“Great Fabrics for my Projects”

Rita K.
7/7/23

I buy a lot of fabrics from CT for my WoW Pillowcases so that I have the perfect colors available when making them! I also make quilts and find the perfect colors or prints from CT to finish them! With the gas prices, I find CT saves me the driving and offers many quality choices that are mailed directly to me. I love their thread and use it on my sewing machine for all my sewing projects.

“Incorrect fabric color advice”

Karen M.
4/29/23

I have been very pleased with previous purchases from Connecting Threads, but I recently used the chat feature on the website to see what fabric colors would go with a specific panel that I wanted to purchase. I was given some recommendations, which I then purchased, along with 3 of the panels. There is only 1 piece of fabric out of the 5 recommended fabric colors that go with the panels. Returning the fabrics is a big inconvenience, so I will keep it but I will look elsewhere for coordinating fabrics. Very disappointed that their customer service rep was so wrong on the colors.

Verified purchase

I ordered a large order of essentials thread as I was told by a friend that it was a low lint thread. After receiving multiple sets I opened several and used three different spools. All three left so much build up of lint in my machine that I need to take it in for service.

Initially their customer service was helpful and offered to replace or refund with return. I opted for a return as the thread clearly doesn't work with my machine. I dutifully returned all the thread except for three rolls that they told me to keep as I had opened them and they were leaving the lint in my machine.

I packaged it all up and used their postage paid label to return it in a secure box. I waited and waited for a refund. Finally I received notice several weeks later that I had been refunded. But only half of my payment was returned. I sent several emails inquiring as to the reason. I did not see the response (which landed in the spam folder because they did not use "connecting threads" email as the sender but a personal email from an employee).

I called today and was told that I had not returned all the thread so they deducted the amount from my refund. So I spent 80 bucks on thread, gummed up my machine, and returned as promised. In return I received about 53 bucks, a difference of 27 dollars.

On the phone she told me I had been emailed so I checked the spam and found the email by searching for the customer service person's name (not connecting threads). She made the same claim in her email.

So either the post office delivered a damaged package with contents missing, which you would think they would realize when they receive it, or someone is lying or just inept in the returns department. Maybe a little typo by someone in the returns department would also account for this, but not for their insistence that I did not return the thread.

I suggested they check the weight of the package as they paid for the label and so I assume would get a bill for the shipping by weight.

At any rate, I am out 35 bucks, plus it will be 140 to get my machine cleaned. I will be missing my machine for several weeks while it is serviced.

All of this causes me to say I will never buy anything from Connecting Threads again and I will urge others to avoid them as well. Much better customer service is found at almost any other shop.

In case you are wondering, I have been sewing for 50 years, make 30 quilts each year, spend hundreds of dollars each month on fabric, and have no reason to try to keep thread that was a disaster for my machine.

I will never order another thing, ever, from this merchant. They have chosen the slowest shipping method possible. According to tracking info, this small, lightweight order of one item was shipped via DHL 8 days ago and is still "en route", not expected to deliver for another 6 days and is being held in a warehouse in the town right next to mine. I could actually walk there and pick it up in person. This is completely unacceptable and avoidable by choosing another shipper (Post Office, FedEx, UPS). This ridiculous timeframe was not mentioned at the time the order was placed and this item is available from MULTIPLE other sources.

I've use a lot of different fabric and I've never seen anything like this before. It's so bad on the back of the quilt top with the fabric fraying I'm not sure what to do. And it won't stop. The more I pull the more it fraying. I'm afraid to gift it and wondering if I should even finish it on the longarm?

Tip for consumers:
Hopefully they have got better products now. Bought fabric in a fat quarter big bundle around 2014.

I placed an order of almost $500 on their site. One item was a sewing machine which was shipped from the manufacturer and no problem with that. The other two items were a quilt kit and some rotary blades. They divided the order (I assume because the machine was shipped direct). So I waited... and waited for the other items. Check their site and it said those items were processing. Another week goes by and it says shipped but no notification from them so I wrote to ask for tracking info. No response. Another week goes by I write again. No response. Two more weeks, two more emails, still no response. I could NOT get them to respond to my simple questions of when and how it was shipped nor get any tracking information. They did not even acknowledge my emails. Finally after 5 weeks and no communication from them, I filed a Pay Pal claim for the charges. They haven't responded to Pay Pal either. I complained on their Facebook site and they said they were very busy and behind on their emails. 5 weeks behind? I run a small business and if a customer has a question or problem we respond the same day... and we send a shipping notice with tracking information for every order we ship. There is no excuse for that kind of negligent customer service. If you can't answer an email in 5 weeks, maybe you should just give it up.

i ordered 3 times and had nothing but issues: Short yardage, long shipping times, and low quality fabric. i specifically ordered 4 yards of their white fabric that i had started a project with and it was short 1 yard 2" how do you not know how to measure out 4 yards. I certainty was charged for 4 yards. Now I'm wondering if they short yardage on my previous order of white fabric and that's why i ran out, as i should have had plenty.
I had to reorder and the orders take a long time to get shipped. I have another package that i have not opened yet and wondering if that's short also. The white is fraying so bad, I'm hoping that it will hold up for a bit until i make other with quality fabric. I emailed the company yesterday and have not received a response. I will stick with fabric.com instead.
i am not shopping here ever again.

I have placed two orders with Connecting Threads. First order shipped on the 4th day and the jelly roll had knicks cut into the folds. I had to replace several strips.
This order I placed on Wednesday and it is now Tuesday and it has not shipped. Instead of apologizing for the delay I was given several excuses as to why my order hasn't shipped in 6 days and is still not ready to ship. They are behind!
Every other online quilt shop I order from, I receive my goods in three to five days. Connecting Threads needs to change their statement that they ship in 1-2 business days and learn how to handle customer complaints as it appears they receive many. Learn to say you are sorry and you will take care of the problem.

Fabric quality is fine but avoid the precuts or ensure you have plenty of extra!

I bought a LOT of fabric from Connecting Threads, which I PRE-washed, btw, to make the "Labyrinth Walk' quilt for my grandson. After hours and hours and hours and hours on this very involved quilt, I washed again, and all the fabric fairly SHREDDED on every single seam, which were hundreds! What a MESS! Tangled knots of threads everywhere, big HOLES where the fabric shredded BEYOND the seams, etc etc etc. I have NEVER seen such a mess (I am an experienced sewer) or been so discouraged in my life. I emailed them pictures of the shredded fabric, to which their reply was, 'they hadn't had any other complaints'. I cannot believe I am the ONLY one this happened to! BUYER BEWARE! If I could have selected ZERO stars, I would have!
