For the life of me, I have no idea how this immoral, crooked, completely dishonest and thieving company has this kind of rating, but I am hereby shouting from the rooftops that you steer clear of using CJ Dropshipping's "Private Inventory" service.
Here's a brief rundown of the facts and impending lawsuit against them for outright theft of my merchandise (not an exaggeration).
* I own and operate an ecommerce website.
* My most popular item last year was a D. I. Y. Pet grooming kit, which were all the rage when the groomers were closed due to lockdown.
* The problem was you couldn't find enough of these, and suppliers would lie to you about their stock, as well as saying it'd be shipping from a warehouse in the US, only for it to come from China, which set off a slew of refunds, PayPal disputes, and chargebacks.
* So, in an attempt to countervail this rampant issue with dishonest suppliers, I turned to CJ Dropshipping, who was recommended as a more suitable and trustworthy alternative, as they had an office in LA and, also, most importantly, they have a service called "Private Inventory."
* With this service, they proposed to source any product you want and negotiate rates with manufacturers in China, inspect it for quality before it's shipped, and handle all the Customs clearance in the US before it's eventually warehoused/stored in their NJ location. This NJ location is also where they fulfill orders once my customers place orders.
* This process took over two months for them to find a quality manufacturer, as the first one they used did a horrible job quality wise, which thankfully they noticed during QC inspection.
* This meant that they had to start the process anew, and by the time all was said and done, the goods came here months later when the groomers were all reopened and I had to sit on this inventory all fall, winter, and most of the spring.
* As the warmer weather rolled around, thankfully I was able to sell quite a few of these on Facebook Marketplace. That is until I found out the truth about this shady, unethical company.
* As if the incompetence and delays weren't bad enough, the biggest problem is that I discovered that my "private inventory" didn't turn out to be private at all, which is what was promised to me in my initial Skype chat with their agent who said that private inventory "only belongs to you" (see image 1 & 2).
* It also says on their website, "Once you have it, the stock is only available to you (see image 3).
* That means both their agent and their website confirmed that no one should have access to my "private" inventory that I prepaid and bought in bulk. There is no room for interpretation.
* Not too long ago, a customer emailed me saying that what she received was NOT what I promised in my product listing and images. I reached out to my agent at CJ to find out what was happening who said she'd look into it.
* When she got back to me, that is when I received the proverbial smoking gun where she told me verbatim, "We have been re-selling your products." (see image 4)
This is a stunning, and fortunate (for me), admission of guilt, clearly in violation of the terms outlined by both my agent and their own website, all of which you can see in the first 3 images.
It also stands to reason that if my products weren't superior to what they tried to sneakily replace them with, then they never would've dipped into my stash to begin with, meaning they stole the goods that I paid for and tried to switch them out for a lesser product, hoping I'd never find out.
Unfortunately, this is well beyond the protection window for PayPal, so I can't file a dispute with them and since I paid with PayPal, my bank won't help me either. After trying again and again to settle outside of court amicably, they stalled for a month, only to tell me: "We came up with a solution. We will let you keep selling these products."
That is the caliber of company and management we're dealing with here. Their agent outright admitted to stealing my inventory and then their solution is to "let me" continue to sell the vastly inferior products they sneakily tried to replace them with.
Clearly, they're calling my bluff, and now I have to sue them to get my money back because, even caught red-handed, they won't do the right thing.
Very clear and obvious fraud or, at the very least, a failure to produce the goods that were promised and/or a bait-and-switch.
In sum, in searching for a company that was more ethical and a more trustworthy business partner than AliExpress, I somehow found one that was way, way worse.
So word to the wise -- steer clear of both AliExpress and CJ Dropshipping, as they are two peas in a comically dishonest and unethical pod.
We were excited to discover CJ dropshipping - a dropshipping platform from China. On paper it looks great. You read through how they operate and all they promise and you think - this has real potential!
They claim they can source anything within a few days, they claim they have very quick processing and delivery times, you will be given your own personal agent to support you at any time... and so much more! Sounds awesome, right? Unfortunately this is where the positivity ends, as the CJ dropshipping described above only exists as a seed of optimism planted in your mind by CJ's clever marketing.
Now let's talk about the reality:
1. Their platform/system:
You can expect to be baffled by their platform and frustrated constantly by the bugs and errors encountered when using it.
2. Their sourcing:
When you post a sourcing request you have to provide the URL to the product on aliexperess/alibaba. They claim they can source any product witihn a few days. The reality is it took weeks to get a result each time, and many end up as 'sourcing fail'. We were baffled when we had requested them to source a number of products from the same supplier, some of which came back as 'sourcing success' and some as 'sourcing fail' - the reason for the 'sourcing fail' you ask? "Cannot find the supplier'! So one product can be sourced and the supplier found... but another cannot because the supplier can't be found... when it's the exact same supplier. Riiiight! Also, often when you can get a product sourced which has a number of variables (colour, size etc) CJ Dropshipping cannot be bothered to offer them all on their platform and will randomly choose a few colours or perhaps one size. Great, so now I can only sell this T-shirt in blue and size XS, even though the supplier can make it a range of colours and sizes. Cheers for that!
3. Their processing/shipping time:
CJ claims fast processing times of a few days or quicker. They have a number of fast shipping options. Or so it seems. Not a single one of our orders arrived to the customer on time. At best the order was 4 days late, and at worst over a month late.
CJ has a number of tricks with shipping that attempt to pull the wool over your eyes. Let's say you cough up and pay for a faster shipping option like USPS, which CJ clearly states will take 4 - 8 days. Yes, USPS will deliver it within 4 - 8 days within the US, once they have actually received the package. Often it takes CJ 1-2 weeks to process the order and then another 2 weeks to ship it to the US. So after 3 or 4 weeks, USPS will receive it and deliver it within the 4-8 day time frame.
Trick number 1: They keep it a secret when they actually ship your order (this is so you don't know how long it took them to process it and so they can blame the courier company)
Trick number 2: They will create a 'pre-shipment label' with USPS or the courier which makes you think they are getting it ready. Sometimes CJ takes so long to process the order and ship it from China that this pre-shipment label expires and they have to create a new one, and your customer will have a different tracking order from the one that was first sent to them.
Trick number 3: They sometimes keep your order for a long time so they can combine it with other orders from other sellers that are going to the same place, so they can save money on shipping for their own profit. You will not receive any discount of course!
Your agent/ CJ dropshipping customer service:
This was the worst part for us. Even though you are given an agent and they have a instant customer support chat box on the website, you quickly realise that all this is futile. Why? Because Cj are not interested in helping you or resolving issues or even providing relevant information -> they will consistently make excuses and lie to you! I would forgive them for the slow shipping and other problems if they were at least honest, but I cannot forgive someone who consistently lies to me! Avoid!
