This company is beyond real, I order 2 items that listed available, and I had a big order and mostly were gifts for Xmas and I was traveling so dates are imp. They ship all the items except for 2 And they fail to mention that these 2 items were on back order. I receive an email a week later saying sorry these items didn't ship. I complain, they said they made a mistake Ans didn't update their system, buy dont worry we will ship one of the items soon. Today they shipped it and charged me 15.75 $ shipping for one tube of paint that fosted 14$?! And I had free shipping with the initial order, so noni got screwed with it. I have been using this shop for a long time, but this was beyond anything I experienced with an open shop! Ill never be using their shop again! Be aware

We are very sorry for the unexpected backorder on the tube of paint. At the time your order was placed, our inventory indicated that we had enough stock to complete the order however we only had one tube instead of two. This happens very rarely, and we apologize for the inconvenience this caused. We were happy to ship the tube of paint to you as soon as it came back in stock.

Our policy is that we bill you only when your order ships, and that includes backorders. Backordered items are not billed until they actually ship, and there is no additional shipping charged for those backorders. As the copy of your receipt that you’ve included shows, the charge was for the tube of paint itself, plus the sales tax, and the shipping was still free. The summary shows $14.74(paint) + $1.03 (sales tax) = $15.77 and shipping =$0.00.

We hope this explanation will alleviate your concerns with the charges on your recent order, and again, we apologize for the unexpected backorder. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. We are always happy to help!

Bought a 3 64-1/2" W x 1 yd Medium-Weight Primed Cotton Canvas. When I got them it was one roll that I had to try and cut it which I didn't not want to do. I paid extra for 3 of the smaller canvas's so they would be uniform in size. When I called they said it was in the fine print somewhere that if you buy more than one it will come in one roll that you need to cut. I showed them the item and it's says nothing about that. They refused to acknowledge this and refused to make it right or make it clear on the product page so this does not happen to others. Very bad customer service and I will not be buying supplies from them anymore. 4

We don’t want you to be disappointed though, and I see our Customer Care team has already offered to send a prepaid shipping label to cover the return shipping if you would prefer to send the canvas back for a full refund rather than cut it yourself, and we will also send you an additional coupon for $10 off of your next order.
We did also want to let you know that we haven't refused to make it clear on the product page, because the information already exists as part of the main product description, and is not in fine print nor hidden anywhere. There certainly would be no advantage to us to not make descriptions and details as clear and accessible as possible, and we frequently do update, correct details or add additional information to our product pages based on customer feedback.
All of our canvas pages that have this shipping note are set up the same way. A couple of months ago, Blick seemed to start screwing up more.
They've always shipped far slower than other on-line art dealers.
But suddenly I was getting things like leaky paint tubes, or instead
Of getting the small pastels I'd ordered, I got giant pastel sticks -
Difficult to use for small detail work. It seemed like Blick was pulling a
"bait and switch." I figured maybe it was just an innocent error.
Also, customer service became most unhelpful.
What clinched my dropping Blick: Their website promised free shipping
If you filled in the promo code.
I filled it in. A note popped up stating that my item would ship free.
But after I paid, I noticed that I was CHARGED FOR SHIPPING!
I immediately called customer service. (more time waste) They did some
Work, then said they made sure the item would ship free.
But they never sent me an email verification, so I could not believe them.
I had to call YET AGAIN.
Finally, the next customer service rep sent an email stating that the shipping
Charge would be refunded.
Ordering from Blick has become frustrating and time-consuming.
I don't feel like I can trust this company anymore.

Tip for consumers:
be careful.
Now, they don't always tell you something is not in stock until long after you ordered it.

Saturday I awoke to Bank Alerts, Insufficient Funds, and Declined Payments. Without notice, Dick Blick put a hold on my account for $1,172.04. Why? …
The day before Blick charged me $596.74. Blick miscalculated by charging for a $21.44 brush that they did not actually have in stock. No problem, give me a $21 credit. Its not an issue for me! Right?! One brush, a $21 value, no biggie!
No! Amongst themselves, the next day, Blick decided to charge my account an additional $575.30 together with the $596.74 hold totaling $1,172.04., on a Saturday. An account hold for five business days plus two weekend days with absolutely no notice!
Was I able to straighten things out over the phone? No! They told me, "that's our policy." and "we don't have to ask or tell you how often we bill or for how much we bill."
I explained that I was a 25-year loyal customer, never having any disputed charge. They responded, "well, we have no control over your bank. You must be confused about billings and holds. Call your financial institution on Monday."

Tip for consumers:
I was a 25 year customer. Never again!

When the order was placed on our website, it goes out for an authorization on the credit card for the full amount of the order, including anything that may be backordered. We did get the authorization on your order for $596.74, and the bank will hold those funds for your order with us. This was an authorization only, not a charge. The time line for holding these funds varies by banks. Since we do not actually bill the credit card until the order ships, we did not take the funds when the order was placed. The order was placed on March 17th, and we shipped the order on March 18th. The credit card would have been charged at that time for the amount of the items shipped, sales tax and shipping, $575.30. These two charges offset, as when we charged the card it was taking the funds held by that authorization.

We have done nothing wrong with this transaction. If you place orders on line, other companies have probably handled the authorization and charge very similarly. The only difference may be that some companies charge completely as soon as the order is placed. We do not feel that is fair to the customer, as there may be backorders and we do not want to have your funds when we don’t have the product to ship.

Have you tried calling your bank to get this resolved? Unfortunately, there is nothing that we can do to help.

I am sorry this has been such a source of frustration for you. Hopefully my explanation has helped. I do hope you are able to resolve this with your bank today. If you can provide proof that we have caused any overdraft fees, please send us the information, we will be happy to issue credit for that amount.

I ordered about $500 worth of merchandise and even contacted them to ensure my payment would go through. Due to their incompetence, the charge to Pay Pal did not go through (although used 7 time with 7 other companies thereafter) and they demanded payment through a "collection notice". Really? Perhaps if they were not incompetent in the first place, no such demand would have been needed. Waited 10 minutes on hold to get payment to them. Had to finally write a check. What a complete waste of my time.

Ordered a few things from them for a college art course, I'm a college student so I don't have much money in the first place. I couldn't go to the physical location because it was a 45 minute drive from my apartment and I didn't have a car. A part of my order I mistakenly ordered the wrong size palette which was about 20+ dollars. I wanted to return it and get the smaller one and I was told I had to pay return shipping to send it back to them. The return shipping was 30+ dollars. The only thing they did to try and fix this was send me a voucher for some in store credit. Well I don't need that in store credit because I'm not shopping there again! Also I first ordered beginning of January and waited... and waited... it wasn't there after a full 2 weeks so I looked to see what was up and they had canceled my order for no reason. By then a few of the things I had ordered were out of stock so I couldn't order them again and this included a smaller palette! So I had to place another order and it took almost three times as long as they said to get here! Whenever I called customer service there response was what "I don't know why that happened, it should be there soon " it made me want to scream! I also payed money for faster shipping because I needed it for a class and that didn't help at all!

I have used Blick for years, probably spent $1000. Today, I attempted to add an item to my order and the representative was rude and unhelpful. I am done with Blick. Edit: 9/26/17 I would have felt a lot better if anyone from Blick bothered to ask me what happened. Instead, they just posted a canned "sorry, not sorry" response. Jerry's Artarama has better deals and treated me a lot better.

We try to fill orders as quickly as possible, which means that the window for adding additional items to an order after it’s been placed is usually very small. And when it is possible to add items to an existing order, there are guidelines in place regarding payment for the add on items that, for security reasons, are unfortunately inflexible. On 10/15/2019@ 6:13pm I placed an order for $127.12 paid using my PayPal. I received an email confirmation of my order from Blick Art Materials, as well as payment confirmation from PayPal.

10/16/2019@ 9:02am I received an email with shipping confirmation from Blick Art Materials.

10/17/2019 I received an email from Blick Art Materials Credit Department stating; "our system attempted to charge PayPal for the $127.12, PayPal declined as the authorizations had all been voided. The 2nd one is for duplicate Order #*******. You can see that it was successfully charged. Please either contact Customer Service at *******787 to arrange for the return of this unpaid, duplicate Order #******* to us, or provide a credit card to pay for the $127.12 owed on it."

10/17/2019@ 11:24am called Blick Art Materials Customer Service and spoke to them about this error, and they reiterated that it was I who made the error which caused a second order to be sent without payment. I told them I would send the duplicate order back to them when I received it. I asked for a pre-paid return shipping label, to which the representative was very hesitant to provide, but did so in the end.

10/22/2019@ 11:55am received my order.

10/23/2019@ 11:36am received duplicate order

10/24/2019 Went into the FedEx Store to drop off duplicate order.

10/29/2019@ 10:00am FedEx delivered duplicate order, signed for by their representative.

11/12/2019 Received a letter sent by Blick Art Materials Collection Department entitled "Final Collection Notice (dated 11/7/2019).

What's going on Blick Art Materials? This is totally unacceptable!

Kudos to PayPal for competency and not allowing a duplicate charge of $127.12 to my account. Imagine if I had paid using my credit card!

I placed an order for 300 pounds of clay on 8/15/2021, and am yet to receive it 9/13/2021. I paid $125 in shipping and handling. It sat in the warehouse for 10 days with each day a notification that it was going to be delivered the next day. Then, I called Blick customer service and was told I needed to call the shipping company to appointment to schedule a delivery, which I subsequently did. The appointment was for 9/8/2021, and the order did not arrive despite my husband waiting at our home for the 4 hour window. Next, I called the shipping company again on 9/9/2021, and was told by their representative that the freight was lost. Feeling that was unacceptable, I called back to Dick Blick and was told that the freight was not lost, the shipping company did not have a driver available, and that it would be delivered at the latest 9/13/2021 (today). Of course, it did not arrive. After calling customer service a third time today, they "checked" with the shipping company and were told that the delivery hadn't happened because the delivery company did not have my correct address! I am bewildered that the Blick representative considers that an appropriate response from a shipping company 28 DAYS AFTER THE ORDER WAS PLACED. I will never order from them again. I post this as a warning to future customers. I never complain about backorders or delayed shipping, but this has blown my mind.

Tip for consumers:
DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS USELESS AND WIL NOT TRY TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION IN ANY SORT OF VIABLE WAY.

Ordered a few times in the past from Blick's and had only one issue of damaged watercolor paper. Probably from the carrier. Now the last two orders have been a disaster. Wrong product sent, (Watercolor paper that is the wrong weight), and dirty, greasy fingerprints all over it. A replacement was sent and the exact same issues. Wrong weight paper and marked with fingerprints. This tells me the same idiot probably repacked the order and never took the time to 1. Made sure their hands were clean, and 2. Made sure the right weight paper was selected to ship. Not acceptable. Will be doing business with other art suppliers from now on.

So I purchased a printing press for my school. I have always received damaged merchandise from this company and received a return but this time it was a printing press the Carton was damaged and on the label stated.do not sign for this if carton is damaged. I called and was told to send email and pictures and would likely be taken care of by a return or a reduction in price. None of this happened in fact they said since I had not experimented with the press I would need to present the damage. They said I could send it back but would have to pay return shipping, Well sending it back was a large sum in which the school could not afford or my activity account. So I decided to use it and never buy anything again from this company. I have only tested it once seems ok but the fact is they have me over a barrel having to pay return shipping in order to replace this item. So beware of this and don't make the same mistake I did.

We were sorry to learn that the crate on the press you received arrived damaged. If you ever receive an item that is defective, damaged in shipping, or if we sent the wrong item, we do cover the return shipping. If the shipping damage is limited to the shipping packaging/containers only though, and the item is not damaged, that wouldn’t typically qualify for a postage paid shipping return.

We didn’t find any other reports of items arriving damaged in your recent order history, however, if you ever do have damaged items you need assistance with, please let us know. We are happy to help!

I am VERY upset and disappointed in this company! Currently, I am teaching K-8 art in a public school. I have 20 years of University teaching experience, a BFA and an MFA in Ceramics, a professional exhibition record in ceramic sculpture, and have taught ceramics to all ages from K-Graduate level in several states. I have mixed my own clay and ordered clay. I have used clay from this company for 30 + years and I have NEVER seem such a mess! I say this because when I received an order of 14 boxes of #25 at my school and opened it to find unusable soupy sticky clay and when I called Dick Blick, sent pictures and asked for usable clay, I was told that the clay looked fine to them. I was told to call back in 5 days to talk to a supervisor. I am right in the middle of clay units RIGHT NOW! The staff who was working today decided not to believe me, my expertise or my pictures. Yet the ONLY way to prove that this clay is unusable is for them to touch it themselves and try to use it with elementary kids themselves. I invited them to drive down here to see for themselves since they do not believe me. Of course that would be out of the question! So, how do I prove that this slop is unusable? How do I make them touch it thorough time and space? How do I get them to care about their customers? I will continue to research clay forums of social media about the down fall of this once great art company. PS the clay in the bin in the photo is not in boxes because the boxes were totally blown out from the soupy clay.

Don't order from them, they said on there sight shipping was free if you spent a certain amount I did and they canceled my order without informing me. Yes I checked all my emails and text and no notice about adding shipping to my charges and no notice about canceling my order.

Our standard free shipping for orders of $69 or more, which is automatically applied to all eligible orders. We also frequently offer special deals for free shipping at an even lower order total, which do require that you enter the promo code in the cart to apply the free shipping to any eligible order. These offers will include the instructions to "enter promo code CFDS in cart".
I am not able to see why the order would have been canceled but we do always send email notifications in that situation. If you could provide your order number, I would be happy to look into this further and would like to offer your a coupon towards your next purchase as well.

The order shipping terms are clearly stated on our website; non-expedited residential orders such as yours will ship within 1–2 business days of receipt of your order and will be delivered within 2–7 business days. If you would like to receive your order more quickly than that, in most cases there is the option to select an expedited shipping method during checkout.

I would like to add that the Midwest, where we are located, has been experiencing a number of historic weather events during this time period which has also impacted the fulfillment and shipping speed of orders by a day or two on several occasions this year. While these delays were unavoidable, they are also very rare.

We don’t want you to be disappointed with this order though, so have upgraded it to FedEx Home delivery which should reduce the transit time and get your order to you sooner.

On Dec. 11th, my son ordered art supplies to complete a Christmas project. We got word today (Dec. 14) that the order had shipped with delivery slated for Dec. 24th from FedEx! WTH? We paid $10 for shipping and it takes 2 weeks to get this? Won't be ordering from this company again.

Placed an order for in stock items May 8. As of 5/16 the order had not shipped. No answer or explanation from customer service why this order is taking so long. I'm very unlikely to order again from Blick as a result.

I received 2 gift cards for Xmas for DickBlick art supply. I'm an artist, so I was excited about spending them. I placed an order on Jan. 5th and everything went downhill from there. 1st this site takes it's time sending your order information. So then I wondered did the order even go through or not. Some days later they finally inform me the majority of what I ordered was on back order! Keep in mind they just had a big sale, but clearly didn't plan for the supply demand. I could have dealt with that, but then they had another big sale with the very same items being offered, but they can't fill my order. That's just plain poor business practice on their part. Information on the backordered items were like an up and down seesaw, as the dates would move all over the place. When calling for the order status and the remaining balance on the gift cards I was left on hold and on the phone for over a total of 3 hours all in! I was even told one guy in their accounting office would call me back to correct things, he never did. And some of the customer service reps did not update their records after my phone calls with them. One again not a good business practice. For heaven sakes how hard can something so simple be? Their system is very clunky not only for customers, but also for their employees. For instance one item finally landed on a actual date as to it's availability come May! I choose to cancel that part of the order, because after all what artist want's to wait 5 months to receive their much needed supplies? In turn adjusting my gift card balance took more time on the phone and an act of god to resolve it... really! So then I ordered a replacement item for the one canceled, once again everything flipped up side down. Even though I had entered my GC numbers accurately, their site kept insisting on charging the whole balance to my CC! More phone calls were needed to straighten that out. Finally a final order was placed and has yet to arrive. Come the end of this week it will have been 2 months without total resolution. And if you think I'm being critical and picky, I would like you to consider that I've placed 3 orders with Jerry's Artarama in the meantime, which were received with the week of placing said orders without without any issue. That's the way a well run system should work. DickBlick has lost my business forever.

I ordered a vice to assemble picture frames and I was hesitant to order from this website because it looks a little sketchy. Against my better judgement I went ahead and placed my order after really analyzing the whole listing for this tool. I saw that there were two things had almost identical names. One was out of stock and one was in stock. The one in stock happened to be cheaper. I was a little skeptical about this, but All of the pictures showed the whole tool, the descriptions were identical, everything matched. I was sure that I was getting the right thing. When it arrived, I was very disappointed to see that only a small part of the tool was shipped. I went back to their website to double check, and sure enough, it shows the whole tool and describes the whole tool. I called customer service and was told that even though it shows that picture and describes it that way, it's not what you get. If I wanted the whole tool, I'd have to buy the other out of stock part for $100. Don't trust the pictures or descriptions on this website.

UPDATE (4/24/17): They still haven't updated the listing to reflect the actual pictures or description of the product as they said they would.

We did find that the product page was incomplete. While you did purchase and receive the Joiner Vise, it sounds like what you really wanted was the Framing Joiner. Both the Framing Joiner and the accessory Joiner Vise are sold on the same page however the only description and images on the page was for the Framing Joiner and the V nails, and the image and description for the vise was completely absent from the page. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this caused for you. Our web team is currently working on obtaining the missing information and will be updating that page as quickly as possible.

We are proud to say that we provide more information about the products we sell on our webpages than most other retailers, including downloadable MSDS sheets, pigment info and swatches for paints, videos, specs, assembly or instructional pdfs, and any other available information we can find. We do try to ensure that all of our product pages are as complete and accurate as possible, but sometimes we fall short. Initially I had a great experience with ordering the products I needed. However I received a damaged bottle that wasn't packaged properly, open paint leaked everywhere all over the package and dried. It was a mess when I received the package. When I contacted the company they made it sound like it would be a free replacement and then I would be refunded. Well fast forward (I had a couple backordered items as well) I get an email this week that says my PayPal is denying payment, well they were attempting to charge me additional charge for the bottle that they replaced so it's more than the original hold that they had so of course PayPal‘s going to deny it. The man I dealt with was extremely rude & would not attempt to work with me or even understand that it's not the customers fault that someone in your company didn't package and ship an item correctly, the customer shouldn't have to pay for it twice. I was charged, refunded, charged (for their mistake). It should just be refunded & a new replacement sent (that is how other companies work). Therefore I told him to cancel the remainder of my order and I would ship the current package that's been sent to me back when I received it since apparently I didn't pay for it because they tried to bill me incorrectly & for more. This will be the first and last time I ever order from this company and I will be sure to inform anyone else who needs art supplies not to order from them. As you can see in the attached picture if this is how you ship paint products then the company should eat the cost of replacements, not the customer.

Ordered some specific brushes for a film production - we order most of our products, goods, trims, fabrics etc online from all over the world so we are used to shipping, ordering etc. We even provided our FEDEX number to the company. None of that seems to matter... This has been the most ridiculously slow process I have ever seen. Timeline: Ordered some brushes May 16, and probably won't see them until June 03. If all of our vendors conducted their business like the DickBlick company does theirs, we would never get to camera on time. Holy cow bad customer service!

I always really liked this company until I found they were using spyware on their web site. This means that items you look at show up as ads on other sites, and is very creepy. According to their own web site:

"This site uses ClickTale web analytics service. ClickTale may record mouse clicks, mouse movements, scrolling activity as well as any text you type in this website."

Attempted to order oversized canvases but handling fee was too much. Sales representatives said to place an order as that is the only way they can reduce the handling fee and promised that they would not process the order until they get confirmation from me that I am ok with the reduced handling fee.
Next thing I get is the shipping email. They processed the order without my consent with $150 handling fee.
To make long story short, my order was already shipped according to the email confirmation and I talked to the supervisor who said she will mail the $150 coupon the following week. I even made a note that I talked to *, the supervisor and was promised $150 coupon instead of returning my whole order as I felt little funny about the supervisors attitude.
But lo and behold, I get a "return" email the following week - even without the handling fee. First they charged me without my consent and now they refund without my consent and took out $150 handling fee!
I call again and raised an issue why my return was processed and how they didn't even refund the handling fee back. The sale representative ends up saying she was the one who got the phone call that I said I wanted to return. I asked if they have a recording of phone conversation and she says yes but the call gets cut off and she is never calling me back.
On top of that, they are having some phone problem and the line gets cut off in the middle of the call multiple times and I'm at their mercy to get the call back.
I call again and got connected with second person and she is also not calling back after getting cut off.
I'm wasting my time and energy calling them to make sure that they refund all my money while they repeat their process/cancel/process/cancel with no reasonable answer as to why they charged me in the first place and wasting my time.
This is my second time experiencing bad online order process with them.
I'm never ordering anything from this web. They are unprofessional and shady.

Made my first purchase on their website after reading recommendations from other artists. Got a set of their acrylic paint for my upcoming painting classes. Signed up for their email list and received a welcome email with 10% off which I couldn't use because according to customer service the paint set was excluded from the discount offer. Less than twelve hours later I received an email advertising free shipping for order s of $25 or more. Since my order was not shipped yet I called and asked if I could get a credit for the shipping fee or if the fee could be waived. I was told that wouldn't be possible that gen though the merchandise was not shipped yet. It didn't make any sense to me and if I could cancel my order I would. And also as a first customer I hoped for a more accommodating store. Too many other options of crafting stores for me to buy supplies from. Too bad for them because they just lost a customer that would be repurchasing their paint and other supplies since I am just etartijg to learn to paint and I am in neeed of all types of supplies and would be loyal to this company if they showed they appreciate my business. But since they act like they don't need ne customers I will spend my money somewhere else.

Do NOT try and order a gift for someone else from the webpage.
After paying for expedited shipping, my order was held because
It was shipping to a different address. Apparently this is a red flag for
Them ( because no one buys art supplies as gifts?) My shipping time
Increased by several days as they "held" it past the ship out time.
A birthday present will now be late, and they were EXTREMELY rude and condescending on the phone and offered absolutely no solution to fix the issue they caused.
