I paid £24.99 for what I believed was a premium service based on a sample report on their website but what I received was sketchy and inaccurate.
The illustrative sample report was for a Volkswagen which is also what I was buying but while the sample report included pages of specification details my report did not even identify the variant. (See photo of specification page). I particularly wanted to check the specification so the absence of these details was most frustrating, particularly as the sample report was also for a VW.
The mileage report was totally incorrect. The car I was buying had been SORNed on 10 June 2022 when it was acquired by the selling dealer and advertised on AutoTrader with a mileage of ******* on 15 June 2022 (information from Total Car Check free service). The mileage report from carVertical shows 2 mileage records for July 2022 of ******* and ******* - 8000 miles less than actual a month earlier (and as seen when I inspected the car to buy). T
I raised these issues with carVertical and requested a refund but they were completely dismissive replying
" We want to note that in the example report, the carVertical service specifies what data can be displayed in the report, but not what data will be presented in the report. The report contains all available data about the car according to the given VIN code or registration number.
Please note that carVertical does not create or edit data. The report displays all data from the data sources and cannot be deleted or modified.
We understand that you may not like the historical records of the car you are inspecting, but this information is provided to the carVertical platform by the data providers."
I would particularly draw attention to the comment " The report contains all available data about the car according to the given VIN code or registration number." This is clearly not the case as Total Car Check were able to provide engine size, Euro emission status, BHP, colour, model (Golf Match Edition) model details (TSi 115 Bluemotion), insurance group, co2 output, previously seen adverts with price and mileage, SORN details, VED.
CarVertical are based in Lithuania.
I cannot recommend this service and based on my experience would suggest they are best avoided. Perhaps I was unlucky but others may wish to consider these comments before purchasing a report.
