Cabela's has lost my business indefinitely, multiple fraudulent and questionable business practices. This is a warning to anyone unaware of their shady conduct. Don't let the maple leaf fool you, Cabela's is not a Canadian company nor does it have anything to do with Canadian interest in mind. They are not a member of the Retail Council of Canada, do not honour the price scanner accuracy code unlike 45,000 other Canadian business's and only exist in this country to capitalize on their bottom line.
Ordered a number of items online and in-store over the past few weeks. Online order took an entire week to reach shipping status. Cabela's broke up my order into multiple smaller shipments which resulted in a number of unrecognized transactions on my card. Had to call their customer service and wait on hold for over half an hour to have this nasally droned customer service rep explain the reason for these non-approved transactions. Apparently they drop ship between locations and retroactively ship out items between suppliers. Something they aren't remotely transparent about which isn't just a major hassle of having your order sent to you over multiple packages and days, constantly being rescheduled but a risk of having items lost in transit as a result. So of course, some of my items weren't packaged properly damaged on arrival. Their return policy requires you call them, again on hold over half and hour to get a return authorization all while expecting you to pay "their" supposed shipping charges from your total refund based on "their" provided shipping label.
Some items I wanted couldn't be ordered online (showing local stock only) so while being forced to wait almost two weeks for my online order to arrive I decided to drive across town to visit my local in store and the experience was just as bad.
Entering the store I was extremely frustrated finding out all items showing in-stock online were completely sold-out. As others have pointed out this is merely a rouse to get people in the store and exactly why we need consumer advocacy and consumer affair agencies to run companies like this out of Canada.
Still, it gets better. While I was there decided to pick up a Frankford Arsenal reloading tray, price on the floor said $11.99. Upon purchasing said item the receipt showed I was charged $4.99. After asking the staff about the lower price one of the sales guys told me they hadn't bothered to change the price tags as they were on the end of a sale so decided to pick up a few more trays at the supposed "sale price". So imagine my surprise after checking out with some extra trays they rang up at $14.99 a piece. After some major back and forth, further waiting in line and a trip to customer service realized that originally instead of being charged $4.99 for the first tray I was actually charged $14.99 and the 1 was missing from the receipt. Complete false price representation. After all the hassle and back and forth on their error they tell me they wouldn't honour the advertised price, scanner code conduct and I returned the items and left the store never to return.
Have been in touch with the RCC and Consumer Affairs Canada. Save yourself the anguish and torture dealing with this faux company. Buyer beware, you've been warned.
First of all, this was my first order on the Cabelas website. I ordered a hunting bag (as a Christmas gift) on November 21,2020 and waited patiently for it to arrive. After the latest date of arrival (December 8th) I called (on December 9th) and they told me the package was sent to the other side of Canada and arrived on November 28th (quite speedy to get it where it's not supposed to be) and they're not quite sure why. They said the bag was returned to the Cabelas Wearhouse on Dec 8th. Customer service said there's nothing they can do but send the case to upper management and asked me to call back in 3-4 days if I didn't hear anything. So as you can guess, I heard nothing so I called back on day 4. The customer service agent told me that they still hadn't seen the case yet and id have to wait longer. Although I was frustrated I waited. On December 18th I got an email from upper management. Saying "There is a possibility that was damaged in shipping but at this time the item is still unable to be shipped out. We can however, refund your original payment type or send you out an alternative item in place of the pack. Please advise how you would like to proceed.". I then replied and explained what happened and who I've talked to over the last few weeks as it seemed that they just claimed it was damaged and not sent to the wrong side of Canada. I then asked if they could send out another one as soon as they can and noted how I am disappointed with the transaction and how everything has proceeded. That brings me to today, Jan 9th, 2021 (it's been a year lol (not actually)). I had yet to hear anything so I called. Waited on hold for 30 minutes just to hear that they processed a refund on December 31 and I will receive it within 1-2 weeks (I checked while on the phone, the refund wasn't there yet). I never did get an email back about sending out a new product to me, just ignored and sent it. In total, I spent 2 hours on hold waiting to talk to people and my time has been wasted, and my brother didn't get his Christmas gift. At least I'm getting my money back, but if I knew this would be the process, I would have gone elsewhere.
The customer service agents were all really friendly and I have no complaints there, and they sent me a $20 sorry gift card which is great. This is more of a problem with their system as a whole, and communication from upper management, quite tragic really.
Hopefully this helps someone.
Buy in-store or elsewhere
I didn't get my product.
My husband had called ahead to time to ensure that Cabelas in Regina had a specific rifle in stock and was told they did. This is a gun that I wanted to purchase for myself, but wanted to check out the lever because i have tried a few before and did not like the feel of them... the gun in question was the Browning BLR leaver action pistal grip 30-06( $1229. 99 plus tax). When I got to Cabelas after a 2 ½ hr drive, they did have the gun there, but would not allow me to check it out. They said they could not remove any of the locks it has on it until i bought it. This is the stupidest thing i have ever heard especially since it says right on your website... and i am quoting a question and answer that is right on the web page, that...
Question... Can you return a gun to Cabelas? And your (Cabalas) response is When You receive the firearm at the Cabelas store, please inspect the firearm before accepting the transfer. Once you complete the applicable government transfer process and accept the firearm possession, the firearm cannot be returned to Cabelas. Cabelas does NOT accept returns of any firearms.
I was not even allowed to see if the mechanism worked, as the lever was secured down and it had a trigger lock as well. So i guess what Cabelas is actually saying that... yes... spend 1500 (after taxes) on a gun, we will gladly take your money, but you cant see if the mechanisms are working, and No we will not refund you your money if you check it out after its sold and there is a problem. The sales representative told me those locks could NOT be removed until it was purchased. That is a true crock.
I went directly from your stupid store in Regina, to TNT gun works in Regina and the men there were awesome, they let me check the gun out totally. I purchased the exact same gun, a Bushnell elite 3500 3x9 scope and the scope mounts.
You as a company really need to improve your customer relations as far as selling firearms. It is absolutely ridiculous to expect a person to spend that much money on something they dont even know works smoothly and then wont take a return on it, if it doesnt. Makes absolutely NO sense to me AT ALL. I will DEFINATELY tell every other hunter i know NOT to go to Cabelas if they are looking to purchase a gun, I will be telling them to go the TNT Gun Works. They will match any price AND they let you check the product out totally and answer ANY questions you may have on the said product. Cabelas definitely getting a BAD review from this VERY upset customer.
