Terrible Experience
June 12, 2023

Store *******: Worst experience EVER! I Went there today doing my normal couponing. Got to the register and it appeared that my card didnt take, so the cashier asked that i slide my card again, and i did and once again the machine malfunctioned. So i checked my account and sure enough i was charged twice. Once with the coupon total and once with a total before the coupons were added. So the cashier i could say was as nice as ever went to the back and got who i assume was the team lead, she comes out not really knowing whats going on or what to do, she calls the 'store manager' on the phone. This lady had an disgusting, and foul attitude from the start, like i was trying to mislead them. She asked the issue, the young lady tried but dont really know herself, so she gives me the phone. I say as calm as ever, hey ma'am, i was charged twice, no receipt came out nor did a decline slip, the store manager says ' oh well there's nothing we can do, i cant believe whats on your phone, it could be a pending transaction and we dont get paid', im like ok that's fair, but im looking at my phone where, its not pending the transaction has cleared. So i give the phone back to the young lady because there is no resolve talking to her. So i hear the young lady say, she said call the police. So i laugh, because im really in total disbelief that she wants to call the police on me and she is the one thats hostile. So then, the girl is like for what, and i ask to speak to the store manager on the phone again. By now the store manager is hollering and screaming on the phone. I asked her calmly why are you yelling and being nasty, she says cause she's off and we are calling her, so i ask, how is this my fault, and she screams st me, ill be there Monday at 8:30, bring a bank statement and we'll see what we can do. But i have to leave the stuff. Im like thats not going to work for me because ive paid twice and you are being rude, so she hung up on me. Smh. I then tell the young man, hit cash and see what happens. Sure enough, the receipt pops out and shows they do in fact owe me money... Moral of the story, that store managet needs to be FIRED for her attitude and disrespect. What happened to satisfying the customer and then threaten to call the police and she is the one beong nasty. Everybody is not meant to be in management and she is for sure one of those people! Do better DG

Save yourself the trouble
April 3, 2023

If you are a hard working person and want to do well at your job don't waste your time with a place that won't appreciate it. I have worked there all of almost a month because I needed a job inbetween jobs. I was expecting to be treated with respect and kindness and all I got was a lot of backstabbing and unethical behavior. I am a key carrier and whilst I can handle the job with ease, I didn't get the culture I was expecting. I also did not get lunches, but the one time I took one I didn't even have 5 minutes to myself to eat and recoup. The manager did not drug test me either. I was told by a former employee that key carriers are supposed to be drug tested. I was somewhat trained by another key carrier for 2 days(she had been there for 2 months) and then got left to take care of the entire store. If it had been anyone else DG would have been straight out of luck. Thanks to my education and work experience though I was able to pull it together and keep my job and reputation. Another thing is my manager contacted me and said several people had told her that I was just going to up and leave. I told her I had an education and was looking for that line of work but I had no intention of leaving them high and dry which is more than they deserve after being treated as less than human. I had also gone above and beyond and warned her that her new ASM was going to leave as well which had been relayed to me. I didn't want her to be out of 2 important rolls and leave her well...high and dry. But come to find out she released my name to the ASM that I had been conversating with about my situation and her own. The ASM became hostile with me when I brought up the fact that she told the manager before I was ready. Now I know that information spreads like wildfire and I didn't expect anything different with the information I relayed to the ASM, but I was not expecting to be yelled at for the same reason. She told me I had no business airing her dirty laundry but the ASM was the only person I told about this, so not only did she lie to my face but she was trying to start a fight while I was taking care of customers. I was going to talk to her like an adult should, but I never got the chance. Let me remind you that my manager never spilt any names to me but thought it was okay to spill my name to someone who didn't have good intentions. I was also told by the manager that same day that if 4 rolltainers didn't get done then everyone was going to get a write up. So basically everyone's career was laying on my shoulders. The people that I work with are impossible to give tasks to. They don't listen when given instruction and talk back when told to do something they don't want to do. One instance was when I told a cashier that we needed to do recoveries and said in front of a customer that she didn't call me by my name but something hurtful and nasty, just because I told her the objectives I was given. I am also not the only key holder they have so it's not just up to me to make everything go smoothly when all I've ever seen the manager do is talk on her phone most of the time. The manager has also lied to me about how many rolltainers she has done in a span of a morning shift. She said she did 10 rolltainers and then it was 8 and back to 10. So I'm unsure as to how many she actually did. All in all the culture I was told DG had was wrong. I was thrown under the bus and treated like crap and im unsure as to why. I was told that everyone should be treated as an equal and I received nothing at all. Worse than nothing. I will say though that I no longer work there and got a job specific to my education.

Do not trust managers or anyone above them
March 28, 2023

I'm an ex employee of a Dollar general. It was great in the beginning I went from Pina cashier quickly to a key holder and then suddenly to an assistant manager position which I do admit I could have used some help with more and I had no problem with that. But the manager we had suddenly left to go to another Dollar general close to her location. We got rid of new manager coming in from out of town and our assistant manager knew right from the start that there was going to be trouble little did we know that our assistant manager was fired a few days after our new manager was hired. I'm going to prove a point here. So me as the second assistant manager we were down to three employees. Our new manager came in the day before Easter and mind you I only went into the store to open it for him because he did not have a key yet and he said to me nice to meet you but I can't stay I have plans I was kind of shocked but I said okay. I went to that store at 7:00 a.m. to open it to give him the key after I found out I ended up staying there till 10:30 at night alone except for one cashier in between coming for 3 hours. First of all we are not allowed to close that store alone any Dollar general stores but after weeks followed he took advantage of my kindness and I opened and closed that store alone while he did not show up at all but he was clocking in like he did I put blood sweat and tears into that place and I'm mean literally blood sweat and tears when a register was broke it was kind of sinking into the cabinet there I tried to fix it and it fell on my hand and I broke a finger but I still stay there and work because nobody else was able to come in to help out I cried in many many days working there because I needed a break how would someone like to work from 8:00 in the morning to 11:00 at night without even a bathroom break but that new manager was well aware of it. So everything was going okay for a few months then he hired these two new young people a man and a woman in my opinion if you ask me he was trying to form his own "minions". He was a Sly sneaky person so the two people he hired ended up having an affair with each other they were both married I got called in the office one day got accused of something I did not do and was "suspended". Sure to find out that the new Young couple now that he hired we're working for him outside of work so anyway I'm supposedly suspended and I'm home and I saw the young guy that was working there for him and he kissed his $#*! so bad said oh yeah I finally quit and the girl that he hired got transferred because at that time when he had them to work in the same shift they took off together because she got pregnant mind you they were both married to other people the district manager knew of all this and he did nothing I'm the one that went to district manager to complain about our manager not coming into work not showing up on time and I'm working his shifts and staying late in so they got mad at me and punished me and I got fired. But it didn't work out for a new manager to come that he was 2 months after I was fired he was forced to resign for I don't know what reason but I have a pretty good idea. I was a very very good employee there. The whole town love me I'm sorry about ranting but I just want anybody to know if they want to work at the Dollar general don't do it they will stab you in the back any chance they get even if we do so much believe me they don't even give you a thank you

DO NOT SHOP HERE
December 16, 2022

My wife and I visited this store on December 14th around 9 pm. The self checkout at this location does not accept cash. There was a line at the register, and we planned to pay for our food with EBT, a few small items as we had $18 on a prepaid card, and a dog bed and large trash can with cash. We scanned the food items and other small items, and began to pay for them with our EBT card and prepaid gift card when the police walked up behind us and began to question us, asking if we had paid for everything in the cart. The assistant store manager (I can't remember her name, she is a larger woman possibly in her 30s, with a sloppy appearance) came out of the office and became very aggressive, accusing my wife and I of stealing and telling the police we have stolen from the store many times, and planned to leave the store without paying for the dog bed and trash can. The food purchase had begun to process and was waiting for my wife to put in her PIN number. We explained to the ASM that we had cash to pay for the other two items, and planned to move to the other register with them after we finished paying for our food. The dog bed was underneath the cart, and the trash can was leaning up against the seat, so as to keep them separate from the food items we had already purchased. At no time before calling the police did the ASM speak with us in any way, or we would have told her this without police interference. I had already spoken with the male associate and told him of our intention to come check out at his register with cash after we finished our food transaction. I explained this to the police and the ASM. She raised her voice to the associate and asked him three of four times. DID THEY ASK YOU IF THEY COULD CHECK OUT ON YOUR REGISTER. The first two times she asked he attempted to answer her, but she continued to shout over him. The police asked her to lower her voice and the third time, he confirmed that yes, he had spoken to me about it and yes, we had told him of our intention to purchase the dog bed and trash can at his register. My wife and I do not live in the town of Parsons, I have never seen that woman before, and have never stolen from that store, or any other Dollar General. The police asked a few more questions and were able to confirm our intention to pay for the dog bed and trash can, and asked us what we wanted to do. At this time I did not wish to give Dollar General my business, and asked the ASM to cancel the transaction so we could leave. She told me she could not cancel the transaction, and that I would have to leave the food there and pay for it as well. The police told her that was not an option and she proceeded to cancel the transaction. She informed us that we would no longer be welcome in the store, and that if we returned she would call the police and attempt to have us prosecuted for trespassing. The police left, and we followed behind them.
I have never in my entire life been so humiliated or had such a disgusting experience at a store. Surely it is not the policy of your company to call the police and accuse customers of stealing, when they are not even to the front of the line to access the register. Had she at any time approached us, I would have been happy to explain the situation to her. I have contacted a lawyer with an intention to sue for harassment and to find out if I can file a complaint on her for filing a false police report, and I plan to post my experience on every single online platform I can find so no one else has to suffer the horrible situation I endured at your store. I sincerely hope that we are able to resolve this issue. I am almost speechless at the unprofessional conduct of your employee, especially one who has been promoted to a position of leadership. I will not take any action pending your reply. I believe the most appropriate resolution is for her to be terminated, or in the very least demoted so that she can receive the proper training that she so desperately needs. Thank you for taking the time to help me with my issue.

Horrible store
August 19, 2022

On August 3rd 2022 around 3:45 pm i called the frontier dollar general in Marietta ohio and asked if they had the capabilities to load money on my cash app card. I was told yes. I needed it to pay rent. I had only gotten paid that morning and direct express card wont allow me to pay for things on line. With rent due by 4:30 that day or a late fee would be charged to my account and the possibility of recieving a eviction notice as my agreeement with the landlord earlier that week because i had to wait until the 3rd to pay i knew it would be on time. I asked for the rules as in if i could use my debit card or if i needed to have the cash and if their was a limit on what was sent. The man who answered the phone said the limit was $500 each time and costs $1 so i decided to do two wire transfers of $400 and $410 so i would have my entire rent and be on the safe side. I walked to the dollar general and called for my balance one more time before entering the store( i dont get service in the building). The first transfer was for $410 said went threw but never did and i was given a reciept that states it was canceled. I did not look at the reciept until i walked back to my house. I then tried to transfer the $400. It however was also aborted. And again the clerk nor i knew why. I tried one more time and had insufficient funds. The thing is my payment each month is $1207 so that just was impossible considering i had only stopped at the store and spent $61 that day and i also only got paid that day and i do not use my card in any place on line and the rent was the first bill i needed to pay. Each time i swiped my card the thing that you put your card in to pay for purchases said approved each time i ran my card. It flashed approved a couple times and acting wierd and i asked the clerk what that ment. His reaction was a shrug of his shoulders and said he didnt know. At the end of it and me looking to see what was happening and seeing that it was all messed up. The cash register was locked up and complications started happening for it. I told them that nothing happened except all my money is gone. The manager came over and told me that it might just be on hold. However its now the19th and still nothing and according to Dollar General its been returned. Wich again it has not been returned or i would know and would not be scared of becoming homeless. I called again this morning for any copies of any thing that i was charged for and proof that they returned the charges so i can dispute the charges. I was told no. I dont know why I cant have proof and i dont know why i was told lies and i dont know why im not being assisted more by the employees. I am a dissabled lady and am dealing with the murder of my daughter so dealing with that as well completely ruined my day and cost money as well as jeopardizing my home. For 2 hours i delt with being on the phone waiting for a real person to answer the phone so I could talk to them and find out what happened to my money because the staff at dollar general was dismissive about my concerns and refused to look to see if there had been a mistake on their part i had to try and figure it out myself. Wich i did and turns out Dollar general canceled the one wire transfer and then on top of that charged me for 3 transactions $144, $265 and $2. Not sure what for since i walked in with only my wallet and walked out with again only my wallet, however i do not have a reciept for that because i was not handed any reciepts for anything. In fact i had to ask 3 times for a reciept and the worker only made a xerox copy of it and it wasn't even an actual reciept it was a cancelation. Oddly enough it was not even a cancelation of either transactions that i did or attempted to do. I didnt even notice that until after the call with the bank. So as of now my rent is late and a charge is implace in the amount of $175 and in two days it will go up by $100 and again two days after that and again and so on so forth. On the 11th if not paid in full along with the late fees i will be given a eviction and have to pay court fees and of course have to move. Not sure who would rent to anyone who cant pay their rent already and is being evicted for it.
I called the store at a little after 6pm and described what the issue was/is. Whoever answered the phone didnt even know what store they were at but after i reminded them they told me they could take my number and name down and somebody would call me. About 3 hours later i Called the store back and was told it was being exsediated. I told that person they havent even talked to me to find out what the problem is so i didnt appreciate being lied to. Then we hung up and i waited and waited and waited. The store ended up closing and still no call back no money on either card and rent still not paid. I did go back to that same store the following morning and talked to a man named Noah. He informed me that the charges were returned the previous night to the bank. He only talked about the $400 charge and the $410 charge being returned but did not mention the other charges for $265 and $144 and $2 charges that i was also charged for. I asked if i would be allowed to have the receipt's for all those charges and was given 1 for each of the missing $400 and 1 for the missing $410 and that said transaction was aborted but was never given any information on the other charges. Also i called my bank and asked if anything was returned at any time and was told no it was not. Basically it would be impossible to return the money because as soon as i called the evening of the 3rd to find out the problem and was told about all the charges that i never did as well as the charges that i tried to do but dollar general only took the cash off my card and aborted the money transfer instead so i do believe that i was told another lie about the return. I have emailed my landlord with the events of what happened and was told that there is no excuses for this on my part and feel that since i had the money and would not of been late this is not at all my fault and it needs to be taken care of by dollar general and those employees soon and preferably before i recieve an eviction over a bill that i would not of had if the proper buttons were pressed while i was there. Please let me know how this is going to be handled. My SSD and SSI barely cover the rent and i cant afford to move or i would of a long time ago. I will be looking for your response in my email today or tomorrow Friday the 19th or Saturday the 20th 2022. Thank you for reading and responding in a timely fashion as this is a time sensitive matter. I tried to call and start a dispute because after i canceled the card the phone was disconnected and when i called back i kept being hung up on. This is so rediculous. I will provide my card number, birthdate, address and whatever else is needed at that time the copies of the reciepts they did give me Al though they would not provide me with all of them. Please look into this matter asap. I did recieve a call from corporate of dollar general and she told me she would look into it but that was two weeks ago and when i called back two days ago she has no idea what i am talking about. This it is going to make me homeless so please fix it. The managers name is Noah another one is named Karen, they will tell you that the transactions were aborted 2 different ones for 410 two different ones for 400 and the other charges were not me. They are willing to return all of the money but claim they already did and i need to know why the reciepts say aborted or insufficient funds and one of them said card activation has failed. At the top of the reciepts that i was given they say vanilla direct pay tf. I dont know what that means but i really need a refund and need to pay rent and the late fees. Please respond thank you. I want to file a complaint against Dollar general but that costs $5 can you believe that.

SCAM
January 4, 2022

Do not shop at any DOLLAR GENERAL. This is the 2nd time I have purchased a gift card from a dollar general store and the gift card was not activiated and/or was not good. I PAID $34.95 and I called the store manager Nick and he stated once it leaves the store they are no longer responsible for the card. What an answer to tell a customer who shops in most dollar general stores. Due to his response, I will not shop here even if it's free. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY IMPORTANT. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE CUSTOMERS THERE IS NO NEED FOR YOUR STORE TO BE OPEN. THANK YOU FOR NO THING NICK.

When does fightiing small cell cancer separate from dollar general
April 1, 2021

I have been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer stage 4 just only 3 weeks ago in that time my girlfriend and also the dollar general manager in Bennington NH is now taking on a whole new twist recently the new General manager has taken it upon herself to have an issue with the manager over there doesn't see things done her way and is enforcing g the rules as she sees fit to act on them now with only one vehicle and is the only way I can get to my appointments is her since I am blind in one eye due to the cancer spreading rapidly so I cannot drive myself and support during this ti. E has been very hard nearly impossible. This cancer treatment is not a cure its basically to give me a lil longer life to spend on the earth with my family. But it seems to me that this new dollar general district manager has other intentions where as its the company that matters not the employee or there spouse DG Bennington NH store is coming into shape and looking really good the manager does her job and performs all her duties as she is told to. Again the unfortunate fact still remains qhere do we see understanding and compassion in the company from what I have see there is none nor with the help and care of there own employees so I reach out to the general public this matter is like a plea for understanding and some justice where a new district manager comes in an makes a manager choose between whats important life or death understanding and compassion to the people that shop dollar general we ask all of you to help and send in your reviews to get a life instead of loosing one Dollar General corporate offices im sure understands the value of life and how precious life is during such a hard time I ask yiu dollar general corporate office please I want to live and see my family grow not Parrish before my eyes before my time is up please give this partner to me of 22 years together and hard working store manager the understanding to complete the requirements needed to keep her job while still able to transport me and get to receive the nessasary chemotherapy and radiation treatments she will be returning to work and really needs no time away as long as her time is done at the store that day DOLLAR GENERAL CORPORATE IFFICE AS A FATHER AND DYING MAN WITH ONLY A LIL EXTRA TIME LEFT SHOW UNDERSTANDING AND COMPASSION INYOUR HEARTS TO DO THE RIGHT THING
