Outdated and Out of Touch
June 21, 2023

I-Ready as a learning program is terrible, and I say this as a college sophomore. I remember working with this program as a student from grades 6th through 12th (so from roughly around 2014-2019) and I recall hating every minute of it. Especially I-Ready's mathematics program.

For starters, I-Ready is a product of it's time. It adheres to the outdated and fundamentally flawed Common Core State Standards and it really shows. Learning becomes a chore, and the brightly-colored, obnoxious animated characters who reek of "How do you do, fellow kids?" only worsen this effect. The methods used to teach things like multiplication and division, while it may work for some, are tedious. I-Ready's methods are incredibly cookie cutter and don't allow for a variety of methods (especially not the "old school" methods) to be utilized by students. I-Ready, like other CCSS adherent programs emphasized "methodology" over the actual answer, which isn't what math is about outside of the schooling environment. Ask any rocket scientist or biochemist or veterinarian, etc.

The animated characters used throughout the math program, as I mentioned above, who are supposed to help keep kids engaged, end up coming off as more annoying than helpful. A kid can tell that these characters and the scripts used for them were created by older, out-of-touch adults who seem to think that the only way to reach them is through talking down to them - newsflash - it's not. It's condescending. And yes, the kids can tell. 6th grade me didn't care about "Sweet T" and how "cool" and "hip" he's supposed to be. 6th grade me wanted to be taught multiplication and preferably in a way that would make problem solving take less than a minute. But nope! I-Ready couldn't even afford to grace little me with brevity. It was always "count these cubes and count how many rows of cubes and blah blah blah then add divide those cubes into rows blah blah blah..." And, since I-Ready varies in it's difficulty (which is based on user generated input), if kids aren't mathematically inclined, I-Ready WILL talk down to them as if they're too dumb to understand anything. This happened to me countless times (as I was never a math head) and it's discouraging beyond belief. It's insulting. And it makes kids who are already bad at math feel worse about themselves, and I can readily attest to the fact that I-Ready was a major contributor to my learned helplessness in mathematics.

I can't complain much about I-Ready's reading section as I breezed right through it with high scores every time. My only complaint was that it's reading materials were also out-of-touch and the methods were mind-numbingly repetitive.

As a college undergraduate entering into her second year, I can attribute many people and things to my success. My art skills, my parents, the teachers who actually cared about their jobs, etc. But I-Ready is certainly NOT a contributor to my success. If anything, it was a hindrance to it! The Successmaker program helped me more than I-Ready ever did. Heck, my old School Zone edutainment computer game has far more valuable educational content when compared to I-Ready! If there is anyone considering purchasing this program, PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Modern day torture device
May 19, 2021

If i had the chance to do i ready for the rest of my life id rather die. ITS SO USELESS, i could be doing other things like school, friends, etc. and my teacher wants me to do 45 - 60 MINUTES AND 2 TO 12 LESSONS. The animation: bad, characters: annoying and bland. The coins you get dont matter cause you can always copy and find link to the games and find the website the games are in and play them for no coins, games in the tests just slow me down and just want to get the test done plus when they force you to see and use the tools like the ruler and etc 1. No one even uses the tools anyways like maybe once and 2. I already know how to use them just add a skip. Iready is RUNING my grades, family, and life if you fail a lesson when you only get like 3 wrong out of 10 they give you like 63% and have to start all over ruining your grades, my parents are losing their minds with iready and my grades for not doing them and punishing me for it and im suffering not just class, but my whole day and i thought covid wasnt enough because i cant spend time for other things and just iready for again 12 LESSONS LIKE WHAT THE F##K. Iready is making me go insane mentally and cant handle it its killing me and ruining my life for high school i might as well fail because of iready so f##king dumb i just cant with it. I dont learn s##t iready is homework with a blank white paper that you just write in hoping you did something and get over it. Overall Iready is gonna be the history books of: modern torture devices and in a special place in my heart as one of the worst things i hate about my life. So yeah iready can go to hell and f##k itself.

Tip for consumers:

trust me i have never seen something for painfully boring, bland, and just a waste of my time.

SUCKS
May 7, 2021

First of all, I'm using the remainder of my brain cells to write this. I-Ready killed my brain. It was supposed to protect my brain but instead, it grabbed a sword, stabbed my brain, scrunched it up and let it shrivel up and die. I really hope you can fix this issue because I need my brain to do more important stuff. It's not that I don't want to do I-Ready, it's that I would literally do anything else. So if you fix my brain, I'll tell the police to stop using it to get people to talk.

Second, It lowers sense of humor and self-esteem. The jokes in I-Ready can make your poor heart stop. The jokes are so brief that you really don't even see them happening. It lowers your self-esteem by saying nothing but, NOPE, NOT QUITE and random dumb catchphrases. It doesn't help you feel better after that either.

The people in these lessons must have used I-Ready before because they ask you to do these questionable things that they do every day and they can do it themselves. For example, these idiots say "How much rope light does he need to finish the car's ceiling?'' even though the idiots say "I use fractions when remodeling cars." Even though he can't figure out how to calculate the most simple question in the world.

The diagnostic is deadly. You have to view this video at the start of every diagnostic which is three times every year. And after a while of watching that video you can predict what they will say. When you are on zoom and you pull up the zoom window while watching that video it freezes the entire screen and there is no way you can unfreeze it without exiting out of I-Ready. Oh and I know that is acting, by the way.

The lessons on I-Ready really drag on if they are these special video lessons. Just stop putting effort into making these because the people are very creepy and I can tell that their mouths are just moving randomly instead of actually saying what they should be. Also, they are very low quality videos made like old cartoons, using the same background to save money. I bet you finally used a budget over 5$ this time.

Some lessons on I-Ready are kind of the opposite of each other. In this case, my math lesson had some adding decimals and the next lesson was subtracting fractions so it really confused me. Can you just get rid of all of those annoying cutscenes. Kids aren't stupid y'know. Your logic is, If it moves and has colors kids will like it. My logic (And literally everyone else in the smart group's logic) is that the cutscenes just make my brain turn upside down and snap my brainstem.

One example of how people get less smart from I-Ready is that in Kindergarten and 2nd grade my score actually went down for all things I-Ready. Oh and those "Fun games" are child's play. I know they are supposed to be child's play but they are mind-numbingly easy and boring and have no actual way of showing that people worked on it.
