I've never written a bad review in my life. I signed up to care.com and sittercity joined 3 month offer. It was supposed to last 3 months and thats it. I was not informed that BOTH sites will automatically sign me up for the most expensive service they have. Bad luck - me and my husband saw this offer while on the go and we ended up using his credit card, which I don't monitor. Many MONTHs later my husband asked why do we pay for care.com every month. What do you know - we were paying for the monthly subscription for MANY months. You could say this was our fault by not catching this earlier. But I say this was an ill-designed "promotion" aimed at making exactly this kind of mistake by dead tired, trying to make ends meet parents.
Of course they only refunded the last payment.

Trustworthy companies would send you a notification of your payment and not count on peoples forgetfulness. Is that where their main profit comes from? I wouldn't be surprised.

And by the way we didn't find anybody during this promotion.
This kind of stuff makes me want to cry.

My wife and I recently used care.com to find a Nanny for our two boys. We found someone who ended up being a disaster. To make a long story short we left an honest and accurate review of the individual in a polite and professional manner and in turn care.com closed our account and we are banned for good. What is the point of writing a review to have it removed and get banned? Furthermore, the lousy Nanny is still active even though she responded to our review with a long statement of one big lie. They did not bother to investigate or look into the situation they just banned us. After researching this site they seem to do this to every family that writes a negative review for the caregivers on their account. This is a site for care for children. Should they not be concerned with the best interest of the children and families needing good care for their children? The answer is no.! They want to make the most money clearly and poor caregivers are aloud to stay on the site and good parents are removed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE! If you find a bad sittter and write a review you will be banned! They con't care about your kids, they care about the money they make from sitters/nannys' looking for employment. I would not even give this a 1 star review it is far worse.

Hi Andre, We encourage families to provide honest feedback about any experience they have with a caregiver- good or bad. While we do reserve the right to close an account for any reason or no reason at all, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and appreciate your feedback.

An Awful Experience
April 16, 2015

I get multiple spam text messages a day. I get multiple emails from care.com a day despite asking to not be sent emails unless someone messages me on the site. I have talked to the support staff multiple times (a challenging experience in itself) and have never been left with a good answer. This company is horrific.

STAY AWAY
April 14, 2015

I started with Care.com, needing a housecleaner, posted the position, they wanted a fee, I declined, and somehow that request got listed at Thumbtack.com. Started getting tons of offers. These cleaners profiles looked great, pics of their work, good reviews. Hired one, they showed up near noon, not giving me time, although I asked. The quote was $70 to clean per what I needed, walls, windows, etc, seemed too low. So were here all day, mostly "hiding in laundry room," not much cleaning going on at all. Gave benefit of doubt, unfamilar with home, so asked them back, strange, they didn't ask to continue, they wouldn't say the cost, 11 to7:30. Was $70 enough? No idea so paid more. Next visit date comes, I have to contact to confirm, shouldn't they have? Then the phone call "Our tire is flat & must be special ordered"-never heard of that, unless racing car special, this was a common car. So the no show & never heard from them again. They still advertise on Thimbtack. 2nd housecleaner, came to give estimate, to see what they were in for, looked good till morning of cleaning day. Phone rings with lady crying about her domestic disturbance, yet wanted me to just reshedule? So what will happen that day? This is all too much for me. I hear complaints from the folks looking for work horror stories, I just wanted to say it's a horror from the hiring side too.

Right after I created my account I got an e-mail from someone asking me to nanny their children, and after a few e-mails back and forth they made up some scam about how they were just moving to my area and they needed me to order a bunch of items for them and send them to their new house, and then they would pay me back once I started working for them. After that I started receiving texts from random numbers that were clearly fake leads. The site just seems like an easy way for scammers to target vulnerable girls/women. I would not recommend this site.

Care.com promotes scams, illegal activity and is stealing from the public. Predatory auto renew billing buried in a lengthy disclosure. The bait and switch marketing is making them one of the most powerful. Com platforms ever. Care.com is not liable for accuracy of any info a caregiver provides not even CPR or background checks. The checks are provided from an outside 3rd party that also states they don't guarantee accuracy or completeness and is not liable in anyway. Terminating accounts without reason, warning is the new normal at Care.com. If any parent should report abuse, theft or neglect either in writing phone call or a negative review Care.com terminates the account to cover tracks. They do not care about people and especially do not care about babies or children.

Scam artists
April 6, 2015

I signed up for care.com months ago since then I have already found other job positions so I had completely forgotten about my profile. Ever so often I would receive texts saying I saw your profile need a nanny, caregiver, etc. In my mind why not do what I love what with kids and make extra money while doing it. I wasn't so committed to the website which was strange to me when people contacted me from my basic profile at the time I had no photo I just started the profile to not even finish it that was the first flag. The second flag was it seemed odd that every family I spoke with was moving from another state closer to my area at first it seemed ok, but then! I was contacted by a Glenn Smith I sent him my resume and all important details he needed in order to decide if I was suitable for the job we only spoke through email he said he was hard of hearing. He told me his son was in an accident and needed an electric wheelchair. Of course I think nothing of it, but looking back when a person gives you more details then they ask questions be alarmed. So my first task was for the man to send me money so I could get the electric wheelchair in order for it to be here upon their arrival. It came in a fedex package very quickly the address didn't match which was odd. I open it and it was a cashiers check of 3225. The 3000 was for the wheelchair and 225 for my advance as I was analyzing the check I looked to see that it was fake. I took it to my bank to ask if the check was fraudulent and I explained the situation I gave them all the information I had including the envelope I received. Care.com is full of scam artists it reminds me of craigslist and we all know how those ads end up. DO NOT RESPOND TO THESE SCAM ARTISTS AND FRANKLY DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE SITE. It's so unfortunate that the techs and other people behind the scenes do not monitor their own site care.com

My wife was trying to look for a nanny position and she almost fell for a scam where a lady who is supposedly from Canada was moving over to our city. The "lady" gave her this whole story about how her 5 year old daughter was caught in a car accident with her dad and that her dad died. As a result, her daughter was stuck in a wheel chair.

Afterwards, she told my wife to give her our details so she can send us a check to order this electric wheelchair. Long story short, I came into the picture and smelled a scam. I reverse searched the pictures she sent, and found out that the pictures are from totally complete stories on other ends of the country.

There was only one way that this "lady" found my wife's phone number, and that was through care.com. Stay away from this site. Stay away from it like the plague.

Care.com is a sophisticated scam! They rip you off with their auto renewal policy, which of course is in fine print. Also, unlike other membership services the "auto renew" option is stated as "downgrade option" which is meant to MISGUIDE. In addition, Care.com does not provide any written notices to their customers to notify that their membership is renewed prior or after the renewal. How convenient!
Before they start throwing their policy in customer's face, they should look into "evergreen clause" state by state, which requires companies to provide written notices prior to billing cycle.
I believe most of their income comes from such auto-renewed membership charges, which members did not intend to auto-renew!
Good luck with finding their contact number and when you do, they will come up with horrible excuses to not refund you. I found customer service number of complaint website.
About finding care that you need, half of the responses " matches" are from local businesses that you can find from directory anyways and "fake" profiles.
It is a sophisticated scam to exploit using modern marketing tactics!

FAKE JOBS
March 31, 2015

I've been using Care.com for years. They claim many available jobs in my area. I apply to almost all these jobs & I'm finding a pattern. A lot of the jobs look real but have no picture, say similar things, have similar pay, and they NEVER respond to me. They are 100% fake family profiles made by Care.com to look like they have more jobs to offer you. In reality there's only a handful. Very disappointed. I've had much better luck with Sittercity.com and had a $14/hr nanny job for over a year through them. Also have been receiving text messages from random out of state numbers looking for care... I have contacted Care.com about the issue weeks ago and have gotten no response. Not a reliable company looking out for its customers best interest.

I have been harassed by this man who put an ad onto care.com and of course I fell for it. I am just trying to make extra money for my family and I figured babysitting would be good for me and my son. Well, I get a message from a person who claims to be a man named Thomas, he wanted me to watch his daughter, Jessica everyday for about 6 hours. I agreed to do that and was told he would send me a check to my house to pay for the first month, again, I agreed and gave him my address. He sent a check that looked real but thankfully I was already confused because the check came from three different places and three different names listed on there. So, I told him I put the check in the account and then he decides to tell me I need to pay someone he hired to bring toys over to me, red flag#1. I told him I did not want the job and I apologized but I did tell him that I did not put the money in my account, instead I had it reversed and shredded. He then said oh no, let it go through and keep $200 and just send the rest of the money to my new babysitter red flag #2. Now, he will not leave me alone and keeps texting me and sending fake checks to my home. He is telling me he is going to report me to the FBI and everything. I am not happy, all I wanted to do was make extra money for my family.

Like a pickpocket, Care.com is designed to distract and grab. The auto renew its representatives repeatedly cite is in small font and grayscale below the enrollment button options. The fact that they refuse to refund may be legal according to their terms and conditions, but it is deceptive, underhanded, and, I think, strategic.

If the the company understood the importance of trust between consumer and business, they would refund services not needed and not used for the sake of preserving the goodwill necessary for a social contract to work. The only explanation for the boilerplate response to the same complaint over and over again is that they bank on that revenue--that is revenue brought in by unwitting consumers who are too embarrassed or too ashamed to admit they were duped. Nothing else explains the refusal to refund as well as the refusal to communicate clearly how the payment works and how it charges every month without notice.

My "subscription" went undetected for 19 months. How many overworked, exhausted mothers are too tired to notice the fine print on an overcluttered website? How many more are too ashamed to say anything once they discover the error? Care.com is a predatory business. I've already brought my concerns to the attention to Care.com and have received nothing but citations of their policies.

One wonders if there is grounds for a class action lawsuit. The agreement and terms are perfectly legal, which is why the kind and courteous Care.com representatives keep citing them. Their refusal to refund *combined with* their failure to make it the terms any clearer and easier to read on that mess of a website, however, suggests market strategy. They don't refund because they count on a certain amount of revenue from people too tired, too overworked, and too pressed for time to read the fine print. Which describes almost every working parent I know.

Scam
March 28, 2015

I signed up for one month and found out several months later they had been charging us $39 per month! They claimed to have told me in an email but it was hidden down at the bottom and trust me, if I had seen they were going to charge me every month I never would have signed up. They refused to refund more than the last month and that was only after I made a stink. Used to be a great service but now it is apparently just set up to scam people into a monthly autocharge with no recourse. I hate to think of them taking advantage of people who are desperate for help.

This book will be helpful to those providing care to older adults across a wide spectrum of needs. It is a basic caregiving guide that could ease the burden of care for many years and in many differing care situations. The authors had previously developed a concept called the `40-70 Rule' a guide to how to start the conversation about future care needs. This guide is available free online at [...]. After initial introductory chapters, the book begins with a chapter set at the beginning of the caregiving journey with the care receiver living independently in the community. There are suggestions about how to make the environment safer and guidelines about the costs of these safety measures, and a discussion about the pros and cons of remaining in one's home. At the end of the chapter there are valuable online resources.
