Avoid! Absolute Scam.
January 8, 2020

I should of done more research on this company before sending my cards to them. Adding my experience to what seems like 1,000's of complaints in hopes that is saves someone else from the headache of dealing with these people.

I sent $75 worth of gift cards (3 $25 gift cards to the same store) to CardPool on 12/6. I filled out the form on the website and I received and email stating: "Thanks for using Cardpool! You earned $52.47 on your unwanted gift cards... To complete the process, please mail your gift cards to..."

To me, this statement means they were accepted, no where in the email does it say they need to be verified (again) after they are received. I mailed the cards on 12/7.

On 12/12 I get an email from CardPool saying they cannot verify the funds and they were mailing the cards back on Monday 12/16. I quickly emailed them back to ask if they called or emailed the company (the way its says too do on the back of the cards to verify funds.) CardPool did not respond. I emailed the company I had the gift cards with and within TEN MINUTES they respond with the balance of each card. ($25 on each). I sent this info to CardPool. No response.

12/19, I get an email that looks like an auto response saying the "processing center encountered an issue". But they can't tell me what the issue is.

I filed a complaint with the BBB.

I have not received the cards back or my payment of $52.47 as of 1/8/2020.

This company is an absolute fraud. They have stolen my cards, lied about the inability to verify funds and then claimed there were 'other' reasons they couldn't accept my cards, but won't tell me why or give them back. If the stories from customers on their Facebook page, complaints at BBB and reviews here don't prove that, just look at their website. They say they have a "4 star" rating with "20,300+ reviews". This is the source these ratings, trustpilot.com, as noted at the bottom of cardpool.com. TrustPilot's ACTUAL review count is 20,300+ (so it is a current calculation on the CardPool website) but its a TWO AND A HALF STAR RATING - not FOUR!

1/10 No cards back or my payment of $52.47. Filed a report with the Attorney General of TX. Cardpool has deleted/removed all negative comments from their Facebook page. Shady, shady.

1/27 No cards back or my payment of $52.47. I had an interested buyer for $50, but they wanted the physical cards (I have photos of the cards & email confirmation that cards are still valid) - but I don't have them because Card Pool won't send them back. So I lost that sale.

2/17 On 1/26 I got an email from one of the sites I left a review on, stating: "You have 3.0K views and counting!" I forwarded this email CardPool. They didn't respond. Within a day or 2 I emailed the store I had the cards with to check the balance (I've done this several times since they were stolen by CardPool, just to see if they had used them.) They were still valid. The Customer Service people from this store are so quick to respond & friendly, I explained that my cards were stolen & asked if they could cancel/re-issue them. To my surprise, they said yes & mailed them to me the next day! Within the same week of emailing the review email to CardPool, My original cards appeared in my mailbox! The cards they claimed were mailed back in early December & were unable to verify. The envelope I sent them in with the paperwork - was unopened & marked "return to sender". How could they of verified the cards without even opening the envelope? They never even attempted to verify the cards. What made them finally send the back? Knowing that I wasn't going to just give up? The fact I was reaching 1,000's of people of about their fraudulent ways? Figured out they couldn't steal the money off my cards (they were only good in stores and this store is not located in or near Texas. Who knows. On 2/14 I sold my newly issued cards on eBay for a little bit more than what CardPool offered. Its finally over!

Do not send your cards to Cardpool, if its to late - keep on them. I reported them to BBB, wrote to the TX attorney General and left reviews on several sites (including Sitejabber & Trust Pilot). I updated my reviews as the weeks went on. I hope they have saved others from dealing with these crooks.

Good experience(read. Left good tips)
June 19, 2018

I've read multiple negative reviews regarding cardpool, so I was hesitant to use them myself. The only reason I gave it a try was because I've used the kiosk back in the day when it was owned by CoinStar, and the kiosk is still in Stop N Shop. So I tried to sell my $50 Walmart Gift card at the kiosk, but it wouldn't work. I called customer service, they said to do it online and that I'll recieve even more for the card. Went online, read a bunch of negative reviews. Hesitated, but took my chances anyway as I didn't want the card, got it free so I really didn't have much to lose.

I sent them the card info on Wed. Last week, they verified the balance in less than 24 hours, and I recieved an email saying that they confirmed my balance and were mailing a check out in 1 business day. Today is Monday of the following week, and I got my check in the mail for $45!

I'm not going to lie, I was surprised it reached that fast... and that they gave me $45 on a $50 card. Not bad. I didn't have to send in the physical card, and was able to just provideo the card information online. I can't speak on anyone else's past experiences. But as of June 18,2018 they seem to be legitimate. I think what happens alot of times is, people sell them cards. Retrieve there rebate from cardpool, and then burn them and use the giftcard anyway. So its not that they're not checking the cards they recieve, it's just greedy people who burn them. So in return they end up burning you unknowingly, but choose not to do anything about it, because it would be costing them too much money. Not saying that's right, but I believe that's what happens.

NOTE -> For all that are saying they dont have a phone number, thats not true. The kiosk at Stop N Shop has the phone number for them on it. I called them when the kiosk wouldnt take my card and the lady is the one who told me to do it online. So if you're having an issue with an order, locate a kiosk at your local Stop N Shop and there will be a number attached to the machine that you can speak to a live person. Hope this helps!

Edit- Ok, since I keep getting this reminder that I left this review and I see there are STILL people who are getting bad service from there let me give you my advice from what I've gathered since the 1 time I've used them.(it's been almost a year since I originally wrote this review). I've recommended 2 of my friends to use them, and 1 got paid while the other one didn't. What I've noticed is, with non-physical gift cards that you don't have to send in. They've paid out on both times(once for me and couple months later for a friend). My other friend sent in a physical gift card, and never received a check. So I'm guessing that whether it be untrustworthy employees or whatever the case maybe, but from my 1 friends experience and the other reviews I've read online. It seems that people who send in the actual card are the ones who haven't gotten paid, while those who just have to supply them with the numbers off the card always seem to get paid. So if I was you. If I had a physical card, I would probably try shopping around or bringing the card to the pawn shop or check cashing place (they usually buy them), and if you have the type where they just want the numbers then go ahead and do it. Like I said in my original review, they sent me $45 off a $50 card! That's what's up. And the check came in literally less than a week. My friend got $178 from a $200 card which isn't anything to laugh at either! And then my own friend got played. So that's all the advice I can offer. Hope this helps. If you haven't gotten paid, CALL THEIR A$$ES! I know I would be..

My bad Cardpool experience on 2/26/18
February 28, 2018

My bad Cardpool experience on 2/26/18:

1) Ordered 2 identical e-gift cards - value of $25 each. After ordering, I receive this auto email from Cardpool:

Thanks for your order! We'll typically email you with your electronic or mobile gift cards within 3 business days. In some cases we may ask for additional verification and your order will remain pending until we receive all the necessary documentation requested.

Then I found this in their Support section - https://www.cardpool.com/support/buying:
While it will typically only take ten minutes for you to receive your eGift card, it can take up to 1 business day if further verification is needed.

NOWHERE in the ordering process, all the way to checkout, does it say that ELECTRONIC gift cards could take up to 3 business days to arrive by email. I WOULD NOT have bought them had I known this. Cardpool doesnt even tell you in any fine print in the ordering process that it could take up to 1 business day, as they say in their Support section.

My experience with buying e-gift cards is that they are available to me, if not immediately, then very soon after purchase. The 10 minutes they say is typical is fine, but a day or more? Cmon, REALLY?! Something wrong is going on with their operation for this to be the case. At least the customer should be forewarned.

2) ALMOST 27 HOURS AFTER ORDERING, I received this email:

Thank you for your recent order with Cardpool.com! We recently received your order, but we were unable to fulfill the entire order due to an inventory error. You will not be charged for following items listed below. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Your order will be shipped to you shortly.

And then immediately afterward I received only 1 e-gift card link in a separate email. There was no chance, through proper customer service, to ask if I wanted to cancel the order, since they were not able to fulfill it properly. Obviously I wanted both of the cards, and I wanted both of them at the same time. I would have cancelled my order if I thought I was not going to receive them both.

Before even clicking on anything in the email, I contacted them to ask if I could cancel the order, not redeeming the card. Their response is understandable, but not very acceptable to a customer:
Thank you for your inquiry. According to the terms of our Purchase Guarantee Program, which are available at http://www.cardpool.com/guarantee, we are unfortunately unable to accept returns or exchanges on our electronic gift cards. Since you are already in possession of the card numbers and they still have value, we hope you can understand why we have to adhere to this policy.

With some of the email responses (or lack of them) from Cardpool to my inquiries (they have no phone number or live chat), it seems obvious to me what at least one major problem is, a problem that seems to be getting more and more common out there:

Despite the overwhelming negative reviews and delays...
February 28, 2018

I, like so many reviewers made a purchase with an expectation of receiving my egift cards within minutes to one business day. But unlike the advertised information after my purchase an email informed me it would take up to 3 business days plus one if verification is needed. My need for the cards was time sensitive but I had a little wiggle room for a week wait (6 nights) because my purchase was on a Wednesday. What bothered me the most is the transaction didn't go through as pending up until the day I received the email with ecards which was today 2/27. I was worried all week that my order just wasn't being processed and tried reaching out via email with no response. Finally today I received a call to verify my account but unfortunately missed it. I called twice with voicemails and waited to hear back. When I called later in the day I was connected and was efficiently helped, even receiving the ecards within minutes instead of having to wait an additional day, after I completed the verification step. My purchase was time sensitive because the store had a special promotion on my item that was expiring early March as well as almost needing to have the item shipped because of low inventory. I'm leaving town soon and was nervous about a situation arising where I wouldn't be able to receive the item... all because I expected to receive the gift cards nearly a week earlier. Their support is very slow and it appears that the number of orders being fulfilled is overwhelming to the number of staff available. That said, my experience worked out and I saved 11.5% on an already planned purchase (higher discount then other sites at time of purchase). I don't know how selling on this site is, the ease of physical delivery cards, or what they do when there is a problem with the gift cards, but for my specific transaction I'm overall satisfied despite how worried I was, especially after reading the reviews. My advice is to use them but with caution and make sure your method of payment protects against purchases that don't work out as promised. I would also buy 2-3 weeks in advance, although they assured me that after verification has been completed the process is much more efficient. Despite the overwhelming negative feedback if the savings through cardpool are larger then competitors give them a try... just don't expect to communicate with them in a timely manner or have your order processed as fast as the competitors.

Update 2/28: Satisfied with the order I purchased two small quantities, both ecards and from the same company. Placed order around 6:00 AM EST and received them at 1:30 PM. There company is based in California and I'm not sure if that effects the delivery. Regardless, I was correct in saying that once your account is verified the process is streamlined. Updating rating from 4 to 5.

Update 3/3. I received a response to my initial inquiry about my status today. The inquiry was placed on the 26th in the afternoon and I ended up receiving those E-cards the very next day. But because the response took 8 days I feel compelled to drop my rating from 5 to 3. I don't find that an acceptable amount of time for a company to respond. Does that mean that if I had further questions in regards to their response that I would be waiting an additional week? I can justify the verification delay both for purchasers and confirming validity of gift cards but that is an infuriating amount of time for communication purposes. I am still satisfied with my purchases and recommend them.

THIEVES! STOLE MY GIFTCARD, & NEVER PAID ME...
May 24, 2016

Not sure what is going on over at this company but one thing I can assure you of, is that is full of dishonest people and outright illegal business practices...
So the story goes, I used their "services" to sell my Nordstrom giftcard which originally had a balance of 107.97. I received this card from a return that was a birthday present. The card literally went from Nordstroms to my wallet and hours later I typed the numbers into Cardpool's website. I scratched off the pin myself 30 seconds before it was typed into the website. Cardpool offered me a $91.55 giftcard to Amazon as trade for my Nordstrom card and so I accepted. Within an hour I received a email confirming my transaction which included a transaction number and stated that my Amazon card would be sent via electrically the following day. Instead, i received an email that stated,
"We recently received your gift card code transaction but our processing center encountered an issue while processing your cards.

Our risk assessment team has determined that we aren't able to accept the transaction at this time. We have cancelled the transaction and are returning ownership of the gift cards to you. Unfortunately, we're not able to disclose any further specifics regarding this process."

That's strange I thought to myself and retrieved the physical Nordstrom card from my trash where it went right after i received Cardpool's confirmation. As you all may have already guessed, $0.00 balance. I read some of the previous posts on this forum and I truly know how you all feel, but at least Cardpool was generous enough to leave some of you with a dollar or two or even. 32¢, THEY STRAIGHT LEFT ME WITH NOTHING! Not sure where the members of Cardpool come from, but where I come from that is classified by the authorities as fraud! I am not so much pissed about the fact that this company, which brags about it's honest policies, STOLE my money. I am pissed that you made my wife cry because they stole her birthday gift to me. THE WOMAN MAKES MINIMUM WAGE WAITING ON TABLES AND EARNED EVERY F'IN CENT OF THAT $107.97. THEN YOU WON'T EVEN TAKE THE TIME TO ANSWER MY EMAILS OR ANSWER YOUR PHONES. INSTEAD YOU HIDE JUST LIKE A THIEF WOULD AND HAVE NO RESPONSE OTHER THAN, "Unfortunately, we're not able to disclose any further specifics regarding this process." Well lucky for me and other hard working citizens like my wife and I, there are local state and government bodies who govern every aspect of your business practices. And to Cardpool, SINCE YOU WANT TO STIR UP TROUBLE IN MY HOUSEHOLD, I WILL STIR UP TROUBLE IN YOURS. THIS WILL NOT END UNTIL YOU APOLOGIZE TO MY WIFE YOU SCANDELOUS, COLD HEARTED DECEITFUL PIECES OF SH...

Eating your gift card is an easier go
March 30, 2016

The business process at face is quite simple, as it should be. Verify balance of gift card via website, ship the gift card to CardPool, then wait for your monies.

And it would be this simple, if well, a couple things; CardPool hires idiots. Secondly, same or similar idiots built the processes and guiding rational for the core-business - eh hem, exchanging gift cards for cash.

Check out this play by play. Also, I saved the email chain because it was such an epic fail!

I followed the above listed steps - boom, easy.
(verify balance of $42, ship the card, wait)
CP is MIA for 3 weeks; I email them.
They respond with a "Hey, sorry, oops".
Two days later, they respond with a "Hey, we can't accept this card because the $ value exceeds the $50 limit." And "we'll ship the card back to you."
I email them with their own Verification Email with the $42 balance stated, and ask them to see into the balance again - because duh.
They refuse my request and shut me down with a "we don't divulge Risk practices".
GTFO (really)
So we email back and forth, back and forth. Until finally someone with more brains gets on the sitch, and guiess what they did? Yes they called-in on the card which verified the $42 balance (<$50). Hooray right? No. They sent the card back to me (Oops).
Two weeks pass, the card comes back to me.
Being glutton for punishment, or just feeling that they now "got it" and I really did not want this $42 Dunkin Donuts card, I put that shiet back in the mail... and I waited.
The troglodytes at CardPool then hit me up, via email, stating they received the card and would issue me a fatty check of... wait for it...$27. Yes, indeed somehow the card balance vanished into the stomach of the univers in the interim, from $42 to $27.
Mother of god.
So, we email. And email some more. These half-wits must be working their first customer service job or perhaps... well whatever I'm tired. It just went something like this - "Hey I haven't used this card at all, and Dunkin Donuts transaction system doesn't reflect any charges either, umm the balance is still $42.00". Then they, they $#*!ing, they $#*!ing I swear, "so, do you want the card back or the $27.00?"

I took the card back. Soon after, on my way to work one morning I stopped by the Dunkin Donuts, and gave it to the lady standing in-line waiting to purchase - not a word spoken between us.

Card Pool, $#*! you.
