I bought an 'Ultimate Shield' cover from Carcovers.com for my F150 which I bought with the intention of using it very sparingly on days when hail was forecast and when my truck was to be parked outdoors at work. The cover arrived, but I didn't actually take it out of the box until about 25-28 days later. I washed and dried my truck and decided to test the fit of the cover and get an idea of how long it would take to put it on.
I laid the car cover on top of my trucks hard bed cover so I could spread it out and apply it. Problem was, I couldn't make heads or tails out of it, it was just a jumbled mess with no way to even figure out what was the front and what was the back. After several minutes of trying to find an end to work with I decided that this giant mess would take a four-man Olympic team to put on such a large vehicle and because of that I would never use it. So, I laid it on my driveway, which is a painted surface that is about as clean of a driveway as you will see, then folded the cover back up and even managed to squeeze it back into its original box. I started a return with the company which was approved. They sent me a shipping label and told me the only charge to me would be $14.78 for the reduced-price shipping which would be deducted from my refund once they got the cover back. Well, they got their cover back, and soon after my refund shows up in my bank account, but it's way short of my purchase price. I email them about the discrepancy and they replied that they charged me for the original shipping cost as well as a 15% restocking fee as they claimed that the cover came back "dirty".
There is nothing in their return policy, or in what they told me during the return process, about having to suddenly pay for the original shipping (which had been free), and the excuse that they charged me a 15% restocking fee for the cover being dirty is BS! That cover sat on my truck, not even completely unraveled for a matter of minutes, then was laid out on my clean driveway to be folded back up. So apparently, if you don't own a polished driveway surface like Jay Leno, and a little yard debris, that can be shook off, gets on the cover as you fold it up, then it's considered "dirty" and you're suddenly on the hook for shipping and restocking fees. I'll attached a picture of the spot in front of my garage where I folded this thing up and you can be the judge on whether I returned this cover, that spent all of maybe 20 minutes outside of its box before I folded it up and repackaged it, was sent back dirty. Word of the day: THIEVES!
If you buy it you better intend to keep it unless you like paying a hefty ransom to return it.
Car cover.
I was looking for a nice set of all weather car mats for my husband's new Jaguar and I found a review online that praised the quilted Platinum Shield Floor Mats from CarCovers.com. I had seen quilted floor mats from other providers but none were specifically named in online comparison, so I stupidly assumed that the Platinum Shield Floor Mats from CarCovers.com must somehow be better. I mean they are more expensive than the competition ($259 vs. $149), and higher upfront cost, usually means better product. I ordered the Platinum Shield Floor Mats from CarCovers.com on December 16th thinking I would have them in time for Christmas, since the website was advertising shipping within 2 days from time of order. After I ordered the product, I received a confirmation email which indicated three things that shocked me because they were not stated on the CarCovers.com website: (1) my order was considered a "custom order"; (2) since it was a custom order it would take up to 20 days to ship; and (3) since it was a custom order I could only cancel the order within 24 hours – otherwise no returns. I checked the website again and did not see any of these items mentioned. This had me upset and I thought about cancelling, because I would not have it before Christmas and I would not be able to return it if my husband didn't like it. But I took a chance and didn't cancel. My mistake! When the product arrived in early January it was in a beat up box that came directly from China. No install instructions. No indication whatsoever that the product was coming from CarCovers.com. That made me mad. I spent more than $250 and it doesn't even come with instructions or care tips. So that's when I really started looking around and found that you can get what appears to be the EXACT SAME product from Customein.com for $149...$110 less than what I spent. Then I was really mad. I immediately felt like a sucker. CarCovers.com just made an easy $110 off me for selling me someone else's product. I'm not an idiot and I know that companies do this kind of thing, but most companies are smart enough to ship it in their own packaging so it looks like they at least tried. I have lost complete confidence in this company and will never buy from them again, which is unfortunate because I am a young car collector who has ordered car covers from them in the past and tended to like those products. CarCovers.com, sometimes it's best to stick to what you know because when you expand into other areas just to make a buck, you can really screw up an otherwise good customer relationship. If I could do it again I would have ordered from Custoarmor.com which has a nicer quilted floor mat for about the same cost.
Don't shop there for anything other than car covers
