When my wife presented this seemingly obscure travel...
December 14, 2010

When my wife presented this seemingly obscure travel agency to assist us in planning our honeymoon, I was a little skeptical. I wasn't able to find much online about them, neither positive nor negative and the deal they offered just seemed too good to be true. Concurrently, we had been working with several Miami based agencies, some were friend referrals, but Thomas at Dehouche's Rio De Janeiro, Brazil offices was not only able to get us a better price, he gave us a lot more bang for our buck. He arranged private tours for Jaclyn G. And me at various vineyards in Mendoza. We enjoyed private transportation in Argentina between airports, hotels and private tours along with English speaking guides. Our transportation vehicles were nicer than most that the citizens were commuting around in and we (mostly) didn't have to wait as the drivers were always prompt, reliable and accommodating to special last minute requests. The other agencies we spoke to not only wanted to charge more but transportation and tours were non-included and if they were they weren't private; a desired perks when honeymooning. We would have been responsible for managing transfers ourselves during our trip which honestly would have been laboring and time consuming.

Thomas made it easy too. We gave him a general idea of where we wanted to go, how long, and what our budget was. We ended up with amazing meals, wonderful vineyard tours, hot air balloon rides (I don't recommend in Buenos Aires), and wonderful hotel staff who was already aware of our honeymoon status, surprising us with chocolates and bottles of wine and champagne.

One of the things that almost prevented me from utilizing Thomas' services was that Dehouche required us to make payments via bank wire transfer to a Swiss bank account or by an American Express credit card payment but that required a very high service charge. In researching the reputation of Dehouche, I could only find one obscure link which I felt to be reputable enough to put my trust in over on Conde Nast (http://www.concierge. C...). I took the risk and I'm glad that I made the Swiss transfer for the balance of our honeymoon as the newly minted Mr. And Mrs. Jones just returned from a truly remarkable honeymoon.

What's Good:
- Easy planning
- Worry free while traveling
- Seamless payment albeit a little intimidating
- Great prices and services

What's Ugly:
- Only 1 of several transfers didn't show up on time and we were left waiting trying to contact someone until our driver appeared almost an hour later.
- The hot air balloon ride I arranged in Buenos Aires via Dehouche was a Mickey Mouse operation which I found myself enrolled in assisting in hauling balloon parts over barb wire post crash landing.
