THEIR ALL LIARS!
April 24, 2023

I had to take my mom to her sister's funeral out of state. So I had to finally buy a new car because mine would never get there. I got approved online with Drivetime, $399 down payment $489 I might be off 10 or 15 bucks. I called them 3 times asking if it really was the down payment and monthly payment, because I didn't have anymore than that to bring in. I told her my husband just passed away, my car had no ac and it was in the 90s then, it's breaks was just about completely gone, I needed to buy the vehicle that day. She reassured me each time it was all true and I also had a promotional credit for 1200 so I wouldn't even have to pay my 1st payment. When I got there I had to ask for help because everyone ignored the fact I was standing there. I give the salesman all my info.It was taking a long time. I asked if everything was OK. He said absolutely he was just putting everything in the computer. After over a hour he said I'm sorry mary, but the down payment is gonna be a little higher. Now it's 699.00. I asked why and he could never explain. He went to ask a woman if there was anyway they could get it lower but came back and said it was 799 now! I wasn't to cry and scream! He said let me get the keys, I said I don't want to drive it if I can't buy it. He said he would work on getting it down while I was test driving it. When I got back as soon as I stepped out of the suv he said I've got bad news. I said how much now and he said $1800! So I said we'll I guess everything yall said was nothing but lies to get me in here? I told him I called 3 times and asked was the down payment really $399 and was told yes. I was furious! He then said we'll all our suvs have a down payment of $1800 or more! That he could put me in a smaller and cheaper vehicle but my down payment would still be around $1000! This should be against the law! If I could sue them for lieing and waiting 4 hrs of my time I would! Just a few days later I bought a beautiful suv, the same year as theirs. I paid 650 down payment and 425 a month! These people lie to get you in the store and then raise the down payment and monthly payment. Then act like what ever, that that's the way it is pay it or go home! THIS SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW! They have done this to many many customers and they should be made to stop!

They steal your car, then wreck your credit!
April 16, 2018

Terrible company! My experience with them is the equivalent of a thief robbing your house then suing because they had to pick the lock. I purchased a car from them in 2009, a used Suzuki Aerio, great car by the way, when our finances were at a low ebb and we needed a second vehicle. It needed brakes almost immediately, but good transport. For four years we paid off our payments faithfully, by then we were in better shape, and purchased another vehicle and let my teenage daughter drive it. We got a big tax refund and paid off four payments at once in 2013, leaving us less than a year left on the car. WE THOUGHT! They listed it all as ONE PAYMENT then notified us that we were late the next payment(we thought it was a computer glitch), then 2 weeks later repo-ed the car. Okay, my daughter had just gotten into some trouble(rare for her, but bad enough that we let the car go as punishment), even though we had less than a year to pay. Cut to 2018, I check my credit score and find an $8000+(at least twice the amount we had left to pay) that Drivetime has sold to a collection agency TWO YEARS AFTER re-poing my car that I had paid TWO PAYMENTS ahead on, after never notifying me that they thought I owed on the car,(and I didn't, they owed me $ 600 for two payments they kept when they stole the car) and it is killing my credit! NEVER will I pay this off or darken their door again.
PS. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEEDING File No. 2014-CFPB-0017 is relevant to this case. In it Drivetime was cited for just this kind of abuse and ripoffs. But that does NOT appear to have stopped them. And they will tell you that you must deal with Bridgecrest which handles their loans if you complain, which is hysterical because if you look up the board and CEO of Bridgecrest and the one of Drivetime, you will find EXACTLY THE SAME NAMES! Bridgecrest is a shell company created by Drivetime to send their complaints about loans to and give you more of a run-around, Walk before you deal with this company.
