“Change.org doesn't tolerate racism”

Konstantina K.

Even though an open platform change.org acted IMMEDIATELY to remove parts from a petition that was created to harass a black family, in East Toronto, Canada thus making it useless. We thank all of the team at change. Org. As their message is clear: 0 tolerance.

Change.org should not be keeping all donations people mistakenly make on their site when people think their donations are going for the cause of the petition they signed.
Thousands of dollars were made on change.org donations thinking donations were going to the cause, but change.org has kept all the money and the cause gets nothing.
This is more a scam than anything else.
Change.org should keep a small percentage but not the entire donation.

They try every way they can to force money out of those who sign with the only opt out seeming to be to advertise them on your own social media. If you sign something they then without you knowing you've given them permission send you an email prompting you to sign something else (give them more money). Apparently change uk was started as a charity for altruistic reasons until somebody mentioned that they could con bug profits from people. They become user rich by conning us.

Tip for consumers:
Do not pay change.org anything look fir the small print to skip, it tries to make you think you haven't completed until you pay them, the option it gives seems to be pay them or advertise them on your website, they've been made billionaires with this tactic.

Got request to sign: Stand Up for Daniel Marquez, an 11-Year-Old Child Whose Civil Rights Were Violated. So I did research.
PROBLEM: Of course you're not going to get real story, only what gets your blood boiling. TRUTH - he's being prosecuted for making a threat against school, sending picture of gun, AFTER Uvalde school massacre. DON'T BLINDLY BELIEVE PEOPLE

It's unfortunate I have made a few contributions to this site. However after going over my statements I noticed a $26 recurring payment to which I never intentionally agreed on. I'm usually pretty keen on detail so they must hide it well. No judgement if you choose to donate through this site. Just be aware the membership verbiage. I myself will no longer be using change.org services.

A few days ago I made a $5.00 donation responding to a call to "chip in $5". In error I put the full stop in the wrong place and the donation went off giving them $500.! I immediately tried stopping the card transaction, E-mailing them re the mistake and asking them to refund me $495.00. I am a pensioner and can't afford to lose this much money! Need I say that I have not heard back from them..

Tip for consumers:
I would prefer to give them zero stars.. 1star is too good for this lot!

I did not break any community guidelines with my change org petition. It was up over a month with promoters paying to promote it. Yet after 7,000 signatures suddenly, and with no explanation the petition was removed by Change.org. This is unfair and in essence taking money from promoters and then turning around and removing my petition is stealing money. How is it allowed to receive promotion money's and then be removed?

Good thing I locked my debit card. I've been getting bank notices that transactions couldn't be processed due to my card being locked. I take a look and it's numerous attempted transactions from change.org. I don't recall giving them my card number or making any donations recently to change.org. So these guys need to be reported. I'm keeping my debit card locked so no more weird looking transactions that I didn't approve.

In 2016 someone came to my door asking for a donation to Change.org I graciously gave a One time donation of $22.00. It is now 2023 and I recently found out they have been charging me $22.00 EVERY month. I never agreed to pay monthly. I should have caught this sooner, but that does not excuse them stealing from me every month. When I tried to cancel, they did not even have me listed as "Monthly Contributor" and therefor did not even have a method for me cancel or modify. Per their web site,"If you do not see the "Manage contribution option, it means you were not signed up for a monthly contribution." (See the attached pictures) I never signed up to be a sustaining contributor, yet they did take money each and every month, gave me no option to cancel, and made it appear as if I was not contributing. Be wary of this organization.

Tip for consumers:
As an individual wanting to contribute to the world, I look for ways to make my voice heard on issues that matter to me. I think the idea of this type of organization could help fulfill that need, but lesson learned not to mistake trust in a cause to be a reason to trust that someone will release their hooks into your bank account once they have access.

After you sign a petition, you're offered the chance to pay Change.org to advertise the petition to a wider audience. I have only ever used this "chip in" feature but was billed for a monthly membership program. Disputing this charge with PayPal had no effect. The change.org website allows you to cancel the membership program, so be sure to check if you were enrolled in the program after chipping in and cancel if you didn't intend to do so.

As a petition signer, to help a particular cause, I am asked to share or contribute financially, I choose to share it, then I am asked to sign more petitions, not one or two but 10 more petitions. It's a waste of peoples time to have to read throughout 10 more different petitions to be able to decide if it's something you want to get involved with or not. Please stop this harassment. Bottom line is it completely defeats the purpose of the program in my opinion.

I am absolutely disgusted as they deleted my petition because some snowflake got offended by it, I put a lot of money, time and effort into it, my petition was getting quite popular but change.org being biased decided that they were going to side with the special snowflake(s) and completely torn it down, the thing is I never swore, I was mildly blunt and only stated some issues. Freedom of speech does not apply on there clearly. This website is a load of codswallop and will only cater for the weak minded childish part of society.

I donated money to a petition as I don't have social media, and it was a cause that I believe in. I got an email notification that confirmed a single one off donation. At the exact same time I received another email with the same subject heading so i did not notice that in fact two different confirmation emails had been sent. It was an email saying that I'd set up a monthly donation. Logging into change.org there is no record of my monthly standing order so I had to cancel via PayPal. I have tried to contact Change.org twice now for a refund and they've not responded. It is not a charity, its is a scam. I did not knowingly agree to pay monthly donations to change.org (a for profit company that doesn't appear to do anything really other than host random binary opinion polls). I have attached the two screenshots of the emails that were sent, the first confirming a one off payment and the second thanking me that I'd set up a monthly donation.

Tip for consumers:
Know that this is a for profit organisation, and be careful when making donations as they try to trick you into paying more than you intended

1. It hides its commercial nature as a certified B corporation. It's actually a for-profit business. In wiki, Change.org claims to be a non-profit in the beginning, but if you read on, it states very clearly that "Change.org is a for-profit, venture-backed company."
2. It asks for donations for a particular legal action against racial discrimination, but when you make a donation, your money actually goes to Change.org instead of funds for that legal action. In other words, you thought you were supporting a petition but you are actually the profit of change.

By the way, while petition might not be the best way to actually make Congress move, they are an effective way to lure an internet user into handing over their personal information.

Unfortunately, I decided to create a petition using "Change.org
To my big surprise, my friends receiving the petition informed me that the website was asking them to donate money! (I never received that information entering the "my petitions" section...)
I did not give them the authority to make such a thing, neither they informed me about that intention...
And that's NOT ALL...
I immediately asked them to delete my petition, but I needed to do this several times, and many days after, until I finally saw my petition (partly) erased...
Stay away, they are scammers, use another company, more reliable!

Beware of this company! I signed a petition and next thing I knew they were charging to my credit card. They then tried to show that I was signing petitions that I did NOT agree with. I tried to contact them several times for an explanation and a refund. No response and you cannot find a phone number to follow up. Your only means of following up is email and they ignore you!
Beware in signing ANY of their petitions!

Whatever money you 'donate", goes to change.org itself. Also you end up subscribing for monthly payments and its very hard to unsubscribe.
They pretend to be a no-profit, but they actually harvest money by making you think you're donating to a cause, while everything goes to them. You do not only pay for them to advertise these petitions, they also sell your data to companies which will start sending campaigns based on your political believes. It's a fraud!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Change.org censors the important petitions of those who fight against the dangerous and irresponsible pro-pitbull activists.
They literally don't give a $#*! about bully breed type of dogs maiming, harming and potentially killing innocent people; adults, handicapped people and elderly people alike.

They also scam customers an masse, specifically those whom are giving Change.org one-time donations. People are basically charged monthly without their consent.

I was tricked into monthly payment plan without my consent after paying a one-time donation. However, this was a long time ago, and it's good to know I am not alone, but I hope change pays people back their money!

Tip for consumers:
Please choose another petition website

I signed up to donate for a one time only. It is every month now, and I can't get anyone at this Change.org to help me get this resolved at all. I finally contacted my credit card they were withdrawing this from, and they are going to investigate this situation, as well stop any further withdrawals. It's too bad it had to come to this, as I donated with good intention to help a cause..

As so many others have found, having donated £10 to supposedly move a petition up their listings I noticed a further £10 taken out of my paypal account this month. Have unsubscribed and received confirmation from Change.org to that effect but will be checking monthly because I now don't trust them. Don't even want to give one star!
