When I relocated to my current address on April 8,2024, I learned that the provider for my Home Internet service, Verizon, did not provided the service in my new area of residence, I was forced to find another provider. I searched quite a bit, but the only provider I could find in my area that was giving service to residents in my area was EarthLink. I then ordered service from EarthLink. Service began only on April 11,2024 when their router arrived. I was left to set everything up so I would have Internet. Thus began the story of disappointment.
EarthLink makes sure that the customer will be able to contact them over by calling in; email addresses to EarthLink all turned out to be not working for incoming emails. Calling in was a problem. Sometimes, I would be asked to leave a number for a return call, but that did not guarantee that I would get one. Many times, I would call and be left waiting for quite some time, only to have the connection drop. I discovered that I could not plug my landline phone in without ending the Internet service, so I stopped using it. However, there were technical problems, but more than once, the total absence of common courtesy left me feeling that I was stuck with the worst service ever. I also noticed that I received frequent messages that I had consumed half of my data allowance and needed to add to it. I did that frequently, but even when I was toward the end of my month's service, those messages kept coming in at such a frequency that I was wondering if I didn't sign up for the wrong service plan. I saw an article about how EarthLink offered a streaming plan called EarthLink TV, so I called Customer Service to ask about it. An agent said she would investigate and call me back -- but of course, to date, I have not received any such call. I saw how much the service was costing me, so I sent a letter via USPS Certified Mail stating that I was ending my service with EarthLink because I found the service unsatisfactory, which was no understatement. Today, June 12,2024, I was notified that EarthLink charged me for another month! I have no intention nor desire to maintain such terrible service with such rude, inconsiderate staff as I discovered from EarthLink. I would have emailed my intention to end service, but EarthLink hides from its customers, so sending the letter was my only option because if I called in, I would have ended up arguing with the disagreeable staff.
I am attaching the following documents:
1) My letter terminating service on May 21,2024
2) Charge that EarthLink made to my account after my termination date
3) Text messages received from EarthLink today about charge (further communication impossible, a policy of EarthLInk towards paying customers)
4) Notice of beginning of service on April 12,2024
I have lived on both sides of the ocean. EarthLink rates at the very bottom of the list!
Any company that uses only noreply email addresses, email addresses that go to unmonitored stations or are otherwise dysfunctional for customers, and no fax number is a company that hides from its paying customers. Add to that the incredible rudeness that Customer Service gave at EarthLink and the way that so many things did not work properly when I had nobody to turn to, I had better service while living in the Third World; this was the absolute worst of them all!
Switched to Xfinity with no regrets
ZERO stars is more appropriate. This company buys/rents its internet from another company like century link, AT&T, etc. or which ever company is in your area. Then they cap your data speeds and charge you the same price or higher for the full speed they rented. They pray on people that aren't tech savvy or know the jargon. For example, they have been ripping my 70 year old mother off for over a year until i recently was over to her house and investigated why here internet she is paying 60 a month for was so lousy. Century link in her area offer speed up to 100 mbps for 50 a month and 940 mbps for 75 a month. EarthLink rents from century link in her area. My mother even has century link equipment provided by EarthLink, they tricked my mother into paying 60 bucks a month for a capped speed of 3 mbps. 3. I wouldn't pay 10 bucks a month for that, let a lone 60. So I had my mom call them and see what was up, they did nothin but lie to her and gave her some bs speech about that is the highest speeds in the area and blah blah blah - LIE. I am a tech, I do understand how it works and "century link doesn't offer speed that low in this area, EarthLink is ripping customers off knowing full well that for 60 bucks a month they could and should have over 100 mb/s for that price. Charging 60/month for 3 mbps should be criminal. No business should be allowed to operate this way. Cant believe they get away with this crap. DONT DO BUSNESS WITH THESE PEOPLE> DONT DO IT> YOU WILL PAY FOR A DOZEN EGGS AND ONLY RECEIVE 2 EGGS, WHILE THEY SELL YOUR OTHER 10 EGGS at THE SAME RATE TO OTHER UNKNOWING CUSTOMERS and THE KICKER IS THEY BOUGHT THE EGGS FROM THE SAME STORE IN YOUR AREA THAT YOU CAN SHOP AT.
