Professional Scam Artists
March 17, 2022

I purchased an upgrade to a Corel product from Digital River. The product would not install despite dozens of attempts to do so. I initiated contact to try and rectify the problem and had to wait 3 weeks to get a response. My replies to those were ignored and instead I kept receiving duplicate emails asking for the same information in order to get help. This went on for over a week. Once I finally got an email with actual instructions on how to solve the install issue, they included links that did not work or were bogus. When I got fed up enough with the total run around not to mention time I was wasting uninstalling, deleting files, removing cookies (you name it), I responded via email that I wanted a refund. That is when I got a response saying the email address I was trying to contact is not maintained and will not be seen. I tried all the emails I had successfully sent to before and either received no response or got notice the email is not maintained. After some super sleuthing on my part, I got a contact directly to Digital River that went through and I requested a refund again. That is when they informed me I needed to contact Corel technical support and only they could help me. Of course, Corel technical support doesn't actually exist and so that went nowhere. I contacted Digital River again and was told anything beyond 30 days is non-refundable. Pretty elaborate scheme - they drag you along just enough to be beyond their arbitrary "refund" policy. So I filed a dispute with my credit card company. Miraculously, I then got a call from a real person who seemed nice and genuine and was going to get to the bottom of things for me once and for all. He was going to send the actual instructions on how to install and guaranteed it would work this time. And if I had any issue at all, all I had to do was respond to the email. Wrong again. Of course, it still did not work and when I sent a response as such, you guessed it, I got the "this email address isn't maintained and won't be seen" message. No phone numbers, not contact other than bogus emails. Evidently, they don't like when you go around their ridiculous nonsense to get your money back because when I still pursued the dispute, they sent an email claiming they issued a credit. They must think I am a moron and would immediately drop my dispute. I did not. I waited to see if this credit was actually going to appear. Guess what? The credit never showed on my credit card after waiting over 4 weeks. They did respond to my credit card company though providing documentation that I received a product. Didn't show my reports of it not working, didn't show my requests for refund, didn't show that their email addresses only work when it benefits them, and nothing had dates to show how long all this took. This whole thing has been going on since December 2021 and I am still fighting and will not stop until my money is returned. Do not - I REPEAT - DO NOT buy anything from them. They send bogus software and keep your money. I wish I would have seen these reviews before I ever purchased from them. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Side note - although it claims my internet must be poor, I was able to download and install the entire Microsoft Office suite, chrome and several other large files just fine as well as stream entire movies. My internet isn't the problem.

Small print
October 2, 2009

Small print. Beware of "terms" and "Privacy Policies". Unless you take the time to read the very, very small print - you'll have your credit card info, IP address, and other bits of personal info flipping in the breeze.

This report on *DIGITAL RIVER* is long, but being well informed can save you time and money and might be worth the read.
Digital River. DR is the e-commerce arm for THOUSANDS of online business, large and small. Digital River's privacy policy begins as follows:_"DIGITALRIVER.COM PRIVACY POLICY:_IMPORTANT: PLEASE REVIEW THIS DIGITALRIVER.COM PRIVACY POLICY BEFORE SUBMITTING ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO DIGITAL RIVER THROUGH THIS WEB SITE._BY SUBMITTING PERSONAL INFORMATION TO DIGITAL RIVER THROUGH THIS WEB SITE, YOU ARE CONSENTING TO THE COLLECTION, USE, TRANSFER, AND DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION AS DESCRIBED IN THIS PRIVACY POLICY. This Privacy Policy is effective as of April 4,2007._"... With Whom Do We Share Your Personal Information?
Our Partners."_"We also pass on to our Partner the privacy preferences you have expressed on our Web site. We provide your credit card information to our Partner if you have purchased a subscription that qualifies for automatic renewal. (You will be automatically re-billed for another course of purchase)."

I love this:_" There are circumstances in which we may share the personal information in our databases with *unrelated third parties* that may contact you and have access to your personal information shared."_"For example, we may disclose the personal information we collect on this Site WITHOUT notifying you when *WE*, in good faith, believe disclosure it is appropriate...".

Bottom line: When you buy a product online, and as you move into the payment facet, if *Digital River* is handling the purchase - read ALL the fine print - and if time is not critical, e-mail questions prior to hitting the PURCHASE button.
