First off: If you have played for any amount of time, you know that this game is terribly addictive. I have spent far too much actual money on the game, and I still do. I tell myself: just five more dollars... and before I know it, I've spent $50 trying to finish a "Shop and Style Spree." $50 won't do it. Each event in the Spree can cost around $5, depending on how long you've been playing. Closet value, levelling up, and style score are the object of the game, but the real object that every player wants is for his or her style to go on the board as one of the "Top Looks."
Is it true that Top Looks are not actual players? I don't know, but I know that it's disheartening to see so many identical styles presented the coveted status without regard to creative style.
There's no doubt whatsoever in my mind, at least, from reading facebook pages players have made dedicated only to Covet, and all blogs I can find about this game that someone is making HUGE bucks. Huge. It most definitely IS all about the money, and they never give players a break of any kind. No rewards are offered for levelling up--no rewards are offered for anything, like voting (no, tickets don't count). There shouldn't even BE stupid tickets, what a ripoff... When they saw that too many players were taking advantage of Jet Sets, they put a quick stop to that. They were having to give up those $500 worth of diamonds--the only reward ever--so they stopped making any more destinations for Jet Sets. They promise more, but when thousands of players ask when they will produce this, their answer is always the same: they are too busy making the events that make up the main part of the game. Nobody believes that. We know what it is--It's all about making more and more and more money, and keeping players' attention directed towards making the most profit for the game. The "bonus points" are not bonuses at all. They don't add to winning, they only contribute to losing. If you don't "buy" new things every time, you are actually penalized, and getting a top look is impossible.
My boyfriend knows I play a lot--he thinks the game is real neat. But, of course, he doesn't know how much money I'm spending... I think he's starting to suspect something. But I'm sure he doesn't suspect Covet--because who would be stupid enough to spend real money on virtual clothes, shoes, accessories, and jewelry? No, when he figures out how much money is missing, he is going to think I'm on Crack or Meth--or maybe that I've been gambling on the sly... because when you look at it from a sane point of view--those vices make a lot more sense...
I have not touched my tablet all day. I'm starting to get a little itchy, and I wonder what's going on in my Fashion House... but that's another thing that keeps us hooked. We actually make friends in those Fashion Houses and we can't ever quit the game because those friends would miss us. Now THAT is pure genius. But that's a story for another day...
