because theyre the market leader, but id like to see them move things to the next level like they once did!

This site claims to be one of these thats responsible for a really high number of weddings so I figured it would be a good option. I hadnt really considered online dating, thought it was a bit sad in all honestly, but was at a wedding recently and it turned out the couple getting married had met on a site called WeJustFit.com. I guess it got me thinking again and I decided id give online dating a shot. EHarmony was the obvious choice, if lots of people end up married because of them they must know their business. Its been a few weeks now and there certainly arent any wedding bells yet. Ive been on a date but it was coffee and the guy looked nothing like his picture. He was nice and picked up the check but he pretty much sums up my online dating life so far, politely disappointing. You get lots of messages on the site and there is definitely a large selection of men to choose from but they dont all reply and the ones that contact me just arent quite what im looking for so far. Im a bit of a chunky girl but still thought it would be easier than this, after all being big just means theres more of me to love ha! Maybe I need to consider another site or just consider my online dating idea all over again. Ill give it until the end of my month and decide but dont expect prince charming to turn up at your door straight away, no matter how many marriages they claim to have created.

Split with boyfriend a couple of months ago after three years together and been trying to get back into the swing of the dating scene with a couple of dating sites (this one and wejustfit.com were both highly recommended so went with those). The good thing is that as a girl you don't have to work to hard to get chances for dates. The challenge is more picking the right ones and avoiding the total dorks and the players LOL! Its a real confidence boost though and is a really good way too build your ego back up again and make you realise that there are other people out there and they also find you hot or interesting or whatever. Makes me feel good anyway and its harmless and everyone is doing it now, even my mum has used an online dating site called primetimelove or something like that! Shes loving it, I'm proud of her ha ha! Plus just because you go on a date and don't fall madly in love it doesn't mean you cant be mates with the guy, I've already met some pretty cool guys that ill prob stay in touch with even if we dont date for proper. So yeah, if you've been hurt of dumped or you're lonely and wondering if you've still got it LOL then check it out and use it as a way to get back in the dating game, thats what i think at least.

Like many of you here, I created a profile and didn't pay at first, I went to my profile and attempted to post my email for matches to message me without me having to pay, of course the didn't let me scam them, too bad I thought to myself.

So I went on and went to the purchasing page, I saw one for 11.95 a month and got super exited and didn't even bother to see that they give you a higher discount for the longer time you subscribe, I ACCIDENTALLY put in my credit card (which should NOT count as me purchasing it!) and clicked submit and didn't read anything else and purchased a plan.

So I started using it and I wanted to search ALL of the profiles on the site to just pick out the supermodels and ignore everyone else (I am the best looking man alive, weighing 160 and being 5' 2" and it makes me puke to have to look at anyone who weights over 110 pounds) but they didn't let me do it. Very upset I called them to complain, they explained the process and that the main reason for people not finding someone is because they do that. I got upset and hung up on the rep, what does his 35 year old research of relationships have to do with anything!

I kept using the site and googled getting a refund from them, on another site called liesfordummies.com it said that I had 14 days to use it, find someone and get my money back. I did so and messaged all my matches and told them I was getting my money back and to message me somewhere else like in my email, they all blocked me for some reason. Am sure it was eharmony telling all my matches to conspire against me! I called at the end of the 14 date and expected them to give me a refund, they denied my request saying that they only have a 3 day cancellation period and that they can't agree to anything other web pages show, its not fair for them not to honor a request give by other webpages who post anything that may not be true. I then requested to speak to a supervisor and then his supervisor thinking I could break their policies like I do with all other businesses but they didn't let met speak to another supervisor because they could only be contacted through email.

I am now upset, NO ONE should be made to agree to some terms and conditions when I didn't even read them! I dislike eharmony for having rules and not letting me do whatever I want which is why I posted this review, that outta teach them a lesson and get them out of business!

Tip for consumers:
Read terms and conditions of service and don't sign up for 24 months thinking you can just call after 30 days and cancel what YOU agree for and get just one month for the same discount.

You see eHarmony everywhere so you assume its going to be the best company for internet dating. And overall, id say it lived up to my lofty expectations. They claim to have the mostmarriages coming from their site and claim that they are the number one, and its hard to disagree on one fact alone the sheer amount of people on the site is crazy. The only site that comes close in my experience is wejustfit.com (well worth checking out too if you have a chance). When you have lots of customers youve cracked it, as thats what people are looking for the more members on the site, the better opportunity for finding love. But on top of that this site has some other nice elements that make it easier to use as well as having good customer services (or so ive read). So overall if your thinking of joining up then youll not go wrong I dont think. The number of users speaks for itself.
