“Charged over £21,000 to build an app!”

In early 2014 I was looking for a company to make an iOS app for me. I came across Dominic Ferkin and Keith De Alwis at Creation Application who seemed to be quite a professional company and quite able to do the work required which was make an app from scratch. Dom Ferkin, who is now the director at Salpo Technologies, asked me what my budget was (£ 20,000) and surprise, the quote came as £ 20,000! (I'll never make that mistake again). Although it seemed quite a lot of money I was assured that to make a quality app it would cost that much. I didn't know any better so assumed that the high price was needed to get a high quality app produced. Plus I didn't mind paying the money if I was going to receive a high quality app in a timely manner that worked properly. Dominic Ferkin at Creation Application then said that I needed server support for the app which he tied into the contract for an extra sum. I didn't know this at the time but I now know that this wasn't necessary as the app is working perfectly fine without server support. Another way to get more money off me. But once the contract was signed and the deposit paid and work started on the app I found out that the app work itself was being done in Sri Lanka. (I later found out that the company doing the work in Sri Lanka received a fraction of that money). And halfway through the project the developers said that they couldn't work with the XML data feed being provided by the data supplier. I spoke to a couple of iOS developers who said I should be really concerned that this was the case. And the app was now nearly a year in production. I was now getting frustrated at the lack of progress being made on the app and assumed that if I didn't pay the final instalment then I might never get the app and would have to go back to square one. So after nearly a year of work I had a half built app that didn't work properly which had cost me about £ 21,000! Dominic Ferkin and Keith De Alwis at Creation Application ripped me off. They never made any attempt at trying to help me in my work with the app and since then I have made contact with them with regards to some form of compensation but still haven't received a reply. I just want everyone to be aware of what they have done and hope that no one else gets ripped of like I did. Dominic Michael Ferkin is now a director at Salpo Technologies Ltd. Keith De Alwis is now Chief Technology & Operations Officer at Telenor Health.
