Duckduckgo gives me much more accurate search results than Google! I know that Duckduckgo still uses improving.duckduckgo.com, but this just makes a few anonymous ads. There are very few ads, and they don't use any of your data! You don't even have to make an account! One thing that would be nice would be something like Google Scholar, where only credible websites appear. Much better than any other web browser!
Using either the "-" negative sign or using logical function such as NOT does not eliminate the keywords. This makes a search engine useful. The other issue is the results are become more and more biased towards what's popular in captalist marketing, Bing does this, be different. Searching for best massagers to buy, only shows theragun type massage tools. I can not massage my upper back with those. Haha. And I have no friends.
I love the search engine in that it is private and I am not tracked. The only downside for me is that it does not allow for voice commands like Google. If they would add that feature, it would be perfect!
Google loves to tout as being the forerunner of freedom and transparency when it comes to privacy and giving accurate search results, however when it comes to providing unfiltered content Duck Duck Go is your go to option as it shows you results without tracking you and then targeting you with specific ads that can be detrimental for you!
DuckDuckGo does not store IP addresses or user information. Google has 114,096 – but often the outcome is the same results as DuckDuckGo which has 78 employees.
I've been using ddg from about 9 months, I live in India and it seems to give pretty accurate information and the search results are pretty up to date exactly what I'd expect (most of the times), where it kinda trails behind is Maps, if I search for a specific place, it uses Apple Maps (I do know that Apple respects privacy and is much better in those terms). Apple Maps is basically unusable in India, it does not show any relevant information, ratings or pictures about the place, so I found myself switching to google to perform anything related to finding a place. Rest assured, one of the best private alternatives to Google. I personally use it on Brave browser on Windows/Linux and the ddg app is good enough for Android.
Tip for consumers:
Read the tips for a better search result on ddg's website, they kinda help you out. use google for mapping services.
What I appreciate about this search engine is there is more credibility, unlike the very biased search engine that dominates the marketplace. They provide me with quality results and I have made this my default search engine.
As most of you may be aware, the U.S. federal gov. Mandated that web browsers are required to have a back door for them to access. This is to protect the public against crinimal activity. The last of the browsers that went out without a trace ended back in the late 1990s. I use to have one, but by todays standards, ghost browsers would be timed out or halted my most servers.Tor has a fairly secure browsers, it takes some knowledge to use, and it is slower to surf. Would suggest having a firewall to reduce call back traffic from your own apps. Really good browsers connect outside the states, and re-enter, but alot of risk associated if you dont know what your doing, info. Can be stolen abroad, and possibly no U.S. laws can protect you. Then the U.S. D. H. S. will be monitoring everything as a foreign connection comming into the states.
I love DuckDuckGo. It is so cool. On settings you can use your thumb print. The only downside is that if somebody gets on your phone they can add there finger print
No obvious intrusions no tracking no adds easy access search bar on my homepage. Search results are better than google.
NO search engine can keep you from being tracked Duck might not track but every site you hit does track. Still need to be aware. We can't blame duck for our lack of planned and active protection
When I searched for "quality facts the indisputable facts about racial equality, although outnumbered 9 to 1" DuckDuckGo had the website I was looking for at the top of the search results. I couldn't find the website I was looking for at google or startpage
The website at the top of the DuckDuckGo search results wasn't harmful this time (according to Norton). Below is the website I was looking for. By the way, after reviewing the website (below) some links (that the claims are based on) no longer exist.
https://funnyjunk.com/Equality+fact+time/funny-pictures/*******/
I clicked on the 1st website at the top of the search results then I clicked on a link in the website and I got a message that all the files on my computer were locked; I could only delete the message by hitting ctrl alt Delete and then ending chrome. The search was for "When was the last time Ruth Bader Ginsburg was seen". The 1st website at the top of the search results was jowforums. Com/thread/*******/politics/when-was-the-last-time-ruth-bader-ginsburg-was. Html
Norton safe search works with google.com, Norton safe search doesn't work with duckduckgo.com
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=the+last+time+ginsburg+was+seen&t=hw&ia=web
When was the last time Ruth Bader Ginsburg was seen... Search domain jowforums. Com/thread/*******/politics/when-was-the-last-time-ruth-bader-ginsburg-was. Htmlhttps :// jowforums. Com/thread/*******/politics/when-was-the-last-time-ruth-bader-ginsburg-was. Html When was the last time Ruth Bader Ginsburg was seen?
Previously I was more critical on duckduckgo but I am converting my opinion.
Their search function may not be as good as google but then they are not also compiling a database of everything you do on-line and then further sharing it with other organizations (including the government) behind your back. Our best hope is that we support this tool so that they can hopefully continue to improve it and to provide a counterbalance to organizations that are not interested in maintaining real user privacy.
For those interested in knowing more about this issue I recommend the following podcast:

Went to try out DuckDuckGo and on my very 1st practice test search it gave me results for a trojen website. The kind that locks up your browser and tries to hold you hostage. That's enough for me... too dangerous. I guess google filters these sites out because I just don't have those problems when I use it.
Search any of the 2020 democratic presidential contenders. You will notice that you only have to type the first name and at most three characters of the last name and the auto suggestions will show the persons name. All but one who is gay. Other search engines suggest his name with just his first name.
Browsing is fine but where is my history? Before the 'upgrade' I could access my 'recents' for a quick connection. They were easy to delete. Now I have to input the full search enquiry-a real time waster
Nothing is perfect, but DDG is cleaner and quicker. All the drama over search? Get over it people. You don't wanna use, then don't.
Using DuckDuckGo in Chrome as my default and I have gmail and my only email. I was doing great and then I started having errors getting to sights. I started seeing people complain that DuckDuckGo was the problem but, I could copy the link from my email and go outside of Gmail to Chrome with DuckDuckGo and paste and it worked. Changed default search engine and it worked. Moved over to Foxfire with DuckDuckGo as default and Gmail and the link worked. Moved over to Edge and the Gmail with DuckDuckGo as the default and the link worked. Now the link https://www.pollking.com/. To Google a very "LIBERAL" it privately owned til 2004 then went public but it is still very controlled by Liberals to this site gets a DuckDuckGo and a "Right" hit. So blame DuckDuckGo, NO I do not as this is a fight back issue as Google tries to maintain it very strong foot hold and say it is a DuckDuckGo problem. When in fact it is a Google Chrome road block.
I've read through some of the one-star reviews. They're BS. They describe Google more than duckduckgo. Once I used Google to look the name of what those Russian dolls that fit inside each other (Matryoshka dolls). A half hour later I got an email from a Russian mail-order bride service.
DuckDuckGo is a good website to go on. It's a good website to use if you are a school student with a Chromebook with restrictions on it. However, not all videos from YouTube will be shown.
Update: it's not that useful, but it's decent for porn ig.
Clean layout, good results (not great), MAJOR BENEFIT, you can search on a topic without fear of getting slammed with banner ads related to that topic, which seems to be how Google operates. I would rather stick with good search results from a company that is getting better, than work with better search results from a company that is getting worse.
If you're using Firefox there are themes you can install with the Stylish add-on to make DDG look exactly like Google. We all hate change and prefer the familiar so this helps make the transition easier. My main complaint is the mouse rollover effect where each search result changes color when the mouse is near it is very annoying and makes keyboard scrolling awkward. There should be an option to turn this off. The other thing is that each search result does not have enough of a description or include any available dates to inform me if this is something relevant and recent I want to click on. All the search descriptions only extend out to a quarter of the page where google extends halfway giving more info. I don't want to be forced to click on each search result to see if it's what I'm looking for.
I like DDG and would use it full time if these issues were fixed. I'm completely fed up with Google's intrusive stalking and data mining. I don't want every search I've ever made in my lifetime stored for eternity.
Reviewers talking about DDG hijacking their browsers is just plain rubbish. It sounds like they are newbie computer users with no technical skills and got themselves some malware, or they are trolls. DDG doesn't require any installation or download so how could your browser get hijacked?
Good alternative search engine to some of the more well known. Google is too ad oriented these days and has lost sight of good solid search results. Duck Duck Go and others (prefer BING to Google) are more on target for what this user wants in results.
Also they are anonymous search queries if that is something anyone is concerned about.
I love this places privacy but google is better when it comes to searches.
I use DDG on firefox, and have for about 5 years. I uninstalled it for a day, just to see if the complaints about uninstalling were real, but I had no problems. Is there possibly a download site putting out a bad version or something? I decided to do a review because Avast keeps trying to get me to uninstall it - ever since they partnered with Yahoo. So now I guess I have to start looking for a new anti-virus provider...
Hardly. And Bing works with very respectable algorithms.
But DuckDuckGo is a feature-rich semantic search engine, that gives you countless reasons to leave Google behind. Searches are divided into a classic search, information search, shopping and their own spin-off from Google, "I'm feeling ducky.":: cough::
If you search for a term that has more than one meaning, it will give you the chance to choose what you were originally looking for, with its disambiguation results. For example, searching for the term Apple will give you a long list of the possible meanings including the fruit, the computer company, the bank and many others.
Happy Ducking?
Ron.
