This website is actually impossible to navigate, full of fake art made by fake people to profit off of gullible children, and also benefits and supports a literal new age genocide! DISGUSTING! DO NOT USE!

I'm a young woman with an orientation difference, and I'm full of talent, in writing, music, and drawing. I've joined this site after learning internet safety, which I didn't know much about before getting my new laptop for Christmas last year. Thank god I've learned internet safety, recently. So many users have gotten themselves into trouble, for harassing, threatening, or beating teens down. Taking advantage of them. I'd say if you're an adult it's okay for you to join the site. If you are a teen, please get off the site. It's not for children under the age of 21. Those are the rules.
But on the bright-sight, I've gotten many favorites for my grim-reaper and the gray alien I've drawn. I still plan on drawing more to come, and I really love the black with the sparkles on the core membership. It makes a good-wall paper, including the snakes, and skulls.

I am deviant photoshop artist. Have be a deviant for 2 years, and over those years my profile grew and got a lot of views but not much watchers. I got like over 1.1k page view and only 8 watchers. The site is good for stock photos to use in your art to create what ever you want. You can do art commission, sell prints, and make premiums galleries. There is a dark side to Deviant to note though... some people spam porn or upload nude images of themselves. (not for kids)

Not everyone will support your art and the community got a'lot dramas. I wouldn't recommend coming here for supporters if you are looking. Don't even think about freelancing here you wont have any luck.

At least I got a great gallery.

Tip for consumers:
Don't try to look for supporters.
Its not a freelance site
Its a place to display your art.
The community is full of drama....
I heard about a hacker so be careful using that site.

Products used:
I only brought stuff from people selling images of art

DeviantArt is full of wonderful art (like the picture listed), and stories. There are alot of groups you can join and alot of chats you can talk on. You can sell art and join competitions when they are on.

Aside from this... If you fall down the rabbit hole then you will get lost in the dirty, messed up side of this website. Not to say that other websites don't have a dark side, Deviantart's dark side is way more toxic than the normal.

I could compare this platform to Imgur, another media sharing site, but tailored to artists. For some reason, it's way easier to spot the more questionable content than art with more effort put into them (this includes the art piece itself, as well as the content in the description). I could describe it as "freer" than other artists platforms, as there are LOTS of ways to communicate with everyone. About a couple years ago (I'm sure it was way longer before) I noticed they started to mimic Facebook status sharing, which I thought was a little strange. Even the polls thing is kind of an excessive feature to have. I understand it's all meant for more community involvement, which has happened, but there's also the responsibility of the website host as well as the artists to maintain and encourage composure throughout the community. There is a LOT of blaming and blame mongering (as you can see here). There will ALWAYS be people we like and dislike. Your success (whether it's your favorite count, watch count, etc.) on this website WILL NOT fall at your feet. This is a website where you must involve yourself in what the website has to offer and supporting other artists will help the site immensely, believe it or not.

Ultimately, this website is like the gateway to the art you really want to do. If you feel you already have your skills honed, I do suggest tumblr, Artstation, or Pixiv (japanese based), even Facebook. DeviantArt can help increase your fanbase if you understand its quirks.

Tip for consumers:
I am an artist on DA, with few watchers and favorites =] I use the website to analyze responses on my artwork as well as see what the community is up to.

Obviously, ignore the more questionable content/users you might see. Report the things that obviously violate DA terms.

I got 2 negative criticism on my artwork. It would be okay, if they were right, and came from people who are better than me. I would thank them, and try to improve.
However, these came from people who draw like 5 year olds and consider selfies as art. I sent them comments on their ''artwork'' too, pointing out what they did wrong and what should be improved, added. I did this in a normal manner, not like a jerk.
They got so mad and sent me hate comments even on facebook. Lol.
If you can't handle criticism, why do you criticize others in the first place?
Or at least criticize people who are below/on your level.

I like that there are plenty of groups. I even found people who do blood paintings.

The search feature could be improved.

Admins don't do their job at all.

People steal other's pictures.
They make other DA accounts with your drawings or use them on facebook as their own. You can put DA watermark on the pictures when you upload them but it's not very visible.
I would suggest to edit your pics and put your facebook link on them before uploading them to DA. Less people will steal them.

I'm user for a year, and DeviantArt is fun, but there are some things I got for you:

1: Beware of 'PornLinks', By that I mean, I met about 4 accounts who had month from creating and were created by people from Pakistan and were used to put links to porn sites in comments on other accounts.

2: ShareZone: You can go 'Jail' for unknown reason, and some people can be a bit rude.

3: Art that you prefer to not see. I mean when I've been on really good My Little Pony art, In 'More From DeviantArt" I saw Fat shaking asses. Without age restriction. I'm 16, and I don't want to see that, and that Pony art didn't had any relatives with it. There's ART, Not PORN...

4: I met Trolls. Like always.

5 To don't get misunderstood, Think twice before you comment..

The ultimate site for those who want to share their art, whatever form that is. It is really a niche but I hope this niche market will not find another site to go to and Deviantart should now look for a way to strengthen their UX and other things to keep up with the modern times.

Deviantart is a place for people to upload and share their art, back in the day, there were many talented artists here, and that's still true. HOWEVER, the site has grown in members and the very talented ones are buried under the (not to be cruel) amateur 'artists'. I say amateur because, in all honesty, some of the art on the site is the same quality of my 6 year old niece.

Most art these days is Anime style, Japanese Cartoon for those unaware of what that is, and is becoming annoying to see Naruto every time I refresh the page. There is also a large amount of Cosplaying, dressing up like said characters from the Anime. While this is fine sometimes, as some people have really elaborate costumes, but some don't.

There are large amounts of nude photographs as well, which would be fine if they were artistic, but they aren't. They're just self portraits, stuff you expect to see on Myspace whores trying to get attention.

Over the years the site has begun going down hill, and if it will ever recover, I do not know.
