Our company tried to use Care.com to find good employees for our cleaning company, but we were very disappointed with our membership because we weren't be able to contact with candidates. They didn't reply to us back, and we couldn't find anybody for our company. We tried to cancel our membership in one month, but a manager refused to do so because we signed up for 3 months membership, and have to do 2 more payments because they don't have option to cancel it. It is unacceptable!
Terribly run business. Literally anyone can create an account and leave caregivers reviews (true or not) and they will not delete them and if you argue your side they terminate your account with no explanation and claim you violated the terms and it is irreversible.
Hi Micyla, It is in our Terms of Use that we are not obligated to remove a review, but we do give you the option to post a rebuttal to your review. I'm sorry if you felt that your review was inaccurate, but we wish you the best of luck going forward!
Just yesterday I received an email from them stating that my profile as a nanny was deleted for suspicious reasons that care.com is not obligated to tell. I reached out to them and complained as I was a paying customer and they said " We do not have to tell you why we deleted your profile- we refunded you and it is irreversible." WHAT? Sorry? You can just delete my profile and my services as a nanny because there was suspicious activity because I was using my care.com while OVERSEAS. THEY DELETED ME BECAUSE I AM OVERSEAS? And used my account? Excuse me? Worst company ever!
After 3 month membership of not finding anyone, I was relieved my membership was up.
However, that was not the case, membership automatically renews... can anyone say money making proposition... This is horrendous, its bascially preying on elders... Not only was this disappointing but after calling main Care. Com #, transferred to 1-877 # which states to call back another day, then when finally getting to a number where voicemail picked up. Mail box was full. I find Care.com not patient or caregiver centric... they should be ashamed
Hi Marie, I apologize that you've had such a difficult experience reaching our Member Care team. The direct line to Member Care is 877-227-3115 or you can email careteam@care.com, or please feel free to send me a private message with your contact information and I will be sure to contact you about this matter!
I was tricked into signing up for this site while being desperate to find childcare. They essentially prey on peoples needs with false advertising and spurious statistics. I was told there were over 1,854 suitable carers in my area, but after I subscribed and looked there were only about 5 and none of them had checked into the site for over 3 months. If this was not on the internet and subject to usual trading controls it would be shut down. It seems that the general view is this site is rubbish, so the fact they are still up makes me conclude this is actually a scam site.
Signed up as a caregiver-NURSE-Care.com never verified my credentials. I answered several ads-NEVER received a response. Poor privacy protection. Contacted via text several times by would be scammers/hackers with no legitimate email addresses or phone numbers. BE WARY!
Never found anyone good to help with my childcare so I went to the site and cancelled my membership, or so I thought. I just realized today after almost a year they have continued to bill my cc every month and I haven't heard a peep from them. How about an email "thank you for your payment" "thanks for being a valued customer" or something? Would that be too much to ask? I guess then people would realize they were still being billed after they cancelled and they wouldn't be able to scam them out of money for doing nothing anymore. Good luck trying to find a phone number or email to get in touch with anyone over there. Shady, shady, shady!
WARNING - I just wanted to check the site out, but it will hardly let you view anything without a paying membership. How do I know I want to buy it if I can't see it? I started to post a job to get an idea of how the process works, what options an employer could specify, etc. I hit the "Save and Continue" button thinking I would finish it in the morning - but guess what? That "Save and Continue" actually posts your job! NOWHERE does it state that fact or even give you a chance to knowingly review your job post before it goes live. Then overnight I got email replying to my "job posting", which was incomplete and inaccurate, and that I did not know I had posted (I was so surprised, I even went back and double checked this!). Then you cannot reply to anyone without paying at least $40. Very misleading. I deleted my post. If care.com was really on the up and up, they would offer at least a very short trial period (even just a day or two) so you could see what you are buying. I don't have $40 to blow on something that has already "tricked" me once and may not even work for my situation.
Hi Barbara, I apologize that you hadn't realized you were posting your job and will definitely be passing on the feedback about your experience. I would like to clarify that with a basic account you can see everything that a premium member can see, with the exception of caregivers' references and phone numbers. By posting a job with a free account we hope you will be able to decide if the site will be a good fit for you before committing to an upgrade, I'm sorry if it seemed deceiving in any way.
More often than not, care.com cannot be trusted. I've been contacted multiple times via text, sometimes in the middle of the night which tells me these people aren't even close to me in location. It's ridiculous how they even found my information since care.com is portrayed as being safe and secure. This website is the opposite. Don't even bother!
Hi Abby, I'm sorry you've been contacted by several members who seem suspicious, we always encourage members to initiate contact within the site before taking the conversation through text or email. Also, within your privacy settings, there is an option to show your number on your profile. Feel free to reach out to Member Care to report any unusual activity and they will be more than happy to help you in hiding your phone number!
I signed up for Care and used it successfully. About 2 years later I went to find a new sitter as the other moved away. I attempted to log in and could not. The message said I must call. I called and was told that I was sent an email 2 years ago that let me know I had x number of days to respond to something that had come up in "my background" check and since I did not respond my membership was cancelled. I asked what it would take to rectify the situation and they responded that nothing could be done. The cancellation was for life. I asked what kind of background check had been done since I know that I did not provide enough of any kind information for a thorough, complete and proper background check. They said that they use your name and birthday. I have several issues with this, one it is not a correct way of doing a background check, two, they relied on a single email to ask for clarification about an issue that was not obtained correctly and three, they provide no way for a resolution of an ill gotten information. If this is the way they operate then I am not sure I would trust the "background checks" they perform on the care givers. I really question the integrity and decisions of this business.
Even when you sign up for ONE MONTH they will continue to charge you. What's the point of having a 1 month subscription option?! And good luck finding a phone number to call or a "member care" option. Apparently they don't screen any of their providers bc my inbox was filled with responses that were ads for a different babysitting company. Go figure!
Hi Pam, I'm sorry if you missed our auto renewal feature, our members find it helpful in continuing their search for care. Moreover, we allow different nannies and child care business to promote their services. If you ever need to reach out to us, feel free to contact Member Care at 877-227-3115 and they will be happy to help!
Parents looking for caregivers do not give enough information in their ads, pertaining to requirements/needs. As a potential caregiver/out of work professional looking to make some money while I continue my job search, I was jerked around on this site. One family in particular sent messages to me on care.com back and forth over several days, then a lengthy phone interview, then a lengthy in-person interview at their house. Their ad was misleading, stating they would pay a certain minimum and they would require a certain minimum of hours. In person, these parents asked the pay I expected, I stated their minimum, to which they replied that would only be possible if the caretaking was shared with additional children from their neighborhood friends. They then asked my required hours, which again I stated anything around their minimum and upwards would be fine. They then told me it would very rarely be that MANY hours, and told me it would stem from a significantly lower amount of hours, up to their original minimum. I was very turned off when I left these people's house due to their dishonesty. To make matters worse (and this is no fault of the site, but plays to the true character of these parents), they failed to mention, that they lived at the top of a mountain outlook, which had a steep, winding, barely-single-lane-gravel-road leading up to it for about a half mile. It had iced the night before so my car nearly slid off the road on a curve, and their entire gravel driveway was a sheet of ice, not exaggerating. As careful as I was, I still slipped while walking into their house, and slipped again (thankfully not falling down either time) walking back out to my car. No effort was made to warn me prior, or prevent injury (i. E. no salt). It may be the nature of this site that enables dishonest people to take advantage of ambitious and good-hearted people who need to make some extra money to get through these tough economic times, and I want no more part of it. I'm very disappointed in this site.
We have used Care.com on several occasions and have hired several people from the site. This last time we used it we signed up for a one month membership. Not a three months or year membership, but one month. Because I only wanted a single month of service. I ended up paying for much much more. Why even offer differing terms of service if you are going to continue to bill until customers explicitly cancel? I am surprised a class action has not been filed for this. I like the service, but that auto renewal is fraudulent. Other online services have much more ethical and user friendly renewal policies.
Hi Marc, Many of our members find the auto renewal feature helpful in their continuing search for care, I'm sorry if you missed it. We are so glad to hear that you liked the service, if you ever need help canceling your subscription in the future please feel free to reach out to Member Care!
Hackers have my info they say they got from my profile on care.com, they are texting me and it looks like I am not the only one. Their website must not be very secure. How the heck did these scammers get my phone number and know I am a nanny. Beware before using this site.
Hi Carolyn, in your privacy settings, you have the option to show your phone number on your profile. I'm sorry if you've been contacted by someone who seems suspicious, we definitely encourage you to contact Member Care to report this and we would also be happy to assist you in hiding your phone number!
Be careful of auto renew. It is a scam. You sign up for a XX amount of time membership and expect it to expire at that time but they extend it and keep charging you.
Hi W L, I'm sorry if you missed our autorenewal feature. We do disclose this feature on our upgrade page, but still I will definitely be taking your feedback about it. If you have any questions about canceling your subscription, feel free to contact Member Care!
I recently got a Babysitter off of this website and she scammed me out of money. When I reported her to them they deleted my account and did absolutely nothing about the situation. Be very aware on this website
Hi Brittney, Thank you for reporting this incident to our Member Care team, we do take these reports very seriously. I'm so sorry that your caregiver didn't work out and will be passing on this feedback about your experience.
I was registered on the site and started receiving texts saying they received my information on care.com requesting my information and resume. They also claimed to be hard of hearing and refused to speak to me on the phone. The same situation as a precious reviewer. I actually told them I knew it was a scam and that I wasnt intestersted and they keep texting me from now 10 different numbers. I alerted Care.com to this and they did nothing to protect me or my information. They are not a responsible business. Caregivers should look elsewhere unless they would like to be harassed.
Hi Angela, I'm glad previous reviews were able to help you understand the warning signs of fraud and scam and I'm very sorry that you were in this position. Thank you for alerting us to the situation, and I apologize if you feel that we didn't appreciate your report. We take cases like these very seriously and encourage our members to let us know about potential scams. Your phone number is the only piece of contact information that can appear on your profile, and you have the option of taking it down in your Privacy Settings. Please feel free to contact Member Care for assistance!
Like many others, I signed up for a one-month subscription and just realized I have been being charged for additional months. They are preying on moms who, like me, were probably in a weak moment and feeling a little desperate. Disgusting. Am disputing the charge.
Hi Krista, I'm really sorry to hear that you were unaware of our auto renewal feature. We disclose this feature on our enrollment page to make our members aware, but I am sorry that you missed it and will certainly be forwarding your feedback about this.
I have been using Care.com for about 4-5 years now. I would look to be employed as a part time babysitter during the school year (oh yes, I teach as well), and I would look for full time employment during the summer. Care.com provided me the opportunity to work for a number of WONDERFUL families. However, now that the site seems to have more publicity, I am constantly text messaged by scammers (almost daily). I always ignore and delete, but once, someone was persistent and INSISTED I give them an answer for their "employment opportunity." They didn't even give me job details and just kept text messaging me! And from what I remember 4 years ago, my email was never VISIBLE to people unless we sent messages back and forth through Care.com's "secure" site. The worst part is even though I deal with daily electronic harassment, I still come back... Until today. I went to update my profile information only to receive an alert stating that they couldn't "approve" my profile updates (I changed my age and added work from last summer). They suggested I PROOFREAD before posting and post a video. I'm sorry, I do not feel comfortable posting a video of myself on a website that is full of scammers. One look on Care.com's search for nannies and you see girls posting selfies in their mirrors. What is this site REALLY being used for? One thing I also had a hard time getting around was putting my past employer's EMAIL ADDRESS. That is NOT my information to share with a site that is obviously selling people's information. If this is why my profile is not approved, that is incredibly ridiculous. If you are an actual educator looking for part time babysitting or summer nannying, GO ELSEWHERE. You would have better luck posting on Craigslist or starting a Facebook page...
Hi Renee- I apologize to hear about the experience you had on our site. Unfortunately, internet scams are on the rise and most of this activity happens off of our site, making it impossible for us to monitor. We would really appreciate getting more information from you about this, I will be sending you a private message to follow up.
Additionally, I'd like to be clear that we do not share your email address (or the email addresses of your references) with other members. That information can only be shared in a private message and only if you are comfortable doing so.
Lastly, if you are having trouble getting your information approved please feel free to reach out to Member Care for assistance. We'd be happy to help!
I enrolled and did indeed get people who said they wanted to work for me. I hired 1 that I found and she seemed dependable and honest. What I got was some one who lied and and was just going to leave me hanging.
Don't believe everything you read.
I was looking for pet care and the person I hired even worked for a animal hospital as the kennel manager.
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
Hi Nadezda, When you sign up for a subscription on Care.com we provide different membership options. By signing up for a three month subscription, you do agree to all three months and receive a discounted rate compared to the monthly subscription. I'm sorry if you misunderstood the subscription options, and I will be passing on your feedback about the experience you've had trying to hire caregivers.
