“How Not to Run a Business”

Pros: Unless you are very unethical and enjoy kickbacks, there aren't many to speak of. No perks to be considered. For benefits, they offer a less then mediocre package. It includes medical, dental, and vision. They don't include a 401K, Comp Time, Dependent Care, Tuition Reimbursement, Profit Sharing, etc. Also, keep in mind the company moves a lot. Job security and stability is not at the forefront. Cons: This is a Mexican Corporation that has a tremendous disconnect with American culture and laws. Employees are hired on the basis they will be used as scapegoats down the line. Employees receive no appreciation or support. Many work over 150 hours a week, regardless of it being abusive and illegal. As a result, employees burn themselves out. Mexican management believes it's above the law. The CEO and executives from Mexico are notorious for lying and playing games. This is evident in their relations with employees and vendors alike. Employees cannot even get reimbursed in a timely manner, and it's not unheard of for vendors not to be paid in over 3 to 6 months. Lack of decision making in Mexico creates an extremely toxic corporate environment where people do not care and the business suffers tremendously as a result. Business processes are changed by Mexico at a whim's notice without serious dialogue or consideration. There are significant red flags on the present internal controls. Other topics include: - Company's non-compliance to US regulation(s) and US Accounting Rules. - Blatant discrimination between Mexican employees brought over from Corporate and US Employees. - Varying salaries on staff doing the same job and quality of work. One group secretly gets paid hourly while another group gets paid a low salary in order not to pay overtime. This is a labor law violation that HR/Mexico Corporate is aware of but doesn't make any changes to correct it. - Illegally have terminated employees. This is evident in the many ongoing lawsuits the organization continually faces. In fact in one recent class action lawsuit, they lost one million dollars related to their labor law violations. What makes the matter more significant is they still continue this abusive treatment to employees and continually violate labor laws as a result. Advice to Management: If you care about your business, please step down and leave the serious work to professionals. In the United States, we respect our laws and people. This is not Mexico! Get that through your heads. Learn to value your employees and not burn bridges. People have a desire and excitement to want to learn your business. They don't want to be exposed to illegal activity. So please, stop making them commit fraud in order to protect your own interests. Don't ask them to lie to government officials, and especially don't ask them to phony up accounting transactions. The organization has tremendous potential, but it lacks serious leaders and decision makers. How much longer will it take to realize you are in a lawsuit state, and you will never make a profit as long as you continue these ridiculous abusive policies? Create a transparent system, and stop using ERP as a way to avoid making payments. Employees and vendors will not stand for it. This is why turnover is high and vendor closures are part of your daily business. Also, stop discriminating the US workers with staff in Mexico. Get on the same page, and stop acting like US Employee opinions mean nothing. Your organization is very bureaucratic and a blatant mess. Everything takes compromise and understanding. Learn that lesson before it's too late.
